Jim S.,

I bought a 322AC on Friday from Marty's Trains on ebay. I got it for $119 before shipping. If you do a completed items search for "hudson", it'll show up. It needs the eccentric rod on the left side, so I placed an order online with Doug from Portlines. I also got some link couplers so that I can complete the 718 mail car that I bought on Christmas Eve.

Kurt--be patient and be smart, there are some GREAT buys out there and they will get even better Aug. 1.  Consider slightly used and for goodness sakes, don't get a bike that's too small and want to trade in a year or less especially if it's two up for you.  I think you told me you were going to take the MSF class, EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Take the course first and then buy a bike, see if it is what you really want to do.  I took the course 4 years ago and that's after having my MC license since 1970, I never did let it lapse.  I learned a great deal from that class and am looking at taking the advance riders course.  When you get ready to buy let's talk because impulses can be overpowering

Kurt - Gotta 2nd that!!  I'm wishing I would have waited...there is a Soft-tail for $10,595 here (Street Glide I think) with 7K miles and it is sweet!!  I'm a little buried in my Sporty, so I'll have to wait a bit.  I'm ganging up on the payments, so I'll be about even soon.  There is a 1200C - 2000 model in purple with 1700 miles on it for $4995.  So, look, be patient and you too will be getting your bike cleaned!!!

The best riding weather up north is usually late August to Last part of October.  It's cool and crisp and a blast to rumble through some of the less traveled roads with yer buds...!

I am the monster in your head...And I thought you'd learn by now, It seems you haven't yet.

Afternoon all!

Small group of college friends reunion party was a big success...thanks Brutus and Tardis crew et al for cleaning up the leftovers (hooch included)!

Typically when we host a gathering something goes wrong.  WH goes out, Toilet backs up...this time the DW took a dump...again (that makes 4 and out).  Water condensed on the countertop, dipped down, and shorted the top mount controls, and circuit board.  We went to Lowe's yesterday and found a nice Bosch unit, that was delivered today.  I just finished installing it, and it's up and running.  Nice to get rid of the ticking bomb of a DW.

Jon / Rich:  I have set my sites on a Yamaha Virago 535 as a first street bike. (looks like a sportster) Bride OK'd the purchase, but will result in 'train restrictions for a year'.  After seeing Rich's bike at the wash, I may rethink this....Nice ride Rich!

Brutus:  Beacon is on!

A Good Afternoon giz...

Well, the Highlight of the weekend was Saturday – but I digress...

Friday night went to Bike night, had a few burgers and a bottle of ...water!  Not much happening, so....Off to Saint Augustine (left at 8PM) took the expressway to A1A

(A1A runs North/South along the coast, through some undeveloped areas).  Fortunately,

I had the fullface helmet on and the bugs were thick.  Got through to St. Augustine, stopped on US 1, fueled up and ran North on US 1 to Jax. US 1 runs parallel with the FEC main line (nope, didn’t see a thing), nice ride, quiet and light traffic.  Was in the driveway at 10:15PM

Saturday was nice in the AM and got the bike washed and had a dyno run – which was upsetting as it showed 25HP (It’s at HD now for a check out pumping out 60 HP/65 ft/lb).  Rained like crazy just after the run, but the bike was safely tucked in the garage for the duration.  Had a few burgers and sodas, ran home between showers and did laundry (mine!).  Tried to get the train room re-organized, that got de-railed when the Mrs. came home.

Sunday spent the day under a Buick Century (older, FWD) had to drop the fuel tank and replace the fuel pump for the Princesses’ boy friend.  8 hours later – success!!  Runs and did all this with ¼ tank of fuel in it and on my back.  Geez, I’m sore...

Jon – sounds like a nice ride – wish I could’ve been there – saw the route I think you posted some time ago.

That’s all for now – bike is back with me and under cover – of course, it’s sprinkling now.

I am the monster in your head...And I thought you'd learn by now, It seems you haven't yet.

Good afternoon Y'all!  Waiting to start a rather "big" case in a few moments.  Has been rather busy schedule lately.  That's OK, I enjoy the work.

Doug, we have had a few moments like that.  A couple happened when the music director left his Mac on behind the pastor/speaker.  In one, we had a high level guest speaker giving his message when this thing started chiming in over the system.  It happened a few months later to the pastor and he was not amused.  I had an incident on the lights.  Someone had been working under the board and left the power surge strip exposed.  We were in the middle of our music team, when I stepped on the power button.  Have you ever seen an entire row of Martin Lights suddenly shut down?  gives a spectacular light show.  Crowd thought it was intentional and part of the act.

Gotta run.

Thanks for the video of Portlands very own SP 4449! I have lived in the Portland area for over 12 years now and have yet to see her in person. Guess I should pay more attention to her activity schedule! Heck, had lived here for many years before I even knew that she called Portland home! Maybe I will be sure to catch her on the return leg!

