Greetings all!

Just thought I'd check in from deep in the heart of Dixie! My son and I are in a two bedroom apartment in Prattville, Alabama while my wife and younger daughter get our house in Mobile on the market to sell. He started at his new school today while I began work at my new church. It's kind of like starting over, learning all of the names and faces at a large church. Still, it's a very nice town and the folks here have given my family a warm welcome. Not doing much railroading right now. I did watch a few train videos yesterday, including Elliot's (Big Boy's) excellent video on building an O gauge layout. I may just build that layout once we get into a new house.
I'm using my son's laptop with AOL. I sure miss my cable modem! You all take care and I'll talk with you later!

Dr. John, glad to hear from you. [:)] No chunks of metal in lower unit gear lube. Changed prop and will test. Hope it was the other props hub slipping under torque. We'll see. Want to go back and fish Kerr by myself. Think I will catch more and bigger. [;)] Got to get boat fixed or checks OK first.

It's so easy with dry wall screws. I built it in the basement, took it apart, carried it upstairs and put it back together.

Thanks John, that wasn't one of Tom's best sellers, so it's always nice to hear when someone owns a copy and enjoys it.

We shot that at Tom's place, over a long weekend, so the layout can be done fairly quickly. I recommend that you take your time, if you do decide to build it. It is a nice classic 4' x 8' layout, right out of a Lionel book.

I may just have to dig that tape out myself, my kids have never seen it, though they have seen the enterTRAINent tape once or twice. My, how time flies. My son will be 12 on Thursday, he was born 2 months after enterTRAINment opened.

As fall is well upon us, temp this morning is 39 deg with a high in low 60’s. Yesterday, we had a Blue Clear Skys most of the day, should be the same today.

This weekend we to a two hour class on digital camera basics.[:D] So today pics are some ultra close ups.

Tom, tell us the secrets of digital closeups. Looks good and clear. Mine are always fuzzy.

Nice shots for a digital camera Tom;
Chief; if you had another prop on your outboard it could have been a problem with the angle of the blades. If you put a fast angle prop on, it might be possible that the prop is turning faster than water can be sucked up. In that way you start screwing in air which revs the engine and looks as if the prop isn't turning. You get that sort of things when the tail of the outboard engine doesn't reach under the boat.
If it worked with the other prop nicely, I'll bet the problem is away when putting it back.

Daan, that prop is the original prop. It is a Raker. Designed to run with one blade out of the water. Hope it is the hub slipping under great torque. Off to the lake to see. Buckeye, looks great. Keep on posting them. Send some by email so I can store them. Elliot, great photo. Do some more. Tom, give us the secret on close ups. Buckeye is right. Close ups look fuzzy. God bless all.

Wow, nice shots. Cold today - to get colder. Hope to get the missing track (sectional curves and a few short straights) later this week. I ballasted another sample section with my 'free' driveway rock ballast - it looks great. Happy to hear from Dr. John.

The secrets to real close ups – Being a design engineer, we have an old saying “RFM” which means when all else fails “Read the F--- Manual” or asks someone who knows.

Look for an Icon which looks like a “flower”. Pick it, this should allow you to be within 2” of the object. You should see the originals, before compressing them for the form.

Try it, you will be surprised like I was.

The flower Icon on the camera setting changes the field of vision (I think??) and allows the ultra close ups. Don' t even need to use the zoom. This Icon should be part of the setting like turning on or off the flash.

Well what ever it is Those ars some good pictures, And you have good taste in locomotives.
I've always wanted the manufactures to expand on the really early years of steam,And not make some cheep version but rather scale rep's of from say 1890s to the 1920s.
Lionel has started to do some but I'd like to see some of the not so flashy horses of day's gone by.

NE Ohio has another cool morning in the mid 40’s with a high going to the the high 50’s. You know what this sounds like is coming. In a couple of months this will sound real worm.

The rest of the week, I have meeting with one of our customers from over seas. When this is done, I will need a good relaxing ride out of town.

I'm finally caught up (mostly) with the outdoor duties of owning an acreage and now it's train time. The weather has been fantastic in Iowa this fall but it's quickly coming to a halt today, grey skies with brief showers and big winds. I filled the fireplace an hour ago to take off the chill and I feel a nap coming on..................... then trains.

Good Morning Everyone,

Chief--the layout has been at a huge standstill since Memorial Day, but the good news is that now with cooler weather we will head downstairs and finish off the last 1/3 of the industrial area. Our goal since last Christmas was to do an open house the first part of December and we still plan to do that, but we have some serious build time to complete the project. I think if we didn't have that goal we would continue to limp along. This weekend should start the final leg and I'm really looking forward to getting down there. We both love to bicycle and work outside on our acreage but I'm MORE THAN READY to winterize all that "stuff" and work on the trains, we really enjoy all of the seasonal changes and the opportunities they bring to our lives but I'll tell you this, next March I'll be MORE THAN READY to get back outside :)
