cnw1995'noise' putty (you squeeze it, it lets out air, every 10 seconds, he says OK who passed gas)
Oh Lord do I remember that - man was the wife happy when he tired of it - and even happier when she was able to spirit it away into the trash!
BTW - spent an hour getting my son's car de-iced. Had a 1 inch thick coat on the windshield and rear window. His car is an '08 GM Saturn Aura with remote start - so I did not have to poor water on it to unstick the drivers door. Luckily he left the defroster on High since I could not open the doors initially. Could not get the windshield wipers free, but after running a while it will free up. Did learn the remote start shuts itself down after a few minutes.
Regards, Roy
Roy, Isn't that true? He used his own money: $1 for the snake; $1 for the dino; $1 for the 'noise' putty (you squeeze it, it lets out air, every 10 seconds, he says OK who passed gas) $3 for the silly string. LOL

RockIsland52 Roy........as far South in the U.S. as Texas is, why does it get so cold down there. And why aren't you sending more of those single digits Chief's way?
Jack - I am working on that as best I can but making little progress!
Well it is 18 here and might hit 22. Cloudy and guess what? Snohizo tomorrow morning!
Schools closed again today. Still a lot of ice on the streets but the issue is we never know when the power is going to be cut. Can't send them to school and then no heat/lights for 30 min. Will not get above freezing here until Saturday.
Had two outdoor standpipes freeze up yesterday/last night, got them thawed before the ice expanded enough to bust the pipe, so now I check several times a day to make sure they are OK. I use light bulbs under large plastic buckets to keep the standpipes warm, but one bulb went out. Good thing I checked.
The weather is severely affecting the various outdoor/tent events planned by NFL and local leaders. Guess none of them looked at past Feb weather here to see Feb is when we get most of our snow and ice storms.
Doug M - I sure miss the days when a handful of $1 bills would entertain my young 'un.
Have a great day all!
Mornin'/Afternoon All.
A bit of a chill out here this morning. Actually had an iced over puddle in the backyard. Hope the wind backs off some, I-8 was closed for awhile after a truck was blown over as well as some cars being crunched by falling trees in town. Oh well, keeps the body shops and landscapers busy. Still beats the snow and ice.
Anybody got the "Farmer's Almanac"? I'll believe that long before that hairy rat in Pa.
Doug, What a kid !
Later all, time to refill the mug. My coffee sure beats that stuff I had at the shop while my truck was being serviced.

Aloha all. Sunny and really cold. Cleared the driveway again. Couldn't get to the mailbox. As Jack's dad said, it'll all melt eventually. Drove the bride to Super Walmart and stayed out her way whilst she shopped. Took our youngest with his wallet over to toys - he bought a rubber snake, plastic dinosaur, a can of silly string, and 'noise' putty. What a boy! Maybe run trains later.
Good morning all, It was six degrees when I left the house at 0730, I believe it is nine now. The sun is shining very brightly which may deceive some into thinking it is warm, but once they get outside and the wind hits them they will know better. The kids are back to school today as well so the wife will have peace again while at home.
I had oatmeal for breakfast and I have the usual workday planned.
RI Jack - I'm sure Chief appreciates Yankee ingenuity such as indoor plumbing when the weather is cold. I'm glad your snow blower was working properly otherwise you might still be out there.
Good day,
Joe
Good Morning
bright sun but 6 degrees. no wind so that helps. Snowplowman went through during the night so had to clean that up this morning, back is sore now. No special plans for the day, stay safe...S.J.

Good morning all,
IIABSDISEI with temps in the teens. Made it into work with no major difficulty. Interstate was clear, but street connecting it to downtown could have used some work. Most people are back at work today. I had bran muffins on the dining car for breakfast. TBIL any time and I can drive. Prayers going out to all who need them. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Mornin' boys. Cloudy and 28 here in the Mid-Atlantic region. Almost reached 50 yesterday, then someone opened the barn door. Oh well, the groundhog said this will be over soon....
dbaker - That took a lot to start all over, but man does it look nice. Please take lots of progress shots for SPF.
Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It is a cold 10 degrees. Going up to 25 today with no new snow. We got about an inch last night.
Today is a busy day. I have an errand to run and the usual chores to do. Then, I can relax. Maybe do some reading this afternoon, then a nap. I'd love to take a nap outside under the shade tree. Maybe in July.
Dining car is here with the usual breakfast.
Y'all have a great Thursday.
Chuck
Hi GUYZ,
Well NO DELAY. I guess I gotta work today. It's 22 and cold but roads are fine. 83 more days o school.
Stay frosty boyz,

