Hi gang, just a quick check in because I'm pretty worn out from setting up layout for the Cal Stewart train meet today in Pasadena.  Show opens at 9:00 AM tomorrow morning.  Need to get some rest so I can get up early.  Will look for our buddy D Baker at the show.  He is going to have a table to sell stuff he says.  Talked to our layout leader today about train theft he had a while back and was glad to hear that it was insured.  However, some items that were personal can not be replaced at any price.  Will try to give a report on the show tomorrow.

Ray

Back from watching the pastor's youngsters (so he and his wife could go out without having to pay a sitter). One was coughing hard. Hope I avoided the germs. Laz, those gensets are supposed to be some of the most beautifully detailed engines ever.  I'm sorry for your upcoming decision, Fife.

Hi GUYZ,

Well went down BARRYs TRAIN SHOP to pick up CHIEFs and my NS GENSETs.  Brought mine home, CHIEF yours is going out Monday morn.  All I gotta say is what a sweet engine this thing is.  Ran it tonite with NO PRBLEMs!!!  Great looking and better running GENSET!!  Lionel really outdid themselves with these GENSETs.

FIFE,

Really sorry to hear about your best friend.  I just lost my bestest buddy of 12.5 years on Sept 8th this year and it still gets to me.  I will be getting another LAB in the summer of next year.  Dwell on all the great times she has given you.  I still do everyday.  Sometime I even hear her, but don't tell anyone?

Stay frosty,

Good evening all,

It was cloudy in SE Indiana today.  I did not do much of anything today, but I am feeliing better.  I hope to get outside tomorrow and get some work done.  Not all the leaves are down, but I still need to work on them and I may hang the outisde Christmas lights if the weather cooperates.  Other than that I have nothing else to report.  TBIL anytime.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Fife,

Sorry to hear about your dog.  We had to put our previous dog to sleep in 2002 after 15 years due to severe arthritis, so I unfortunately know how tough this type of thing is to deal with.

I finally got around to testing the 312AC that I got last Sunday, and I finally bought something at a show that actually runs as the seller stated.Thumbs Up  Needs absolutely nothing.  I got a nice box and wrapper off the bay for $40 to go with it, so I am I 100% satisfied with this one.  Also got 5 more pieces of narrow tie roadbed in today.

Good evening everyone.  Been a relatively good day.  Wife's best friend who lives in Ohio is on her last legs with cancer.  Rather somber evening here....Perhaps we have to make arrangements for bride to go visit.

Fife, we have had several of those lately.  Seems you never get an isolated bit of gang activity.  Always payback and one upmanship.  Would make life easier for everyone else if they would just put them all in a big cage and eventually they will remove each other from the gene pool.  Sorry to hear about your dog.  It is a tough choice to make.  When they can't walk and when you know they are in pain....ARRRGH, I hate to go there.  God Bless on that front.

Chief, hope you had good luck with the 22-250.  With regard to cleaning, I usually would just use my Hart rest, which locked it in place very well.  I really need to get all the high power stuff out and get back to shooting again.

Joe, yeah, we love the time with the kids as they only stay young for so long.  But, we really love taking time to just be with each other.  Though those times are far too few, we do look forward to them.

We are about finished with our Christmas shopping.  Son's metal detector arrived today, as did my new lens.  We also got a bow and arrow set for our son and a bunch of other stuff on the way.  One thing my wife wants is for new hard wood floors....Sad In the mean time, I will try to make the laminate floors look their best.

God Bless,
Dennis

Evenin' boys.  A cool 50 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Gonna pick wifey up in a few and take her out.  It was a F1 funnel that touched down 4 miles south of our house this week.  Much of that day was spent dealing with power outages in the area.

Yatchet comes out Monday.  Perhaps one last cruise tomorrow, then stowing the sails.

Our 13-14 year old collie is on his last legs (literally).  Tough choice ahead.

DOUG M.,

I watched the first quarter, they're not that bad, but CUTLER gotta get rid of the ball faster he's holding it to long.  I thought it was the OL, but instead of taking 3 steps back look one way then the other then release, he's taking way to much time.  Oh well a wins a win.  Have faith buddy.

Classic November weather here today.  Cold, cloudy and drizzle.

...........The prototypes I built last weekend are passing tests.  I can do with some good news like this on my rush projects.  Two down and one to go.  Unfortuantely, the one to go looks like it is going to need to be worked on during Thanksgiving weekend Sad.  I am manageing to avoid the situation meetings by publishing an update e-mail before I go home at night.  Two fold purpose - provides updated information for people in the morning and time stamps how late I'm having to stay to push these projects along - for whatever that is worth.

My wife has started water exercise sessions again.  Good for her back and reduces the stress on her knee.

All for now.

8N.......that's great news on the wifey front, just as long as she doesn't conclude that water therapy is better done on some Caribbean island.  Smile, Wink & Grin

Re the status update emails.  Wise on three fronts.  It keeps the rabble out of your hair with their inane and off-base "advice."  It cuts out the time waster meetings.  And it shows what you are made of when the chips are down in an emergency to those that count.  Thumbs Up

Aloha all. It is a tad brisk here at 33 but I can see the sun rising over Lake Michigan which is a good sign. Sorry for the goings-on by the Ohio lake house, Buckeye. TGIF indeed. Brutus and Doug, I sure wouldn't mind relocating to San Diego - especially as winter dawns. Laz, nice sloppy win for the Bears. I still am not 'believing' even though they are 7-3. First decent team they'll play - rare in today's NFL - they'll be crushed.  I was overjoyed to simultaneously run trains whilst watching the game on the little basement TV. No cornfield meets. I'm experimenting with a small LED flashlight as a simple way to add a marker to Percy's homemade brake van. Joe, did you win a door prize?  SJ, that sounds like you made a delightful choice to end up with a great day. I figure if I close my eyes or don't look out the window,  I wont see the leaves still out there.

