Good morning from Central PA,

Well I survived the Holiday.  Last evening was a challenge!  I had the job of keeping track of the 3, 5 & 7 year old girls while the adults and older boys played dominos for a couple of hours.  The kids keep telling me "that is what grandpas are for" Big Smile [:D]  Those girls are just like a bunch of energizer bunnies.  Of course it didn't help that every time the Christmas train made a lap they had to have another piece of chocolate candy.  One big sugar high.

Taking Jean to our local jewelers open house tonight to pick out her Christmas present.  Here is where she makes up for all my train purchases over the year.  Luckily she doesn't have a clue how much I actually spend.Wink [;)]

Hope John gets back on line shortly.

All enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Good morning to all and a belated Happy Thanksgiving.  Yesterday we had dinner with family down in Maryland.  This is the first Thanksgiving my brother and I ever remember not having dinner with my parents.  My folks are still in FL with my sister and BIL waiting for the OK to bring Brian back to Maryland.  They are spending the holiday with friends of BIL in Niceville Fl which I presume is in the panhandle area.

I watched this video link which I saw on the yahoo toy trains group.  Thought I would post it here. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8209519835705726236&q=lionel+trains.  Neat video but you most likely need a high speed connection to watch it.

Have mostly completed the repairs to the 2025 that went crashing to the floor a few weeks back.  Still need to fix the drawbar truck on the tender.  If I finish I may post some pictures on Sunday.  It doesn't look too bad so far.  That titanium epoxy my brother gave me really did the trick.  Might have to do a little touch up as some of the gray showed through on the repaired boiler.

Well I better get moving.  The Mrs. gave me a list of chores to complete before she gets home from her shopping ecxpedition.  Don't want to get in hot water with the Boss.

Take care,

Mitch

Big 10-4 on that.  I just got back from buying the diamond ring Pam wanted.  Nice big stone in the middle and one small one on each side.Shock [:O]  [$$$$$$$$$, Apitz would have a heart attack Wink [;)]]  Now if the Big Boy does not come until after Jan 1, I'll be OK, as then I will have tobacco allotment check. Morning.  Started out cool.  Now so hot you can NOT wear a jacket.  Shirt sleeve weather.  Got all the trim painted [doors and windows included] last night.  Up till midnight.  Now, it has to have a second coat [had ivory trim before].  Dries fast so hope to hang blinds right behind the painting [will re-do windows first].  Went to Lowe's and got big Rubbermaid type tubs for $4 each.  Will pack all those cars in the middle of the track in those [wrapped in bubble wrap].  Then Pam will use the tubs to re-store her decorations after Chirstmas and I will have room for the rolling stock on layout [I hope].  Tubs will go under layout.

Afternoon all!

Happy Black Friday for those of you foolish enough to venture out!

Mitch - thanks for the link. I have that one on videotape. Great shots of the Lionel factory and the 1949 showroom layout in action. Did you note all the product testing?

Great day yesterday. Just our immediate family this year. Lots o' turkey and then homemade pumpkin and chocolate pies.

Watching my alma mater Texas A&M vs Texas. Amazing how well they are doing so far. Stopping Texas at the goal line on their opening drive was impressive.

Did any of you see the new Nissan commercial where the various school icons are chasing the pickup and part way through a giant boulder comes down. If you look the boulder is a giant Buckeye for you OSU fans! Cool!

Have a great day all!

Jim,

I will be interested to hear what problems you have with IE7. I prevented the upgrade as I had heard others like Buckeye had problems, but no one caught my post a couple of days ago to see if things were any better or not.

I wonder what the build number is on Buckeye's copy that downloaded - they might have updated it since them. Firstly, the message window is now abou the size of a pack of cigarettes instead of a 3 x 5 card or whatever it was before. Dont' like that at all.

Hmmmm.... Can't drag and paste a picture.

<img src="http://webpages.charter.net/jwf123/Good%20dog%202.JPG" border="0" />

But I can use the html img commands okay....

Well - it works in the preview window but is broken on the webpage. This stinks.