Good Morning from NJ,
All quiet on the weather front. We had 9,000 customers out of power yesterday. All is dead quiet as I prep for the Morning safety huddle. We had a number of Motor Vehicle Accidents yesterday. Nothing major or injuries. We had a few slip trips and falls.
Doug, You are right. I would rather have snow and ice than the flooding in Australia.
RI Jack, My son handles most of the snow removal. My daughter lives across the street and she and my son in law help.
Prayers and thoughts for all in need.
John
I'm out of steam, the result of shovelling and snowblowing too much. But it had to be done. The weather was all over the place today, starting with powdery snow, heavy snow, then sleet, rain, then back to powdery snow. Temps at 20 now and falling, may see single digits tomorrow. So anything white not moved will be immovable, like concrete. The roads were empty today, folks and kids stayed home and hunkered down. Next storm is Saturday, could get 6-9" more.
BTW.......no further issue with the snowblower, it's working beautifully.
Did you ever wonder why it is necessary to list all 600 of the school closures one by one on the news? Wouldn't it be easier to just list the half dozen that are open? No one is going to show up at those 6 anyway.
8n........you are on the Western snow defense front, but you are falling down on the job. Too much is getting past you.
Roy........as far South in the U.S. as Texas is, why does it get so cold down there. And why aren't you sending more of those single digits Chief's way?
Joe.....read about your freezing pipes problem. No fun when the inside basics come to a halt. Thanks for the bucket of water idea for the toilets that don't refill due to a frozen cold water pipe. And all of this time the Chief was unnecessarily going out in the yard and taking care of business along with his dogs when his pipes freeze. Must be a Southern thing.
On a final note, I love you guys when you post, "I have stopped buying trains and am going to thin things out a bit." The first thing never happens. Nor does the second.
DougM.......heard that all of the roads in Lake County were closed down due to the weather yesterday. I think it has been 32 years since that many cars got stuck in the snow and were abandonded on Lake Shore Drive.
HudsonJohn........hope all went well with the power down your way. The ice looked pretty bad. With the hours you have to put in with these weather events, who shovels your snow?
John Baker......don't worry, we'll send you some snow if you are feeling left out. Do you want white snow or yellow snow?
Brutus......I got to wondering how Chewy contends with all of the snow. Maximus is 28 inches tall and he has a hard time.
SJ........indeed, you seemed to have dodged a bullet with the storm. My FIL out near NavyJack and DougM got about 20 inches, but the drifts were almost 6 feet blown up against his glass sliding doors due to the high sustained winds and drifting snow.
Don..........like your wiring work. If you saw the tangle of wires behind my entertainment cabinet that has all of the audio and video equipment in it, you would tell me to rip it all out and start over. But it works.
JimmyT......I am still praying that you get an offer.
Prayers for those who need them. And as others have suggested, everyone take it easy with the snow removal or you will be taking it easier at a medical facility. My Dad never used to get flustered with these major snow events. He would observe "It will all be gone by June." Then he'd tell me to get off my rear and go shovel our snow and to not forget to do the neighbors'.
Good night, ya'll. Two ibuprofen and I'm off to bed!!!!!!!
Jack
IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.
Running late. Don - great work on that layout man! 8NT - yeah I think I had 2 to 4 inches of sleet over freezing/frozen rain here. We had snow as well, but it was mostly drifts at my house. The deepest on the driveway was about 6 inches I think. Around the truck it was down to just a couple inches or so. It took my kids and I about 1.5 hours to chip it out and shovel it off.
SJ - You know Chewy makes some powerful weather if it is blowing through your house from here TARDIS is ready so let's hit it with de-icers on full!
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
Good evening all,
Tonight would normally be a Bible study night for us, but it was cancelled due to the weather. The wife made chicken and dumplings for dinner tonight and it really hit the spot due to the frigid temps. The frozen pipes are beginning to resolve themselves: the washing machine and our toilet are now operable. It was very cold today, but very sunny as well. I believe the direct sunlight helped out.
Navyjack - You're not being nosey, I don't mind sharing details about what I do, especially with a vet. I believe pulling casualty assistance duty would not be very much fun. I don't have too many collateral (we call them additional) duties to worry about, and I enjoy serving too much to ever get down. Thanks for the encouragement.
Doug - We had a couple pipes freeze up before and they resolved themselves without any problems. We believed the pipes to the kids' bathroom froze up because they are located on the side of the house that gets the most wind, but our logic may be flawed since our bathroom pipes did as well this time. Maybe all the pipes are routed that way.
Pat - No kidding; at least the toilets were flushing. All I had to do was manually fill up the tank with water. I've used outhouses and port-o-johns in extreme weather conditions in the past and I don't want to ever again. However, it may have been a good lesson for my kids.
Good night,
All the Buckeyes are at fault. Can't aim a snow cannon. Turning colder but weatherman says all indications are for a warmer than normal Feb. Never got the rain promised. Only one tenth. Charging up those blasted MTH batteries. About time for Blue Bloods. Later

