On the topic of appliances.....seems everyone I talk to is dissatisfied with what (brand) they have because the suckers just don't seem to have any quality built in on the front end, break down, and then don't have the longevity either even when repaired. Wife and I outfitted the entire kitchen and laundry with Kenmore when we moved in here 20 years ago. Got the best package deal from Sears. Only the dryer is original. The second pass at purchases not as good as we have had 2 repairs on the fridge ($600 out of pocket). Microwaves...we're on our third. Garbage disposal, #3 as well. When any of the appliances start leaking water and you have hardwood in the kitchen.....
Wes.....$2,800 for the four pieces you noted would be a good deal up this way. Appliance places are really wheeling and dealing. Higher $ if you get into the ridiculous brands with features no one would ever use. Your quote is about what daughter and SIL got three months ago for the same 4 pieces. Re stainless, daughter got this finish with the alleged "doesn't show smudges and fingerprints." It works with the 5 year old Granddaughter. Daughter got a 6 burner glasstop with the center griddle and uses that feature to death. Plus she cooks a lot and needs more than the standard 4-5 burners. Warmer in the bottom drawer that some stoves use for just storage also works well and comes in handy every time she's trying to keep everything warm for serving. I'll get the brand they bought, all the same.
Kurt.....Consumer Reports had an issue some time back on appliance life expectancy.....not good, scary. They also provided advice about when you should repair vesus replace. If my memory serves me correctly, 6 years was the cut off and 8 was "Don't even think about repair." Seems that we are perpetuating the throw away mentality out of financial necessity. Daughter got just short of 6 years out of her last side by side fridge which included $550 of off warranty repairs and was facing a new compressor to boot. Extended warranties on appliances might be worth it after all.
DougM.....re Rex Grossman's replacement. Patriots' Matt Cassel ain't available, at least not yet. Has been franchised at $14M for one year, though Tom Brady's recovery from knee surgery is allegedly moving along nicely now despite post operative infection issues. Cassel is a winner.

Being only child with three kids, spending it so I can enjoy and they will not fight and have falling out. See that all the time. More than one kid, one gets mad and there is a big family fude.

I need to call Frigidare today to see if they'll pay for the labor. Since I already wrote a check to the repair guy, one more and this thing is out. Parts are in, and can be installed tomorrow. I asked the repair guy if there are any DWs he doesn't see, and he said no. So it may be a crap-shoot. Common boxcars! Daddy needs a new dishwasher.
Jack: This seems to be an ongoing problem, and I'm sure that Frigidare is aware of it. We can't be an isolated issue. The control electronics are covered by the 90 day warranty from the last time they were repaired, or we would be dumping this thing now.
Wes: I have friends with a Bosch Dishwasher, and they love it. Super Super quiet, but high end. Let me know if you find something worthwhile. Seems like you need to spend really big bucks just to get something that works.
Rich: That is a nice ride! Is it loud? Do mothers take their children off the streets when it comming? Hope things work out.
Chief: Plumbing? Don't you just go outside and reel the bucket up from the well? Or do you have a fancy indoor bucket?

Chief ... I don't know what it is you take or eat to get so much darn energy ... must be those grits ! Man ... I've never seen a guy so busy and doing so many things all the time . By the way ... I live below the mason dixon line and fly the stars and bars ... does that make me a southern rebel .... hope so ? Sold my williams cab forward to my brother in law ... but not before buying another mint in the box unit . Man ... they're extremely hard to get ! He begged like a lil kid at xmas time ... LOL . Mine had alot of track time ... this one was only tested and repacked . Nobody wants to give them up ... changed my mind on installing a sound board in it . Going to get a car with steam sounds instead ... couple it up and won't have to alter the tender with holes ... etc. Decided a few weeks ago to go Reading for work train set ... my mistake ... they're premium for rolling stock ... and rarer .

After my "meeting" with Town Manager, off to Charlotte/Concord for Bass Pro Shops event [will rest then]. Man it is real warm. Shirt sleves and still sweat on the brow. Then rainy and bottom falls out for weekend.
I redid my kitchen in Pittsburgh the year before I moved to Baltimore. Installed all Kenmore appliances from Sears. No problems with them ever, and renters love them. I went with higher mid-grade stuff (not stainless) an. Here in Baltimore we have Kenmore appliances stainless, but not the pro line. No problems with them either. Consumer reports always gives Kenmore good grades for reliability (higher than Bosch, Wolf, and the other 'professional' appliance dealers, even Kitchenaide). We're looking to upgrade our stove from a single oven unit to a dual oven unit, going with Kenmore again. I would really like to upgrade the dishwasher because I find ours to be a bit on the loud side. I'm also looking to install a garbage disposer, that too will be Kenmore. IMHO with Kenmore you can't go wrong.Been reading about the 'Vision' line... with Lionel's continued disregard to B&O, C&O, WM, Chessie, etc I have a feeling I'll be saying a lot of money in the coming years. Really getting sick and tired of only seeing PRR, NYC, Santa Fe, and UP in their offerings. Very incredibly disappointed with the route Jerry has taken the company. Focusing on the high-end market during an economic downturn, IMHO, is basicly throwing in the towel. I'll be you dollar to dollar that NONE of the Lionel exe staff is at York. Maybe I should just stay away from their booth... I may get thrown out and barred from ever attending again... I'll check out the catalog on Monday and then decide what I'm going to do... last catalog there was ONE thing I really wanted (C&O E7s) and they cancelled them... now this...

