Good evening,

Very nice day here. Just came down to the basement to work on trains a little.

My youngest grandson (11) is into drums. Has a set in his bedroom. Not sure how long it will last. He switches interests pretty fast at this age.

Chuck, Glad to hear you are doing so well.

Have a good evening.

No Sodoku for me, however, I will do the occasional crossword. Used to do the crossword every day then I found this forum. No time for crosswords[;)][;)][;)].

More to Resore - I know what you mean about the glasses. I can see nothing without mine. Too bad you will have to start over. I used a liquid stripper to strip the 248. Nasty smell, but it worked pretty well. As the paint loosened, I used an old toothbru***o help get the paint off. I have a 655 that the person painted orange. I'd like to take off the orange and leave the original paint. Keith/1688 torpedo mentioned the he had a friend who used a product called Simple Green which is a concentrated biodegradeable cleaner to strip paint. I might give it a try once I fini***he 248. I think I am going to wait until a big train show in 2 weeks to pick up the paint and some trim parts, that way I will save on shipping. Of course I might buy the kit from a guy on ebay that sells all the brass and nickel trim parts.

Ha ve good night.

Evening everyone.
Got a nice call from the Chief tonight. Sounds like he is doing well, even though he is stuck in yankeeland at the airport. Its a conspiracy I tell ya, they just don't want to let him go![oX)] Anyway, I married the greatest woman, she bought me the custom passenger set from the Train Station. Went to church back where we used to live today and afterwords had a nice lunch with the pastor who is a friend of ours. We went to the Hobby Town there and bought some plasticville structures and a foam cutting knife so that I can start on scenery once I get the benchwork done.
Well, have a good night and a great week ahead.

John,

Did you ever go to the old park at Euclid Beach? I believe it is long gone now.

Had this great airplane ride that swung you out over the lake. A huge roller rink/dance hall (At least it seemed huge to me as a kid!) and a wooden racing roller coaster (dual coaster). A real relic of the 20's/30's with classic architecture, etc.

I also think they had this big wooden coaster where the cars left the tracks and went into big wooden tubes - really cool!

Had some great times on the lake.

Roy, They tore down Euclid Beach years ago. Replaced it with condos. The Racing Derby
is now at Cedar Point, I believe. I used to love to go to Euclid Beach Park on Friday nights.

Hello All! Roy- We used to go to Euclid Beach every summer until it went out of business in 1969. I was too small to ride most of the rides then. However, I did go on some of the small kiddie rides they had & I went into the Laff-in-the-Dark which was a U-shaped tunnel that was haunted with monsters that would pop out of doorways & try to scare you. I went in there with my Sister at the time.( She would have been about 12 & I was 4 ) And I was so scared that I was trying to hide low in the seat from all of the Scary Goons that were popping out from behind doors & my Sister was laughing at me for being so scared then. I also remember the Fun House with Laughing Sal in front of it & also remember the Racing Coasters as well. The Coaster with the wooden tubes was called the "Flying Turns" . What years were you in Cleveland Roy? Those were fun times though.

Note the rocket ship ride. This was scratch built by one of our members.

John and Chuck,

We would be up there visiting family in Akron (my grandmother, etc.) each summer from mid 50's through late 60's.

I found a web site on Euclid Beach (Actually there are several). The thing I called the airplane ride was actually a Buck Rogers style rocket ship. That ride was so cool. I had also forgotten the name the "Flying turns" and that the cars were actually small airplane looking things. The rumble as you sped through those tubes and up onto the tube walls was scary and fantastic for a kid.

http://pweb.netcom.com/~sultnwoz/page12.htm

The flying scooters was also a cool ride because you could steer the thing with that big rudder.

Re the racing coasters, I have my folks old 8mm home movies. There is this great clip where my brother and I sat at the front of one train and my sister and dad sat at the rear of the other. He filmed the ride. The film shakes like crazy and makes me laugh everytime I see it.

Roy - those are great sites. Our local hobby shop has a video of Euclid Beach Park. I have not watched it yet.

I also went there many times as I only lived a few miles from it.

Roy ; Conn. lake still has the flying scooter ride, & I rode it yesterday. They used to have the rocket ride which was my favorite when I was a kid, & Geauga park had it too, but neither has it now. Someone made an automobile out of one, & it was at the Crawford museum in Cleveland, & may still be there. I used to go to Euclid Beach Park too ! Boy, those were the days !! Morning to all

Concealed weapon question

I purchased a 10-inch hunting/survival knife from Harbor Freight. I'm not using it as a weapon; rather, I need it when I get tangled in brush with BB the beagle rabbit chasing, since I have to let her run on a leash.

I plan to conceal it under my shirt.

Is there some type of law against this? I'm concealing it b/c the neighbors will throw hissy fits if they see the knife dangling from my belt.

Thanks!

Dave I saw the news about the derailment in Israel, was it on one of the lines you rode? I always hate to hear such things.
Hope everyone has a good one.