Happy Birthday RT! Glad you got something with flanged wheels on it's way to your abode. Temps are dropping and supposed to be in the 50s tomorrow. BRRRRR! Doug, our friends in Downers Grove had 1 foot of snow out the front door and 3 feet in the back. Must have been some wind with it.
Jack, they will not thank you, but do good anyway....their judgement doesn't count, but yours does. Just be careful and know your limits.
Gotta head to bed now as I have a big day of it tomorrow. Hope that everyone has a blessed night. I will keep praying for the mentioned needs.

Hey guys, a quick drive by..
RT...nice to be 21 ain't it?
for youse giz...
I havent read up much, been doing 12 hour stints and by the time I get home I eat a go to bed. Some times midnight fire calls. Missed one last night as the car was dead and iced over. Recharged the battery and all was good again.
Major ice storm last night and this morning was only 1/2 hr. late.
OK...catch up on my mail and hit the hay...
I am the monster in your head...And I thought you'd learn by now, It seems you haven't yet.I am the venom in your skin --- Breaking Benjamin
Getting super-colder. We ventured out for pizza. Not too many others out. Joe, we're fortunate in not having had issues with frozen pipes. I hope yours resolve themselves. Glad I remembered to clear the dryer vent and intake and exhaust pipes for the furnace!
Don, that's going to be a beautiful layoutSJ, I blame Chewey for the weather too.
It is clearing off somewhat in SE Indiana. Went over to check on dad today. 5 minute trip took 15. He is doing ok. Neighbors check in on him. Called the office today. Out of 35 who could be there, only 2 made it in today and 6 on Tuesday. Indy really got hammered. Drove on some of the main roads here and they appear to be ok. Will attempt to go in on Thursday. It was kind of nice today to spend the day at home and not really have much to do. Lots of limbs down from the storm, but none hit the house and the brief warm front melted all the ice off the trees around here. Dodged a major bullet with this storm. I hope all of us stay safe thru all this bad weather. I had bacon and biscuits on the dining car for breakfast. TBIL with de-icers still on full power. I hope everyone has a good day.
green97probe I will also start listing some of my PW Lionel on ebay. I don't want to sell everything, I just want to clear out those 'why did I buy this?' items as they are starting to feel like a burden.

Jim thats exactly what I went thru just prior to Christmas thru mid January including one item I bought in December lol.

