Howwwdeee, If I may use the words of Minnie Pearl, showing my age I guess. Beautiful weather of late but it do make the kitchen a tad warm with the cookin. Corn bread out of the oven and cooling for tomorrow's turkey & stuffing, starting the bread dough later so it can be in the fridge and ready to go tomorrow. Chef [C=:-)] Dinner [dinner]

Don't know how anybody can handle the traffic in SoCal on a daily basis, if I was still commuting the 30 miles I used to I'd be in an asylum permanently.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone !!!!!!

Good evening,

The forum is really picking up in activity.  In the prox 24 hours since I checked in last I sure had a lot to read.

A happy Thanksgiving to everyone.

We will be having 14 for dinner tomorrow so we will have a lot of activity as there will be 6 kids from one month to 13 years.

Dr. John, Post a picture of the Christmas layout when finished.

Chief, Glad the rain caused no damage.  It is now coming our way.

I read so much, now I can't remember much.

Now I remember, Congratulations Don on getting everything approved.  Now you are ready to build the layout.  Have fun.

Happy Thanksgiving to Everyone in the Lower 48 , Canada, the United Kingdom and Beyond!

John: You are right about the road between Seward and "Los Anchorage" in the summer it can really be a zoo. Of course Anchorage is just a big old city and has all the same problems of every other city any place else. Yes, everyone in Alaska does has a camper . . . but me! I just can't bring myself to buy a camper. I am still a tent kind of guy and if the weather really blows maybe the back of a suburban! My kids would rather have the RV but one day they will thank me for all the tenting they did in the rain. (The think it like being a Patrick McManus story.)

Don: The tax you was on the ballot in the September elections. The vast majority of the revenues generated by the tax will go right back into the cruise infra-structure in the port communities where the cruises dock. It will go toward keeping the docks up to date and safe, community roads, even a sidewalk or two. I also think some of the $ will fund the environmental monitoring process along the Alaskan coastline. We have more coastline than the rest of the US. Believe it or not the cruise ships can (and does) have a negative impact on the Alaskan coastal region. Fishing and subsistance use/rights to harvest will always win out over tourism in Alaska.

The only real  economic infusion from the cruise industry is felt in the coastal towns, Anchorage, McKinley Park, and here in Fairbanks. No other folks really benefit from cruise dollars. So the measure passed and that is why there is an increase in cruise prices. If you are a tour operator you voted against it and most everyone else voted for it. I have to say I voted for it so I guess I am guilty along with all the other Sourdoughs that voted for it. Guilty as charged. It will be interesting to see if the added cost hurts the tourism industry because of it.

Laz: I did not realize there were that many bears in your part of the woods. Nice! As for the muzzelloading there are a lot of guys into that here in Alaska. It really makes hunting more challenging that is for sure. As for me, I would just as soon have my finger on the trigger of a Winchester 30-06 (or even bigger) if there is a brown bear at the other end of my peep site.

Christmas layout comes out of storage this weekend and get pressed into service! Should be fun– at least for me it will be fun!

Have safe travels everyone, don't over do the eating, remember to help someone who needs a hand, keep the trains running on time, and have a great Thanksgiving!

Roy, Buckeye says, "NO" on 7.0.  It tried to install itself the other night and I hit cancel.  Rechecked with Buckeye and he says, "NO".

Itching to start building.  Ran the 2065 again tonight for a long run.  Big Smile [:D]

Hello All!    Don- Congrats on all of your accomplishments-now you can start your layout & have a loop for the 1688!Clown [:o)]Smile [:)]Clown [:o)] Chief- pretty soon your 2065 will have 50 years of running time on it with all of the time you've had it on the track lately.Wink [;)]Wink [;)]Tongue [:P] Making up for lost time,eh?Tongue [:P] John B- I remember Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In as a kid. Their show is now on DVD here in the State's. Hi GIZ,

Just got done running trains and NO pile ups.  Great nite.   Me and my girl, JANE DOG,  ran them for 3 hrs., no pile ups.

AKKEVIN, yes we do have our share of black bears here but you have the GRIZZLES there.  I don't know if I want to switchWink [;)].   Had lots of encounters while backpacking in NY and California(kings canyon area) these blackies can get real mean sometimes.  In a short story me and my wife swam out of it ok, in both places.  Thank GOD.

I'll be up at MOMs til Monday so all YUZ GIZ have a very good THANKSGIVING and don't forget, no matter how much you eat, get out and take a nice walk fo 30 minutes.  It will do you good.  If not at least it will get you away for everyone.

Hope everyone has a good one.

Kevin, I really appreciate your comments, and fully support the concept.  We were on a cruise a couple of years ago there and a lady fell on a gang plank, of course the paramedics came, police, etc..  Those services do have costs associated, and shouldn't be born by the local residents.  I appreciate the beauty of the state it is truly a insightful experience just visiting there.  Looking forward to visiting again, even though it is only a surface level exposure.  Not the first time I've been guilty of....