I'll try it for a while and see. Maybe they'll fix it. In trying to drag the pic, when you release it, IE intercepts and shows it in a blank window instead of feeding it through to the CTT page. I will have to look and see if I can find a way to bypass that.

Got mine today as well.  Yes it is early, not even December yet.  Maybe they get tired of the complaints about late delivery.  Haven't looked at it yet.  I also got a Scenic Express catalog in todays mail.

It is a good thing I didn't go to Barry's today.  The UPS guy dropped of a package from Bob Thatcher, a 4 pack of Atlas Lackawanna reefers that I ordered back on the 3rd of May.  I keep a list but hadn't looked at it for a while, so forgot they were coming.  It said November delivery so they were on time.

Jim, someone posted some pointers on IE7 a week or so ago.  You need to change some settings to make it work correctly.  Don't remember the details.  I have been saying no when I get the upgrade notification.

Chief,  We are back from the jewelers.  Jean is happy, I am not in to much pain, so it was a good evening.  She is aware of two items that were purchased but I slipped one by her that the owner put aside instead of putting back in the case.  I think she will be surprised.

To be nice weather tomorrow.  I may finish up winterizing the pond tomorrow, or at least make a good start on it.  This is a really unusual fall.  Still have geraniums and roses blooming.

Have a nice weekend.

Good evening all,

It is dark and mild in SE Indiana as the temps were in the 60s today.  I worked my tail off today.  I got the housework done, washed and waxed the truck and the PT Cruiser, went to the YMCA, cleaned up several of my stacks of items that I tend to let accumulate in the house, and did some errands as well.  I am tired.  "Close to Home" and "NUMB3RS"  are both on tonight.  I like "Close to Home" because it is based in INDIANA, which if it is not God's country, it should be.  Lucas is over at his girlfriend's grandparent's place, meeting her dad's side of the family.  It sure was a beautiful day, weather-wise here today.  I hope everyone had a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

What a beautiful day it was here too in northeastern Illinois! I was putting up Christmas lights in a t-shirt. I don't ever remember doing that. Even raked a few errant leaves. The tree is up and lit - ornaments on tomorrow. All the other Christmas stuff is out - except for all the buildings on my layout ( I never learn )... I try to delay their borrowing as much as possible. Took the bride to see the new movie Deja Vu - wasn't too bad except Denzel Washington is an indestructible as a super hero - and there are a few N. Orleans trolley shots in it. I realized I hadn't been to the movies in a long time - don't miss the crowds or the expense. Still babysitting some visiting teen-agers. Hopefully off to bed soon.

Morning all. Right now I'm using IE7 and it doesn't work very well with this forum. I'm thinking about downloading Firefox2. I'm no computer expert, but I would like to try it. Anyone else here use Firefox? If so, how do you like it?

Thanks, Stan.

Good morning from a gradually dawning northeastern Illinois where it is supposed to be in the 50s again. Yippee! I don't care for seasonal weather.

Stan, I use Safari which the forum software tolerates, and IE 6 which is probably what this software was configured for... Firefox is very nice, as it is gained a bit of market share, you have to remember to patch it too.

Going to breakfast at the local diner with the guys in a bit: have to remember to drop off Train magazines that are due at the library (i've been catching up on their past six months). Then decorate the tree. I think the bride is going to insist I move a beloved plastic light-up Santa bequeathed to me by a neighbor that is prominently displayed on our lawn this year - made in America in 1968 by the Empire Plastic Company of NY.

Morning all, Jim I hope that ear problems better. We had an interesting Thanksgiving at which Asherah was a very well behaved star of the show (her parents, as usual, were the opposite...) she made a Turkey center piece and napkin rings and sang and danced too. Not bad for a 4 yr old!  It was a happy time for me because my wife's mother, aunt and uncle - they're all Jewish - attended and not only hadn't HAD a proper Thanksgiving before but said it was the best time they could remember. We all sang songs and told stories I havent enjoyed myself so much since I was a kid when that was the normal behaviour at gatherings, before TV ruled the roost.

Amongst the stories I told was of how magnificent model railway control systems used to be, does anyone elese remember vast control panels with the whole layout painted in white lines on a black fascia with knobs and switches thereon to control turnouts, signals, uncouplers and so forth?  The best I ever saw was a cousins whose dad had it professionally built, it even had proper rodding running along the tracks to the turnouts and back to a sale signal box with a real working lever frame with full interlocks!  The control console was in a U shape, you sat in the middle of it and the sight of all those glowing indicators and the hum and buzz of relays - this was in the late 50's - made the console more interesting than the trains.

It was a Marklin stud contact HO layout running Marklin and Trix which allowed two locos to be under independent control on any given block, all the turnouts had lanterns that turned when the blades changed position and the signals were linked to it properly too. You could uncouple a loco from a train anywhere remotely and do really intricate shunting without needing to touch anything by hand. I've never forgotten that layout and always wanted to emulate that Star Trek like control console.

I can never remember exactly who said what, where, so dont be offended if I havent remembered to ask after you, I hope all your concerns are being met and I hope you too all had a holiday worth giving thanks for. Reading this forum which is by far the best, one is constantly reminded how fortunate we all are to share this great hobby and have a group of people to exchange and share it with. I'm off to TrainLand - yippee!

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cold 27 degrees. Sunny. Going up to 60 today with sunshine. I could get used to this kind of weather. Yesterday, was up to 70.

Today, I have a few things to do around the house. I may run out to the local store for a few things. Maybe shopping traffic will be lighter. Got all the trees decorated outside and tried them out last night. Look great.

I may run trains for awhile, this afternoon. Need to keep working on the layout. I want to start the roads and town.

Well, off to the Dining Car for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Saturday.

For what's it's worth:

I have deleted IE from my computer, absolutely worthless.

Safari works well except on this forum, I don't get it.

Firefox works great on this forum and I'm told it's much more secure than other browsers. That being said, this forum software still has it's own "unique" personality, hardly state of the art.

Hope everyone survived Turkey Day, and had a good time.  Things were realy busy out here!  Didn't get to the 3 Stooges films, but did accomplish a lot.....
- Had a wonderful dinner,
- Put up a temporary layout
- Did some caulking on the new room, minor touch up stuff
- Put up outside decorations, lights, Santa & reindeer on roof, yard items
- A little Christmas shopping
Overall a really great time!

Jeff - When are you going to post a picture or two of the new T-1, and other new stuff?

Doug - I know its not funny, but that has been one of my concerns that our son would come in saying Dad just look at what I WON on ebay.  Hopefully the seller would understand and resubmit the item, be interesting to hear how it unfolds.

Jeff & Chief - Your wives would really enjoy the Jewelry Mart here in LA.  It is downtown and takes up about 3 city blocks.  The buildings are old department stores and inside is literally hundreds of individual businesses.  Each person owns his own counter and they are filled with trinkets.  The upper floors are filled with office suites, and they consist of independent operators as well.  The pricing is all wholesale, and their are some really good deals.  My wife and I go up there once every year or so.  It takes a full day, and is really mesmerizing by the time your done.  Parking is like $8 per hour.  But is well worth it.  One of our customers is a gem broker, we usually go up and pick out a stone, then go to another specialist and pick or design a setting.  Then different place for the box or whatever.   Really an interesting event.

Mitcheir - Congrats on your repair job!!!!  That's great news.  Looking forward to seeing the pictures.

Thor- Liked the story of the Control Panel, I plan on incorporating one just for nostalgia, and some of the older stuff.

Today, were going to wire up the buildings on the temp layout.  Wife is hosting the Christmas Bunko party so Chris and I want the train room looking good.  Then we will start our permanent layout after the first of the year.

A couple of pics of our progress....

Not much, but a start.  And a lot of fun!  Going to teach Chris all the wiring, and let him do it.

Enjoy the rest of the week-end !

Morning all!

Cloudy here and supposed to hit 70. Off in a bit to daughter's HS playoff game today. Second round. They are facing a tough team with a long history of winning in playoffs. We lost to them last year so this may be it again this year.

Don - great that you are moving with your layout. Let's see - you have built an addition to your house and now you have some benchwork up and where is the Chief on this????????

Have a great day all!
