 Morning Folks,

Just spent some time catching up on the last few days.  The Mrs. is away and so is the dog so I am having a real bachelor weekend.  Carry out food and going out to eat a places the Mrs. doesn't like.  Spent and hour or so this am meandering around the community yard sale. No trains for sale. I may go out a little while later to catch the other part of the neighborhood that I missed, then get some lunch.  I may go to the go cart races later this afternoon. I have a friend from work who has a 6 yo and a husband who race carts at the local track. Weather is gorgeous. Might try to catch the Nationwide race this afternoon on TV. A fella needs a weekend like this once in a while.

Looking forward to the train meet in a few weeks.  I enjoy spending the day with friends and meeting for the CTT photo. Really don't have anything that I have to have but you never know what will catch your eye.

Take care,

Mitch

I seldem run it but I just felt like having a Marx day. Talking to Brutus on the phone we chat about everything.  Enjoy Saturday...S.J.

No OT today, so just chilling.  We have a birthday party later, but they still haven't told us what time, which stinks.  The sun is out - can't decide whether to just sit here and read or something, or go mow the lawn or something useful.  I'll let you know my decision, by and by....

Good Morning all from beautiful Southern Ohio

Just a quick check in before we leave for Mickey World.  The kids are excited.

Dennis - The man in the end gave the gift of his body for he life of others.  Sound familiar?

Jim - I would go ahead and touch them up.  Since they are more operational than collector, go for it.  I've used sharpie pens for black and red details, I wonder if they make a white marker?

Got to run

May God bless

Rich --

There are some GREAT BUYS out there on bikes right now, I wish I could convince the boss that a new and different bike would enhance our marriage!  The only way I'll ever get another one at this point in my life is if this one is stolen or I win the lottery ... guess I should start buying a ticket every week.  Isn't Daytona just around the corner for their fall fest?

Our oldest son had quite a scare on Thursday, he was in the parking lot and there was a lightning strike very close.  He did go to the emergency room and they ran an EKG, very high BP and tremendous ringing in his ear plus a small burn mark.  I told him to go buy a lottery ticket as he was super lucky that day, he did take Friday off and is doing fine, very fortunate and blessed.

It all begins today in about 3 hours, marching band contest season judging, 4 consecutive weekends.  I do enjoy it if the weather cooperates, not so much fun when the feet are soaked or you lose feeling in your fingers and can't write because of the cold.  Typically it's good weather, it's the rotten days you remember.  Time to hit the road.

PS--Granddaughter is here for the weekend, I see train room time tonight when I get home!!!!!!

Jon

So many roads, so little time.

Mornin' boys.  For some unknown reason, feelin' a little hairier this a.m....Dunce

Back on nightwork, but still keep wakin' up at 0430.  Went sailing yesterday with a couple rookies.  Pretty rough, whitecaps and sustained winds at 23mph.  Jib busted loose at the foot of the furler, so we had to motor back in.  I'm at the point now that I welcome weather experiences...it's not all about blue skies and fair winds. Morning all!  Got a call from one of my old friends from the FD.  Another one of the guys I worked with passed away....brain aneurysm.  At least it was quick.  Also heard that one of the guys in Yonkers, NY was killed and two guys are in critical condition from a fire.

Getting ready to go do rounds.  Wife is making home made waffles, so I'll go in after breakfast.  It looks like a beautiful day so far.  After rounds, plan is to come home and do some layout work.  I have a few things I want to accomplish today.  Mostly scenery.

Banks, my father in law used to have a old Ford tractor.  He also had a old 47 Ford pickup truck.  When the tractor would break down, he'd take parts off the truck to fix it, then do the tractor work, and finally, put the parts back on the truck so he could go get new parts when they came in.

Going to try to post picture from last night:

This is taken with a Nikon D90 and a 1100mm Swarovski lense.  Given a little more time with the lense, I know I can get less distortion.

Don - that cat would have to SCAT around here too!

Patrick - great pic Laugh

Sign - Welcome to the new guys too - keep posting, that's the trick to the coffee pot!  We all read everything, but it's just too much to remember or comment when you finally get to where you want to post!  We have one guy who can keep it all straight, but he has been busy - hope his family is okay.

