Good Evening

Prayers for Doug M. and Chucks families.

Or little family sure seems to get more than a fair share of problems. But we feel the pain and thats what makes this site so great.

Well stsyed in and addressed some christmas cards today, each year I am making the list shorter. And sadly as I look back many have done that for me. Got some nice trains to play with and a few train nuts to help me so all is well. Banilla is ready on this cold 19 degree nite so Brutus when you are ready, lite the fuse and fire up the thingy....S.J.

Chief just called me a few minutes ago while on his way to the lake and asked me to relay to everyone that Chuck was talking and asking for certain items.  That seems like a good thing but yet we all know that his condition is tenuous and fragile, please keep him and his family in your prayers.

Good evening.  Oh what a day!  Doug, sorry to hear of your Dad's passing.  Having just buried Mom, I know it will take some time as everything seems surreal.  So often I just want to pick up the phone and call as we often spoke...but can't anymore.  Prayers for you and the whole family.
Prayers have been said for Chuck and his wife.  I know we will find out more tomorrow after the tests are back.  Usually, it takes a battery of tests 9 hours to complete for the initial work up.  They will do more tests tomorrow and take it from there.

Spoke with Chief tonight while I was in between cases.  Will try to keep him up to date with any developments.  He doesn't sound so great either.  Our local politician needs to take better care of himself before he ends up in a hospital too.

The last two days I have been without a camera and really could have used one.  The local rail yard has had flat cars loaded with USMC humvees as far as the eye can see.  Quite an impressive site.  They had not had military shipments for a few months, but it seems they are ramping up for more.  Some really impressive loads are the Tanks, etc.  I will see if I can snap some photos tomorrow, but the bride will be taking the nice camera to our daughter's Christmas program.

Hope not to get called back in tonight.  Been a long day and we have some pretty big cases coming up.  I need to get some sleep for.  Hope everyone has a great night and will continue to keep Chuck, Paula and some others in my prayers.

God Bless,
Dennis

Prayers Doug - you already know my thoughts and prayers on this.

Prayers too for our great friend Chuck and for Paula.  My Dad just did the same thing - didn't tell anyone until he was on the point of dying with CHF and pneumonia both, but he is doing really well now, just a couple months later.

Prayers for RT as well, hope you heal up fast good buddy!

Brent - GEEZ!  Glad your leg is healing up!

Dennis - missed the post somewhere, but good job!

8nT - hope your wife is continuing to improve every day too!

Prayers for all of us and our families!

Good news continues here - my wife's sister might be able to be examined for donor approval on the Monday after New Years.  They have to verify she is physically fit to be the donor, but she's in good shape Thumbs Up

Wife is watching Ellen - big giveaway shows!  She gives stuff away every single show really, which is cool; but, most of her guests are of no interest to me.

Nice talks with Sir James, Doug and Jeffrey tonight.  Tardis is ready - let's hit the Hi Road!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Sunny and low 40's here today.

Prayers for Doug and his family and Chuck and his family.

Picked mom's van up from the dealer today after the oil change and intaks gasket replacement.  They had a Chrysler Town & Country mini van and a Challanger in the showroom.  Any guesses as to which one I went to look at and which one my wife went to look at?  The Challanger was properly optioned SRT package, three pedals and a big Hemi.

Got a set of new tires lined up to be installed on it on Saturday.  That gets it ready for the trip to Michigan over the holidays.

Noticing that the west bound freight trains through town are a little different lately.  Fewer empty coal trains and more mixed boxcar and containers.  I even saw an empty unit train of auto carriers that had a pusher locomotive on the end.  One of the auto carriers caught my eye because it had Grand Trunk markings.

I'm still trying to get the roof off of my Polar Express anouncement coach.  The window latches on the end away from the conductor do not seem to push in to release.  It feels like they are being blocked by something inside.  Any ideas?

Later all.

Wow, just caught up after getting back to work and lots of news.

Doug M. - sorry to hear about your dad. Thoughts and prayers w/ you and the family.

Chuck - prayers for him as well!

Brent - glad to hear your leg is doing better

anj - did you get over your food poisining finally?

Brutus - Great News!!!

Chief & Dennis - take care of those colds, and Dennis kudos on your work last week.

