Good Evening/Morning Guys,

Angel Mike C & family, Char & Brutus, Jerry Blaine & and our brother firefighters in MD & NJ.

Went to our HERO's funeral today, was an early start up at 0645 at Bordentown @ 0830 (16F at that time).  Lots of waiting outside.  Went past the casket and saluted with my 6 brother firefighters.  HUGE presence of fire, police, EMS & military - all branches.  Parents of SPC Ben Moore (age 23) greeted, shook hands and hugged everyone that paid their respects.  A wave of emotions from start to finish.  The idiots people from Kansas were a no show.  The Pastor that gave the eulogy at the grave made several references to those people and the bravery of SPC Moore and all of the military and emergency services that attended.  There were at least a mile processeion of emergency vehicles.  Afterwards we went to SPC Moore's fire house and after we sat down we were joined by Maj. Gen Strong who is commanding Ft. Momouth and will be transferring to Aberdeen Proving Grounds.  We talked and chatted.  And he thanked us for OUR service...and we thanked him for his.  Got home at 5 PM.  Emotional day indeed.

Fife - I heard about your LODD Firefighter and remembered Lutherville as I had passed by there a few times in my travels there.  As it turns out, he actually made a rescue prior to the flashover.  A career firefighter, left the fire service for the Secret Service.  Still volunteered.  I really wanted to go pay my respects, but I think it's not in the cards.  We lost 2 great people locally and 9 LODD's this week in the USA.  Thank your daughter for me for her service ... and you know the respect I have for you already..Smile, Wink & Grin.  It is a somber weekend here on the MidAtlantic.

Just got back from a "all class" High School reunion.  Was there about an hour or so.  Saw 3 people I knew...music was way to loud and "modern" for my liking and left with the rest of the "old" fogies...Laugh

JimmyT - Trust me it WILL happen...I got mine, you'll get yours soon enough...

Work is busy, but my first paycheck arrived and I am indeed grateful.  Tomorrow off to by an in car heater for the neon, pay some bills and buy some small items I need.  More snow coming Tuesday/Wednesday.  Had 4 inches Friday morning and still made it to work on time...

That's all from Exit 8 - stay warm, my friends...I'll check back later today!

I am the monster in your head...And I thought you'd learn by now, It seems you haven't yet.

New medicine is not sitting well with my wife.  I guess we will talk to the doctor about it Monday.  Continued prayers for Mike and your family and also for the family and friends of Jerry.  Hope that puppy settles down fast for you Laz Thumbs Up

Day off - played some video games, then took kids to 5 stores and they didn't get what they wanted.  My daughter has some money and wanted a new tv for her room, but we can't find one as small as she wants for the space where she wanted to put it.  My son just wanted a videogame.  He found it at Best Buy, but $2 more than they had it at Gamestop, so our last stop on the way home was Gamestop.  They sold out.  Oh well, I was done and we came home.  While out, I picked up turbotax and a new mouse for the laptop, which is wireless.  Read some train magazines including Trains and CTT today.

Tardis is ready, so let's get going!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good evening all,

The boys and I had a great day today.  We played the Wii for too long and didn't do much of anything else.  The older boy is still a bit under the weather so we had to remain inside.  I did paint a bridge I made for the layout, but that was the only layout work accomplished today.  I also ran the trains for about 30 minutes with the baby.  I only ran them for 30 minutes because he is 20 pounds now and after 30 minutes he gets quite heavy, plus I run conventional and have to work the transformers and manual switches.

I've been watching the UFC's Fight For The Troops which is on tonight.  There are some good fights on the card and they are raising money for wounded warriors, specifically those with traumatic brain injuries.  It is being held at Ft Hood and it's a great cause.

Chief - That is some great history you came across.  Farming was very important during WWII.  Also, I believe folks at home were encouraged to grow Victory Gardens as well.

SP Ray - Sorry for the loss of your friend.

Bob - Nice photo; that's the most snow I've seen all winter.

Back to the fights, good night,

Joe

Good Evnin' Ya'll From the Frozen Tundra that is Cape Ann Taxachussetts Tonight,

MikeC.....prayers continue for your Dad.  You would be proud of me.  I went over to the SIL's to watch a soccer game tonight.  Manchester United against ?  MU scored three quick goals in the first period and was pummeling the opposition before we switched over to the Celtics game.  Shaq is out a couple of games.....slipped on some ice and bruised a hip.  Celtics lost to the Washington Wizzards....what's with that.

RaySP......prayers for Jerry Blaine.  Based on what you wrote, he was a special man.

LAZ......take a break from cleaning up puppy poo and post some pictures of Minnie (or is it Minie as you first posted?).  Like you, the buzz up this way is we just might get another blizzard mid week.  Problem is, there is no place left to put the snow.  I have a 9-10 foot mound at the end of my drive and several 7 footers elsewhere.  By the way, the snowblower seems to have recovered with the gas additive and is running beautifully again, so I am ready.  Bring it on, Mother Nature!!!!!!!!!!