Got off an hour early from work - now I have a 3 day weekend.  Tomorrow we are going to a birthday party though and Monday my wife and I have some legal stuff to get done, so will probably get one good day working on the basement - a little closer every time Thumbs Up

TARDIS is ready - if you don't know, just turn on a beacon and we'll swing by and pick you up.  We hit all the houses and then head out for some icecream or other treats and occasional entertainment, too!  The TARDIS is bigger inside than out and we have a layout room, a tv room, and another room with a stage apparently!  This week, we visited Don, Chuck, Jim twice, and then circled over etc!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Sela - love it! Just got back with the bride from watching our pastor's four kids so he could get a cheap date night. It was a different sort of date night for us. Big Smile  Looks like soccer in the rain in the am with the youngest - actually love playing in the rain myself. Our local HS beat the opposition in a downpour - it was 50 - 0 by halftime. Zounds! Just picked up my middle boy on the way home. He looked like a drowned rat. LOL Good weekend to work in the basement if I get a chance. Have good sleep all.

Hello all!Sign - Welcome to the new guys.

Accent?  What are youns guys talkin about?

Been busy, two out of three tractors are on the disabled list. One with a blown head gasket and one with a blown Hydraulic pump.  When it rains it pours. Train time will be short till I get one of them fixed.

Been hearing so much about GRITS I decided to try them. Bought a box today. GRITS for breakfast tomorrow. I'll definitely give you my opinion next time.

We got a lot of much needed rain last weekend and this week, To bad the growing season is over. The soybeans were almost ready to combine before the rain. It'll take them at least a week to dry again.

Well I best get to bed,

Prayers to all who need them

Now, Y'all are just talking too funny for me.  Can't quite keep up.  Anyway, was another long day.  Had a couple of early cases, then had to have the interviews as part of the evaluation process.  The one was real easy, the other not so.  I think the guy was humbled, but also think that it will be taken constructively.  Should help out in the long run.

Had another one of those Sela moments (pause and think about it).  Homeless person is killed, but in the process, family donates his organs to others.  He was away from his family and alone for 5 years.  No way to live and no way to die.  One odd thing, some of his organs are going 1000 miles back to a person in his home state.

My wife told me that the $100 gift card from Office Depot for buying a new computer came in today.  We arranged to go out to a place we had not been in some time.  They have a special, 2 for $20.  That includes salad, choice of two dinners (I had a 16oz T-Bone, she had the Grouper and shrimp), along with two sides, and desert.  We were all too stuffed to finish and brought home plenty of extra.  Service was outstanding too.

Came home to read the last OGR and CTT and then, went out to take some shots of a full moon on a clear night.  Got some great shots.  I have a Swarovski 1100mm Lense for the Nikon D-90.  Amazing the detail.  Kids want to mess with it, but I think I'll wait till they are older to let that happen.  Well, time for bed and hope to get some scenery done over the weekend.

God Bless,
Dennis

Harold,

Sign - Welcome I had a professor that lived in Rhode Island for several years, and some words I just couldn't understand.Wink She was the best professor I have ever had though. Really helpful and she didn't put you on the spot as some like to do when you don't know something.

Jim,

I just bought a red 651 from the same seller that I got the 650s from. I wasn't going to buy it, but I didn't want the set to get split up. The LHS still has the set of two green 650s and a green 651. I think I know what I want for Christmas! What are your thoughts on touching up the window outlines? Mine aren't that bad, but they are not great either.

Afternoon all,

Just getting ready to leave work for a week off, and thought I check in.

Jim - The 650's are really nice I think.  I keep several red ones on the layout and have a set of green ones on the shelf but are for use not shelf queens.  If the lights flicker when you are running them I've got a tip to fix it if you need it that is reversable if that is a consideration.

I will try and check in later tonight

May God bless

So I was in the LHS picking up the November issue of CTT and an MTH switch (I know, I know, but I'm in too deep now to go to something else), and what did I see?  Realtrax is now tubular rail.   I don't think I like it...but I haven't tried it.

Yeah, WHAT accent...we talk normal, it’s YOUSE guys that talk funny...Laugh

I remember when my father died and my brother Terry and his family came up from NC for the funeral his youngest was talking like OPIE TAYLOR.... The kid never had a chance to have a nj accent. He had been in NC since he was in diapers. My brother on the other hand had also picked up a fairly heavy accent so I think its a Southern Conspiersey (I know I spelled that wrong) to convert all yanks buy any means possible. Now that being said, Iwould move there in a second if I had a job there. Chief......Any jobs in Roseyville????Smile

Brent,

I know what you mean about dogs being careless when they walk. Our dog doesn't doesn't go around things either. He will either plow right through something, or go right over it. Despite the occasional presents, I'd still rather have a dog than a cat.

I never did get to work on the layout yesterday. I have some online stuff to do, but hopefully that won't take long. The Flyer 650s arrived in the mail this morning, and they are in great shape aside from the typical "mildew" on the couplers. Now, I just need to get the green 650s and a green 718 mail car.Big Smile I also bought a complete body for the 736 cattle car that I bought in July. I was going to pass on it, but I figured that I should buy it while I have the oportunity.

