Off to meetings for most of the day. Never had any bad weather around us. Just west and north of us. The "critters" have found the cat feeding station under the garage [detached two bay]. Will be humane and catch them in live trap and relocate.

Morning all. Getting ready to head in. Had a nice dinner last night with the work crowd....but I prefer to stay home with my family. I have my Lackawanna A-B-A set to arrive tomorrow. Looking forward to it. Also, I went by Hobby Lobby and picked up some Life-Like figures and town scenery. Normally the packages are $16, they are on clearance for $6.
Brutus, while I may not mention it every post, I do keep Char in my prayers. She has had a long road to tote and continues. Glad she is progressing. Sorry for you and the kids, know you miss having her home. Hope she is healthy enough real soon. Don't want to push things as you said, she has a lot to over come.
Don, now that is an interesting set of autographs. You do have a great idea about returning them. Most of mine are in a closet or a stack under the cabinets. They are low on the wife's priority list.

A bit cooler today only getting to 65. GOLF tonite after school with BRO, then down to WAYNES.
Autographs, none don't want any either. They are just people just like you and me. Wouldn't waste my time or money standing in line to get an autograph.

Today is a busy day. Grocery shopping and all the usual chores. Will be busy until this afternoon.
LAZ.... I agree about autographs. I only have one. Clayton Moore ( The Lone Ranger), autographed his book for me. That was a great meeting.

Aloha all. WInd gone - super-quiet out. Ready to take the middle boy and his friend to school. Hope to find a pumpkin patch to visit with the youngest after picking him up from school. Ran trains last night. All went well. Browsed the Christmas village items at Home Depot. Good prices but I'm only buying to fill particular spaces these days and nothing 'jumped out' at me. Brutus, good news about Char. You'll love that Armstrong book. I get some of his layout books from our library regularly. Definitely planned my layout his way - what are my givens and druthers, etc?

I have time for a quick note before I bury myself in paperwork for the day. It was another wonderfully cool morning today. It’s a shame to have to get out of bed so early on mornings like these. The only thing planned for after work is to add the finishing touches to my 7y/o son’s costume.
Autographs: I pretty much agree with Laz and Chuck; I don’t see myself acquiring any nowadays. However, I had acquired some when I was kid. Tug McGraw signed my Little League glove and sometime back in the mid-80’s I was able to hang over the edge of the Yankees dugout one game and hand a baseball to Willie Randolph. The ball came back signed pretty much by the whole team. I was ecstatic, but alas, my older brother decided to use that ball one time and ruined it. I still give him grief about it. I have no idea as to the whereabouts of that Little League glove either – c’est la vie.

Back at work for another week. We are pretty much open for business at this point collecting photons. Still some bugs to work out on the new system, but we are really getting there. Speaking of bugs, the Mothinator 2000 XL is working well. I'll try and post some pics.
Jack - they are getting the snow removal equipment ready. We did get a bit of a dusting last week. And the moon was nice coming up last night.
The Camo Thompson Center .223 bolt action just came in. It has adjustable trigger.
Chief, I knew I like you. I know opinions may fly, but was hoping not to hear about another AR-15 or knock-off, and you made me proud!

NavyJack - I unpacked the 8607 this morning. Looks in good shape, but has a few scuffs so it is a good candidate for a repaint (It's already gray but want black or blue striping. The tender is a bit rougher (324246) but w/ a little bodywork should clean up and paint fine.
Ol' Timer - weren't you making a scrap yard? The tender came w/ a busted up 6357 caboose shell. I can use the frame and trucks, but if you want the shell let me know. Would be great for anyone making a later layout where they are now using FRED's only.
Not much more work on the Corvair yet, but I did pick up trans and axle seals so I can flip the axles (3.27 and 3.54) on the 3 and 4 speeds.
Oh, and not that I know squat about fire-fighting, but I don't think we do much drafting in AZ

Dennis, interesting to hear you are keeping up your violin lessons. I envy anyone who can play that instrument well. I took lessons in grammar school but we lost our teacher after one year. How long does it take to make a good sound when you play? Most of the kids in school programs I have heard sound pretty scratchy. My grandson is in his third or fouth year with the violin now in middle school. I would like to be able to play some of the pretty waltzes. I heard one recently on an album of music from the guilded age around 1912. It was called Destiny Waltz by Sydney Baynes who I believe was an English composer.
Thought about all you hunters out there when I read in the paper today of the National Park Service need to reduce the deer population at Valley Forge. I think the shooting will be done by the park service people though at night time. I guess the deer are too many for the amount of forage. Looks like man is the only predator left in some of these places to keep things in balance.
Time to run some trains.

Cold and greyer. Made me clear the back deck, stack the furniture, take apart the grill and then hang the bikes from the garage ceiling and store the mower and hoses. Whew! Then took a break to vote 'early' - had to hold my nose... Clerk said I was voter # 12,970 - a new record for early voting. Talking about autographs and baseball made me wonder: did you have a 'signature' mitt? Not a real signature but a big-leaguer 'style' - mine (which I still have and use 37 years later is Mel Stottlemeyre. LOL.

Autographs - My 2 fav's are Brooks Robinson and Richard Petty. Others in the Nascar room are Tony Stewart, Mark Martin, Matt Kenseth, Harry Gant, Robby Gordon, Chad Little, Kyle Petty, Bobby Hamilton, Darrell Waltrip and Larry Foyt.
On the RR side - MTH's Mike Wolf, former Lionel front man Bill Bracy, Hal Carstens, and a "special" letter from Neil Besougloff.
Fifepup, ever the Ravens fan, has Terrell Suggs, Lardarius Webb, Terrence Cody, Haruki Nakamora, John Harbough, Ray Rice, and an autographed football by Joe Flacco. He also has a few old Orioles signatures from Dick Hall, Boog Powell, and Mike Flannigan.
When we go to a signing, we always ask the player to "personalize" it with our names, so it kinda lets them know we aren't gonna hawk it on ebay as soon as we get home.
Now, the one that got away. I worked a rural post for a dozen years, and Johnny Unitas lived in my area. I would talk to him monthly, usually as he walked to the post office. He knew me by name, and was always nice. As badly as I would have loved to have had his autograph, I never felt comfortable asking him. It was enough for me to just be a recognized face to him.