Wow 27 and 38 for the day.

Grannys going on a trip with the church seniors, I passed as it also includes a boring christmas play. I will give the front yard leaves one last chop and then the mower gets drained for the winter. After that, hey the day is mine.

Morning all.  Took horse [Finn] to the groomers.  Will take Lucy week after next so she will be sharp for the Christmas Parade the first Sunday in Dec.  Had a good frost this AM in places.  Warming fast though.  Got a little Town stuff to do by phone.  Most of the day off.  May hunt foxes with .22-250 this afternoon.  Hope all have a great weekend coming up.  Later.

BTW:  Big DOT Engineer was whinnimg about having to build a highway [actually a 4 lane street] over some train tacks.  Was going to close the crossing for several weeks and divide the town in half.  Emergency services would be delayed to one half of the town due to detour.  Told them I had an Engineer Buddy in Ohizo who could do it and still maintain traffic flow over tracks.

Classic November weather here today.  Cold, cloudy and drizzle.

Ate at the Arby's for lunch yesterday.  As I pulled in, I noteced a pair of locomotives on the rail siding across the street from the resturant.  Unusual because they usually only run one locomotive for switching duties there.  I then noticed that the grain hopper and two or three box cars on the other side of the street next to the resturant looked a little odd - kind of tilted.  A closer look revealed that one set of wheels had slipped down between the rails, and on the other side the edges of the wheel flanges were on top of the rails.  OOPS!

The prototypes I built last weekend are passing tests.

Good night all.  Day started ay 5 AM and now to bed.  Long day of meetings.

Dennis, when I ordered my fiber cleaning rod, I ordered a cleaning vice.  Always used a cleaning cloth and table or the floor.  Sure makes cleaning easier and faster.  Should have bought one long ago.

Sleep tight.

Good evening all,

I just returned a short while ago from the Northwest Oklahoma Law Enforcement Association’s holiday dinner.  It is held at one of the local correctional facilities, which means some inmates make us a turkey dinner.  The food is good; about what you would expect at a prison.  The dinner was fun and some nice door prizes were handed out, but unfortunately none of the prizes had flanged wheels.

Tomorrow, the family and I are off to Abilene, TX.  We will attend a wedding on Saturday.  We will return on Sunday.  It should be a fun trip.  We used to live there when I was stationed at Dyess AFB so we still have many friends there.

Dennis - The wife and I take full advantage of having lunches together while the older two are at school.  However, the baby will make his presence known from time to time.  I hope your son gets well soon.

CNW - I wonder if that Hobby Town moved to another location.  You would have thought they would have had a closeout sale if they were shutting down.  I do agree with Dennis: I never saw any good deals at their chain when I visited.

Mike C. - I hope you feel better.

Good night,
Joe

Good evening everyone.  Has been a nice day with the exception that our son is on the sick side.  Has a fever and feels bad.  Most likely, he will stay home tomorrow, which he hates as he was to go on a field trip.  Oh well.

Have to share a local story.  Fife, you are going to love this.  Two gang bangers trying to initiate into a local gang were to break into and rob an occupied house.  Only the house that they broke into just happened to be full of rednecks playing cards and pool.  The bad guys pulled out their pistols, only to face a bunch of guys with bigger guns.  The bad guys took a few rounds as they tried to escape the house.  The rednecks dragged them back into the house and beat the stew out of them!

Doug, I have had that happen.  It is a shame that these places just vanish.  The hobby town in Columbus kept dwindling their supply of trains and I no longer bother to stop in....they never had anything below suggested retail and were most unfriendly.  I doubt they will be in business much longer.

I had better get some sleep.
God Bless,
Dennis

Oooh, I'd like a 'Black Friday' for toy trains. LOL. Back from Christmas shopping with the bride.  Shocked to find the local Hobby Town USA has vanished. I was just there. Never even know it was closing and now it's cleaned out like it never existed. Spooky.

sir james I

A late Good Morning

40/50s today, some sun.

...........I think tomorrow will be my last leaf chopping day, anything after that can stay. I'll empty the gas from the mower and run it dry.

S.J.

Just got in from doing that, SJ.  Dropped the blade to the shorter Winter height recommended.  I think I'm finally done with mowing and leaf pickup for 2010.  But I still have to do some final garden cleanup, put my wife's pots away, remove the last remaining items from the deck, and drop a coat of the Winterizer fertilizer.  It never ends.  I noticed the SIL returned coolers he borrowed, but he did not return them in the condition received, clean, and I am missing one......will have to clean those out as well and chase him down for the missing one.  Thumbs Down Bang Head.

Has everyone fired up their snowblowers yet?  Big Smile

I had forgotten how much fun running old engines could be, going to do it again soon. Good morning.  Looks great outside, but I hear it is on the cool side.  Supposed to head to 70 today.  Wife took the kids to school this morning which gave me a chance to sleep in.

Joe, I hear you about date nights and leaving the kids with strangers, or teenage baby sitters.  We have no family close to us, so for a very long time, dates were few and far between.  Now, we take advantage when we are both home when the kids are at school...lunch date, or when we can arrange for some friends to watch them.  But it has taken us 5+ years to get to this point.

Wouldn't it be nice if the train manufacturers and dealers had "Black Friday" for us?  Somehow, I think we are only going to have higher prices in the year to come.

God Bless,
Dennis