HI GIZ,
58 and beautiful day here, to get to 72.
Ran 5.75 this morning and lifted for 30 minutes, felt great not to have any kidos.
Got to do grass this morn and then work in the ponds.
Went and got a pressurized filter system for the pond.
Needed this because of all the fish I have.
If anyone wants these gold fish come to Millersburg and you can have em.
The last two years I have given away at least 300 to friends and another 200 to the golf course. I need some thing to start eating them. Tried turtle but they only can eat so much.

Ran trains on Saturday night for brother and friend for about two hours all ran great.
My MOHAWK from TAS is great. Love the smoke, cough cough!

DEADWOOD started last nite and timed till the first curse word and it was at 22 seconds. WOW!!! The another 1 minute and 42 sec for their biggest descriptive words of local folk. Sounds like another good season? Hope it is better then the SOPRANOs?

All have a good one?

Good morning from a cool and sunny Chicago. I grew up going to Rye Playland in NY - an old amusement park with great old rides- like a 'steeplechase' merry-go-round that gets up to 35 mph. it's the inspiration for the 'Electric Park' on the layout. Lots of traction lines created 'destinations' - picnic grounds, dance halls, and amusement rides. I wonder what the genesis of Euclid Beach was? Have a great day!

Morning. #^*~ Yankees must own US Airways [even though they are headquartered in Charlotte NC]. [;)] Plane had problems leaving Charlotte to come to Cincinnati to pick us up. Had to be repaired first. Then got to Cincinnati 1 1/2 hurs late. Charlotte shut down due to Tstorms [which we would have made it if plane on time], 3 hours late getting to Charlotte, rushed us to immediately board flight to RDU, taxi out and RDU shuts down due to storms. Sat for 45 minutes. No food for 12 hours as Cincinnati US Airways terminal does not have food past security and they told us not to leave the gate. No time to get food in Charlotte due to rush. Got in 4 hours late. To top it off, none of the Cincinnati/Charlotte/RDU bags made it. Really felt sorry for young couple with little girl 1 yr. old. Man, she was tried and they had run out of food for her. US Airways at RDU had to gvie them a loaner car seat so they could go home. Got home at 12:30 AM. Was suppose to be home at around 8:30 PM.

Rained here and still looks like rain. Check out the post on stolen trains. Got to get some things done. Later and God Bless.

Good Day... Greetings to all.

Went to the Garden RR show at the Queen Mary yesterday. Actually a very good show, vendors located in an outside parking area, ( as it turns out knew one, and he gave us free passes to enter the exhibitional hall). The exhibition area was pretty large took up 3 levels in the cargo hold area of the ship. Plenty of vendors!!!!

Found some interesting 9v sound systems for like $40, with all types of sound affects like whistles (diesel or steam), chuffing, area or siding sounds. Machine shop, caliope, farm animals, thunderstorms, on and on. Most of which consist of a small pcb, 1,2, or 3 inch speaker, a reed switch and a magnetic trip device. So when the engine/car hit the switch device the sound reacts. Great for sidings and all kinds of stuff. AND INEXPENSIVE ! We bought a couple of whistles, chuffing sound, and hobo stuck in a box car.

Got the whistles for a LGB Mogul we have AND for the new HIESLER we picked up. The chuffing sound is triggered by a trip placed on the axle of any car with the speaker and pcb in the car, 9v. ALL n ALL a very good show, much more than what I was expecting to see!!

Got our DCS system running, (I may have previously mentioned) Johnny Cash has been running around singing the Orange Blossom special a lot. Still totally impressed with the system.

Last January, I was asking questions about the various systems, and looking for recommendations. I sure am glad a number of you suggested get BOTH, you will really like it!!! Definetly and understatement.

Oh, I talked to Rod? from MTH at the show, and expressed appreciation for his assistance. Commented about DCS not being able to do a lashup with TMCC engines. He said that is the "current" situation only. Interesting..... Didn't try to pressure him for a date, or version release number.

Have a great week all.....

My mother came across the pond on the Queen Mary, though we tell everyone she came over on the Mayflower. I would like to bring her to see it again. She was a young girl when they took the voyage from England.

Good afternoon from cloudy central North Carolina. Got some pretty intense storms last night. More hail.

David, more than likely a knife of that size would be considered a concealed weapon. Wear it on your hip, and nobody will probably notice. I'm amazed at the people that don't notice my 9mm on my hip when I'm doing an open carry.

Alternatively, get a folding pocket knife. I currently carry a Gerber E-Z-Out knife every where I go. It fits inside the pocket, but has a clip on it so the top of it extends just enough to grab. The blade is designed so that it can be easily opened with one hand. A lot of rescue people carry these so they can do one-handed seatbelt cuts if they have too. I use it about every day, whether it's opening mail, opening a box, cutting the old twine that got wrapped around my lawn mower blade, or what ever. I've also used it to cut small limbs and vines.

Didn't run any trains this weekend. Had soccer tournaments.
