Happy B-Day RockIslandJack and NavyJack

Nope the project still is not done. I still have to hang the rest of the crown moulding and then patch the nail holes and touchup the paint. Also have to finish painting the window trim. Since the wrist is getting better and stronger I may remove the trim from under the window sills and work on finishing the edges properly. Also have to decide if I am going to follow the inspector's wishes and install a moisture barrier under the siding and under the floor joists. What I was planning to do is put landscaping blocks between the ground and bottom of the siding, but not sure I can tackle that with the arm the way it is right now, so may just do the wrap and work on the blocks next year...

As for furniture, it has been ordered and we are waiting for it to arrive before purchasing any more. Not sure how much room will be left once what has been ordered is in the room... we'll see.

Fife - I will be there.

First order of the day.....Happy B-Day NAVYJACK, #63 Happy B-Day  It has come to my attention that you apparently did not read the memo on how to drop birthday present hints for the wifey as to what train item is on your current lust list.  Pat usually strings some more of his electrified wire across the threshhold to his outhouse bathroom and then pins a printout of his items to the wire for the wife to "accidentally" see.  Pat is subtle like that.   NJ, have a good one!!!!!!

I have been following the summer travel experiences of some on the Pot.  My Dad used to say that if one can't find domestic venues whose vistas are stunning and provide memories that will last a lifetime right here in the good old USA, one is brain dead.

Chief.....I keep checking my front porch for your FedX guaranteed next AM delivery of my tomotoes.  Nothing yet.  I wonder if the chipmunks got them.  Sigh

Charlie and DougM....Michigan, including the upper peninsula, remains one of those places near enough to drive yet relatively unspoiled by man.  Charlie....no fish stories?  And DougM.....after driving a zillion miles to and back from the shores of the Atlantic you state what a long drive it was up to Manistique!!!!  370 miles is long?  Thank you for the pictures of your adventures, especially like your inclusion of family in your pictures....."remember when" moments.  If you draw a straight line on a map over Lake Michigan, Northwest to Southeast between Manistique and Charlevoix, you pass right over Beaver Island and St. James Michigan where my Dad was born and raised.

JimmyT....along these same lines, it it were me, I'd join your folks for the Assateague Island trip.  The job hunt will still be there when you get back.  If you can scrounge up a laptop with wireless, you can stay connected while you are there and not miss anything.  You'll forget the job hunt by next year, but the trip memories with your folks will be with you for a lifetime.  My Dad used to say:  in life, we always come to regret the things we did not do and forget what we did do, even if the latter doesn't work out so well.  Guess that's enough advice from an old guy.  My 2 cents

OleTimer.....your avatar makes me laugh every time I see it.  1950s beatnik but without the bongos. Big Smile  Thanks for sending NavyJack that special lady to help him celebrate his b-day with a couple of martoonis.  Wink

DougDG.....re the chili dogs.  There is a brand of chili cheese flavored "dogs" from Johnsonville, available at the supermarkets (hot dod section) out here on the right coast.  If you can get them, try them out.  You won't be disappointed.  Dinner  BTW.....it sounds like you get to "play" with trains more than the rest of us combined.

Spanky.....not much from you on the knee front, so I hope you are good to go!

Banks.....you mentioned you are back from a "lazy" week of vacation with the wife.  Early in our torrid relationship (Shock) I took Mrs. Rock Island on a vacation where we had nothing to do and all day to do it.  At the beginning of the week she was beside herself with this approach.  By the end of the week she was begging for a couple extra days.  To me, "unwind and recharge the batteries" means stepping off the treadmill and just vegging, acting on a whim rather than rigidly planning out anything.

Fife......getting marooned with some of this bunch?  Make sure there are not enough life vests to go around.  Better yet, fill them with lead weights. Pirate

HudsonJohn.....congratulations on your son's NJSP boot camp.  How many of us started out pursuing the dream?  Too few I would venture to guess.  Two weeks vacation?  I envy you.  I hit 10 days a couple of times.

Dennis/Rich, and all parents.  I fondly remember those one-on-one times with the kids and will cherish them always.  It all comes full circle when they become adults.  My daughter and SIL love it when Mrs. Rock and I join them on vacation.  And my son actually comes over for dinner once a week when he's not actually living here.....again!  Banged Head

Dennis......you need to spend more of that one-on-one time in the train room with the kiddies watching the trains go round and round.

Lee.....my condolences on the loss of your cat.  Tough decision.  Had to do the same four times with our dogs and a cat of nearly 19 years.  It gets tougher, not easier, with each one.

