Good Afternoon, Ya'll, From Temporarily Sunny NE Taxachusetts,

After a gestation period of 5 days 18 hours and 50 minutes, our 9 month old male Doberman Maximus gave birth to an intact and whole men's sport sock, right on the family room rug.  One of my two adult children, the one NOT living with us, nearly became an only child over this incident.

I'm with you, George!  Rain in the forecast over the next couple of days.  But the sun will insert its presence in between the showers and perhaps 80 today here also.  This is infinitely better than what we've been getting the past 6 weeks.  I'll take it.

Is it me or is Laz mia??????

Fife.....we know you won't admit it, but I think Dennis got it right.  The finely stocked wine cellar in the cabin of your ship caused an "overdraft" condition.  You must make the hard choices:  bite the bullet and remove unnecessary items, like water, furniture, ropes. gas, and anchors.  And when exiting the mooring facilities and while navigating the channel into the Bay, place the passengers into the dinghy and tow them until you are in deeper water.

Dennis.......my daughter is doing great and the new granddaughter is thriving, gained a pound last week.  At this rate she will be about 70 pounds when we celebrate her first birthday.  Big Smile  And you are right......the putrid rainy weather these days rolls right off my back!

Chief......rumor has it the infamous Wallabe posted bail, violated the home confinement provisions of his release, and is on the loose again.  Didn't Roseyville's finest remember to affix a gps equipped ankle monitoring device?

DougM......that story of the cemetary folks digging up South side graves and burying the remains in a mass grave, then trying to sell the plots......gruesome.  At least this Chicago story doesn't include the involvement of greedy politicians.  Or does it?  Re the Glock, if memory serves me correctly the law abiding citizens of Chicago are sticklers for observing the City statutes which prohibit possessing and shooting off fireworks on July 4th celebration.  Conversely, it then rains lead, not cats and dogs.

JimT......you changed your screen name!  Re the springs on your garage door that failed and broke.  That is common, but most frequently at or near the attachment points.  You may want to look into investing in some safety cables.  They slip right up the center of the springs and then attach to the tracks.  Interfere with nothing.  If/when the spring lets go, the spring remains in place and doesn't become a guillotine.  Cheap and easy to install.  Those springs when they let go can take your head clean off.  Re the Probe, the ride home can be a chore or a nice way to wind down......except in MA where the rotten roads lend themselves more to off road vehicles or people under the influence that don't notice these things.

I need some help remembering who had the interesting neighbor.......DougDG or Don.  Am I mistaken from reading some back posts, or has she returned to the hood with her pole and light show?

TGIF !

Jack

Good Afternoon.

Boy, been busy all morning. I got the outside back in order so now I have a whole heap of broken bricks and grout to get rid of. But thats not a major issue, it will go a little at a time if necessary.

Five teens killed yesterday by Detroit to Chicago Amtrak. Drove around a van and the crossing gates and right into eternity.

Have a great day...S.J.

Jack,

That was GregM who had issues with a garage door.  I only have had an issue involving a creeper and a steep driveway, but that's another story.

Not much going on today. I tried to replace the light bulbs in the window switches in the Probe, but I gave up on that for the day. I think I'll have to get the bulbs from Ford if they are still availabe.

Doug--I apologize about not getting the next car to you, it will go out in Monday's mail.  I could give you at least 10 excuses for June but the truth is I just didn't get it done.  I will shoot photo's for this weeks SPF and get that car moving.  I recieved a car from Don B. last week and I haven't even opened it yet, with going on vacation and then having the open house and seeing the dentist several times I'm way behind.

Fear not, I will follow through, I hope Black Eye

Still sunny and warm here in the Ol' Pueblo, but looks like we have a good storm building. Maybe more fish in the Jeep tomorrow.

Well according to my doc I am borderline diabetic. The hemoglobin test came back ok, but I've now had several blood glucose tests over limits. Enough to qualify me for the diabetic class at one of the local hospitals. She still thinks it is controllable by diet and eventually may be able to pull me off some of the blood pressure meds. Everything else seems to check out ok. Been a very interesting way to find out I need to eat better. The office did like the picture BTW. I told them they can use it as advertisement, "if we can help some crazy guy who works there, we can help you...". I should do the same w/ the local radiator shop. The same place that custom built the rad in the MG, made the heat exchanger for our hydrogen maser, otherwise known as an atomic clock.