Have a great Monday and a great week one and all!

Mitch, thank you for the 4449 video.  I have had so many personal experiences around this engine that it is like old home week seeing her again.  I got a ride in her cab once for about a hundred miles and rode a deadheading train behind her for another 100 miles or so over Tehachapi and on to Fresno California when she was returning home after movie work in Southern California.  She looks good stuttin' her stuff back in your neck of the woods.

Good Morning from the Heartlands where the weather couldn't be more perfect, 59 degrees with low humidity and just a light breeze, the best!  Lots of catch up chores today but I should be done my noon, maybe.

I had just a wonderful 4 days in south west Wisconsin, left early Thursday AM and returned home late yesterday afternoon.  It was a midwest rally of folks that simply like to get together and ride in small groups, led by a road capt., through some of the most beautfiul back roads in America.  The max # in a group is supposed to be capped at 20 and the smaller rides are sometime 6-10 bikes.  The routes are well researched and chosen to offer the best scenery possible, I just can't tell you how beautiful the Wisconsin scenery is.  I've travelled to Colorado, South Dakota, Wyoming, etc. and always return refreshed, renewed and grateful for having had the experience.

What I've really discovered the last 4 years though is the relationships that I've built with the people I've met, even my son.  There are always the "wow" moments when you come around a corner or see at the top of a mountain pass but it's the quiet times at the end of the day when just talking with someone you care about that you remember the most.  Friday's ride was 80% in the rain, I hate rain on a bike, I'm absolutely paranoid.  If it's raining when we are supposed to leave, I won't, if it starts raining while riding I will continue---Friday was a 270 mile ride that was incredible.  The best part of the day was a long lunch break when I met two gentlemen on the ride and we had a great talk, the end of the day was equally enjoyable at the BBQ meeting even more new friends, it's not about the ride, it's about the people.

I left WI early yesterday and stopped to see our kids in Cedar Falls, IA and had lunch with them.  My Grand Daughter came running down the driveway to greet Grandpa, that was the best hug of the weekend Smile  Got to visit with the kids for two hours and check up on DIL who is carrying our soon to be born Grand Son.  They, like many on this forum, have had a very tough time with pregnancies, DIL is a very "high risk" but with great medical care we are praying this one will be successful.  We are thinking Labor Day weekend will truly be labor day.  My traveling days will be limited from this point on to no more than 200 miles from home, Grandpa's camera needs to be ready Thumbs Up

Good to be home and wake up with my best friend beside me.  We didn't even turn the TV on last night, we must have talked for 4 hours about our weekends and life.  Now, if I could just get her to mow when I'm gone................ Laugh

1249 wonderful miles since Thursday!

Morning all.  Did not get to do work at pond.  Helper did not make it home in time yesterday.  Suppose to do this AM instead.  Had rain over night which was a surprise [had not been forecast].  Now cloudy and foggy.  Will see if helper wants to work this AM.  Nice young man next door.  Get him to help and I pay him.  Gives him some spending money and I do not have to do all the work [as usual].  Got County Commissioners' and then Mayors' association tonight.  Got to pick up Lucy from groomers by noon.  Have a great week.

Aloha all. Nice day here. Can't believe I forgot to post yesterday. Missed Charlie's visitor coming through Chicago. Maybe'll catch her on her way back west. Had a video disaster at church yesterday when, of course, I was directing. Someone tapped a 'mouse' that reset everything in the middle of the pastor's message. Oh well. First major issue in the six years I've been doing this. At least I had the back-up running. Too bad I had a rookie technical director. After recovering from that, I spent much of yesterday pondering what to do with two days in the middle of western Ohio this weekend... Then ran trains with the youngest. Boy, that 520 runs well! Bob, I've enjoyed perusing http://wechoosethemoon.org

Good morning all,

It is foggy and cool in SE Indiana with temps in the 70s today.  Did not sleep well or get much of it last night.  Only good thing is that work should be fairly quiet today.  I had streusel and cereal on the dining car for breakfast this morning before sending it to "Points East".  "Extras" are headed to "Points West" to help with Jim's wife, and "Points Further East" for Brent and Susie-Q.  Also special run is going to Submmbob as well.  Debating whether to try a Southern shipment as well.  May try short hauls to SW Georgia (DWeimer) and Virginia (Patrick) before long haul to Roseyville.  Beacon is lit for after soccer practice.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Well the jeep ended up just being the distributor cap center contact going out. Was running a tad rough lately so I decided I'd pull the cap and check it out while I was there (this is prob one of the last vehicles built w/ a distributor). Cleaned up my spare since it looked to be the better of the two caps. Then fired right off. Thought it might have just not sat long enough, but the pressure checked out ok. Then sat at a friends later for 3 hours and still fired right off. I'll take an easy one right now.  I did treat it to 4 new plugs for being nice to me.