8N......glad you waited on building that ramp.  Continued prayers.  The wifey probably won't give it a second thought in another week or so as she continues her recovery and is chomping at the bit to resume her "normal" activities.  Glad to hear things on the FIL's health front are working out.  When it rains it pours.

SubBob.....prayers for your continued recovery as well.  Those GB surgeries can be among the most painful post op.  From your posts it sounds like you have good friends to help you.

RaySP.....what a lot of folks don't realize is just how long those tropical birds can live!!!!

SJ......re the "idgits in DC."  I thought the word "borrow" meant there was an eventual repayment involved, not another loan and payment on the debt service twice!  Wink  Prayers that your better half's eye continues to progress.  From the sounds of things the surgery is ancient history and all with Granny is stellar.

Chuck.....we are all still sitting around waiting for you to post pics of your horrible lonliness working out all by yourself at the health club.  What happened to the pics?  Having trouble with your Adobe Photoshop software editing out the good stuff?  Whistling

Brent.....hopefully by this time the addition project has been completed and that Susan did not break the bank with new furniture purchases.  "If you build it they will fill it." Banged Head

Rich...... Angel continued prayers for this new adventure in your life.  With all of the back and forth to NJ during the past year you have been single-handedly keeping the gasoline inventories fresh and flowing.  The big oil companies thank you!  Smile,Wink, & Grin

DonB......what is this about your retirement?  What did I miss?  I thought SS retirement was pushed backuntil the age of 75 or until the national debt was paid down.  Whistling

Buckeye was on vacation?  Again, I missed it.

Joe/Demay......so you finally get an opportunity to catch up on some sleep and what do you do?  Get up for an early run.  Sleep deprivation is really screwing up your mind. Laugh  Hope Mom and the little one are thriving.

I haven't seen any news of a train derailment, so I suppose Laz is keeping his streak of "no pileups" intact.

Later, gang.

Jack.

Buckeye, I am taking the next 2 weeks off on vacation. That means a dip in their SS because of no OT.

Which means they will want me to get a second and third job to help pay for the SS.Sad

Especially since Shake and Bake is joining the ranks. Laugh

Sir J, you are right about the posting thingy.

Happy B-Day Happy B-Day Happy B-Day  NAVY JACK.

Getting back into the 90's today.  Moving slow this AM.  Got to take Lucy to the Vet.  Got life insurance things to do.  One is trying to be an AH.  Policy bought in 1934.  Claimed it might have been cashed in.  Told her, "NO".  Mom's notes and poilcy showed it was still good.  Got to fax policy [a massive thing with extra wide pages] to their archives dept.  Might just copy the NC Ins. Commissioner.  Probably go east tomorrow to Clerk of Court and etc.

Got National Night  Out with PD tonight and then visitation of a neighbor who died.  He is about my age or younger.  Heart problems.

Chat later.

PS: got my Lionel "package" too.  Will have to go to the train room I guess.  Haven't been up there to run trains in three weeks.

 Good Morning All!

Hope everyone has a great day.  Received the Legacy Version 1.3, update yesterday.  Installed it with no problems.  Havn't used it enough to determine any benefits yet.  Know it has a lot of improvements for the newer stuff.

Aloha all from a rainy Chicago. Class tonight so I'll be looking for fellow 'riders' via Yahoo Messenger on the train home. Almost done with my summer course. Rode a new CTA train yesterday - has NY-style inward facing seats. Lots of empty space in the center. Traditional CTA cars has forward facing seats in 2s or singles. At least it was clean. Happy birthday today to NavyJack Happy B-Day  AND Happy birthday to our Taxachusett's Jack. Happy B-Day

Good Morning everyone, and a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to NAVYJACK!  AC went out again last night along with some heavy rain.  Made for a warm and steamy night.  Could have slept in one of the spare rooms upstairs, but just like my bed better.  Hopefully Amana will have the parts ready and that will be taken care of.

Chief, that was a great video of the work train....is that part of the new LEGACY release?  May have to do a pre-order on that one.

Lee, was just thinking about you sir.  I think they are having a train show in West Palm at the Polish Club?  It may be this weekend.

Banks, fortunately, it is not my son with the addiction problem, it is the violin teacher's.  Still, it is a tough issue and we are trying to get some advice for her.  We are also using this as a teaching lesson for our kids.  It is better to learn from other's mistakes then have to learn from your own.

I am still on call till Monday, but hope to keep things on the light side.  Was quite busy with administrative items yesterday.  Have a couple of scheduled cases today.  I just have to go supervise.

I know that a number of our friends here have big concerns on their hearts/minds.  Please know that I do pray for each and ask for God to meet you at your need.