Jack - it's hard to imagine how close everything is in New England, although it did take me a bit to get from Burlington to Lisbon, ME a couple years back. Great grand dad built ships from around 1800 - 1850 in the Kittery/Portsmouth area, so about the same time Essex was in full swing. Must be in the family, because both my great GF and grandfather worked at the Iron Works. Found a really good book on one of the last destroyers launched on the ways there called "The Yard". Excellent reading.

Fife - glad to hear you and the boat are OK. I wouldn't sweat it too much. Recently read a story about running the Queen Elizabeth on the putty. Don't think the skipper made Commodore of the line for a bit after that. And diving under yours to inspect the hull is a lot easier than dry-docking an 80,000 tonner:)

George - that's one of the best ceiling layouts I've seen yet. Very nice!

Jon - SD roads are pretty good, but hands down I think Nevada gets the prize. It's all gambling revenue. And talk about some long stretches. Was not unusual to not see another car for 45 minutes. Liked your story about the cafe. Meeting people on trips like that is the most fun. I've had some interesting experiences working on the rez. The time I crawled out from under the church (what I call a "prairie dog expedition") dirt from head to toe and jumped in w/ some other volunteers to go pell mell to Chadron, NE before everything closed. I can only imagine what the locals thought of what appeared to be a homeless guy wandering around w/ an oxygen sensor.

Hope everyone has a good weekend!

Jim F - I'veused the vinyal sleeves like you put paper in for windows. Cheap and frosted.

Gorge - Nice layout!

Busy weekend ahead, but I am taking a few days off next week.  Get the truck and camper ready for camping.  Put brakes on today and new tires Wednesday.

Evening everyone.  Got home in a timely manner today and got to do a little more varmint dispatching.  Two shots, two kills.  Kids are about done with the swimming lessons and just in time for a swim party for the heart team and the families.  Should be fun.

Heard about those teens going around the gate and getting killed.  Sad news.  While my heart goes out to the families, also goes out to the engineer who was helpless to prevent it.

George, looks like a nice elevated layout you have there.  I am sure it brings smiles to the faces of your visitors too.

Bob, stick to the diet and most maintain good control of things.  Just don't slip off the proverbial wagon as we often see.  There is a reason they want to keep your blood sugar under control.  Also, invest in a good blood pressure monitor kit to watch that.  Should you start having headaches, you'll want to have your doc upgrade the HTN meds.

Wife was supposed to work tonight, but the census is low so they called her off.  She will go in in the morning.  has to put in at least 24 hours a month.  Oh well.

God Bless,
Dennis

Howdy guys - rain in St. Louis today!  Had White Castles for lunch with a chocolate shake - yum!

Picked up a replacement screw for tmcc board upgrade - the one that came with it was a little too short due to the design of the floor on the Annie car.  I'll have to color it to blend in on the bottom though.  Company is visiting, so that's all the train news for today, lol!  Thanks for the suggestions on the window material - I actually have some binders like that at work - might be able to scavange an old ripped up one?

Nice chats with RT, SJ and Charlie tonight - although Charlie lost signal.  TARDIS is ready and I guess it IS Jim's turn to drive, so we need to get out the seatbelts boys!  Here we go!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Morning to All,

Pretty quiet on the Pot for a Saturday AM.  I finally have caught up on the chores missed whilst we were away.  Today we are off to DC to pick up the Mrs. car that our son has been using for the last two weeks. May try to stop at Catoctin Mountain Trains on the way home.

Back to work on Monday, but i am going to take off again on Tuesday to go to a Farmer's Market in Manheim PA that is only open on Tuesdays. Some minor drama at work with a teacher who was going to transfer and then changed her mind.  I am glad she is staying because she's a great teacher and now I don't have to interview. Lots on interviews on Monday for custodial positions.  I had two transfer to a new school and another one who may possibly transfer.  We have over 80 applicants for the positions. Folks are really desperate for jobs, especially jobs with benefits.

Take care,

Mitch

Good morning

Tardis ride sure was fun. Some may have a few bruise's but it was a jolly good ride. Eggs, bacon, hash browns w/green pepper and onion, one toast. We had rain early this morning, not much but some places got dumped on. My back is better gone from hurt to sore so things are improving. Glad that job is done.

Have a great Saturday...S.J.

Charlie, more lighthouse pictures please.