I'm wearing the boot/brace for a few more days. Doc wanted me to wear it another week after they took the stitches out. Trying not to push it as I don't want to have to wear this thing any longer than I have too. Still battling some of the other issues, but I guess I'm getting there.

Hope things go better for everyone but at least this group sticks together.

Morning all.  Got morning reading and prayer done, but will continue throughout the day.  Doug, praying that you get through the eulogy OK.  I am sure it will be difficult.  Bob, if indeed you are diabetic (I recall that it was questioned), know that wound healing can be a big issue.  Becomes more so as you get older.  Vasculature is compromised and takes awhile for closure to take place.

Thanks for the kind words guys.  The patient is doing very well and should be going home soon.  Got lots of praise from other folks involved, but in the end, it is a team effort.  I am just happy for the good outcome.

I have some honey dos to take care of this morning.  Going to clean up the mounts on the walls and pick up some of the projects I have been working on.  Perhaps get a little layout work done before going in.  SWMBO is stressed as her family is coming in this weekend to celebrate Christmas with us.  Had everything taken care of saved a few odds and ends that can't be done till close to arrival of guests.  Then, when she came home yesterday, the dog had gone under the tree and tore into a few of the presents.  The actual gifts are OK, but boxes are shredded.  With some skillful repackaging, perhaps they can still be presentable.

Hope to hear some good news on Chuck later today.  I expect he will have a few tests this morning and should here this afternoon how he is.  I'll try calling Paula again later.

God Bless,
Dennis

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 40s.  Reading the posts the past couple of days.......too much pain.....too much suffering.  Tears streaming down cheeks as I write.  Chief and Dennis, please take care of yourselves.  Brent, glad to hear you are doing better.  Chuck, prayers going out in boxcar loads along with the breakfast from "Points West".  Brutus, so glad to hear the news about the wife.  We need some good news around here.  I know there are others here who are hurting, but I cannot remember the names or the posts.  My thoughts are with all of us now.  We have been thru some tough times here before, but I can never remember so much bad happening all at the same time.  Maybe that is why I like soccer so much.  During the time I am involved with that, my whole universe shrinks down to that little round ball and the rest of the world goes away.  The usual daily escapades I recount here just seem very, very insignificant right now.  Major thoughts and prayers heading out for everybody.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Aloha from a grey and cold Crystal Lake. Continued prayers for Chuck. Thanks for your warm wishes. They're appreciated more than you can know. Got a flight for the bride and me into and out of NYC without having to sacrifice limbs, and someone to watch the kiddos. I'll be picking up our oldest at Chicago Union Station tomorrow morn - I'll bring the latest CTT as Amtrak should be late. I noticed toys are on sale at Menards - a sort of Dutch auction discounts - bigger each day until Christmas. These will include their remaining Lionel.

CHUCK ....... Get better real soon !!!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL !!!!

Santa and The Train Set

While working in a store as Santa Claus lots of boys asked for an electric train set. "If you get your train," he would tell each one, "you know your dad is going to want to play with it too.  Is that okay?"

The usual answer was a quick yes, but after I asked one boy this question, he became very quiet.  Trying to move the conversation along, he was asked what else he would like Santa to bring him.

He promptly replied, "Another train."

Dad said, 'What a marvellous train set. I'll buy it.'

The girl behind the counter looked pleased and murmured, 'Great, I'm sure your son will really love it.'

Dad replied with a glint in his eye, 'Maybe you're right. In that case I'll take two.'

Well, the wife who is helping somewhat, is not in PANIC mode yet. I am more-so but not showing it. Will still make the local TTOS show after Mass and breakfast Sunday.

Good evening everyone.  Was not too bad today.  Got home a little after 6pm which is great compared to the rest of the week.  Been reading a book that I just picked up on the Central of Georgia Railway.  great book so far.  Regarding the dog, in the end, it was our fault.  He has a thing called a "Kong" which is a hard rubber chew toy.  When we were out of town recently, the dog sitter had left it outside and he had no other toy and so chose the presents.

Well, wife is in the process of cooking a red velvet cake for the visitors this weekend.  We are going to pre cook anything that will allow for it so we have as little to do on Saturday as possible.  Think my bride wants me to do it  while I am at home in case I get called in and she is left here with kids and guests on her own.