Good Morning from the Jersey Shore, 70, feels like 85, going to 86, 88% Humidity, Winds SSW, 10 to 20 mph.

I am going to Lowes and install the new sump pump w/battery back up. My water table varies over 6ft. I change out the pump every 5 years. I have had water in the basement only a couple of times and it was only a couple of inches. The float on the pump was the culprit and a power failure was another. I rotate the deep cycle battery with the boats and it is always fresh.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! NAVYJACK Happy B-Day

Dougdagrump, Maybe it is toxic waste from Jimmy Hoffa?? That is one good thing about Jersey, we have aour share of Whitecastles.

Waiting for the Dining Car. Mike sent it to SJ and Chuck. Must be in transit behind a slow freight up Horseshoe Curve.

Thoughts and Prayers for all in need.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 90s.  Happy belated birthday to NavyJack!  It was an odd evening.  Was looking forward to practice with "my" soccer girls, but they switched times to the point that I would be showing up when they would be leaving.  Watched the Hungarian F-1 race instead.  Busy day at work yesterday and even busier one today.  I had bran muffins on the dining car for breakfast before sending it on to "Points East".  New destinations and customers may require some double heading on the front end to make all the stops.  TBIL any time and I can drive.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Forgot to mention roaming the Escanaba yard on the way back. The Soo steamer under shed looked pretty good. Most of the old MILW stuff is gone or more likely repainted for Wisc. Ctrl. Saw a lonnnng train with a cool GTW MP15AC pushing at the end.  Lots of ore cars and hoppers strewn randomly about on sidings in the middle of nowhere further up in the UP. And saw the biggest dang gons ever - wood chip cars. I wonder if anyone has ever made them in O?

Doug sounds like a great time Thumbs Up

Evenin' All.

Happy B-Day, NavyJack !

Pat, We finally have nice ripe Jersey Tomatoes in the Garden. The reason why they taste so good is a secret ingredient. I think that it is toxic waste.

John, Toxic waste or Jimmy Hoffa ? Big Smile

Got my goodies packed and ready for tomorrow. Free Tuesday, should be very crowded again. Sigh Taking my MTH 4-6-0's, one passenger & one freight (lots of smoke Evil), and my Lionmaster Challenger with the woodside reefers.

Have been watching some coal dump cars on E-Bay for a possible halloween project and almost fainted when a L.I. car, K-Line by Lionel, went for $235. I know there hasn't been a lot of LI stuff done but that is just nuts. Shock

Time to fix some dinner, momma is at BUNCO tonite so chili dogs sound good tonite. Dinner Wish we had Whitecastles out here. Sad

Hello all,

Spent some time in the garden this evening. Trying to keep ahead of weeds. We really need some rain.

Probe, Not 100% sure but I believe it was there on Thursday last week when I was there.

Past my bedtime, off to bed.

Prayers for all who may need them.

Good Evening from the Jersey Shore, 71, Cloudy, was a beautiful day

We got our son off to his week at "Boot Camp". The Instructors did great breaking their chops. After they were marched of the Captain and a Sargeant explain to the nervous parents what was going on. I got some nice photos from the opening "ceremony", but as soon as I can figure how to post, I will post a few. I have 1 with an instructor in his face. This experience will help him decide for sure if he wants to be a NJ State Trooper.

After dropping him off, I did NOTHING, except relax and research my trip to Horseshoe Curve. I started feeling guilty because my son really wants to go. I decided to postpone it. This week I will replace the 7 year old sump pump and battery back up with a new improved unit that I saw at Lowes and work on my 26' Wahoo Center Console. The fall Albies and Stripers will be here soon along with the Jumbo Blues.

Fife, Great info on the Station Inn. It will be our choice. Thanks

Banks, Thank you also. The place with the mental block is Roadside America, in Shartlesville. We have been here many times. My wife likes the Kuntztown Fair.

Chuck, Thanks for sending the Dining Car. Rice Krispies was on the menu.

Dennis, My daughter and son both like to be with me when they were/are teens. I was at my daughters, 26/married, for dinner tonight and she remarked how she liked to hang with me as a teen, but felt funny with my wife until she was 18/19. My son, 17 wants to go everywhere with me. I am pretty certain that he will be a good fit with the NJSP. A few of my friends were Troopers. Retired now, 55 age max.

SJ, You are right about the "idjits" in DC. We are working 2nd and 3rd jobs to pay bills.

Doug, Great beach scene. I think that they all enjoyed themselves. I see that you did not miss the trains on the way home. 7th sense.