Well my birthday present to myself will be here Friday. (the train set off choochoo's that I won it will give me my first TMCC Steamer)
Thats the end for a while on buying trains oh well just about time to start getting some of the odd jobs done around here and working on the layout.
hope all up in the storm area doing okay.
talk to you all later

Well it is cold here - 7 last night and high of 19/20 today. Everything encased in ice and power grid struggling so we have been enduring rolling blackouts most of the day. 20-30 min of no power followed by 1 - 1.5 hours of power. The good news is not possible to work from home. When my power is on the power to the office on the other side of town is off - so no servers to connect to.
Sooo - it is time for 'da Chief to stop insulting the Nawtherners. You are taking the rest of us down dood!
Doug - I agree you definitely left the snow cannon on last night.
Ice so bad here they brought 20 snowplows from Amarillo to work on some of our worst roads. Somewhat comical.
Don B - that layout is looking good! BTW - did you give up your other business when you retired?
Later - keep warm!
Good Evening
19 and going down near 0 tonite.
Jim you are good at tinkering I'm sure you could fine tune a 783. Make sure the magnets are not rubbing against the drivers. Official snow depth 9 inches at Detroit airport. The guessers say we got less than others cause it turned to sleet during the nite. Granny said she heard it, all I heard was the wind(outside the house). Inside the house I blame it on Brutus' dog Chewy. Banilla is ready but land on the driveway, don't want to shovel us outta here..S.J.
RT,
Don,
Looks good. I should enlist you and 88 to redesign my layout.
SJ,
Thanks for the info on the 783. I am having a hard time talking myself out of one though.
Still no call. I need to finish taking the Christmas layout down tonight or tomorrow. I will also start listing some of my PW Lionel on ebay. I don't want to sell everything, I just want to clear out those 'why did I buy this?' items as they are starting to feel like a burden.
happy birthday rt. you deserve the best. you have given me a lot of comradship through the year. joe i did not mean to be nosy. hope those duties dont get you down. i had 17 collateral duties, some of which were a full time job by themself. navy and marine...no comp time...suck it up. god i remember the worst collateral duties that i had was caco, casualty assistance call officer. navyjack
Joe:
Still better than an Outhouse!

Good afternoon all,
It's blistering cold outside today, somewhere around 9 degrees and the wind is still blowing. The kids did not have school but I had work. The roads are pretty decent so I have not had any issues getting around.
Doug - We usually keep our faucets dripping as well. This time the weird part is how one bathroom is affected three different ways: the sink has cold water, but no hot; the shower has hot, but no cold; and the toilet will not refill after flushed. Our bathroom has three different issues as well, just as odd: my sink and the shower both are fine and have both hot and cold water; my wife's sink only has hot; and our toilet partially refills after being flushed. The part most troubling to my wife is our lines to the washing machine are frozen as well. I hope those lines thaw soon or I may be turning my underwear inside out .
Don – The layout is looking great. As already stated, the wiring looks very orderly and well done. Mine looks like a third grader rigged it up.
RT -
It's time to get back to work.
Fife, I thought of you but I guess it's just too far away to do you much good. I think that guy wants a lot of money for those dogs anyway. I would take one if I had the right kind of yard but I don't.
D.Baker, great looking layout! I love the looks of that wiring. Mine is a nightmare. The main thing I need at a minimum is more feeders to the track. Need to run that star wiring for DCS with two wires out and back for each connection. Have to decide on what size wire? I used speaker wire on the last one I ran over a long distance.
I'm still nursing a bad back and pains in left leg which limits the amount of work I would like to do. Got to get over this stuff so I can walk for exercise again. Probably see doctor again if it doesn't clear up soon.
Well, got to get ready to face the day,
Ray
SPMan
Mornin' All.
All youse guys in the ice & snow marathon can look on the bright side, you could be in Australia trying to recover from horrendous flooding and now facing a mega-typhoon.
Jack, Have you tried warm water on the hydrants or did your beer supply run out? Keep up the good work with the elders , I would skip the "users" though.
Traindood, Gotta keep that road open for special packages delivered by a big brown truck.
Don, That looks like a nice set-up. Great wiring , it doesn't look like a bowl of pasta.
Later !
afternoon all thanks for the wishes .
Been a miserble past 3 days including today I have caught something just feel like crap I'am at work as i'am functional but thats about it ache and feel droopy minor sniffles here and there and who know what else probaply why I thought last nights dinner stunk. 3 hrs and I get to go home woopieeee !!!!
Talk to you all later just really wanted to say thanks for the birthday wishes.