Wellll, did spend some time on the layout, cleaning up the leftover panelling from my fascia installation, and then adding more pine trees to my Narrows section. Learned that I should not wear a thick, hooded RAVENS sweatshirt while utilizing my cutout section. Some trees wound up in the hood; lost my fifey-flannels on the way up, and the offending hooded sweatshirt on the way down. Thankfully, did not need to summons any of Rich's friends for the extrication, for the digital image would have been priceless...
Back from SSA. Only took an hour to get the daughter's status change. I knew I was in trouble getting there minutes after opening to pick #105 and hear they call for 41. But it wasn't too bad. I'm pleased with our Whirlpool - you may recall I spent a long time pretending our old dishwasher wasn't dead. Kurt, the Chessie car is coming - I hope to mail it Sat. When I also hope to do some LED wiring. Pouring rain here - even heard thunder. Wish I saw that tree planting...

We paid $675 in Nov. 04.
So far $865. See the pattern. The warranty will expire soon, and we will be paying for parts & labor. Fridgidare did cover the labor as a "One time good will offering" this time. This one has the touch pads on the top and front of the door. Condensation somehow gets into these pads and shorts them out. They won't reset when it dries out.
Brent: We always had Kenmore growing up. We have a Kenmore Washer and Dryer now, that work great! 10-years old. I also have a Kenmore Gas Grill... No I'm not proud, but it works great!

He's opening his eyes now, and there are some facial expressions. So I'm assuming that's progress. I'll try to get up tonight after the play and I'll be at the LTS Saturday as well.
Well there have to "monkey wrenches" thrown into the bike mix. I found a '07 VTX 1300 for the same price (bigger bike) with 770 miles on it for about the same price and a 2007 Victory 8 Ball with 1200 miles on it for 2k more (MUCH bigger bike). Decisions, decisions...
I also purchased the tires I need to get started on the Satellite...another project...wonderful...

It has been a crazy week! Prayers are being answered as we are now legal guardians for the grandkids, and my daughter and her husband are in rehab for substance abuse. Their case worker wants them to bottom out before we visit and I am in total agreement. Got to listen to the pros I figure. Bride had four spots in a *** that have been determined to not be a problem and to check them again in six months.
I tried to catch up on the pot but there was a lot going on. This weekend I will be without internet access so I won’t see what is going on till Monday.

Yeah, the violin lessons are fun. Got the bows rosined up today and started making noise. I am checking into the violin I'll be needing. They are not too expensive, but it does build up when getting four of them. Now my fingers smell like tree sap from the rosin.
Jim, prayers for them that they get through this successfully. Tough road to tote, but we both know that in Him, all things are possible. Glad you were able to work things out for guardianship. It will be tough for you as well with the little ones.

Now I started Reading railroad rolling stock and it's almost non existant . Got hooked by buying one then another crane .... not checking availability .... went to add on ... nuttin hardly .Lionel must have paid 50 cents for the trademark rights to UP .... LOL .

He had a meeting with Planning Director that has been named Asst Town Manager [because Manager is not doing his job] and told him opposite from what I insturcted the Town Manager. Then he tried calling Town Board members behind my back and tried to lie out of it. He got shut down by them. His stupidity is showing.

The new Lionel catalog is bound different, more like a soft cover book style. I like it, will be easier to store this way.

Well the test results are IN! I have 3 vanity areas in the house that require a total of 14 light bulbs. I did a replacement before the holidays of all but 3 of the bulbs, which were incandecents. I installed 3 more incandecents and replaced the rest with the new compact flourescents (eight 13 W CF bulbs - each equivalent to a 60 W incandecent). The wife had been bugging me the last 3 weeks to get in there and replace some burned out bulbs (requires removing a plastic diffuser which is somewhat a pain to get out of its frame). So I finally get to it tonight fully expecting to replace the last incandecents because these new bulbs are rated for 8,000 - 10,000 hrs average lifetime and the older incandecents are rated for 1,000 - 2,000 hours average lifetime (and remember that 3 of the bulbs were already several months old).
Well guess what? 6 of 8 CFs are dead and only 2 incandecents died. I had been noticing this in other places we have been using the CFs, but I was not sure. The CFs did not even approach 1,000 hrs before burning out. I may be saving energy but I am not saving any money. The reports also say it is not good to throw CFs into the landfill (minute mercury plus chemicals in the circuit boards for the HV inverter), and here in TX one is requested to take them by a state household hazardous waste recycling center. I am lucky as there is a center about 4 miles from my house (but it is only open certain days of the week). I checked the boxes and there is a 1-2 year warranty, but then one has to call for a return authorization, package them up, and ship them in - so that doesn't save any money either, not counting the time wasted.
I am filling a rather good sized box with the failed CFs from the past year.
Hit 80s again today, but cold front is in the area and will be below freezing for Sat night.

It is windy today in SE Indiana with temps dropping thru out the day. Scrimmaged again at the YMCA with the exchange student and a couple of other younger kids. Tripped over the ball and went sprawling on the floor with no damage except to my ego. Did some eBaying last night just to view stuff. Not much else happened last night. Just hoping for a nice quiet weekend. I had the regular fare on the dining car this morning. I hope everyone has a good day.
