HI GUYZ,

Absolutly beauty of a day yesterday, at 72 degrees.  Spent all day from 9-4 in class for my final class I had to take.  Then wife and I walked outside on trail for 45 minutes then went out for dinner.  Came home took dog for another mile walk then watched THE PACIFIC on HBO.  WOW, I thought Band of Brothers was good this is something else.  TOM HANKS and STEVE SPIELBURG, did another great job.

FIFE, yes I knows where that is in Steelton.  You coulda went to BARRYs afterwards is only 15 minutes away.

Stay frosty,

Morning.  Off to Sunday School in a few.  Buddy that teaches Carry Conceal is coming ot the "range" with trachoe.  Going to cut down a hill so we can get 200 yds out of the newly constructed rifle range.  Suppose to meet me after SS.  Guess all you Yanks would love to have him come and clean snow out of your drives. Laugh  When I hear the word snow and Ioway together, I say a "thank you" prayer. Evil  On the flag.  Thanks guys for the info.  I got smart [for a change] and "Googled" it.  You are right about burning.  Suppose to be done "cermoniously".  Will give it to my Eagle Scouts to handle.  BTW: if flown at night, still suppose to be "lighted" [I think the word "spotlighted" was removed].  Mine at the lake house flies 24/7 but it is within 30 feet of a big area light.  It is lit from dush to dawn.  Have a great week.

Mornin' boys.  Mornin' English.  Mild and 52 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  In a little bit, will be headed to the marina to paint my sailboat's bottom.  Gotta get back at home by 2, then take wifey to the gallery to pick up "Thomas".

Spent yesterday in the Commonwealth, and hour at HARRIS tower (cool), then some time at ENOLA and ROCKVILLE.  The old fishing center has been nicely converted to a B&B for trainfans.  Ugly ducks there.  NS was pretty quiet, until after AMTRAK headed west, then the flood gates opened.  Dinner at DUKES. Dinner

Laz - The show was at the Steelworkers hall off 44B.  Well attended, but absolutley nothing there I wanted.  Tom picked up a 3-pack of TTX flats for 12 bucks (MTH,without boxes).

GN Mnt Goat - Where ya been?  How's the layout comin' along?

Roy goes to VEGAS for a week Blindfold, then comes home with some type of infection...what are the odds on that...? Dunce

Morning all.  Supposed to have "Dinner on the Grounds" today after church.  It is where the whole congregation goes to the sports park for a big picnic and prayer service.  Unfortunately, it is raining and supposed to do so for the remainder of the day.

Chief, if I recall correctly, aren't you supposed to remove the stars before burning?  I am not exactly sure.  Of course, I also remember that we were not supposed to let the sun go down on the flag.  If it was up at night, it had to be lighted....they stopped that in the Carter years.

Got front door sanded and stained and back up.  Came out well.  With all this rain, I guess we will see if the job was good and stain completely dried before rain...or else the door will stick to the weather stripping.  After I did the door, son wanted to play with his RC Humvee that we had given him a few years ago.  Thing is really neat.  Fast and will go over most anything.  Also has a missile that it shoots when you press a button on the remote.  I guess it is about 3 feet long and can do some damage.  I had already broken one of the brides planters with it and dented the garage doorBlush  Perhaps it is best that I leave the driving to the kids.

Hope each of you finds your day full of God's Blessings.
Dennis

Chief,

Proper disposal of the flag is to build a fire and carefully lay the flag (unfurled) onto the fire, taking care to not have burning fabric take off in the heat. Cut the grommets out (if so equipped) and dispose of them appropriately. In my Scout troop we give the grommets to the scouts who make loops with them to hang on walking sticks, etc.

You can also give the flag to a local Scout troop who will take care of the flag for you.

Regards, Roy

OH, big question.  What are you suppose to do with a "weather worn" American flag?  The one at the lake house got "tattered".  Replaced it.  Brought the old one home.  Trying to remember from my Boy Scout days.

