Evenin' Fellas.Post surgery follow-up is tomorrow morning so I should have all the gorey details... number of stitches... can I get an Over/Under on this one? I've got 70 as my target. Been laying around doing nothing today... driving me nuts. FiL came over to monitor me, we watched Bedtime Stories and Happy Gilmore then SusieQ came home, her boss sent her home. Then my Mom came down from Pittsburgh... lots of people to take care of me... Jack - I have been put on the 'idiot' list. She asked me to get rid of the circular saw.Fife - No peg legs for me thank you!
Congas to Charlie & the Family!!!
for Jim Phish & his daughter - sorry I missed the post before....
Jack - ah, yeah, Mom's not gonna be riding any time soon.... Dad's doing yeomans work keeping up with her trying help her around the abode. She's actually running the polls in NJ this day. A little injury don't stop Mom.

Good Afternoon, Ya'll,
JimSP......continued prayers for your eldest and for your family. I think I will take a moment to give thanks for the current lull in my own life with my children and grandchildren.
Brutus......your good news on your wife was a long time in coming. Frustration city. And prayers that the road gets smoother from here. BTW, Jim, when my staircase tilts like that I know it is time to either drink more beer or less.
Rich...... does that cast mean your Mom won't be borrowing your Harley for a while?
Today is baby day for Charlie. Prayers that Mom and the newest addition are doing well.
DougM.......did your treadmill have a cupholder? And did you put it to good use?
LAZ.......you did it. I sprayed coffee all over my monitor with your advice to Brutus on the dangers of overtightening nuts.
One of you guys was complaining that you had too few Trick or Treaters and consequently you had 3 bowls of candy left over. If you looked at the "glass as half full", you would have concluded that it was a windfall and you would be well stocked for the next month or so. You did buy the good stuff, right? I did.
Brent, oh Brent......now you've done it. This is a major setback to Susan's "honey do" list. Did she place you on IR, the 15 day DL, or are you listed as day-to-day? My guess is that she will have you back on the field in short order, exhorting you on with something like "Real men play through their injuries." BTW, if it makes you feel any better, the carpenter that built my deck took off two fingers with one of those saws, and he was a professional. My wife uses a Dremmel tool to grind the dog's nails rather than clip them. I am forever telling her to put on safety glasses, to tie her hair back, or to stuff all of her hair under a baseball cap. That sucker at the rpm it turns would tear out both hair and scalp in a flash.
To all......I loved all the traffic mitigation pictures and diagrams. At the end of the day you simply can't engineer driver stupidity out of the equation. All I see with all of those left turn concepts are a bunch of t-bone accidents waiting to happen, especially with the diagonal lefts where the travel distance and time crossing over in front of oncoming traffic is extended. MA. drivers are particularly skilled at finding ways to enter our highways and divided roads going the wrong way. Then they drive for miles clueless that there is anything amiss. One might attribute the number of instances to DUI, but the fact is that most of the drivers who do this are clean. Cell phones and texting? Sleep deprivation? You be the judge.
IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.
dbaker48 Buckeye Riveter Don.....For someone living in California, you need to see the latest and greatest intersection heading your way. http://www.abmb.com/cfi-testdrive.html Needless to say, they just built one of these things is in the SOUTH. Us Northerners thought this intersection up to control the population in the South. We figure that this will put an end to Billy Bob getting in his truck and driving over to see Peggy Sue. Buckeye, One of the simpler interchanges, two freeways with car pool lanes. The second roadway from the lower left, is elevated for a distance of 2 miles.

I think there is one worse than that near the Dallas/FT. Worth airport as you head to Ft. Worth. You know those Texicans. Always want the biggest.
Don
dbaker48 Buckeye, You need to take a trip south and discuss the concept of elevation. IF, more of the people understood an overpass, maybe they wouldn't need the Super Street. Or, is this the redefinition of a Obama Bridge?

Another nice day here in the Ol' Pueblo. Just finished breakfast w/ an old friend from school. He and his wife bought a house recently in the same neighborhood. I may be "leaning" on them a bit depending on how quick I can get around after this foot thing. Pre-op visit w/ the Podiatrist today.
Jack - wish I did know where this came from in my foot. Would have be worth it to keep someone away from Jim's car.
Jim S. - thoughts and prayers for your daughter
Doug - glad to hear the test went ok. Not sure if I'd rather do the treadmill test or not, but the chemicals were somethin' weird. And I thought the Navy gave me some crazy stuff, but they never made me radioactive!
Brent - glad your "event" wasn't as bad as it could be. Even after being trained as a carpenter in the Navy, I have a healthy respect for saws of any kind.
Brutus - Sounds like good news! Hopefully next year will be better for everyone. BTW, I once saw a professional electrician who didn't twist his wires first. Was putting everything back in after the inspection and several nuts just fell off w/ slight movement. Sounds like you are doing just fine.
Well off to try and get some other stuff done.

