Good morning all,

Well, Duke's win streak is now over as FSU continued to play well in the second half of last night's game.  Duke missed too many three-pointers, but in the end they were beaten by a team that executed very well.

Today is the last day of very cold weather.  The next few days will see highs in the 40s; however, it is supposed to drop back down next week and we might possibly see some snow.  I have a great deal of paperwork to accomplish at work today which will keep my tied to my desk until I leave the office this evening.

You all enjoy your day; it's time for me to wear out my keyboard.

Good Mornin' Ya'll From Buried But Sunny Taxachussetts,

Snow front moved on last night and the snowfall stopped.  I figure it will take a few days until the state and local politicians start carping about how the entire snow budget for the 2010-2011 season has already gone into the red.  Last year they did the same thing, and we got about half of the average snowfall for the Winter.  They underfund, then scream the sky is falling while falling over patting themselves on the back for the snow removal.  This year we're at about 42 inches so far, about average for the entire annual average.

Was up at 5:30AM, fired up the snowblower, and got the driveway bottom cleared out.  I'll go across the street and dig out the fire hydrant in a bit, then start on the front and rear stairs.  One of the channels doing the weather has forecast one overnight in the single digits later in the week.  We may not be seeing lawn for a month or two.

Dennis......continued prayers for your complete recovery from that cornea injury.  Guess we should all start wearing protective eye gear when working on Christmas trees.  The OSHA Christmas Tree unit may launch a full blown investigation into the matter.  I've poked myself more than once, crawling around decorating and/or undecorating.

MikeC.....continued prayers for your wifey too, hope she isn't in too much discomfort.  I am a lot older than you, and these skin issues are affecting more of the older folk in our realm of acquaintance than not.  Back in "the old days" almost no one used any sun screen, got fried early and often, paying the price now.  The younger tanning salon generation will find out the hard way.

Don.....I think we should hold a fundraiser for your implant.  But we need a headliner, like your talented neighbor. Whistling

Traindoc.......kudos to you for volunteering for that medical mission.  My niece works for a major pharmaceutical company that provides their employees with paid leaves to travel to ravaged areas to volunteer their help.  She does about two per year and completed one in PR.  Her stories of the abject poverty, destruction, and overwhelming medical need are moving.  Little has been accomplished in the aftermath, and her accounts of the beaurocratic red tape and bungling quite discouraging.

Laz.....re your offer to help me with the snow removal.  That was a touching gesture, but I am afraid the Ole Mil expense would bust the budget, and then some.  On the other hand, you could take Maximus the dog on some 3 milers.

JimmyT.....enjoyed that video of the contrating AF smoke units.  Thumbs Up  You are right handed, aren't you.  You seemed to be having difficulty srcrewing back the cap while filming.  Laugh

Rich.......prayers have been answered, and today is the real first day of your new job.  Congratulations!!!!! Thumbs Up

Chuck.....I've got a good supply of some yellow snow in the munitions depot for the next barrage aimed at Roseyville. Big Smile

McRoy.......the Winter Texas weather is not what so many of us think it is.  I just took on another 160 gallons of home heating oil, just short of 6 weeks after the last delivery.....but that sort of expense is expected up here in the Northeast.

Later, gang.

Good morning all,

It finally has stopped Snohioing in SE Indiana, but temps are still cold.  Did not post this morning as I wanted to leave a bit earlier in case roads were bad.  They were ok.  NO soccer last night due to school being closed yesterday.  Good news is that they will start sessions at 7 PM and so I can get to bed at a decent hour those nights.  Sigh.....maybe next week.  Did watch the President's speech last night.  Very powerful, very moving (this is not a political observation).  Not much else going on except shoveling snow.  I had bran muffins again on the dining car for breakfast.  TBIL any time tonight and I can drive.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

That's weird.....my Pot posting from earlier this AM reposted all by itself two hours later while I was outside putting the snowblower and shovels away (again).

I need your help.