We're in VA, we've been movin' da maw-in-law down here and prepping our place in NJ to rent.  Kids are now going to CCS.

That is Confederate Correctional School.  It is where we make Yankee kids go to school to learn to be proper Southern Ladies and Gentlemen. Whistling  Especially if they have been in NJ.  Gets rid of that accent.  See what we did with Dennis W.  What a nice proper Reb we made out of him.  Grits loving and all. Approve

Slept late.  Need coffee and then hit the gym.  Want to head to the lake.  May wait for wifey and ride together.  Youngest SIL is going too.  Clarksville is having their fall festival tomorrow.  All want to go there.  Think I am pulling pontoon boat out.

Have a good weekend.  Later

PS: Don, Quadrajets have a plug in the bottom [like a freeze plug].  They will start leaking.  If you had shipped to me, I would have rebuilt.  Use to be able to do the rebuild "with my eyes closed".

I had the El Camino checked out yesterday due to significant gas smell, especially after turning it off.  Ends up the carburator is leaking.  So have a rebuilt one coming in next week.  Should help gas milage too!

Went over to a friends house last night to help him get DCS/TMCC/Legacy working together.  Had success!  He needed one cable, which is on order as of today, loaned him mine tell he gets his.  Now he is able to run all 3 systems independantly or in unison.  Also, can run and controll ALL engines with just the DCS is controller if so desired.   As we were wrapping up this BIG old cat, must have been 25 lbs, comes into the room gets up on a chair then onto the layout.  The cat walks around and all over the layout.  Then circles in an area and plops down on two switches and 3 sections of track.  Now there are accessories all over and lots of detail.  Now IF it would have been me, I would have cranked up the voltage on the track and made sure the cat had a memorable moment.  So as we leave the room he just shut off all the lights, leaving the room dark and the cat in the middle of the layout.  I was astonished!

During my rounds y'day, stopped at a train store I don't frequent very often.  Good store, and good guy, just not convienant.  We had a enjoyable conversation, he was telling me about the number of people trying to sell off trains, LOTS !  Really depressing the resale market, also he had asked me what I was running, and when I told him I have the 3 systems running together, he said I am only the 2nd person he knew of that was able to do that.  I was really surprised with that statement.  Oh well.

Don - That is great news! The El Camino will go from 8MPG to 9MPG! Thumbs Up Smile Susan's cats used to wander around on the Christmas layout. They wouldn't touch the buildings or cars but the people would get knocked down quite a bit. For the most part cats are rather delicate when they walk, dogs on the other had could careless what they run into. So far I've not had any problems with the cats getting on the layout, but they do like to jump up on the bookself that is next to the layout and watch the trains for a few minutes, then they get bored and leave.

Unless you have someone who knows what they are doing, or are incredibly patient, it is difficult to get the three systems to work nicely. I didn't have any problems getting TMCC/Legacy to work together so IMHO it is just getting DCS to work with Legacy. I don't have the TIU and AIUs so I haven't ventured down that road yet... maybe when I'm ready you could head out to MD for a vacation? Wink My LTS informed me a few weeks ago that they had just purchased a large collection due to the fella's wife passing, him not being able to take care of the house himself, so he was selling the house and moving into a patio home where he didn't have enough room for the trains. It was sad because the guy was in his 80s. You should have seen everything he had - enough to fill their second floor room (I would estimate at 20ft by 60ft). ALL of it conventional. There have been fellas in the LTS selling a piece here and there trying to get by... problem is there aren't many of out there buying now. They had a C&O Streamline Turbine from MTH but it requires O-84 curves and I just can't squeeze that in right now... I think I'll be happy with my current layout for a while. If we have kids and move into a bigger home and the kids are really interesting in trains, then I may build a bigger layout with O-90, O-99, and O-108 curves on the mainline! Now THAT would be a nice layout! Smile

Good morning all,

It is cloudy and mild in SE Indiana with temps in the 50s and 60s.  Papadiesel, welcome to the pot!  As you have observed already, this is a nice, friendly place where all are welcome and the conversation occasionally turns to trains.  Enjoy the soccer games as there is nothing better to watch.  Speaking of soccer, the boys won 3-0 and "my" soccer girls distinguished themselves with a 2-0 loss (3-0 JV) to a very good team.  Closest they have come to beating this particular team since my Norwegian soccer friend played (that was 5-4).  Took it easy the rest of the evening.  I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakast before sending it to "Points East".  Nice drive on the Tardis last night as people were fairly sedate.  TBIL, and you can pick me up after "Numb3rs" tonight.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana
