Ole Timer---I remember the TD's they are even harder to find than the A's now. I don't know about the 1954 but some years had wood frames made of ash, and ya had to be carefful to make sure ya wern't buying one that had a rotten frame cause there was no way to fix that and it wasn't worth the powder to blow it to @#@#%..I got to ride in one once, they were fun little cars...Steve

Doug:  I have not been up to speed on the forum for a while and read your post about Tiedowns for Military equipment,  I have spent the best part of my youth in the Military and have collected many items over the years and I have a small book called Tiedown Handbook for Rail Movements and shows all Tiedown points for Military equipment.  If you would like it I will send it to you Free of Charge.

Big Brown stoped at my House on Tuesday with my new Atlas GE U-23B, It sure is a nice unit even in the TrainMaster price point.  Have not had a chance to test it out.  I will report back when I run it through some tests.

Hope all is well and prayers for all who need them.

Jon........I bet it was hard to vote using those rotary dial phones in Iowa.

Buckeye--it was difficult but we persevered Thumbs Up  What surprises me is that you have internet access in ohio but still use tin cans and string to make calls---what's up with that?  I thought for sure that you were ahead of Roseyville with phone connections Laugh

Boy those guys in Arkansas put it to the Californians tonight.  I suppose with the Shaken they have been taken, the the surfer boys had other things on their mind.  Of course, after their vote yesterday, maybe they turned off all the phones today.

Those tin cans conventiently camouflage our satellite phones that we use to call ET.  Alien  You can get one of the phones over at Wright Patterson where the bodies of the Martians are stored.  Oops, I wasn't supposed to talk about that. Blindfold

Lew,

Thanks for the offer but I was able to find a link on the net that I have been using to lashdown the various pieces of equipment. By the time I make some slight changes for fit it definitely wouldn't pass muster but it works for me. Unfortunately I'm still working on them, but will definitely be done by Jul 4th.

Chief, prayers for your wife.  I thought you were driving a Hoyt-Clagwell tractor?  Did you finally replace it?  Whistling  (see if anyone gets that one)

Doug, good luck on the move man - I hate moving desks, but this sounds like 100 times worse, lol!  Better you than me!

Neat telescope!

Brad nailer - I have a Porter-Cable and I mailed off and got the replacement safety trigger.  Now you have to engage the head and then pull the trigger.  Makes it easier to not accidently shoot too many brads, or shoot them where you don't want them!

Ray, follow the doctor's orders!  Mike, you can drive and we'll pick up Patrick first, then hit all the other beacons.  Banilla is ready and I think Jim is asleep, can hear him snoring?

Some good news and some bad news.  My wife is out of the hospital.  She has been diagnosed with a bone marrow condition and could take a while to get this stabilized.  2nd opinion on pathology should be in next week.  She's in good shape overall and so we are hopeful.

I think they are offering OT on Saturday?  I was also going to help a friend out with a patio fix - the one we built a couple years ago has some problems due to rain run-off.  Rain is predicted for Monday and I want to take the kids fishing too....  Hmmmm, too little time to do all the things I want to do.  Sounds like a normal weekend to me.  TTFN

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Site for Corn Boil..........

There are more also, not many have websites though.  If you were to google and look at the images you will see lots of them.

Doug M, Need your help here, you are familiar with them, yes??  Really, surprised Jon wasn't !

Good night all.  Agenda.  Run errands I did not get to yesterday [as after midnight].  Then hit the road to lake house.  Do hope Wifey can make it.  She was good and then worse again.  That has gone on all day.  She says she will go to wirk tomorrow, Dr. at 11:30 and then to lake house.  Hope her plan works.  Did get pond fertilizer [and dropped off squash for Miss Edna as I passed by] and get two bags in pond.  Water is really clear and needs some color and darkning.  Went to sleep during the first hour of Criminal Minds and slept through the second hour. Banged Head  Sure did not feel that tired.  Off to bed.

Glad to see all those posting and new guys too.  As I said earlier, summer is usually slower as everyone is outside.  Especially the Yanks as the snow finally melts. Wink

Brutus, the bone marrow thing does not sound good.  Prayers for her and her future.  Keep us posted.

Off to bed.  God bless all.

Chief, Brutus - prayers for your wives.

