The Garden RR is beneath the tree....................

See that white spot on the right below the purple flower, that's the track.

House has minor damage, the deck, due to a great structural design is holding, but the storage box is toast. It was a hickory, 30" diameter at the base. We still haven't found the thermometer that was attached to the tree.

The TRAIN ROOM is the room above the garage and the tree smashed the corner where the trains are not located.

BTW, where was the Chief last night? [?][?][?][?] I'm gone and .....................naw, it is just too much of a coincidence.

Buckeye, Cheif is out of town again. Aren't we lucky.

Cut up the treee and use it for smoking some meat and for BBQ fires.

Glad the house is ok.

Buckeye - great to have you back and glad your house is basically OK. I guess the good news is that the damage wasn't any worse. Too bad you have to clean up something like that just as you return from a long and tiring trip. That always seems to happen to me - get back and you just want to relax and some problem jumps up.

Finally got to mow today as grass was getting high and more rain hit right whenI got done. I ran over a stuck sprinkler head so I get to fix that when it dries out. Been raining on and off for 2 hours now. We really needed it.

Someone paying the Chief to fish is like paying the fox to guard the henhouse. I wonder if someone would pay me to fish, would I get better at it? Nah! I should get a discounted license since I am no threat to the fish population.

Roger - if you do not have an adware problem, sometimes things just get slow on the servers due to a large number of users hitting at the same time.

Have a great day all!
Roy

Alls wasback to normal later in the evening, must have been a slow server. I usually "clean house" on the computer at least once a week and AOL Spyzapper check every time I sign on, I make use of all the AOL , so called, freebies that come with the package.

Been another beautiful day here today, chance of showers tomorrow and Monday.

Good evening,

It turned out to be a very nice day in WNY. It rained most of the morning but then the sun came out and temps got into the 70's. I think Kate and I will head into Bemus Point this evening to get some chicken wings and a couple of beers. Bemus is a small community that comes alive in the summer, mostly with tourists who are up here visiting our lake.

Buckeye, sorry to hear about your house. I am glad it wasn't as bad as it could have been. Hope you can clean it up easily.

Have a good night all.

Back from a couple of days in Mobile visiting family. Turned kind of warm this weekend. I think summer has arrived.

Buckeye, sorry your house was damaged. Hopefully your garden railroad is not too badly hurt.

Long day, so I think I'll turn in early. Good night!

As everyone else has asked Buckeye, hope you and your family are OK, Houses can be rebuilt families can't.
It has been a while for me to be here. Construction time and great weather for it. I have been putting in no less than 70 hours a week ( I only wish it was constructing my layout) but then bills would not get paid. I can't wait for Thanksgiving (no O.T.) Then I be back to working on the layout.
Have a nice holiday weekend everyone.

Jim, Thanks for asking about the family. Needless to say the spouse had left for her sister on Friday morning and I arrived back at the house today at 5:30am to find the mess in the back yard. The cat was definitely nervous all day.

The contractors will be here on Tuesday to begin the clean up. They cleaned up some today and took the limbs off of the house.

Now some photos from the trip to Canada

A lake trout taken on a black and gold Rapala.

A 23" Walleye taken bobber fishing with a leach.

Two northern pike and smallmouth bass. The northern is 30" and has very sharp teeth.

A stringer of Lake Trout taken in less than two hours. Caught on red eye spoons.

We were at: http://www.totomenailodge.com/index.html

If you go, you can ride the train to Hawk Junction, Ontario and the camp would pick you up. We often heard the train horns in the distance when fishing on the lake. It is like stepping back in time. The log trains are like our coal trains.

More information about the train can be found at: http://www.agawacanyontourtrain.com/index.html

Glad to be back, but had a great time catching 42 fish. Threw many walleye back in the water to grow some more for the next time.