Ole Timer - always nice to see you and the cab forwards

Jon - looks like spankybirds SPF was checking out your bike wash

Off to start more tests in the morning. The great "zebra" hunt begins.

Happy 40th Anniversary of Neil and Buzz's little stroll BTW

Good evening everyone.  Quick stop by as it is time for bed.  Lots of action at church today, between two services and a meeting about scholarships for the Christian School that the church has.  Seems the state of Georgia has passed a law allowing folks to direct $2500 of their state income tax to a private school for a scholarship for kids who want to move to private from public schools.  Makes it easier for parents to have a choice where to send their kids.  Also allows for families with moderate means to be able to afford to send their kids to private school.

During lunch today, son lost his first tooth.  He had not wanted to let anyone mess with it, just let it fall out on its own.....it did, onto the floor of the restaurant we were eating at.  It was recovered for the visit of the tooth fairy tonight.

Jon, did not forget photos of progress on layout, just don't have the time right now to deal with it.  I will get them up though.

God Bless,

Dennis

Good evening all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 70s.  Took it easy today.  Saucy wench and I went to see "Harry Potter".  Train scenes were the best.  Found out will not be doing trains at local historical society this year at Christmas time.  Some how relieved taking a year off.  Did not sleep well last night.  Ate too late at Chili's.  Had streusel for breakfast/lunch.  Beacon is lit.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Afternoon All.

It has been nothing but hot here, seems like the a/c has been runnin a lot. Sad

Needless to say nothing getting done outside but I did finish up somemore work on the military loads. Close to finishing them. Thumbs Up Also did some surfing on the Bay, found an item that Chief needs for his layout:

Yes, I realize the driver is a bit thinner. Wink It would also need a scale sized Lucy to ride around with him. Big Smile

Got some family visiting that will be heading back east tomorrow, so today some of the old family comfort food is on the agenda, buttermilk fried porkchops, mashed taters, steamed vegies & buttermilk biscuits with chocolate cake for desert. Chef Dinner

Later all, Angel for those who are in need.

Good evening

70s today, rain all around us, I could almost touch it. But none here. Missed SP4449 as it was running to late for Charlie to make the trip. He will see her next weekend. Train show, what can I say, overpriced stuff that gets hauled from show to show. I did get a new Williams B unit for my CP F3s $100. He said B/W is raising prices again. So slowly the one brand that was affordable is going along with the others. Had my banilla but saved some for youse guys. Come on thingy...S.J.

Last week was busy.  A couple of long days at work, and helping the wife get ready for her last summer reading program that was last Wednesday.  By the time I sat down every night, I was bushed - usually ended up going to bed.

Took about an hour and a half to catch up on the Pot this afternoon.

Looks like there are improving outlooks on the various medical projects out there.  Continued prayers.

We had a couple of engineers from one of our plants in India visiting last week.  Interesting discussions. Just as interesting was trying to find sutable resturants with enough variety to accomidate their beefless and porkless diet in our booming metroplos of 20,000.  Needless to say the various BBQ places got crossed off of the list quickly.

This weekend has been just as busy.  Mowing, string trimming, etc., etc.  At least the weather is wonderful 70's with low humidity.  Even have a few roma tomatoes ripening.

Drove my wife to Columbia Saturday for her sewing class.  While she was in class, I stopped by Hobbytown USA.  They are in the final stages of a going out of business sale.  The owner was saying that he could not compete with on-line sales!?  Picked up some 027 track for half price.

Today is just as full.  Went to an afternoon show of OZ.  Kids play at the community theater.  Enjoyable show.  Looks like we will be catching the Harry Potter movie yet tonight too.

Later all.

Charlie - Hope ya get to see the #4449. Seeing her at night could be fun. We slept in our motorhome in the Phoenix Colisseum parking lot so we could get up in the wee hours of the morning to see her depart for the next stop. Then we chased her out of town. Dad recorded it. One of the runbys sounds pretty good, even for a cassette recorder from the mid 1970's.

Looks like the fuel pump and/or pressure regulator is going out in the jeep. Talk about timing. And my pressure tester is w/ one of our engineers who isn't answering his phone. Banged Head A buddy is going to drop his by later. It's not too bad of a job to drop the tank but I'll have to make sure I don't eat before I tackle this one. Pump assembly is like $250 alone. Ironically the original S.U pump for the MG is only $130 and a solid state one only $160. And I only need an empty jar to figure out whether one of those is working. New cars suck. As soon as the new engine in the B fires off the jeep is history.

Afternoon.  Went to Sunday School [taught as teacher gone].  Went to Lowe's and then Lowes Foods.  Stopped by Bojangles for a bite.  Hot and humid.  Did get a rug for living room while at Lowe's.  Now living room has rug in the middle and hardwoods around the rest of the room.  Headed to pond to Roundup and do some cable repairs.  Got neighbor's son to help [he's 17].  Trains later.