I'm suprised at the amount of combined experience this group has with Brit. cars.  They are fun playthings.  I always carried a spare set of points with me in my Spitfire.  I remember one road ralley I drove it in that the other competitors helped me get it started a couple of times when it stalled in the wet.  Ended up in second or third place on that one.  Surprised me - and the people who had helped me out!  U joints in the swing axle were a weak point.  I got pretty good at changing them out.  And the endearing tailing throttle oversteer that rear suspension would produce........

LS1 vs (name your favorite 60's engine here).  Modern technonogy does wonders.  Reasonably quick cars that get reasonable gas milage too.  I think it was Jay Lenno who said that the old muscle cars are neat, fun to drive, make all the right sounds, but you will probably get beaten by the kid with the whizbang, turbo'd, nitro'd, compact with the drive wheels on the wrong end.

Good Morning from Beautiful Southern Ohio

It was beautiful out today.  Sunny and with a nice breeze.  I swaped from days to nights to cover for another supervisor who needed a couple days off.  IT has been busy tonight.

Don - Youngest daughter was in LA adn felt your latest earthquake, her first experience with earthquakes.

Jim F & Chief - continued prayers for your brides

Wes - the advantage of moving is being forced into another layout, and not making the same mistakes you did on the previous ones.

Well, back to work.

May God bless

Jim

Morning folks. Beautiful day here again in northeastern Illinois. Welcome Lew from Enola! A great place. There are still corn boils here, like Don said, more west of us in a slightly more rural part of the state, usually combined with a fish fry. The bride made it into Chicago after 2 and 1/2 hours in the car yesterday - took us an hour to get home. Funny how after parking and dinner, our symphony experience was up around $90. That's the city for you. No plans for today -bride sleeping in whilst I get the kids off to  school.  Oh, there's work of course.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s.  Played soccer twice last night.  Once at the YMCA with the Brazilian and another kid, and later on with "my" soccer girls.  Some of the "alums" came back and played as well.  I was tired.  Slept well.  I had the regular fare on the dining car this morning before it was off to "Points East".  I have to mow the yard tonight.  Beacon is lit.  I hope everyone has a good day.  Brutus and Chief, prayers going out for the better halfs.

Keep on training,

Good Morning from the Soggy StateBanged Head....day 4 and I’m pretty sure the drought here is over...we’ve had 5.62” of rain since Monday night.  I’m sure I’ve had enough here.  The customer appreciation days at the HD dealership have been cancelled due to the rain, so it looks like my weekend has cleared up, no free lunch/dinner or bike show and if it continues to rain, I’ll be home bound.  Guess I’ll work on the train room......Smile,Wink, & Grin

Had baked ham steaks with scalloped potatoes for dinner last night and had to run out to Target and CVS with the wife for some stuff.  Of course, we made the obligatory stop at Wally World, so I didn’t get to be until after 11 PM – so I’m really tired reveille is at 0500 during school days.....0630 when it isn’t.  I’m looking forward to summer vacation and riding the HD into work every morning...until the blistering weather comes.

As for the weather, about 70 now and pouring.  The wind has died down a bit.  Work has slowed to a crawl, for a nice breather.

On the cars, I’m Mopar or no car, so you know.  My ’70 roadrunner convertible is on hiatus in NJ.  I just had an offer from a Chevy guy.  I told him a fair price would be $90K, or 3 of his ‘70’s era big block Corvettes and 2 of his ’68-69 Camaros.  And even then I’d be giving him my car.  I don’t think he thought I was funny (and I was serious...!).  I’m just trying to get the energy to build my ’73 Satellite (360/727/8.25), so if any of  you want give me a try after it is done....DinnerWhistling

Back to trains....if the weekend is a washout, I’ll probably build shelves for the rolling stock...and I have plenty right now.

Til later...!

Morning.  Off to run errands and then lake house.  Wifey went to worky.  Then Dr. and home to pack for lake house.  She was still having some problems.

Pond fertilizer is 20-20-5 [some are stronger but you use less volume].  Causes alge bloom.  Trick is, you do not want too much bloom at one time.  Then it dies and eats up the desolved O2.  Fish kill.  Want it to turn slowly and makes water dark.  I usually start before now.  So much rain, water is now clear.  Clear water causes grass to grow.  I do have grass carp to eat it but need to darken it.  The alge then feeds the tiny things that the little fish live off of and the little fish feed the bigger fish that feed the big fish.

Spitfire had grease fittings at the rear axle bearing and they went one time.

