We had air in our car but my dad would never turn it on .... he hated it ... said it gave him a headache The thing is seems we did'nt need air conditioning in the house until the mid to late 60's .... years before it was cool and comfortable without it at night ... I don't know what happened to weather conditions but it really was then ..... cooler .

Morning all. Hope Mike C and SW are traveling their last "leg" home OK. Great to meet them. Hot and humid. Out to mow and mow. Later will meet pond specialist at pond for a review of things. Then go to Chamber Expo for evening thing.
Only way Mom can get better is to go see Jesus. She is in that bad of shape. Mind is going fast and so his her health. Not eating much at all. Loosing weight fast. Has to wear "pullups". Just sits in chair and stares. Wants to sleep a lot.
Just finished watching Trains and Locomotives DVR'd from RFD-TV. Was on the Ohio Central. Great vidoes of engines and interview of owner.

Today is a busy day.. I have several errands to run and the usual chores to do. Maybe, later, this afternoon, I will be able to take a nap. Bad thunderstorms last night night kept the whole house up, several times. No time for trains today.
Dining car is here with the usual for breakfast.

A busy but good day here in the Ol' Pueblo. Just packing up and then it's "wheels up" @ 0500. Off to clean out the basecamp container and then another week on the hill. A friend took a video of the 2 trains running today. Hopefully I'll have it later in the week to post.

Mostly cloudy and muggy 80's here today. Probably some more rain tonight.
I took the weekend away from the Pot and got 6 pages behind. So, from memory:
Charlie, SJ - great looking modular layout.
Glad to hear that chores (espically those involving ladders) were done without accident over the weekend.
Pat - I believe it was the Andrew's Sisters who sang 'Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree'. Didn't get 'Newtonized' while you were sitting under your apple tree did you?
Air conditioning - we didn't get an air conditioned car until we got a used 1968 Impala about 1970 or '71. Everything before that had the 4-70 system - all four windows open at 70mph. My parents did not install air conditioning in the house until the late 80's. Previous system was the fan in the window at the top of the stairs and open windows.
My Harry Potter expansion set came in at the LHS this week. Picked it up Saturday. The e-bay refugee #225 C&O Alco also arrived on Saturday. Runs rough as a cobb in reverse only. Looks like the e-unit is not all there and somebody hard wired it. No big deal, as the two position e-unit will not be used in this project. Good news it that it has two axle magnetraction. A good cleaning will smooth it out.
Swept and washed the front porch Saturday - in the rain. Ran the string trimmer on Sunday - in the rain. Watched the F1 race and NASCAR on Sunday. The F1 actually had some real racing, not just follow the leader. The infield at MIS looks like it has been improved since I visited there in the early 80's.

Jon.....I was glad to hear you were spared any water damage during the recent rains.
Roy.....that cab driver was probably from Taxachusetts. It is so discouraging up this way to see how poorly people drive. I was driving up to NH last Saturday morning at about 70 in the center lane and I could not see the headlights on the car behind me, that's how close he was tailgating. If I had to just tap the brakes for any reason he would have impaled himself on my rear bumper, or worse. Others don't know how to enter a highway.....they cut off the right hand lane traffic and then take 1/2 mile to get up to the speed limit. Add in some rain and the demolition derby starts. Houston in the summer and no a/c in the house must have toughened you up!
OleTimer....... we were kids and didn't know any better. I can remember nights when my father would put the window fans on exhaust on one side of the house and open the windows on the other side for a crossdraft. That worked quite well, right up until that point in the night when the city of Chicago mosquito abatement trucks would drive up and down the streets fogging with DDT.
RaySP, DougDG, and Don......game 6 of the NBA Finals is tomorrow night in LA. Celtics are staying in Beverly Hills. I don't see the Lakers going quietly into the night. What a classic rivalry.

I tried running the 350 today, but it is totally dead. Part of that was caused by the seller being one of those "just fold it in half without disconnecting the wires from the tender and shove it in a box" people.. Some previous owner also lubricated the reversing unit contacts, so that is another issue. It doesn't really matter though since the reversing unit will be eliminated during the chasis swap anyway.
Happy birthdays to the kiddos Sounds like Mike and the SW had a great visit with Chief My mother-in-law has one bedroom that has a beach/island theme with the bamboo blinds and etc. She has a nice painting of a parrot in there that she made as well - she's a great artist Jack - nice dog!
Chewy got into a stash of bubble gum today - she's done it before without lasting problems, but it won't be pretty tomorrow. Kids need to learn to put this stuff up where she can't get to it.
Off tomorrow - dropped the van off for a service and will take the truck in tomorrow. I'll wait for the truck, and then hopefully the van will be done and we can go get it. Char's doctor told her to get UV/Tinting on the front windows and windshield, so we will find out more about that tomorrow and hopefully get that done as well, although it sounds now as if we will have to do it another day? We'll see.
Tardis is ready and I think it's RT's turn to drive, so let's get going!