Tomorrow is a big day for cases as we have three hearts and plenty of smaller cases to keep me busy and out of trouble.  Hope it is a relatively calm weekend.  Supposed to rain again.  Also has dropped down to the 40s so we have a fire in the fireplace.

Laz, when the delivery guy was dropping off the pizzas tonight, he had big eyes and told me he spooked a huge buck out of the front yard...I told him they are all around here.  Just hope he doesn't come back to shoot one.

Will lift up Chuck and Doug and families in prayers tonight.
God Bless,
Dennis

Another quiet night here at the 'scope. Got up early to take care of some of the backed up maintenance projects. Our infamous windbird is still causing us grief. I think it's time to scrap all the old design and start over. This is the windbird, these are the fiber optics cables, how would be go about connecting them now? Forget what some idiot did 15 years ago.

Dennis - my doc calls me pre-diabetic giving the numbers I run most of the time. Occasionally I can get some higher numbers if I am adding new foods to the diet, but things seem to have been fairly well regulated by diet alone. But the caution on the healing is well founded. It's not so much the years, it's the mileage.

Hope to finish wiring the 258 tonight. I forgot to put the Brasso in the tool kits, so it wont get polished up just yet. Finally bought an organizer for the train parts as I'm starting to have as many misc train parts as I do for old radios and electronics.

OK, now my dog ate Christmas story. My buddy Kevin came back from the family celebration in Georgia. Guess they bought a huge honey baked ham, like 15 or 20 pounds and only ate a small part of it. They asked Kevin if he wanted to take it with him, so they froze it and packed it w/ his gifts and figured it would survive the flight of less than a day. Kevin forgot about it in the box when he got back to Arizona. After a few days he was skeptical about whether it was good. Didn't want to put it in the trash in the kitchen as he thought it would smell and set it on the counter to put in the dumpster in the alley. We were working on one of my old trucks (imagine that) and went out to get some parts. Came back to find some aluminum foil on the floor, and that's it. Kevin realized 15 pounds or so of questionable ham had gone missing. Searched the yard and found nothing except for one large dog lying on her side w/ a satisfied look on her face.  Spent the next two days kidding the dog as it wallowed in stupor, calling it ham-bone or haming it up....guess she couldn't take it anymore because she presented it to us w/ a good 5 pounds of meat on the bone. I figured she hid it under my '56 International, figuring, hey, this thing rarely moves...

Hope Chuck is doing better.

Sunny and 40's here today.  Actually a pretty nice day.

Got the top off of my P.E. announcement coach last night - just like the instructions said.  I just had to apply a little more force than I was initially willing to do.  The wiring checks out OK, the conductor/lantern checks open.

Stopped by the LHS on the way home from work to get another conductor ordered.  Sitting on the counter to greet me were the two expansion cars for my Aerotrain.  I was pleasently suprised to see that the cars are die cast -have nice detail and a good heft.  The rest of the train is supposed to arrive by UPS tomorrow Big Smile.

Helping my wife get ready for her Friday reading time Christmas part tomorrow.  Pre-loading the heavier stuff into the car so she does not have to tomorrow morning.  Also going to put the Christmas tree up tonight.  Yes, it will have a train running around it.

Just three more days to work this year.  It is kind of entertaining how everybody at work seems to be going into 'low visibility' mode as the holidays get closer.

The dies I was working on in Spain in October finally caught up to me.  They were delivered yesterday.  Too bad most of the Die Techs have gone on vacation. We are barely supporting production and don't have time to spart to unpack and clean cosmolene off of two sets of dies.  Sounds like a project for next year.

Prayers for those who are healing and traveling.

All for now.

Evening all,

Busy day at work, busy evening and now just resting before bed.  Watching a AF tower on ebay and we’ll see if things go crazy on it.  They are predicting snow this weekend.  At least I’ll be staying in town this weekend!

Chuck – Hope you are feeling better buddy!  I am keeping you in mind during my morning and evening prayers.

Doug – Travel safe, and my prayers are with you, your family and your Dad.

Good night and may God bless

Jim