JimmyT.....The news of this interview is great!  I don't want to sound like a mother or a wife, but appearance counts in an interview as does preparation, down to the last detail.  You don't get a second chance to make a good first impression.  Go get em!

Bob......if you think about it, vistas like the ones around your place of work don't get any more majestic and beautiful.  Thanks for the pics.  Here in the Northeast, we have a stunningly HUGE full moon out over the ocean tonight framed by some interesting wispy cloud formations..

Dennis.....your cold weather is our warm weather this time of year.  Will be -8 here tonight, so I won't be taking my dog out in a t-shirt and shorts tonight......or in my PJs tomorrow morning either..

Chief.....although I don't envy you for the emotional toll going through your parents effects can take on you, the treasure trove you shared with us is filled with some fascinating items. Thumbs Up  After WWII ended, housing in Chicago was so tight that one got to wondering where all of the returning GIs lived before the war!   My folks didn't save much in the way of family keepsakes and memorabilia, didn't have anywhere to store or keep much.  When I was born my family of 5 and my grandfather were sadwhiched into a two bedroom apartment, and we were the fortunate ones.

SJ......I think Charlie is afraid to comment further on our innocent observations about the condition of his workspace. Whistling

Later, gang.  I have to go find my mink boxer shorts.  Smile, Wink & Grin

Jack.

GO BEARS, GO STEELERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...... Jack, our local bookstore has every mag ever printed - it's where I get my British model railroadin2g mags - I'll look for the Feb. issue of Doberman. What an awesome gift from your son. I wonder if the NWs are as loud as my 41 Army Transport?

............Teen is away at a church retreat and youngest going overnight to visit his g'pa. We'll be kid-less for the first time in a long time but just overnight.

DougM.....

I was given the wrong issue date.  My wife is in the December issue of Doberman Pinscher Magazine.....a full page add submitted by Sasanoa Dobermans with 6 pictures of Dobes and their handlers passing the Doberman Pinscher Club of America's Working Aptitude Evaluation.  She's the blonde with the pink hat on.  The national average failure rate for this evaluation kis about 60% but Pam/Maximus passed with flying colors.

As for your being kidless for the entire evening tonight, if you are reading this we are all very disappointed in you.  We are all here to help you to remember the things you should be doing with your precious time this evening.  Whistling  Sorry, running trains is NOT on the list.

I haven't run the NW2 yet.  I want to oil and lube it first, on my list of tomorrow's most important things to do.Thumbs Up

Evening all

Went for a walk down the access road after I closed up. Not too much of a sunset but here is a picture of it on the aspens.

Chief - I saw they had an article in Trains about railfanning in Salisbury, NC only a few hours from you. Thats the home of the NC Transportation Museum and a 39 stall roundhouse I would like to see some day.

Ray - sorry to hear about the loss of your friend

Mike - continued thought and prayers

Sad news today for folks in Southern California.  A longtime TCA member and noted train collector, Jerry Blaine, passed away this morning after a battle with throat cancer.  He was a friend of mine and I was priviledged to have shared many train meets and good times with him.  Jerry used to put on a grand Christmas party every year for his friends.  He had quite a prewar standard gauge and O guage collection and had a feature article done on him in Classic Toy Trains several years ago.  Maybe the folks at CTT can tell me what year that was.  He will be missed by all of us here. R.I.P. Jerry.

Evening all.  Yankee raid just like during the War of Northern Agression.  Charged in on the coast but us Rebs pushed them back out.  They did leave from 3 to 6 inches of snohio on the beaches and a little ways inland.  Never made it to the farm down east.  It is COLD though.  Cold tomorrow with some mix Monday and possible snow into Tuesday and maybe a little Wednesday.  They can't tell now.

Tired.  Been going through Mom and Dad's stuff.  Got old things like gas rations from WWII, his Army stuff [passes, menu from Christmas Army party, Army reunion after the war], Army pictures [tanks and jeeps, he was jeep driver for the Cpt. Co. Commander, CO C, 709 Tank Btn.] and letters he wrote home.  Then found letters from his buddies while in France and Germany.  His Cpt. wrote him from hospital in England.  Dad was lucky.  He did not stay in during the entire war.  He got sent home to run the farm as Granddad got sick [only son].  I read his discharge papers.  Also was sent home due to owning his own farm and no one to manage it.  Interesting.  Farming was that important during WWII.   Lots of old pictures of folks I had never seen before as they were dead before I was born.  Old deeds and letters.  Some from my Great Granddad in the Confederate Army.  A picture of Dr. Columbus T. Eagles.  He was in the Army of NC too.  He is the Uncle of my Granddad and who Granddad, Daddy, Myself and Frankie were named after.

Now for some rest.  Waiting for Pam to come home.  She went by her Sister's to drop off things SIL was going to keep [Mom had new shoes and boots and Kim wears the same size.  Dishes and bowls we do not want].