Buckeye, sorry about the damage [even though you are a Yankee]. Hey, I did type a list of manners for you to follow while you were gone. Everyone agreed you needed the list. [;)] Hey, I got some great pictures today. Missed a IC and CN lashed as I thought it was going to cross the bridge in front of me. It backed up. Waited about an hour and a BNSF train of empty hopper cars [same one I missed yesterday crossing with coal loads], came out of the tunnel and crossed the swing bridge. Tunnel shot was a long was off but when it got to the end of the bridge, I got a CLOSE UP!!! Got shots of BNSF engines running all the time on the east bank but long ways off as I am on the west bank. Want to see trains, come to Dubugue. Two or three tracks run on the east shore and cross the line coming out of the tunnel that crosses the bridge. May try to sneak over and get photo of that crossing. Well, going out fishing tomorrow AM with guide and Cablea's boat and tackle. Hard life here. Stopping in Chicago around noon Monday to eat bar-be-que with retired BN railroad cop [fishing buddy]. Good night and God bless. [oh Buckeye, they look exactly like pictures I've seen before [;)]]

TOM nice pic of the 911 boxcar.
On Friday night caught and released 4 trout all brownies brother caught and released 1 low water and too clear. Neat thing about friday night was on our walk to our stretch of creek we encountered a hen turkey trying to make it self fad away on the path we were walking on. It flattened it self out low to the ground and had about 7 peeps with her they ran around and hid on the back side of her. We watched them for a while and left them go, as we walked to the stream they got up and the peeps fell in line with mom and went into the woods. Pretty neat event. Had the 3 Bs afterwards at the outdoor fireplace. Burgers Brauts Beer, go eatin and good fun.
Went to train shop yesterday to pick up my NS Lionel Black Diamond Set. What a deal the whole se for $399. The set include the SD80,with odyssey, 5 cars, O gauge, lite smoking caboose, fast track CW 80 transformer and DVD.
Set it up and ran it last night runs GREAT.
All have agood one.

Hi all,

Here are pictures of my first train in 45 years and the start of my layout. The boxcars are from the Archive Collection #6464 3 pack in the Lionel 2005 catalog. The loco is Lionel 6-38070 from the 2004 catalog.

I am 55 years old and do not know much about model trains but I am having fun learning. I am enjoying my new train and command control with the CAB-1 and just thought I would share some photos

Hello all!

Iron H - [#welcome] to the coffee pot! Check in once in a while. Welcome back to the hobby. We have a good time with it here. Keep those pics coming. We enjoy all kinds of layouts as you have probably seen form all the various posts. Is that green carpet? It looks good.

Buckeye - looks like you had a great time. Also looks like you have lots o' wood to smoke that fish.

Spanky - I'm with you. A whole day of racing! The wife just loves [:-^] it!

Rained from 12 until 7 pm yesterday. We needed it. More predicted today.

Have a great day all!

At noon today a chilly 73 with overcast sky, no pool for the GDs today. Guess I'll spend the afternoon watching races on and off, working on layout as I get board with racing.

Buckeye, glad no major damage, your going to have a lot of wood for smoking your favorite meats, or fish, after that hickory dries out.

Good Morning, Everyone!

Bukeye, Sorry to hear about your house. Hopefully it won't take much to get things back to normal. It could have been much worse, though!

I got my first EEL engine in the mail today. It turned out to be a lot heavier than I thought it would be. The second one should be coming sometime next week. I contacted my friend about trading the one and he's very excited to finally be getting an EEL engine. He has a prewar European clockwork set that he'll trade me for it.

Tomorrow, I'm going to be heading to Winnipeg with my French class from school. We'll be coming back on Tuesday. We also made this trip last year and it was a lot of fun. There's even the possibility that I might come home with some trains. One of the things on the itinerary for the trip is shopping at The Forks. The Forks is a special little section of Winnipeg that has an assortment of businesses that you walk to and from. This includes an antique mall. Last year, I got a great deal on a Marx set with a couple of rare pieces there, so hopefully this year I'll find something as well.