Just got in from more snow removal.  In my neck of the woods, the citizens are asked to voluntarily keep the fire hydrants clear of snow and ice, suggesting a dug-out radius of at least 24 inches so fire crews can hook up quickly if need be to put out a fire..  Those folks that are not able to keep them clear are backed up by the fire department.  These guys go around post storm and clear the ones left that need clearing.  That is brutal physical work because many of the hydrants in the residential areas are located on the parkways (treelawns, or whatever you call them), within 5 feet of the street curbing.  The snowplows bury the hydrants in a mixture of compressed snow and ice, in this case, about 5-6 feet of it.

After snowblowing around my front stairs and my mailbox (engine fired right up, was running beautifully for 25 minutes),  civic-minded citizen Jack marches across the street to the general vicinity of the now buried fire hydrant with gassed up (oil clean and full) snowblower and shovels, and then commences exploratory excavating by hand, first knocking down the mounds.  Then I began moving the stuff with the beautifully running snowblower.

Ten minutes in, the beautifully running snowblower engine----out of the blue---- sputters and dies.  Can't restart manually, so I push snowblower back across the street to my garage, hook up the electric cord, and restart the thing.  Fires right up immediately, no cranking, no sputtering.  Back to the excavation site with the snowblower running beautifully.  Five minutes or so later, it sputters and dies again.  Repeat process.  Same result.  I had to finish the job by hand!!!! Bang Head

The snowblower was serviced one year ago, including a tuneup and carb rebuild.  Last April I put STABIL dry gas in the gas tank and ran the thing for 10 minutes as always after last season was done.  Bought and used fresh gas (Mobil) to start this season.  I always fill the gas tank in my garage to insure no blowing snow gets in the tank.  I am stumped.

What could be wrong?  I am hoping something got wet and needs to dry out.  I bought gas for it the night before the storm hit and had no issues all day yesterday with hours of run time.

Afternoon fellas.

When you think things can't get worse... stop thinking because it typically does. My problem is I can't stop thinking that it can't possibly get any worse. Bang Head. Been rewriting code for 2 days to compensate for a third-party developers database change! Finally have it working in the dev environment, deploy to production... more problems! Bang Head Now our IT support isn't responding to calls, emails, or IMs... Bang Head.

Jack - I dunno. I FINALLY got to use my new snow thrower yesterday morning. No issues. I am concerned that I should have put STABIL in the gas prior to filling the tank, but I've never done that with the tractor and had no issues season to season... Your problem sounds like either bad spark or bad gas. I would get a new spark plug, and if that doesn't work call Chief regarding bad gas... according to Buckeye Chief is an expert in that field. Jack,

Could be water in the gas from all the snow  "dust"  getting into the gas tank. Drain the tank and float bowl if you can. and check  the fuel filter. It could be passing enough fuel to run no-load but not enough to throw snow. I'm doubtful of water on the electrics because you've be running it enough to keep it dry.

Evening all!

Looks like the high today will only make 39, but 60 by the weekend!

Jack - hate to say it, but what you are doing wrong is called a "good deed." Nothing ever works right when one is trying to do a "good deed." The same thing occurs with a lawnmower or weedwacker when you try to help out with a neighbor's yard (or you loan a neighbor your lawn mower). The motto is "no good deed goes unpunished."

The good news for those kids is baby skunks do not have developed scent glands. The bad news is mama skunk does have them and is usually close by!

Have a great evening all!

JACK,

I agree with BANKS could be moisture in the tank.  Try some dry gas, I think they still sellit.

Hope it works out, but it sounds like that or mabe try regapping the plug, if its sputtering.

Just what you do not need, Jack - and Brent for that matter. Ugh. This is why I have an electric snow-thrower. Let's see it starts fine, runs fine for a while, then dies.  So something is happening after it starts fine and warms up to cause it to die. How tight is the fuel cap? I can't imagine moisture getting in there. Did you recently add fuel?

Good evening

25 today and still cloudy

Although it may not be the fuel/water, it's the reason I always run my outdoor motors dry at the end of their season. It's been a quiet day so I'll just get the banilla ready for the thingy...S.J.

