Top O' the morni'n to Y'all!  Happy Birthday 8N!  Got up early to do my reading and prayers.  A little sip here and then I will be back to the grind.  My Grandparents on my mom's side were from Ireland.  Great grandfather was one of the original IRA members known as "Mad Dog O'Donovan".  Grandparents moved to London during the beginning of WWII where my mom was born, then they moved to Blackpool as my Grandfather was charged with getting shot down German planes and checking them out for innovations.  They all came over on the Queen Mary. in 1947.

Bit wiped out, but today should not be too bad.  I hope to get to the gym after work and get my energy back up.  Eating grits and an orange right now, so all is good.
When I got home last night, my Chinese New Year car was at the door from Chooch.  neat little car.  I try to include a number of things for both kids on the layout to make them feel as much a part of it as I can.  This one is for my daughter.

God Bless,
Dennis

Good monring all,

"....Free at last, thank God, free at last...."   Perhaps it is a stretch to quote MLK, but late yesterday I finally got the paperwork on my new job!!!  I am not quite sure which circle of Dante's Inferno I have been in the past year, but I have escaped.  The feeling of Rebirth does not put too fine a point on it.  There are days of sadness and mourning here on the 'pot, but today is one of celebration.  While there is a small monetary downside to this occasion (9%), it is worth ten times that in terms of stress reduction alone.  The old job was literally killing me.  I am not sure I could have survived another year of it, let alone the five or ten until I could think of retiring.  All of you who have been here thru the good times and bad times and the newcomers as well, this is one of those moments in life that you savor.  In terms of pure joy, this almost ranks up there with my first soccer goal.  It IS another beautiful sunny day in south east Indiana.  This has been a great week so far:  AJ's team runs third at Brazil, recruited two kids to the soccer team and now this event.

Happy birthday, 8N!  Happy St. Patrick's Day to all, including the non-Irish!  Watched "Lost" last night.  Did some more walking yesterday and did weights at YMCA.  Lucas brought his girlfriend home to stay with us the rest of the week.  I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast after the car rolled in from "Points East".  Major celebration on the Tardis tonight so get those beacons lit early!  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Wearing the GREEN today.  This is a Buckeye's day.

Off to meeting at Town Hall, disk gardens again, get haircut and then go to the gym.  All before going to Raleigh and meeting from 2 to 6 PM.  Cabbage, potatoes and corned beef brisket for dinner.  The St. Pat.'s meal.  Hey, we had frost in spots this AM.  Well, it is still March.  Later.

TO YOU GUYS ON ST. PATRICK'S DAY, ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO NEED EITHER A LIFT OR A SWIFT KICK IN THE PANTS.....

An Irish blessing

May the road rise to meet you,
may the wind be always at your back.
May the sunshine warm up on your face, the rains fall soft upon your fields.

And until we meet again, until we meet again,
may God, may God hold you in the palm of his hand.

May the sun make your days bright,
may the stars illuminate your nights.
May the flowers bloom along your path,
your house stand firm against the storm.

And until we meet again, until we meet again,
may God, may God hold you in the palm of his hand.

Good Mornin', Ya'll, From Soggy But Sunny Taxachusetts!

The sun came out this morning to remind me that NOTHING is more important than one's family and good friends.  Happy St. Patrick's Day to all you Irish guys out there and to the rest of you who wish you were.  Eat your hearts out, then wash it down with a shot of Jamesons and a Guinness.

We are still standing......the waters are receding.  Prayers for those who need them, especially those of us in the flood ravaged places.  Sounds like the California boys are having the opposite problem now.  It's not brushfire time again out on the left coast, is it?

8n.......Happy B-Day  You are a pretty lucid and articulate guy for someone who is older than dirt.  Happy birthday you old codger! Big Smile

MikeC......hearty and sincere congratulations on the new job opportunity!!!!!  Sounds like you are conflicted on whether to take it or not. Smile,Wink, & Grin  I hate exaggerated superlatives, and one can only do one's best and give 100%.  But too often the powers that be at work treat employees  like one is no more than an indentured slave, that one's personal life and family are irrelevant.  And too often they do have the upper hand and purposely hold one's financial security and livelihood like the ultimate ace in the hole in a high stakes poker game.  To me that is a threat to me and my family and where the line must be drawn.  To them I say "Get a life!  See ya!"  10% is a small price to pay for a piece of sanity and family time. IMHO.  SoapBox  Sorry if I have offended some, but it needed saying today to show respect to Mike for his bold move, to support his decision, and to congratulate him on a brighter future.

