Hey, you all going to sleep all morning????? Guess what, its raining. Not like yesterday when the sun was shinning all day and it was windy and then suddenly a line came through and it rained 2" in about 30 to 40 minutes and rotations popping up on the radar. That was interesting. Local TV stopped the soaps and just ran their live radar that up dated every minute. Everytime a rotation came up, it would put a live circle over it. It will tell you if it is a high altitude rotation or a close to ground rotation. Today is one of those cool set in to rain all day things. Off to down east to Mom's [88 today]. God bless all.

Wow, 88! A milestone. I hope she enjoys her celebration. It's sad to hear about those two tailgaters being killed. It was a big story here because they're from the Chicago suburbs. Another gorgeous day here - but cool - only in the low 70s as a high this weekend. And supposed to be in the high 80s next week - what gives with this weather? Dry too - always missing all this rain - the trees are stressing so they're coloring and dropping leaves already. I want to try to 'widen' my sectional curves this weekend - or at least experiment with some of the extra short straight sections of track I have - put in curve, straight, curve and see if it fits. Also practiced ballasting with my 'free' little rocks I swept off the driveway - it looks v. cool. I realize I really have to clean the track after sprinkling the rocks over the track. I'm only going to do it on the sides of the track that can be seen too. Now off the celebrate the opening of our new church auditorium - seats 7,200 - yow! Hope you are all safe this weekend.

Everybody in the family came thru unhurt. Although my stepmom's sister and brother-in-law lost their mobilehome to Frances. At 92 years old ain't that a kick in the butt, although they seem to be doing OK. My visit got extended a couple of times when Ivan was moving about and then Jeanne which originally was forecast to come in at Daytona where they all live. It was bad enough going thru Frances, can't imagine what Ivan was like. Don't want to sound cold hearted but glad Ivan went into the Gulf and not central Fla. Some of the folks there just got their electricity back on friday and besides the structural damage they are still having flooding problems not to mention the gators and snakes displaced by the high waters.
Dave, There was a press conference with one of the emergency mgmt groups and a question was brought up by some reporter about the remains of a truck that you see on the bridge. In essence the question was, "Why weren't there any Hiway Patrol posted at the bridge entrances to prevent traffic from traveling on the bridge?" If I had been there I think I might've hit that idiot upside the head, worth the fine I think. With all of the barricades and road closure announcements does anyone with common sense expect patrol cars to be out and about with a STRONG cat 3 hurricane coming ashore. I was amazed that the piers look good but the roadway was just shoved aside, but you might expect that when 25 ft waves were expected on Escambia Bay.

YEA, Dougs back. If you read the earlier coffee posts, you'll see I have been asking about you. We'll send Buckeye to investigate the bridge problem. That is what he does sometimes. Feed him to the gators [Yankee meal]. [;)] [that is because his Buckeyes beat my Wolfpack yesterday [xx(]] Glad things were not too bad for the folks. Not fun. It will take years for the land and the folks to heal. After Fran and Floyd, lots of the kids would just start crying when the wind started blowing. Trauma for all ages. Glad you are back.

With the cooler weather here I decided it was time to take the granddaughters' pool down this weekend. Started it draining last night and took it down this morning. It's one of those with the inflatable ring that rises as you fill it. I have it sitting out in the sun drying before I fold it up and stow it.

While doing this I jumped back and forth working on a scratch build apartment house building front for against the wall on the layout. It worked out well, while glue dried I worked on the pool.

For the folks who like to vacation in Colo. try the Rocky Mountain National Park. We lived in Grand Lake, western entrance to the park, around 9500 ft elevation. Absolutely gorgeous scenery but it got very tiresome when you had to work 7/24 to live. The road over the continental divide is great, from Grand Lake to Estes Park, but the best drive, if it is still open, is the original unpaved one way road. Not recommended for cars with a low ground clearence or motor homes or vehicles towing trailers. There are also three lakes, Grand/Shadow Mountain/Granby, that were real good fishing spots. For the golfers they also had a muni golf course at about 9800 ft, at that elevation almost any weekend hacker could drive like Tiger Woods.

A TV show on some early 19th century locomotives found under the sea recently off the Joisey coast will aire on the History Channel tonight at either 8 or 9 p.m. Eastern time. The name of the program, I believe is UnderWater (or DeepSea?) Discoveries. I don't have my TV guide with me but it was promo'd several times over the weekend showing a clear view of the steam locomotives, barnacle-encrusted, being hauled out of the water.

A very cool day in virginee. Nice for a change.

BTW, tornadoes knocked around some houses down the road over the weekend incl. my buddy's fence. Picked up his neighbor's deck which had 2 dogs on it at the time. The dogs somehow jumped (or flew?) to safety and not injured miraculously.

I don't think it's the same locomotive as the mysterious disapperance to the twin of the Stourbridge Lion, which got lost either enroute to NYCity or dockside. That would be a major find.

Also, train fans, there's a National Geographic train special on tomorrow (tuesday) at either 8 or 9 p.m. I forgot what it's about but it's supposed to be excellent. Glad I got satellite hooked up 6 months ago. Don't know what I'd do w/out it.

Howdy!
We're having some beautiful weather down here in Dixie. Low humidity and cool temperatures - a real nice change after the storm of last week.
Still hear a lot of chain saws running. We got our yard cleared of debris, so we're pretty much back to normal. Mobile has about 90% of its power back. I really have to commend the folks at Alabama Power and some of the utility guys from out of state. They are working 19 hour days to get power restored along the gulf coast. My hat's off to them!

Dr. John, glad things are getting back to normal. Just saw the weather and Ivan is back in FL. It is forecast now to go back into the Gulf and become a tropical system and hit Texas. ZOOOM was that a silver Camero go across the screen. Just ran my old Lionel steam engines and they do run good. Had 13 double stacks and trailertrains behind them. They can pull a load and smoke up a storm. Buckeye, I'm a Ranger boats guy. Hey Doug M, got that heavy wire soldered to the track yet?

My email in Pentagon is still screwed up and seems I can only send out emails and not receive them. It's because the section I'm in insists on using Macs, which don't interface well with the rest of the system and require different techies.

Another cool day in Virginia. was able to walk BB the beagle in the woods in the colder weather, as the ticks appear to retreat, at least temporarily, into their hideouts.

Nice Miller High Life reefer, Tom. I recently switched from Bud and Coors lite to Miller lite, as it has much more flavor than the other lites; course no lite stands up to a non-lite or to the German beers. Too bad they can't invent a full-bodied lite that tastes as good as the rich dark brews. Whoever does will be rich.