Thanks all for the support of our room getting done!

Hope EVERYONE has a peaceful Day

Happy Thanksgiving, y'all!

After I get off line I'll head out to the barn and finish building a stand for the Christmas Tree to be set on.  It'll become "Christmas Mountain".  In addition to the tree there is a shelve (ledge) for several small ceramic houses before going down to floor level where the main group of houses will set and the loop of track will weave it's way around the tree and into the sun room.  If we get home at a reasonable hour, going over friends for dinner this afternoon, I guess we'll start pulling decoration out of storage and putting things up.

Yesterday evening I finally, I hope, finished the kitbashed station for the client.  Its his recollections using what is still existant of the SAL station here in Athens.  I'm just glad I'm not the one paying for it.  Looks like this project may continue on into next year, every time I think the end is in sight he changes his mind about something or wants something more.  For example, I made a small toggle switch panel with 9 switches for lights, I've already changed the connections and lables 3 times and will be doing it again tomorrow.  There have been few items that this has not occured.

I hope that those of you in the construction phase of your layouts are more decisive than he.  Chief should have no problem since he's been in the planning stages for so long. (Couldn't resist the dig of a fellow REB)

Happy Thanksgiving from a sunny and mild northeastern Illinois where we're just hosting another family and their kids - with other friends coming over for dessert later. No family - thank goodness. The bride has been planning for today for weeks - the table shines, there's food everywhere, and I just have to putter around and stay out of the way - well, I cleaned up the basement and tried to figure out how I screwed up my wiring.

Roger, I hope you charge for 'change orders'.

I've been looking for an O gauge Toonerville trolley for months and today one popped up - maybe I'll be able to afford it.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING GIZ,

CHIEF,  with all those GRITS that you ate you won't be playing with trains for a while, you'll be too busy on the can getting rid of emWink [;)].

All have a great time feasting today and remember the BIG GUY upstairs, give him thanks for all we have.

Also get out and remember to take a walk after eating.  It only takes 20 minutes and you'll feel better.

DON, good luck on the construction of the layout.

Have a good one.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!!!!

Just as Chuck said, I am thankful for everyone here on the forum. You guys have been so nice, and were very welcoming when I first joined.

Today we will have some family over, and tomorrow, my cousins from Kentucky will be coming here. I was supposed to meet Buckeye tomorrow, but I just found out that the cousins were coming when I got his email.

Doug - darn right I do.  They've probably cost him at least 3 days extra charges and extended the project that many weeks, I work at his house only on Fridays.

Finished the table/stand for the Christmas Tree, time to start getting ready to head out to friends for dinner, MMMMMMM!

Have a safe and enjoyable day all.

Good evening,

Had a great Thanksgiving here, hope all of you have had the same.

Spent some time holding & rocking the 3-1/2 week old granddaughter.

Had way to much to eat.  Things have settled down a little bit & BTW the Christamas train with the candy cars was a hit with the younger ones.  I just realized the the Christmas car that I rigged with the string of miniture LED lamps from Lemax was still turned on.  Has been on for about 8 hours and still bright using a pair of AA cells.  Probably had that many hours before today.

Laz, Guess I will visit Barry's tomorrow to see what is on sale.  Don't have a lot left in my train budget after the T-1 & with the stuff I have preordered from MTH, Weaver & Atlas.

Enjoy the rest of the day.

Just got home from visiting for Thanksgiving dinner.  We had turkey with all the fixin's with pecan and pumpkin pie for dessert.  Your's truely had to do the carving, seems none of the younger set have learned the art.  Since the woman whose house we were over is alone the leftovers get to go home with family and friends, we got half of the pies that were left, here comes the start of the extra weight for the holidays.

Hope ya'll had a enjoyable day with relatives and friends.

Oink Oink, what a day. The company is all gone, the last of the dirty dishes are in the dishwasher so it is time to sit with my coffee and check the board. Hope everyone had a great day with family and friends.

John, In your visits to Barry's have you ever seen the Presidential Overton by MTH ? I've been looking around and haven't found any available anywhere. That would be a good addition to the AT&SF Overton's I have on order.

Tomorrow should be a crazy day at the museum, the kids club is running the layout all day.

Take care and play safe

An early good morning from a dark and cool northeastern Illinois where my youngest has decided to wake up before the sun. So he's watching PBS (who knew Fred Rogers was still on TV - now that's a trolley!) and I'm deciding whether it's worth it to go out and get the newspaper from the front of the driveway. Had a nice relaxful T'giving with all the trimmings and beautiful weather - although my bride gave away half our leftovers to our guests - for shame! Late last night after cleaning up, my daughter informed me she won something on eBay and would I help her pay for it -- one of young guests helped her set-up an account. I was /am not happy. Oh well. Something to figure out this morning - today and tomorrow we put up the Christams decorations while avoiding the stores. Have a good day!