Fifey, I hooked up the MTH scale semaphore signal per the instructions that came with it. There are three terminals. One is for common (Black wire) and the other two are for normally open and normally closed. They are the red and green wires. I forget which goes where without looking at it but I just followed the instructions and hooked it all up to a MTH ITAD. I'm just using the track power option. You can use fixed voltage if you want to. There is a switch on the side of the ITAD to select which source of power you want.
Re 1218, wish I had been able to see that one run too. I had a chance to ride an excursion with it from Lexington Kentucky to Chattanooga one time but declined. I never had another chance after that as it was pulled out of service before I could go again.
Brent, that was scary! My God!, you could have cut your leg off. Get well soon and stay away from power saws for a while.
Ray
SPMan
Brent,
Wow. Glad you are okay.
Jim,
Prayers on the way.
Chief,
I am with Fife regarding the reporters.
Not much else to report. I continued working on the 302 last night, and I've never seen as much grease in one place like this. Everything is covered. It doesn't help matters that the grease that Gilbert used looks like earwax. I can't do anything else until the smoke unit parts get here.
Brent, At least you didn't get the same response from the nursing staff I got on my last trip to the ER after a close encounter with the table saw. Her comment "Power tools, right?"

CA Nut, takes less property and cheaper than interchange. OH, that's right. You live in the land of plenty of $$$$ and desert where land is nothing but to be used as highways. Highways don't burn too well [they BAKE] but will crack when they SHAKE.
Brent - Glad you got out of that with as little damage as you did !!
Regarding the Super Streets, http://www.ncdot.org/doh/preconstruct/tpb/SHC/facility/Superstreet/navigate/ ,
Looks like it takes the point of impact out of the intersection and moves it about 800 feet away. Sure looks challenging, can't imagine anything like that here. "Were heading east, but need to go north, so take the south off ramp west" Got it !!
What would happen at a rail crossing?
Good Morning
30s early, sun now but going to leave us soon.
Brent glad you are ok, any pictures of the action you can post :)
Chief the barber cut the longest one, next time it will be the other.
Diesel maybe see you at Wild Bills sometime, although I go there in the AM.
Going out to vote now, then a stop at Kroger....S.J.

Chief - Median Turn-Around. We have some of those (EASERN SHORE), especially where 2 rural state routes intersect. Same idea- take away from misjudging oncoming traffic during a left turn. BTW, looks like a house-divided at the Jones' place...
OH, one more thing...why all the YANKEE reporters. I expexted to hear Southern Belles with honey-drippin' dialects. Dissappointed...
Morning. Fifey, thought I would have a news link to show you one.* Seems there were four people murdered in Fayetteville and the truck suddenly packed up and headed south to cover that story [four people in a nice neighborhood and not a home invasion. Police not saying much including names]. Story ran last night was a very short one and did not even cover the topic DOT was meeting with us about. I'll try and find a diagram.
Sunny and warm. Had frosted some but sun has warmed fast. Its a pretty day in the neighborhood.
Got one meeting at noon. Hair cut and "suck" up leaves in the yard.
BRENT!!!!! You always call Dennis W. for the sleep meds before starting surgery. Hey, you are not suppose to operate on your self with a skill saw. YANKEES!!!! Glad you are not hurt any more that you are. Could have been a bad thing cutting close to arteries and etc. I have some hydrocodone if you need it.
Jim, I have a lazer level [I have two] if you need to use one to straighten up your house.
PaPaD, I had the privilege of riding the NS Operation Lifesaver train in NC the other week. Great ride.
More coffee and donuts.
Later.
*Fife, this mornings news story is different from last night's. Watch the link. Super streets is shown. You come to intersection, stop, turn right got up the street and merge left. There is a left turn lane in the median. You do a U turn to go left or U turn and merge right to turn right. No straight through traffic. Saves time and accidents instead of traffic signals.