Hi Guys, Luckily the tree only hit the house on a corner buckeye.. Don't you have a chainsaw yourself? Luckily even your cat survived the crash and the garden railroad and the corner of the house can be repaired, life is more important.. (but it's still a bunch of work to get it right again..)
Today I started installing lights and the crossing on my layout. I will embed the track in underlayment to make the hirail less high, so far it looks allright. The road is made of 2 layers underlayment to get on the hight of the track. The edges will be covered in plaset later on.. It's more work then simply put track on a piece of plywood, but the looks are much better.. (The Maerklin track is almost 3/4 of an inch high, so a bit less is no luxury).
in Holland we had a few days above 30 degrees celcius, which is very hot for spring.. I enjoyed the motorcycle and the garden, so no much traintime the last few day's..

Hope everyone is safe and sound..
Daan. I'm Dutch, but only by country...

Buckeye--

I'm glad the damage wasn't worse, still bad enough and certainly not the best way to start the summer season. Those fish are just the way I remember my pre married days, way to go.

Just taking it easy here this weekend after our friends left yesterday. Talked to Chief on Friday and that was fun, sounds like he's enjoying his weekend. We got in a nice bike ride yesterday and one more today after the Indy 500 followed by wine & cheese-----loving this weather.

If you have a chance tomorrow----- think about going to a local Memeorial Day service, it means a lot to the Vet's.

Roy, the green stuff is paper that is textured on one side to make it look like grass. It comes in 4' by 8' rolls. It looks OK but it is kind of messy because the little grass particles come off easily.

laz, I almost bought that Black Diamond set that you have. It was a hard decision on what to buy but I wanted to get a steamer real bad so I got the 4-6-2 Pacific instead. If money were not an issue I think that I would have bought both. I was thinking about getting the Keystone super freight set but it does not come out until July and I did not want to wait until then to get it.

Good afternoon, all! It's hazy and warm in Prattville, a light breeze keeping it pleasant.

The state troopers and police are out in force this weekend! Memorial day seems to get them out more than usual. I was pulled over by a local cop this afternoon. Thankfully, he knew me and let me off with a warning - very nice of him! I was guilty of doing 71 in a 55 zone. Should have known better, but Big Blue likes to get going, especially down hill!

Looking forward to a day off tomorrow and a little R&R. I'll let my son do the yard since his hand is out of the cast - no more excuses for him!

Have a great Memorial Day, everyone!

Afternoon all. Stuck in IA. We got packed up sooner than we were told. Now I sit in hotel and watch TV. Drive to Chicago tomorrow AM, eat lunch with retired railroad cop and go sit at airport for hours waiting for flight. Will see if i can get earlier one but doubt it. Went fishing on the Mississippi this AM. Rained the whole time. Got back and it quit. Caught fish but none like Buckeye. Filled my chip up so only got picture of my Pro Staff buddy showing our guest [10 year old girl] how to cast. Wasted the memory on trains. Did get to shoot a CN, IC, CN lashup crossing the big bridge this AM before getting in the boat. Was a long ways off but zoomed and actually think it turned out good. The little young lady was a contest winner yesterday and our trip was to take her fishing. She had a ball and is a real fisherperson. Did not mind the rain. This was her first trip on the Mississippi. Made it all worth the wetness. Got some great pictures to download and post. Well, go get some dinner and watch TV. God bless all.

Hello All: Its been a while since I have posted, but I have tried to keep up every few days by looking in. Working 12 - 14 hour day's for 6-8 weeks starts to burn you out. Also offered to help with my boy's roller hockey team & magically became the head coach. My 16 year old just got back from New York City (High school trip) last weekend, they never had trips like that when I was in school. They did the whole deal, Empire State building, Ellis Island, Central Park, Broadway show, shopping in Manhattan, the best was the Yankees/Mets game at Shea Stadium. She said the subway system was smelly & their were a lot of unusual people down there. BUCKEYE: Glad you had a safe trip, I told you the fish pretty well just jump in the boat for you up there. Too bad about your house, Glad all are safe. Everyone have a great week Kind Regards To All Steve