Dennis.....this work stuff seems to be interfering with train stuff and videography..  Can't these patients reschedule their life or death surgeries?  Guess not.  It's great to be needed.

Spanky.....rehab on your knee following the surgery is what you make it, nothing remotely close to childbirth or a kidney/gall stone.  I've had 3 full blown arthrotomies on one knee.  Works fine.  Go for it!

DougDG......didn't Lionel make a similar Marine Missile Launch enginer, blue?  I seem to recall one of my buddies had one, can't recall the number.  Wasn't a prodigious hauler but it sure could scoot.  Came out sometime around when Remco sold those giant motorized Bulldog tanks that also fired ordinance.  The tank and plastic army guys had a prominent spot on my layout when I was a kid and couldn't care less about scale.  Didn't see your yacht in the Chicago River green pic.

SJ.......the very last of my snow gave up the ghost yesterday.  We'll be getting our warm air from Canada, 68 by Friday.  Thanks for the reminder to winterize the snowblower and get to work on the lawn mower.

JohnB......grettings from across the pond.  As you know, my wife has distant relatives we keep in touch with from Great Baddow, Chelmsford Essex, and Braintree, all about 30-40 miles Northeast of London.  That area is steeped in history dating back to the Roman invasion and occupation around 60AD.  During WWII the Marconi (inventor of radio) factory and the Hoffman ball bearing plant were located around there.  German Luftwaffe tried to take the factories out, later used the V2 rocket.

OleTimer......my wife's distant cousin (read previous post) worked for the BBC, decided to take a one year trip around the world.  Did some live remote broadcasting over the phone right from my kitchen!!!!  Could not figure out some of what she was saying.  American English and proper Brit English......some different phrases and vocabulary in there.  Don't hog the "loo."  Thought she was talking about baseball and Gehrig.

Bob.....wherever did you find the room at work to set up that loop?  Thumbs Up  Thanks for the video.  2025 looking good! Thumbs UpThumbs Up  Where there is a will there is a way.

RT.....we may be related.  Ancestors from Ireland and Germany, more Irish.  The former initially settled in NYC and Northern Michigan and the latter in PA.

Laz......the thought of your pasty whites is turning my stomach.  It isn't noon yet here, but the circumstances of your post may dictate an early start on St. Patrick's day. Wink

NavyJack......small world, my grandparents on my Mom's side settled in Wisconsin too.  Way up North.  I remember the outhouses and attending bees all too well. Shock

Later, gang.

Jack

Happy birthday to 8NT and 88!  Happy Saint Patrick's Day too!

Mike - congrats man, that is good news!

Off today, but all my plans fell apart as my friend John got sick and is on antibiotics - since last night.  Can't hang out since I don't want to bring any bugs home with me.  Will just do a few odd jobs around the house and hang out with Char.  Need to go to Walmart and also get some new headlights for the truck as one has burned out.

Have a good ond and Stay Frosty Laz!

Jack, sanity is way over rated!  Yeah, it is good to be needed
Brent, Happy Birthday to you sir!  I hope you get something with flanged wheels and stay away from them power tools!
Mike, Congratulations on your pending job.  There is a whole lot to be said for Quality of Life.  While I was offered a lot more money to come to a relatively rural area (we are 3 hours from anything), the quality of life is much better here.  Where I had been had me working 90+ hours per week and making less money.  I wish you well, and perhaps the impact left when you leave will encourage your current employer to improve things for the next person.  Just be both honest and respectful when giving the exit interview.  Never know if you may need a reference in the future.
Ole Timer, you rascal...and you live anyway?  I have seen people pummelled for less.  By the way, my great grandfather was notorious for having killed a British officer in the 1916 Easter Rebellion.

It is currently raining here, but I feel ashamed to even mention it considering all the rain that the folks up north have faced.  It is just a steady soaking, not heavy, but prolonged.  Wife and daughter are home, so a little time with them and then some violin practice this afternoon.

Y'all have a blessed day.

Ole Timer, Having grown up being a Ky Hillbilly the music out of the hills had it's roots in the old Irish folk songs and music. Hence the old saying for it to be true country music you gotta have a fiddle in the band.

Just finished a late breakfast/early lunch, good ol' scrapple & eggs. Dinner

Think I like the group "Celtic Women" better than Riverdance, more music and much less dancing.

Worked this morning on the lited billboard, finally found some nice cardstock. Hopefully will have it done this evening.

Here is an Irish story on St. Pat's Day, especially for you Irish and you Catholics. A little long, but I think worth reading.

 Irish Alzheimer’s

Murphy showed up at Mass one Sunday and the priest almost fell down when he saw him.

