Dr. John, sending you a friend [Frances]. [;)] Looks like you might get some of that action instead of me [for a change]. Pretty and sunny here in Myrtle Beach SC. [not now as it is night] Not bad time. Some of my BPS buddies from the Savannah store are here helping with the start up. We are all in the same hotel. Kinda like a family reunion. Looks like NC dodged the bullet on this storm but you can never tell about those things. Going home tomorrow PM. God bless all.

I'm back! Yes, I am back from my fishing trip to Wawa, Ontario, Canada. What a great week in the wilderness. [:D] Did I say I caught fish? [?] On Thursday I was able to finally fish in the barrel. [C):-)][wow][yeah] Twenty seven fish in a span of 6 hours! I had to use a felt tip pen to make a mark on the side of the boat to keep track of the count.

Fish finder fell in the lake. Didn't see any bears or moose this trip. Only heard the distant sounds of the Canadian National and did not visit the station at Hawk Junction.

Keeping a close watch on Frances. Looks like it will make a second landing somewhere along the Florida panhandle, a good ways to the east of Mobile. We'll probably get several inches of rain here with only a little wind.

Our church is hosting 50 disaster relief workers from Texas and Louisiana. They are staging in Alabama and Georgia until the storm passes through Florida, then they will head in to provide hot meals and help with the clean-up. They have quite a job ahead of them!

I would define a 'troll' as someone who posts something with the intention of making trouble. My buddy is an on-call disaster inspector for FEMA left today for Mobile where he'll be staged into FL for maybe up to 60 days, yuck. I successfully cleaned off the crawlspace and even got 'permission' to add a few more 4x8 foam boards up there. I'm in the middle of stashing everything I cleared off in the rest of the basement. Cleaning my 'driveway rock' ballast is becoming a sojourn. After puzzling, I dumped the bucket on a plastic garbage bag and soaked it with a hose, then left it there to air -dry ...'course it rained overnight...

Trolls, I think we should ignore them and just act as if they did not post. I do think that this forum [and OGR] should require name, address, email and etc. Most of the fishing forums do require that. You have the choice to make it public or private [only the webb masters can see them if private] with a check in a block. Now the bad guys could just lie but at least they could contact the ones that are truful if they needed too.

Wow, Buckeye, sounds like a wonderful trip. Cooler today - maybe we can go without the airconditioning and I can 'rescue' my ballast. I am trying to figure out a track plan that would encompass my expanded space and allow the running of two trains at the same time.

Morning [almost noon] gang. Been taking it easy. Need to do expense report. Sun just came out. Grass might be dry enough to mow. Better get it if I can. Calling for rain off and on all week. Wife re-did dinning room while I was gone. Now I have to fix the mess. She stripped the wall paper off and painted the walls. Poor painter. Now has redish paint on white ceiling, crown molding and chair rail. Always something. Will take days to fix. [:(]

tom,

Looks like a friendly bear sighting. Not only is there a bear, neighbors have been seeing snakes. BB the beagle found one outside the house that had been run over.

Neighbors are freaking out. I told them not to worry, that the snakes kill mice.

Finished my screenplay (draft #1) on Saturday. Includes scenes of Lionel PW trains, Civil War trains, and even a handcar. Also, a balloon trip. Total time is 90 minutes but I'm going to add several more scenes to bring it up to 110 minutes.

Built a book case yesterday for my daughter's college dorm room. Took half a day to do.

Still trying to find my way around the Pentagon w/out getting too lost. Still don't have email or even a permanent pass. Things go slowly here.

Good Morning all,

NE Ohio has a cloudy morning at 73 deg with a high of 80’s and a chance of t-storms. The days sure have been getting shorter. We are loosing about 3 minutes a day now. Sunrise is after I get to work now.

Dave, I’m glad you like the bear setting.

With the reports of Francis moving up the Ala. - GA border we cut out Labor Day weekend short and came home last night. Glad we did. We hit some squalls as we crossed into GA and the rest of the way home. This morning it's pouring and gusting, I'd hate to be driving in this today. Watching the morning news there are some school closings due to power outages and/or local flooding, luckily not in our area.

Looks like the worst rain areas are on the north-east front of the storm, your turn next chief.

Glad you came home early, Roger. NIce day here - high expected in low 70s - dang cool this morning waiting for the train. Have to get out a jacket. Spent 3 hours drying out ballast in the oven yesterday. I think it worked. Still sketching track plans...I think my goals are broader than my pocketbook - Instead of rearranging everything to be two-tracked, I may just end up extending the single line around the boards I hope to buy.

Good morning everyone, we're back online here in West Palm Beach after Frances went through. The damage is not too bad here, mostly trees down. We had the southern eyewall come through here so had winds all night up to about 100 MPH or so. This one was a slow mover, finally got up to 8 mph foreward speed by 5AM Sunday. Seen one hurricane now, any curiosity I ever had is satisfied, don't ever want to see another. Have to leave the storm shutters up until we see what Ivan does.

Morning all. Hope all these Florida guys or guys Florida families are OK. Rain??? What is rain? Yes, it is coming down but not a heavy as they predicted [so far]. Just steady. Think Ivan will miss Florida this time. Watchout Texas. Hey, sun just came out!!!!! Not suppose too. Well, I'm sure it will rain some more. Have a good day and God bless all.

Good Morning Chief,

Glad to here that the rain is not as heavy as they thought it would be.

I check the storm tracker and Ivan is on the same path as Charley.

http://www.wftv.com/weather/3707917/detail.html

When you go to this site, click on the Hurricane tracker and do both Ivan and Charley.

Good morning all, another beautiful day here in paradise, uh, I mean Chicago. Never thought I'd be saying that. I'm still scheming whether I can afford to double-track the layout when I add 3 more foam boards tomorrow - since I'm using 027 track with sectional curves, I don't think I can easily do it - so maybe...and I'm thinking out loud here, I'll just doubletrack the new portion - or rather add a separate loop there...

Well it's raining here in Pittsburgh...looking to play a little with the layout platform later. I guess it looks like we could also get some flooding here but fortunately I am in no danger of all of that 'cept for some very minor basement dampness.

We are having nice weather for early September down here in Lower Alabama. Still warm (about 90 degrees) but less humid and very pleasant in the mornings and evenings. Keeping an eye on Ivan. We've dodged some bullets this year but I wonder when a storm is going to come up the Gulf into Mobile Bay like Admiral Farragut having a bad day! (You Civil War buffs can check out the reference to the battle of Mobile Bay.)