Got my .22-250 Remington 700 Varmit Special with Leupold scope today. May get a folding bi-pod for the 700. Has the sling attachment and bi-pod attachment already there. Heavy gun. Bull barrell and extra big stock in the "fore" section [vented too]. The Thompson Center and Leupold scope is waiting for Warne rings [they used the last ones on the 700. Thompson, MAN what a trigger!]. Gun safe is now getting real full.

On the autograph subject, the only autograph I have is from Mike Wolf when he autographed a 2006 catalog for me while at the open house at Brady's Train Outlet in Greensburg. It was great to meet and talk with him. I've got the catalog stored in a drawer with Probe parts so that it is safe.
On the other hand, my brother went to some convention and got three pictures taken with that guy who played Bud on Married With Children for $25 each. He always used to tell me that I wasted money...
Has anyone been to Best Buy lately? They are remodeling the stores in the area, and I am not sure if it is a chain wide deal. I like the new look. I picked up Assassin's Creed 2 for the 360 again since I started to miss the copy I sold in July.
I bought two AF steamer motors for $5 each tonight on ebay. The only downside is that the wires are broken off both fields, but the armatures and brush brackets are good. My 4 piece 302 is in need of an armature due to a badly grooved commutator.

Tonight was Trick or Treat, I took the kids around the neighborhood. They received WAY too much candy. We'll let them have a pice a day for a bit then it will dissapear.
The 271 set came in today. Nice pieces, I am happy with them.
We pick up a new to us '08 Odyssey in the morning. Bride anxious to get it. I'll tell more about it later.

Just got home from funeral home. My first mentor, Henry (police and model rr) passed away this weekend. When I was a cadet on desk duty, he would give me old copies of Model Railroader, and once I had the bug, he took me trackside and turned me into a railfan. Through him, I joined the Triangle & Western Model RR club, and shortly thereafter, I became the scenery chairman. He actually lived across the street from my first duty station, and whenever it snowed heavily, he would let me crash on his sofa bed. Henry was a charmer, and was also a huge Western Maryland Railway fan. I mentioned him as one of my influences in my Jan '08 article.

I finished my son's robot costume tonight. I'll post a picture or two tomorrow. It's not going to win any awards; it has a retro look to it. He likes it - probably because I put lights on it.
It should drop down to 32 degrees tonight. We still have the windows open which should make for some great sleeping tonight if the baby lets us.
Probe - Your brother will never have the return on investment you will have. I doubt anyone remembers anyone from that show except Al and Kelly.
CNW - I played tee ball with a glove that was a Mike Schmidt glove and then moved up to a glove that was either Dave Winfield or Don Mattingly, I cannot remember. The glove I used the most was just a plain old Mizuno that I still have - my son should be able to use it in about a year or so.
Jim - Enjoy the Odyssey. FYI - You can actually get all four tires off the ground at once. Don't ask me how I know.

Another Loooong day, don't understand how we accumulated so much!! A lot to move and dispose of. Gave a desk, table and chairs to a guy I just discovered who has a store around the corner. He is struggling so much he sent his family back to her parents, and is now living in the store, and has been doing so for six months. A hard worker just really struggling due to overhead costs, etc..
HOPEFULLY, we will finish the move portion tomorrow !

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 50s. Last night was one for the ages. We only had 9 players and they had 11. We got a 1-0 lead in the first half and they tied it up. In the second half, we got another goal to make 2-1, and we struggled to hang on, but they came back on us again. Nobody scored in the sudden death overtime, which sent it to Penalty Kicks. Our guys could not get it on-frame and we lost 3-2 on PKs. I played the entire 60 minutes. Not too many touches with the ball, but I was bodying people all night long. Old age and treachery kept me in the game longer than I should have been playing. I was tired. We played in 40+ degree weather under the lights, and I was bundled up with layers. Oddly I was not too cold. It was a whale of a game. I hope everyone has a good day.

We have been very busy at work. Pursuit of two major projects, one a huge bridge in Northern Ohio and the other a high voltage under ground line for The Buckeye University. The electrical line is needed to keep Wes's trains, phones and computers working perfectly. These types of project entail an interview, where we get dressed up and stand in front of the clients and tell them how we are going to solve their construction problems. For example, a detour cannot detour through another detour and the detour cannot store vehicles on the railroad tracks.

Fife - Sorry to hear about your loss. You've spoken about Henry some during our visits.We won our first softball game last night, where we earned it and not by forfeit. Lost the second game though. We have a good core, but we lost a couple players for the second game due to other commitments. Oh well, hopefully we do better next year.Have to go get The Q's automobile (said in voice similiar to Long Duck Dong in 16 Candles) tomorrow. Then have to take her to find her b-day gift from her father... this otta be fun!Still need to put the poly on her rocking chair... need to get that done this weekend so it has time to cure before next weekend when the family comes over to celebrate her 29th!

Got some errands to run and then fill greenhouse. Might have some scattered frost tonight. We are 20 degrees cooler than yesterday's record high. I think it is a Yankee raid into the South. Then off to the lake house until Sunday afternoon. Coming back to work the Church's "trunk-a-treat" and fall festival.