Just a quick fly by, need to do some A/C preps this morning. Heating-up and after a couple of wonderful low humidity days it's baaack. The muchkin will be spending the nite with us so Mom & Dad can have an anniverasry date night. With where they are heading for dinner sure glad they are paying the bill and not me.

Jack, just love the way you can describe life's rather mundane daily events and make them sound so funny. Thumbs Up Now get back to work spoiling them grandkids, or as I call it "Parental Revenge".

Mornin' boys.  Expecting thunder-boomers from the south today, so sailing tomorrow.  May go down to the dock and try to figure out how to place the new seat on the head.  It's an aftermarket RV style unit...speaking of RVs, any ideas on how to cut down on the odors from within.  Keep in mind, we haven't used it for #2, and bleach is not an option on a boat.

SPMan - We draft about 4 and a half feet. 7000 lb displacement with lead keel.  I was informed that some jokester may have moved the marker into shoal.  Luckily, my little Yanmar is underpowered, so we stopped instantly, instead of digging in.

dwiemer - I'm actually a sober sea-goer.  Dehydrate pretty quickly on the water, which seams odd.  When we do imbibe, it's after we return, or just hanging out at the dock, taken in the Rails & Sails...Pirate

RockIsland - You do have some sound ideas...Laugh

submmbob - Hey, haven't nudged any icebergs yet, so I'm still ahead of the game.

seacoast - Handsome set-up you have there. Thumbs Up

Good choice! Alcohol and salt water don't mix.  Got this quote from a guy who put an expensive sailboat on the rocks of the Los Angeles Harbor breakwater a long time ago in the fog.  He was in a fog too.

Got some rain last evening and not too much cloud buildup yet. Got to run to the hardware store and pick up a stepladder. Found $100 worth of gift certificates thata friend of mine gave me after helping him w/ his house renovation. Stuck them in a book and forgot about them and now a year or so out of date. I used to work for the manager of this store so hopefully they'll still take them. Hate to waste them on my friend's account.

Fife - A Yanmar diesel? Neat. We use a one-lunger as a backup power supply for the maser from time to time. First time I had to start it someone had left the battery switch on and it was drained. We needed the generator so I went about the process for pull starting it. Never pull started a diesel so I was "well this could be interesting". Opened the switch to vent the cylinder (which made this all possible) and had gave about half a pull and she fired and came up to idle. Way easier than most lawnmowers. Oh, and find the joker who moved the buoy and move his outhouse about 4 feet back some night. That should do it.

Dennis - so far the diet has kept me out of crisis mode so I'm happy to stay here. Doc says eventually I'll be able to reintroduce some carbs, but for now I'll just stick to the S.U.'s on the MG and the Rochester's on the Corvair:) I got a BP cuff after Hospital Visit #1 and have been keeping a daily log of it. Took the cuff to my's docs last week to compare and it was fairly consistent. I guess the class will bring me up to speed on glucose monitoring. Maybe I could just take a reading every time I skin a knuckle on the engine:) HTN meds? Is that what I'm on for BP and heart rate?

Ole Timer - good to see you back. Been missing the double-headed cab forwards.

Sir James - glad to hear the back is better.

Brutus - hope the wife is doing well and post a few pics of the Thomas conversion if you can. I'd be interested in seeing what that looks like.

Pat - how are you and the farm doing?

Well, should get off to Ace before Fred leaves and then have to clean out the Jeep (mark the date, doesn't happen often, rolling dust collector that it is)  We are going to see "The Great Escape" which is playing at the restored Fox Theater downtown. Should be fun.

Enjoy the weekend everyone!

Evening all hows it going here? Fine here. was supose to work Ot tonight but they had enough so I was sent home which is fine as my BP has been playing games with me so guess will need to go see my doc again about it. I been getting low readings the past week but then today it was high at work after I was sitting for a while befor they read it. ( 140 over 90) ( last night I had 106 over 58) so its going from one exstream to the other so something has to be figured out.

was feeling light headed earlier today also. But feel fine now. so who knows whats going on.