Good afternoon all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 20s.  Dad is resting comfortably.  Family doctor came in and talked to all of us today and laid out the entire picture for dad.  Oncologist will be in early this week to lay out some options of care for us.  Thank you all again.

I had cereal and a donut on the dining car for breakfast.  TBIL anytime and I can drive.  Thoughts and prayers going out to all.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good afternoon all,

It is going to be a mild Saturday, probably in the upper-40s.  It will be up and down the next few days.  My wife and daughter went to OKC today with my wife's friend who was visiting.  The boys and I will hopefully get some layout work accomplished, play the Wii, and build more Lego projects.

Doug - It's amazing what you can accomplish when you are kid-less for a day, even if it is just you and your wife enjoying some quality time alone.

See you all later,

Joe

Morning all.  Was up early to drag some limbs to the burn pile.  Was going to burn today, but too windy.  Need to use the chainsaw on a few of them as they are too big.  Doug, as I am sure you are aware, we got a arctic blast and it is only supposed to get in the 50s today.  Started out in the high 20s early, but has quickly warmed.

Going to catch up with some friends for our annual collective birthday dinner.  Should be fun.  hope to check in with y'all later.

Good Morning

Cold 10 degrees, winter is here for sure.

Doug # 2 son works in the collision shop for a Dodge dealer, so the dealership gets freebies. Grannys going bowling for a benifit today, I'm not sure it's a good idea as her knees are not good, but as all married men know, we are mostly dummies and know very little about anything.

Aloha all. Bitter cold on its way east. Sorry. Taking to checking the weather down Dennis' way - just to sigh and be jealous. Big Smile Wow, what a lot to catch up on here. Welcome back from vacay, Bob. Sounds like you got a lot accomplished. Nevada Northern is a good road. Good luck on Tues' interview, JimJack, our local bookstore has every mag ever printed - it's where I get my British model railroadin2g mags - I'll look for the Feb. issue of Doberman. What an awesome gift from your son. I wonder if the NWs are as loud as my 41 Army Transport?  Laz, welcome to Minie (as in the ammo?) or Minnie (as in Mouse)? Just in time for her to become a Bears fan.  SJ, I'm thinking of taking the younger brood to the Chicago Auto Show, but the tickets are hilariously expensive. Glad you got in for free.

Teen is away at a church retreat and youngest going overnight to visit his g'pa. We'll be kid-less for the first time in a long time but just overnight.

Another exciting day of looking for fuzzy green caterpillars in space (that's what the data looks like). Woke up a 3AM after going to bed early last night. We finally hired a new operator. Now I get to start training him and maybe eventually I'll get back on somewhat of a regular schedule.

While looking for a new calendar I found a box car in N-scale for the Nevada Northern (they did calendars one year). Will be nice to a have a piece of rolling stock from my old volunteer railroad.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Mornin' gentlemen.  Mornin' Chief...   A S.E.Ohio kinda day here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Today is the day I take down the Bank layout.  Got a lot of nice comments.  Will store it in the basement.

Phish - Yes, when I read the caption, I immediately wanted to start a letter writing campaign to have it corrected in the next issue, but I figured hey...  It is a fine looking specimen.

26 going down to 11 tonight....high of only 25 for Saturday!

Mike - Most of us probably know all too well what you're going through. Just this past October we lost my brother-in-law, he was only 47 and never smoked. It was a five year battle with throat cancer. I knew him since he was 9. It was hard. But you're not alone if you have family for support. May the next few months be as easy for your dad and for your family too. Just be there for each other. We are all different but my wife, being the oldest, took it real hard, I noticed that she was at her best helping and consoling others, seemed to take her mind off of her own troubles, you never know.

Good evening everyone.  Been keeping busy as I have several thousand photos from the last movie we filmed and I had to put them on drives to send to Sony.  Just in case they need some images for the advertisement, etc.  Technically, they become the property of Sony, but I have all the originals.

Fife, sad news about the firefighter and the flash-over.  I never got caught in one, but know of some who have.  One guy from I think Elizabeth, NJ has done some burn foundation talks about his experience.  He had most of the damage to his hands as his nomex gloves were wet from an earlier job and he wore department issue.  Lucky to be alive.

Mike, will continue with prayers for your dad.  Pancreatitis is a bad thing.  Hope they are able to clear things up quickly...your dad has enough to deal with.

Laz, congratulations on the new pup.  Crate training is definitely the way to go.  Look forward to some photos as I am sure she will be a looker!

God BLess,
Dennis

Prayers for parents, wives and kids.  Good news on the job front, James T!  Hope that works out, sounds great!  Worked today and only ran into two accidents on the way, so the roads were not too bad.  Wife finally got some replacement medicine for that one that the manufacturer ran out of (out of which they ran?).  This med isn't as good so hoping more of the other will be available next month.  She has only gone without for a full month now.  Geeeeezzzzz.  OTOH, it cost me $40, but was over 900 retail.  Thank God for our insurance!  Nice chat with SJ tonight.  Tardis is ready, I'll drive.