Jack....Because I use a snowblower extensively, one trick I have found is to use 89 octane gas.  It just seems to start better.  I also completely run all the gas out of the tank at the end of season.   Good luck!!

Evenin' All.

This are showing signs of drying out, FINALLY.

Jack, This came about when you started working the stuff around the hydrant, right. Does the snowblower have an "overload/kill switch" that could be kicking in from the compacted snow & ice from plows, etc.?

Went looking for a new motor for my Lionel FT's, I know you aren't going to believe this but they are unavailable from Lionel. Who'd a thunk it.

Gettin' ready to fry some buttermilk chicken, check in later.

Evening all

It has been a while since I’ve had time to swing by and catch up.  Lots of snow but the roads are clear.  Going to be working on the Avalon this weekend.   It threw a PO135 code S1B1.  Turns out to be the oxygen sensor and of course the hardest one to get to.

Cleaned up a couple of AF accessories.  A #50 School house and a 595 tower.

Good evening all,

We had another quiet evening at home which is a great thing.  We had hamburgers tonight for dinner; mine had bacon, mushrooms, and barbecue sauce on it.  I know my neighbors think I am nuts for firing up the grill when it's about 30 degrees outside, but I thought it felt great.  I did not do anything with the layout tonight or run any trains.  I need to spend some time this weekend cleaning and lubricating the locomotives; I have not done it before so I will be doing some research to make sure I get it right.

My wife and I just finished watching House Hunters International and I believe I will turn in early tonight.

Good night,

Joe

Man,

Can you guys ever get things all confused!  I am sure glad I live out here in the land of "Fruits and Nuts" I think the snow is getting to you all.  Just to recap...

We got Dennis recuperating from an eye injury from taking down a Christmas tree.

Then Fife was curious about how big the implant was or maybe he thinks there was multiples, (he must have been thinking I was having it done on two teeth.),  While Doug Murphy is impressed with the whole idea. And,  SP Ray has experience with removable ones.  Roy on the other hand thinks its better to be in a accident first, to have full benefit of the reconstructive benefits. Brutus, would rather go buy a bridge somewhere. The new guy (Train Doc), thinks I should find a reasonable dentist, (thats an oxymoron),  Then the Chief thinks it should be done in the "head" somewhere.  Jack is tying to organizer a fundraiser, and ends up crashing his snowblower into a fire hydrant.  To which Lionroar thinks the Chief can resolve with his gas activity and knowledge.  Then Pat comes along and was in a very sharing mode.  Suffice it to say, it doesn't take much and this group will get it all switched around.  Think I'm going to pass on the whole thing.

Busy day today, Not much time for trains.  Friday going to replace a window regulator. Take care

Good morning all,

It is dry and cold in SE Indiana with temps in the 20s.  Did some grocery shopping for the "saucy wench", but she is getting around better.  Took it easy last night.  Nothing major planned for the three day weekend.  I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast.  TBIL anytime tonight.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Morning all.  early out to take Lucy to groomer.  Was so balmy when I got home, I serviced the 4 Runner [that I never got to do the other day].  Now off to a meeting in Raleigh.

Dennis, get well.  Got new Leupold VX3 Varmint Special scope for .22-250.  Hunters Haven took old one in at exact new price trade as only used a few times and in new shape.

Hello all,

Busy as he** lately. Still cold. We got about 4" of snow out of the storm that dumped on Jack.

Did we get the implants figured out?Confused

 I owe Dennis a belated Happy B-Day and a happy 31st anniversary to????(I'm having a brain cramp)

Got to pick up beef from butcher shop in the morning. Then get it wrapped and in the freezer. We'll make some hamburgers and meat balls too. Hope to get Son's snowplow finished after that. By the way he is a Licensed "Hostler" now. Sorting them out to get the one they want into the shop.

Jack, did you get the snow blower going?

Hoping for some train time Sunday.

Best get back to the SS fund.

Prayers for all those in need.