Hope to go get another 1"x8"x8' board and a 1"x4"x8' to build another double shelf monday when I'm off. Smilewill put a few more trains up on that. May get the rest of my passenger cars up that I have in tuscan red. put them behind a steam engine I have. well 3 of the 4 as one has a broken truck well the screw is stripped out ( the one that holds it to the car) so need to get a bigger one for it. Banged Head
hope all had a good day today will talk to you all later

Raining downtown this morning and now it is raining here at home, near St. Louis, MO.  Oh well - grass needs it.  Found one of my lizards that were living the bushes dead - something squashed it Sad

Worked 6 hours ot, then picked up a piece of styrene and some spray to cover those windows.  Bob - I'll post some pics later, all I've done so far is pick up parts.  Drilled a couple holes, made a wire tether, and thinking about things mostly at this point.  Will get more work done on it this weekend though.

I'll try to be back later - running on battery power.

Wow.  Been busy.  Came home from big meeting and wife had SIL and BF come for steaks [I had to cook of course].  Watered garden with soakers while cooking.  Then at 11 PM, they wanted to go to the lake.  So off we go with dogs and SIL, nephew and other SIL's daughter [all in 4 Runner] to lake house.  Then we get there after midnight.  Pam, Neice and Nephew play cards and etc while I sleep in recliner pretending to watch TV.   At 4 AM, dogs go out and I go to bed.  Get up at 7 and cook stuffed sausage and biscuits.  Take gang to pontoon and come back to water all the flower beds.  No rain to mention up there in two weeks.  No grass to cut as dry.  Later go to pontoon and take gang for long ride up lake and back.  Watered neighbor's flower beds as his wife is recouping from and minor surgery and is not at the lake.   Came home, watered more here [mainly Pam's flowers and shrubs] and sprayed all the garden, trees and vines.  Mowed grass and now time to eat dinner.

TIRED.  Chat later.

Good morning all,

It was rainy and sunny in SE Indiana today.  Leg is feeling halfway better.  I mowed this evening and went to the YMCA earlier today to do weights.  Ryan Hunter-Reay finally got a decent qualifying run for AJ's team.  Team Green is totally out to lunch with their best at 17th.  Mr. Ashley Judd is on pole.  Mercedes power dominated qualifying at the Greman Grand Prix with 5 out of the top 7 spots.  I had bacon and biscuits on the dining car for breakfast this morning.  Beacon is lit and I can drive.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good Evening

Nice day in the 80s. Did laundry this morning and then went to sons house to help prep the garage for paint. You guys with two houses to care for must have stored energy from something as I have all I can do to keep this house in good condition. Whatever it is I know it's not grits as they just grind away at your innards. Banilla is ready so bring on the thingy...S.J.

Fifey - Wal-mart or any camping store sells a chemical that keeps the odors down. When we had an RV we used something called Camp-A-Chem.  Pretty inexpensive, you put the specified amount in your holding tank and then replenish after you empty the tank. You do need to use special bio-degradable TP in the RV units.

Aloha all. What a nice day. Teens gone - middle boy boating with a friend's family on a 27 footer somewhere on Lake Michigan - daughter staying over girlfriends. So youngest, bride and I went to the beach! Then a graduation party. Now just catching up a bit.

Fife, they were still cleaning up from the Port Royal grounding outside Pearl Harbor when I was there. Millions to fix the reefs after Hawaii threatened to sue the Navy. Brutus, sounds like the TMCC project is coming along - can't wait to see the photos. Bob, I hope diet does the trick for you. Sir J, you driving the Tardis tonight? Beacon is on. Jon, don't worry about the car - run it a bit so it can enjoy I-o-way.

Prayers for your daughter, Charlie - hope the meds work Sad

Storm passed over and had some nice chats with RT, SJ, Charlie and Wes tonight.  Also with a friend on Facebook.  Finally, I am all chatted out - can't take any more, lol!

Doug - you are dead meat.  That's all I'll say on the matter for the sake of decorum Laugh

Watching Bewitched, the Movie - almost the only movie I like Nicole Kidman in actually.  Oh, I liked her in Dead Calm, but she was mostly just scenery and a scream there, lol!

You guys are the best.  Wife had her best week in a long time this week.  Her sister and her kids came to visit - they just left this afternoon.  Kids all had a lot of fun visiting with cousins and the women had some good family time together.  I mostly got out of the way and looked the other way as they ALMOST broke this and that throughout the house.  Somehow, this magic worked, because nothing was broken despite the wooden sword battles etc.

Okay, Mike wants to drive and I will let him - let's get going my man!  Lots of people to pick up and miles to go before we sleep, lol!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