He'd never been to church in his life.

After Mass, the priest caught up with him and said, "Murphy, I am so glad ya decided to come to Mass.

What made ya come?"

Murphy said, "I got to be honest with you Father, a while back, I misplaced me hat and I really, really love that hat.

I know that McGlynn had a hat just like mine and I knew he came to church every Sunday.

I also knew that he had to take off his hat during Mass and figured he would leave it in the back of church.

So, I was going to leave after Communion and steal McGlynn's hat."

The priest said, "Well, Murphy, I notice that ya didn't steal McGlynn's hat.

What changed your mind?"

Murphy replied, "Well, after I heard your sermon on the 10 Commandments, I decided that I didn't need to steal McGlynn's hat after all."

With a tear in his eye the priest gave Murphy a big smile and said; "After I talked about 'Thou Shalt Not Steal' ya decided you would rather do without your hat than burn in Hell?"

Murphy slowly shook his head. "No, Father, after ya talked about 'Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery' I remembered where I left me hat."

Happy St. Patricks Day to ye all.  I'm surrounded by Irish.  My dear wife is 100% Irish so that makes my kids half Irish.  I'm the only one in the family that is not Irish.  My folks came from England.  I think I could go for some ham and cabbage.  Like that better than corned beef.  Had my last package of instant grits with some fried eggs this morning after doctor appointment.  Doc says I needed a B-12 shot.  Have to go back in two months for another one.

Old Irish saying:  May ye be a long time in heaven before the devil knows you're gone.

PAT .... Fabulous irish joke !  I think I liked it alot more than my wife when I read it to her ... all she said was ... uh -uh - yea ...  but I laughed me behind off .

Dougdagrump .... I never saw Celtic Women live on stage ... had to watch the video ... I think after my son and I's actions at the live Riverdance on stage was a main reason she would'nt go to Celtic Women when it came here ... nothin like that long line of beautiful female dancers a dancin and hoppin up and down ... legs kickin way up high .... Oh fond memories .... with everything bouncin in real life !  Kisses The girls said " the more and louder the applause the higher we kick our legs up ... so the son and I along with most men obliged ... standing and acting like wild fools ... dancers loved it .... LOL . Don't think wives in the audience did though .... Sigh  ... but who cared .... and you would'nt believe the gmynastic type  back-flip type poses the female fiddle player did for us ... laying there playing with pantyhose only showing underneath !!!!!      WOW !!!

Good Afternoon,

I find it hard to beleive but the local Goodwill store in Lake Worth FL shut it's doors. South Florida economy is really in sad shape, even Goodwill is leaving! Also driver's license offices closing as well.

Trying to install a circuit for non flickering lights in one of my passenger trains. Will see how it works.

Good evening.  Finished up the kitchen and placed most of the plants back in place and some of the furniture.  A few odds and ends to put back and that project can be scratched off the list.  We did violin lessons and all went well. Daughter is playing for her pre-school class tomorrow.  I think she will be playing 4 or 5 songs.  Wife will most likely go so she can watch over violin so it is not damaged.

Had dinner at Cracker Barrel tonight.  They have a great steak salad...yum!  Now it is time for bed as have a few big cases early on in the morning.  Once those are done, I can come home and work on the layout.  Big box from The Train-Station arrived today.  I picked up a coaling station and the cable for hooking up the Legacy to the KWs and TPC400.

Ole Timer, if you ever want to see a fantastic string band, the Annie Moses Band is a group of kids, all from the same family who are all julliard trained musicians.  I have seen them a few times and they are high energy with skills that will knock your socks off.  Don't expect the flashing and dancing...they are a Christian group.

God Bless,
Dennis

50 ish and still cloudy.  A little orange tinge to the clouds tonight off to the west.  Maybe some sun tomorrow?

Thanks for the birthday greetings, guys.  Either they are a day early or I've lost a day and it is Thursday instead of Wednesday -  enough going on at work that that could have happened.

DDG - check your e-mail.

All for now.  Got to try to get the new moedm and the wireless router on speaking terms.

Nice day, though I didn't do very much.  Shopped at Walmart and an auto parts store, changed a light bulb on the truck and have a spare now.  I thought about changing the other one now, but honestly I can't reach it!  I hope it doesn't burn out, I'll have to move stuff to get at it or something - maybe have my daughter reach in and get it out for me?  How silly!

Watching a neat show on PBS with lots of Irish music - love the Clancy Bros Thumbs Up

Tardis is ready and the beer is GREEN, so get over it will ya!?  Let's go, boy-o's!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