Chief, Relax, Fife may be the Skipper, but on a sail boat I am Gilligan.

Buckeye, Forget about the SS. We need 2 jobs to survive.

Pat, We finally have nice ripe Jersey Tomatoes in the Garden. The reason why they taste so good is a secret ingredient. I think that it is toxic waste.

Joe, Work, Good thing or Bad Thing??

Jack, Being asked to be her Pall Bearer is an Honor.

Ole Timer, How much did the second "girl" pay you?

Ray, Cockatiel, a guy at work has a couple of them and they drive me nuts whenever I am over his house. His wife and him love them. I always thought thought that he was nuts.

Lee, Good Luck with the refinance. They are tough to deal with now.

SJ, Lets head for the Banilla

Thoughts and Prayers for everyone in need.

John

Banks,

No problem.  I could live in that store.  Did you happen to notice if there still was a Flyer handcar in the glass case near the register?  My folks are going back to Assateague in a few weeks (not sure if I will go again this time), and I might have to give them some money and a list. I've tried calling, but the line is always busy.  Come to think of it, the lady that works there was on the phone the majority of both times I was in there...

Hello all,

Vacation was Great!!!!! Mrs and I were lazy all week. Picked up some vintage HO at Toy Town in Berlin MD, Thanks for the heads up Probe.

Chief, Condolences on the loss of your Mom

Jack, Condolences on the loss of your friend

Anjdevil, sorry to hear about the divorce. Will add your future to my prayers

Cheapclassics , Congratulations on a new grand daughter. Any trains yet?

8N, glad to hear Mrs and FIL seem to be on the mend. More prayers.

Subbob, Same for you.

Phish, Big Congas on 32 years. Mrs and I will celebrate 35 this fall.

A belated Happy Birthday to dbaker and navyjack.

Hudson.             Can’t recommend any thing on accommodations. You’ll want to see the Gallitzen Tunnels while in the area, just west of the Curve. There is also the Railroaders Memorial Museum in Altoona. It is geared more to the life of the people who worked for the railroad. You may want to check out the Portage Railroad in Cresson. It is on the National Register of Historic Places. They used to bring Canal Boats to Duncansville and put them on a railcar pulled by steam drive cables to get them over the mountain and back in the water. Altoona also has the AA affiliate of the Pirates if you’re into baseball. The East Broadtop Railroad is about an hour east. They still operate steam but I’m not sure of the schedule. Don’t forget to see????. I’m drawing a blank It’s in Shartlesburg Pa(north of Lancaster) I may think of more

Fife.     I stopped to wave on the 25th,One of Maryland’s finest thought I was having car trouble. He said I made a bigger traffic jamb. I said “No I’m looking for Fife.” He wasn’t happy, said he didn’t know you and made me move on. Seriously I did see a big boxy looking ship. Never saw one like it. Almost as high as it was long. Any idea what it was? RE a get together. Where are you near? I may try to hook up with you.

Dweimer. How goes it with the drug addicted son?

All of the greetings were addressed as --   old geezer, Oldest California Geezers, Bake n' Shake, Calfornia Dreamer Don, Old Codger, and even buddy, the most common being Don, or dbaker, the last three of course are very courteous and well placed

I called you buddy because you are a fellow left coaster.  There aren't that many of us out here to answer all the slings and arrows from the other side of the country.

NavyJack, Happy birthday tomorrow!

We are baby sitting my #1 son's bird this week.  He is a male cockateel and a pain in the butt if you don't let him out of the cage once in a while.  I've got him sitting on a dresser next to me while I'm on the pot and he is happy looking at himself in the mirror for now.  He seems to be shedding some feathers.  Maybe its time for that?  Don't know much about birds.

Looking forward to getting my Z4000 transformer back from MTH.  Should be here today.  Its already late.

Been too hot in garage to mess with trains much after 10:00AM.

Have a good week y'all

Ray

Almost forgot.....Happy B-Day Navyjack!!!!  36 is it?  Whistling

If you get a b-day present like something that runs on three rails, don't let the cat out of the bag and tell wifey you don't need any more train stuff.  Wink

No time to get caught up on the posts yet which are coming fast and furious.  Wakes and funerals take a lot out of me.  Lots of miles driven this weekend.  Regarding the funeral of our dear friend up in Maine Saturday, I was asked to be a pall bearer.  I was stunned but honored, so many more deserving than I.

All seems well with Bob, 8N's wife, and SJ's wife as well.  Rich's adventure continues.  The prayers must be working and, coming from this crew, it is my opinion that SOMEONE must be listening and answering, if only yo get rid of us!!!!  Wink

Jack.