Smilehello guys hope that you are all doing well.  rt....i do not know if you lost a loved one.  if you did please accept my sincere condolences.  i hope it is missinformation and you did not.  we have six inches of snow on our deck.  plumber put in a new faucet on our laundry tub, had to solder it on, put all new pipes under the kitchen sink, and rodded out bathroom.  had to have it done, and luckily he did not charge me much.  had a partner, and paid for almost 100 in parts, but cost me 230 total for 2.5 hours skilled work by two journeyman plumbers.  i admire people who are trying to make money in spite of the bad economy.  these are union guys who would rather make less than none at all.  and not to collect unemployment. sons have been layed off since august, concrete finishers journeymen.  times have changed.  when i got off active duty, could not claim unemployment for over three months and then could only draw it for 13 weeks.  i wish i would have had a chance to have had the time off when i could walk, as i could have really enjoyed trains.  oh well it could always be worse.  navyjack

Good night all.  Leave town for a little over 24 hours and you have a lot of posts to read.  Prayers for all those who posted their needs on the forum.  Hudson, glad to hear you are OK [just worked "to death"].

Did I read the words snow and snow???  I mowed grass at the lake house today.  Need to mow here.  Flowers blooming and trees budding and blooming.  Snow!!!!  Just what the REBS ordered for the Yanks. Evil  Bet you want me to come and shoot your groundhog.

Bed time for me.  Chat later.

PS: welcome MTN. Goat.

Welcome Mountain Goat!

Roy - so glad everyone was okay!  Prayers man.

RT & SJ - sorry for your losses.

Worked 5 OT this morning, then took a nap after lunch, played a videogame, and did the grocery shopping for the week.  Need to do laundry tomorrow and that's probably it - we'll see how much real snow we get here by the giant heat sink (river).

Prayers for us all and for our friends and loved ones too.

TARDIS is ready and I won't forget you RT - I think it's Kurt's turn to drive, but we will have to use the stealth mode.  Mike, you can go over some plans I have been formulating with us in the drawing room Laugh

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Evening all,

Spent the past week sick with a really ugly cold or some sort of virus. Spent the week before in Las Vegas at a trade show which is probably where I picked up the cold. Half my coworkers have been sick over the past two weeks.

Get to stay home for a few weeks and then off to York for the train show and then to San Diego the following week for w**k.

Daughter had a wreck while I was in Vegas. A young man pulled in front of her from a parking lot. She said he started to pull out then stopped when he saw her, then he suddenly pulled out again trying to beat her. No way she could stop. She T-Boned him at about 35 mph in the drivers door. She was in the far left lane of a 3 lane wide road (actually 6 lane divided, her side was 3 lanes). Destroyed both cars. No one hurt amazingly. So I can speak highly of our former 2009 Chevy Mailbu and On-Star. On-Star had EMTs, fire and police there in a couple of minutes before she got out of the car. Now dealing with insurance companies. Not going too badly all things considered.

First day of spring - it is snowing here, albeit lightly. Cars outside have a dusting on them. Good news is it is supposed to be 70 by Tuesday.

SJ and RT - sorry for your losses. Tough when the family gets old.

Hope all are well.

Regards, Roy

Sunny and low 60's yesterday, snowing (7" and still falling) and low 30's today. Confused

Clean the snow cannon and put it away, already!

Bought a TrainSounds PE tender at the LHS today.  The owner said that there were only a few left at the distributor, so if any of you are considering buying a new one, don't wait too long.  He also said that Lionel is taking back orders for the Harry Potter expansion set.  Must be that they are going to make another run of them.

About all for now.

Good afternoon all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 60s.  Worked on the mowers this morning to start getting them ready for summer.  Wife and daughters are at baby shower for relative today and Lucas is out with his best friend and their girl friends so I have a quiet afternoon.  I had bacon and biscuits on the dining car as it rolled in from "Points East".  TBIL anytime.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good almost afternoon everyone.  Has been a good weekend.  I was able to burn a lot of debris yesterday before going to our friend's house.  Had  a great meal and plenty of fun talk.  Son slept over at their house and we will get him soon.  Have to take the front door down and sand, stain, and polyurethane it.  Also, plan to change oil on tractor and get to cutting lawn.  Looks beautiful out there and it will be too good a day to be inside.