Long day today with trip to airport starting with me getting up at 4:30 am. Some idiot taxi driver dumped his taxi - plus hit another car - serious injuries apparently - on the freeway to the airport and it was closed except for 1-2 lanes. Almost missed my flight.

My parents first house in Houston did not have AC if one can imagine that. None of my schools had AC until after I graduated. We didn't know any better? All the old style schools here built with all windows down both sides of the building plus a long central hallway. Lot's of fans kept it reasonable. The biggest problem is one did not want Mom to use too much butter on the bread on your sandwich - it melted truning the bread into goo before you got to lunch.
PBS here running an entire evening of Great Scenic Railway Journeys with all NA steam action. Have learned about a bunch of steam RR operations I had no idea existed. The Tennessee Valley RR is impressive. Will have to go there this summer when we are up at the TN River for 4th July trip NE of Chattanooga. Big operation and big shop. I had seen the signes but was under the impression it was just a simple tourist trap train.
Chief - the wife and I are jealous of that 3 side open/screened porch you have at your lake house. That is the right way to build a porch for hot summer climates. Prayers for improvement of your Mom's condition.
Ray - wish I could offer more on your Z-4000 issue. The problem is the more complicated the electronics the higher the probability of a failure.

Greetings from the flooded Heartlands ... way behind here but life is still exceptionally good, no complaints. We really do need the rain to stop for several weeks, we had 4" this weekend, lost part of our driveway and we have water standing in our yard to the east but the good news is we have no water in the basement (train room) We will need to bale the lawn once it get's dry enough to mow, ugh.
We were blessed to have the grandkids here this weekend, what a treat. Updated the wireless connections today and now this laptop just flies anywhere in the house or outside, YES!

Good morning afternoon all. Had to straighten house a little and pick garden before the Yanks arrived. Planned on holding them for ransom. Then talked to the Sausey Winch and found out she was raised "Southern" in Ohio [grits and all]. Since that finding, I let them go as whe would not leave without him in tow. Had a great time meeting them. Great folks and wish they had more time to stay. Maybe on another visit to Wilmington, they can stay a few extra days and go to the lake house. Gave them some garden goodies and wished them well.
Busy as went to Mom's [Frankie drove]. Do not think she knew who we were. Did not talk. Just sat and stared.
Picked garden again as growing fast with heat and water. Almost had another T'storm that was not forecasted. Went south of us. Temps in the high 90's and humidity in the 90's. Due points in the high 70's.

Won a nice 3530 on bay of E today but got wondering did lionel do a remake of it as a post war serries car it doesn't show the any number other than 3530 on the pics supplied but looks awful good to be postwar but have seen other cars/boxes rarely thou looking this god befor so maybe it is acuall postwar. All I can find on lionels site is the christmas tree one and 2 for ringinling bros circus cars
Not much else going on today had a day off and started it off by oversleeping haven't slept that good I would say in a good 4 years. guess getting some off time my body is finally relaxing some.

At long last I have figured out how to post an avatar. That's our 20 month old Doberman Maximus, no relation to Brutus.
Worked several hours Saturday and Sunday helping a friend do a resume from scratch. He "lost" his original resume file, never reproduced it, and didn't keep up with what he has done in his most recent job of 8 years..... a position he lost when his company went belly up and liquidated. He was really down in the dumps when we started (scared, frozen, negative, defeated) but was on cloud nine by the time we finished.....including a cover letter. Then we submitted both to a company for a position he may have an inside track to. The cover letter matches his skills and abilities to the position requirements to a T. Had him send the stuff to an inside employee I know for hand delivery to the hiring manager. My friend didn't fully appreciate what good things he brings to an employer's table until he read it in black and white. I'll be working with him preparing for an interview so he doesn't feel he has to do this stuff alone and is prepared to confidently put his best foot forward. Time to do some appearance "adjustments" as well. I am not good at a lot of things but was glad I could help him.

Pat......frozen beer mugs, doesn't get any better than that. I start out with the beer in the fridge, cooled to 35 degrees, and then pull out the frosted mugs. Everyone loves beer, Jack style.

A Schwinn Corvette with the stainless fenders, the front book rack, white wall tires, in a metallic red. Ah, the liberation a bicycle provided back then, and a feeling of power and adventure.
OleTimer......remember the days when we had NO a/c in our homes? Only had those huge window fans about the size of an aircraft engine to move the air into/out of the house. I think it was 1962 before my folks had it in a car, a few years before we had the $ for a color television.