DSpanky, looking good on the arches.

Thanks for the prayers.

Hope all have a great day and coming holiday.  Later.

Spank,

Are you going to paint the masonite?

Haven't had many chances to post lately.  Between my job, fishing, and the postwar layout, I have been busy.  I went a little overboard on accessories though!Big Smile I also bought another 3656 cattle car on Sunday.

On the car front, if it didn't come out of Ford's plant in Flat Rock, MI, I don't want it. I made the mistake of buying a Sunfire, and I wil never, ever buy a gm product again.  It already has a rod knock at only 76,744 miles. Total garbage IMHO.

Chief,

Do you realize how lucky you are to have a pond? I am very jealous.  I have been working a stream at a local park for the past few weeks.  I found another park that has a 258 acre fishing lake, so I'll probably check it out this weekend.

Steve ... no the MG-TD did'nt have a wooden frame ... she did have a straight pipe for the exhaust ... could'nt find a muffler and tailpipe for it back then . The local police let me slide on all the noise ... LOL . Of course you have to remember funds also were few and far between for me then too . Have you seen the value on them ? Lord I could retire in france for what they're worth now ... way beyond that $ 450.00 I sold her for ..... Banged Head . My kids can't believe what low to nothing prices cars sold for back then . And NO before the wise cracks start from some of you .... Henry Ford did not have the only dealership for Ford as my sons tease me asking . lol .

The Green Acres Tractor was a Hoyt-Clagwell. Do I get an extra turn driving the Tardis?Mischief

Don - As I said before, you are never to old to learn. I guess we did lead a sheltered life. Checked out google on the Corn Boil. Besides the Sugar Grove IL one, I also found one in Clinton IA.Blush Maybe we will have a Corn Boil for the family gathering this weekend, only set a canning pot on one of the grills.

Good Afternoon Y'all!  Ah the south, it is great here, even with all the rain.  Married a Southern Bell, and now I can never go back north (except to visit).  Have had some nice offers to start programs, etc, but she will have nothing to do with moving above the MD line.

Got both the camera and the Atlanta and West Point car yesterday.  Unfortunately, the box car has a destroyed truck.  I have had this happen to other K-Line cars I have gotten.  I emailed the auction place, but have not heard back from them.  Last time, the Train-Station sent me two new Lionel trucks as they didn't have any K-Line.  Looks and works fine.  This is with ChooChoo, so we shall see.  Charles seems like a good guy to deal with.

Was a long day as we had some pretty big cases.  New guy is away at a meeting, so it makes my day longer.  Anyway, we got it all done and I will be heading home.  Hope that everyone is having a good week.  Brutus, prayers for wife.  Glad they have it narrowed down.  Hope they are able to get things under control and your wife back to top shape soon.  Chief, hope Miss Pam gets back to her old self soon too.
God Bless,
Dennis

You would be welcome. Always have bush hogging to do. Maybe load up some calfs and take them to market as well? Pick up the Chief on your way, and I will see if Spank is available. We may find time to have a foursome for golf, after chores are done of course. I promise - no Grits for you for breakfest!

Might even have time for some train time! Big Smile

Nice "A" Is that a 58? Has the hole in the bumper so you can crank start it. My Dads had that as well.

Looks like the VW transformer on the baysold for $53.00. I knew I should have bid on itSad

There are still corn boils here, like Don said, more west of us in a slightly more rural part of the state, usually combined with a fish fry.

Needless to say a corn boil must be a take off of the fish boils held in Door County, Wisconsin every summer.  We have some major sweet corn festivals and the boil the corn, but we do not call them a corn boil.

Just return from a date with Mrs. Buckeye.  Took her to the open house of the local water reclamation facility.  Although they had toosie rolls for snacks, we decided to eat at the local Amish resturant.  I know, I know, I'm putting you guys all to shame for taking my wife out on such an exotic date.

Tomorrow is TGIF and we had a three day weekend.  Whoop, Whoop, Whoopee!!!

Fine day about 80 here today.  Going to Hobart to visit the oldest son and his wife this weekend.  I'll make a good attempt to watch the 500 on his big screen.  Not sure how well that will go over though.

Not much on the train front, other than to update the train inventory computer file with my last few aquisitions.

Chief, that pond of yours seems to need upkeep like a swimming pool.  I always thought that Mother Nature would take care of such things.