Sir James, sorry for your loss.  Has been all too common for our group here losing family.  May the peace of God comfort you and your family in this time of sorrow.
God Bless,
Dennis

Aloha indeed. Snowing hard.  Maybe an inch or so. Ugh. March. But it should vanish next week I'll bet. Meanwhile, it's a good day to spend indoors.

I woke out of a sound sleep this am remembering a video game the youngest got out of the library I don't know how many days ago - thank you subconsciousness. That'll cost me. Wink

My condolences to you, Sir J. And prayers for the relatives and friends recovering from illnesses.

Morning all from beautiful Southern Ohio

Well we picked up the dog I wrote of earlier.  The kids are really enjoying the dog and the dog is eating up all the attention.  It slept through the night in it's cage in the utiity room which is the routine we had for or other dog that died last year.  It is a two year old minature schnauser.  It seems to be well behaved.  When some company showed upa last night she we still good.

Several jobs today, relamping outside floods at church, such a pain.  Tow of the lamps I am going to replace the existing floods with a new LED type.  They are suppose to last 12 years!  That would be great.  They are expensive though, $68 each.  When you consider what you have to go through to change it will be worth it if they last even 10 years!

I have some more inventory pictures for SPF, and hope to get the test track cleared off so at least I can have something to run the trains on and maybe some yard work.

Check back later, may God bless

Jim

I'M BACK, at least for tonight. That storm last week really hit us hard. We had over 500,000 customers without power. That is 500,000 accounts not people. Last count that I heard was under 3,000. We have been working around the clock. I was released (sounds like prison) earlier this evening to report back at 7:00am. In the Company's 107yr history, this was the worst damage that we ever incured. We refer to it as the hurricane without a name.

Chief: Thank you for your concern. We had some damage in Ocean County, where I live, but the Northern Counties were hit very hard.

Spanky: Wayne was hit hard with flooding, fallen trees, poles and wires, plus other wind damage. I would call the Gas Co to see if they are coming out. They are busy with getting customers back in service after the building inspectors give the OK. I hope that everything is ok.

My deepest sympathy to all that have list lived ones. Thoughts and prayers to all in need.

John

First off, prayers for all in need including my brother-in-law who is just now home after a week in hospital and 3 in nursing home; and for wife of a former colleague who is in a medically based coma after a brain related pressure incident.

It has taken me three days to get from page 5 to page 39 in catching up on the coffee pot. I don't know where the time went. Had issues with down internet modem-rouer issues last weekend which slowed things down as well.

I hope all on the pot with colds have recovered--- but in case you haven't--try a remedy my Dad mentioned on many occasions. Go to bed, one with posts by the pillows, a top hat, and a fifth of whiskey. Hat on head, swig of whiskey, hat to post, a swig of whiskey, hat back on head, another swig, hat to other post, another swig; repeat until you try to put the bottle on your head and try to drink from the hat. It may not cure the cold but you won't know about the cold or care about it or anything else for that matter!!!

Beautiful day in South Georgia today, got some yard work done. Lots more to do. Two more weeks of teaching 4 classes of Elementary Staistics and then SPRING BREAK!!

Trains later maybe. Have some things on order from TW design. When they come in I will post pictures of before, during, and after installation.

Sunny and 60's today.  Winter storm advisory for the weekend - 6" to 8" of snow forcast???

Thought you guys put that snow cannon away for the season. Grumpy

Anjdevil, SJ - condolances for your lost ones.

97Probe - I think my 3472 car is one of the later ones.  It is eggshell in color and has plastic doors and magnetic couplers.  I'd guess 1950 to 1953.  Ths innards weren't very dirty.  Basically a wipedown, then a couple drops of oil here and there.  Looks to me like the mechanical action that pushes the can sweep arm back to let the next can drop is more of an impact action than a cam action.  As far as I can tell from pictures, all of the moving parts are in the right places.  The first step is to get new wires onto the solonoid, then power it up on the bench so I can watch it work.

Bob - LBT  That means 'large baseline telescope'?  I think I remember an article somewhere talking about combining images from two telescopes some distance apart to improve resolution, or something like that - makes the image appear as if it was from one, much larger telescope?

Feedback from the potential customer visit was that they were pleasantly suprised and impressed that our plant was much better than they expected.  Now a month long wait while they decide where they want to place the business.

All for now.
