Yay!!! CTT Christmas Issue Received in the mail!!
Posted by trestrainfan on Thursday, October 22, 2009 7:55 PM

I received the December 2009 CTT  in the mail today. It is the special holiday issue, my favorite issue every year.

I've just glanced through it, but it looks fantastic. 3 holiday articles, including NYC Fan's great Christmas layout, a weekend workshop for holiday trains, and photos of reader's Christmas layouts.

Just wanted the CTT folks know how much I appreciate all the work that goes into a Christmas magazine issue. Thanks. Smile

Good morning all,

Received mine yesterday as well.  I scanned some of the articles, and really enjoyed the photo section.  There are some impressive looking layouts in the issue as well.  Glad to see the page count back up to 100, and some nice ads from Lionel, Bachmann and Atlas O.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Ok arrived today.Looked but not read.

Sorry Chief none of my pics. in there. Mr Carp says my RR with 1950s scenery style is not Classic TT material. Kindy strange huh.

I haven't received my December issue yet.  I look forward to the December issue.

A reader on the OGR forum stated:

"I just received my December 2009 copy of CTT and in the front cover is an ad for the new 2009 Industrial Rail Train sets. It was printed with a reversed copy reading cificaP noinU Looks like it was photographed in a mirror."

Then another reader reported:

"My copy has Union Pacific printed correctly. In fact, all print on that page is correct."

Was a correction made during the printing process?

Got mine yesterday.  Great job again guys.  Have read upto the Underground.  Really enjoy the expanded photo section.  Looking forward to the rest.  For those AF Royal Blue fans, the back has a nice article.  I can't see how a 1950s style layout would not have a place in CTT?  Perhaps if we put in a few requests?

No hard feelings here Dennis,I just read his reply and pushed the delete button. I didn't want to write an article, just show him some pictures.

I also thought this issue was great. Since I'm a 1:43 car nut, I appreciated the quality of the cars used on "the Port of NY &NJ" layout, as well as the scenics in general.

I saw this thread and then looked at the stack of mail that I had and lo and behold, it was there! I really like the toy train style layouts and I thought that the idea of the fastrack as an alternative was a great idea.

A great issue as usual.  The PONY&NJ layout article was superb.  It made me want to push Lionel to build a TWO TRACK BASCULE BRIDGE though!

The update on the layout series makes me want to rip up some roads and go with the road material they used.

I also want to try some of that Noch grass mat material.

It's been awhile since I've done updates to my scenery, but this issue makes me want to give it a try!

Yep. I was away for a few days and very pleased to find the issue in my mailbox last night when I got home. No one can model New York City at Christmastime like Skip can, so I was impressed with the article. I am also surprised that no one has commented on the return of Lionel as an advertiser to this magazine. Go big L! In the time I've been subscribing, I have never seen an ad placed by Lionel.

"Kooljock - DO NOT change that layout of yours..."

Hey Fife!  I'm just thinking about sharpening up some of the scenery.  Nothing drastic.  Just some nicer lawns for the houses, and maybe some neater streets up on the mountain.

The photo with the review of the MTH Premiere Line Tropicana set was better than a cartoon! What a hoot! One color paint job, one color decoration paint mask, and it's still wrong! Premiere line, no less.

I couldn't believe it... unbelievable, and a top-of-line MTH set. Though I guess I wouldn't be laughing if I had this set on order... I'd be rather annoyed. MARX Train did more logo accurate work on their dime-store train sets. So much for the argument of spending more more for accuracy or for defending the necessity of pre-ordering.

And I loved Bob's overly way too-kind comment "I had to think about it for a minute. Was too much paint applied, or was it an error in the design?"

I didn't have to think about it... I've done way too much repainting to know that was no error in paint application. I checked my PC references and found a photo of the real 4493 and it's not a prototypical rendering of an actual mistake either. This one is a huge goof, pure and simple.

I remember a previous review of a Penn Central loco someplace where the reviewer said something like "the decoration is good, but then how hard is it to screw up a single color paint job and a single color paint mask?" I guess now we know. I suppose this one might be chalked up to another "advantage" of having your factor across the Pacific Ocean instead of across the parking lot.

Being a fan of the Penn Central, I guess I notice this sort of thing unlike the "one office wag."

I wonder if the engine had been a NYC unit with the spelling "Now York Contral" if that would qualify as a paint application mistake? Laugh

I suppose if you are a fan of one of the predecessor railroads, you might consider this justice rendered. I would imagine that anyone who has ordered this set is a Penn Central fan and therefore might just be very annoyed with this goof, especially on a top-line set. But heck, I'd be annoyed if this mistake had been made on a lower end locomotive that I would want.

THIS is one of the reasons I will not pre-order anything. What's the use of pre-ordering something that turns out to be wrong?