NEW YORK – Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc. on Tuesday said it agreed to buy Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp. in a deal valuing the railroad at $34 billion.
Berkshire Hathaway already owns a stake of about 22 percent in Burlington Northern, and said it will pay $100 a share for the rest of the company.
The majority of the stock issued in the deal will be Berkshire's "A" shares, but Berkshire's board also approved a 50-for-1 split of its Class B common stock for holders of smaller amounts of Burlington shares who opt for a share exchange rather than cash. Berkshire's Class B shares closed Monday at $3,265. With the split, each share will be worth $65.30. Burlington shares closed Monday at $76.07. The shares shot up over 29 percent to $98.25 in premarket trading.
The deal has been approved by the boards of both companies. It would be the biggest acquisition ever for Berkshire Hathaway Inc.
Berkshire also owns MidAmerican Energy Holdings, which controls power companies in the Midwest and Pacific Northwest. The railroad could be a strategic acquisition because its tracks run right through both regions, a major coal supply route for power plants.
The chairman of MidAmerican Energy has come out vocally against climate change legislation which targets coal-fired power plants.
Burlington Northern Santa Fe is the country's second-largest railroad with a market capitalization — the market value of the company's outstanding shares — of about $25.9 billion.
Good morning all,
IIABSDISEI with temps near 50. Brent (88), omg! I am so glad you were not hurt. Flashbacks to my "snowblower manicure" flooded my mind as I read your story. (Shudder!) Good thing Suzie -Q was there to call 911. Perhaps I am overreacting, but this is one event I can definitely relate to. Just watch out for the painkillers. Take the bare minimum and get off them as fast as you can. I know why people can get addicted to them. Wow, this post took a turn that I did not expect. Prayers for sure going out to you as you recover.
Whew! Just goes to show how fast life can change! I went to the YMCA and did some weghts (at less than full strength) and some soccer juggling. I did some Second Life after I got the trash and recycling together, and I went to bed early. "V" is on tonight. I will definitely watch the first episode or so to see how they deal with it. I had bran muffins on the dining car before sending it to "Points East". TBIL. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Morning guys,

And we call 'em CIRCLES (rounda abouts? what da...?)
Mornin' WHOoooaaaa!!! Awwww man, 88, how cool would it be to have a peg leg...?
Pssst...need to retie that thingie in the back a little...
SPMan - Got to ride that same route behind N&W 1218 back in the 80's. Hey, in reference to that signal, how do you have that hing wired up? Probe is patiently trying to help me with mine...
RockIsland - All of our "crazies" go to Fells Point for Halloween...Number 1 princess was one of them.
Chief - Ok, describe what a Nawth Caroliner "super street" is...
Perhaps Buckeye or dbaker or even jonadel might know...
HI GYZ,
33 and another frosty one here. Yesterday got a compost in the final bed of the yarden put on fertilizer 5-10-5 and the added lime so should be ready for spring.
88, gonna have to come down there and give you some safety lessons? Glad you're OK. Those things bite so watch out.
BRUTUS,don't overtighten those nuts, you might strain your ovaries?
Stay frosty,
Mornin' FellasWell last night was a bit of excitement. I got home around 5:30 and started working on the sunroom exterior. As I was finishing up I had been cutting a piece of plywood. Well I accidentally had my finger on the trigger and my other hand on the blade guard release... As I was setting it down I caught my left leg with the running blade. 8 inches long, 2 inch wide gash on my leg. I kept my cool and applied preasure as I got inside yelling for Susan to call an ambulance. Laid down in the sunroom and propped my leg on my right boot. I was extremely lucky that I did not cut an artery nor did I cut any major nerves. I can hobble around but with great pain.I had quite a few nurses coming in to check it out... I guess they don't get to see some idiot try to do a self amputation! I'm on bed rest for 24 hours, then I have to see the Dr tomorrow so they can check the swelling and see how it is mending. I got a nice pair of scrubs pants! These things are incredibly light.
Evenin' All.
Still pooped from halloween activities, lots of kiddos on saturday then a houseful on sunday. But well worth it.
Jim, Sounds like some headway is being made, for Mrs Brutus.
Forgot what else I was thinking about, must be bed time.
Can't stand this time change bologna......
Happy November! Great weather here this weekend. Raked leaves Saturday, and followed up with more yard work on Sunday.
Had to chuckle at the interesting sight at the city's collection point for leaves - When I pulled up to empty my pick up, there was a guy there with what looked like a 25' enclosed race car trailer. All the doors were open, and leafs were being thrown out. Looked like that trailer was completely full to a depth of about 5'!
Between chores, nice weather, Talledega, and F1, about the only train activity was getting outbid on a Minuteman box car on e-bay. Watched the first 30 and last 30 laps of the NASCAR race. Didn't miss much, did I?
Halloween was a bust - just two kids came by for trick or treat.
Round abouts, traffic circles, whatever - these were common in Spain. If there were two lanes of traffic each direction, the circles were two lanes wide. They seem to work, but they have their own rythem and seem to also have unwritten rules.
South Bend is in the process of expanding their airport. Part of the expansion was re-working the streets on the south edge of the airport. They included a traffic circle. They did not plan for the semi truck traffic on that road - the diameter of the circle is almost big enough to allow a semi with a 40' trailer to get around.
SPman - Southern Pacific runs west bound freight traffic through Sedalia. Most common is empty unit trains of coal hoppers. Normally have two locomotives on the front and one remote controlled helper on the back. Always wondered about the need for a helper on the back of an empty train. It is not that hilly here in Missouri and Kansas. Makes the scheduling of the motive power easier?
Brutus - I picked up a book about home wiring at Lowe's a while back. I don't remember the title, but it did have good diagrams on the variations of the three way switch. They work too - my last three way switch job passed the smoke test. Next trip to your big box hardware store of choice, you might do some 'research' in the book section....
Later all.
