Good Afternoon everyone!  Well, it has been a decent day in that we had a big case and all went as smooth as possible.  This was one of those Circulatory Arrest cases, where you cool the patient to 18 degrees and then just drain the blood out of them.  Has a lot of potential for bad things to happen.  We do this to replace the ascending aorta and aortic arch.  I had said my prayers this morning and included all who I could think of that have had circumstances lately.  Chief, Don B. and Chris, EDW, John B., Greg M., RT, John F. and your bride, Rich and family, Doug and the Middle boy, Sir James and family, Fife, Mitch, Jack, Doug Not a Grump, and Jon.  Sorry if I left anyone out.  If you need prayers lifted, let me know.

Well, gotta run to pharmacy and pick up some Rx and then head home.  I am all set for Valentine's Day.  Picked up flowers for bride yesterday and gave those to her.  That will throw her off as a big bunch of Roses are being delivered tomorrow.  Also picked up candy.  One thing that really makes them melt, send flowers to their mothers too....did it.

Hope everyone has a blessed day.

Dennis

Good afternoon all

Spent the morning at my favorite train store, bought a mth Ohio Central coil car for $26. It had a previous owner but unused. 38 degrees and very windy, kind of noisey outside. Take care all...S.J.

Mornin' All.

........Jack, Before retiring I used to fight with the sales staff and a/r people constsntly about the sales tax issue. If taxachussetts tries to collect a sales tax on goods sold & delivered in a surrounding state surely someone will take them to court. Whatever happened on the state income tax initiative ? Must agree on the Bag Balm, wish I had known about that stuff when we lived in the Co mountains.

Later All !

Doug...... regarding your first observation, you guessed correctly.  A friend of the court brief has been filed by the Mayor of Manchester NH to initite the NH opposition to the MA tax legislation that has already passed in MA.  The AG and Governor in MA conveniently forgot to run this stuff by the Governor in NH.  The NH brief states that the State of MA has no business legislating NH tax policy.

Re the state income tax debacle, please bear with me on the precision of my memory.  For those unfamiliar, The MA state legislature back in the very late 80s jacked the state personal income tax from 5 to 6.25% to balance the budget, with the promise to roll the rate back to 5% when the economy rebounded and things were back under control.

You guessed it, the rollback never happened.  After several stonewalled attempts by the state legislature over the next decade or so, the citizens finally got a rollback initiative on a ballot to force the rollback.  The ballot initiative was passed overwhelingly by the voters, 70% approval if I recall correctly, and the rollback commenced over time in.25% increments.  But the rollback stalled out when the legislature decided once again they knew better than the voting taxpayers.  The rollback stalled at 5.25% and has remained there for the past couple of years.

Any pol who dares suggest an increase in the state income tax again knows that it will be his/her last term in office.  So sales tax, sin taxes, and "fee" revenue are taking new and creative paths. AngryBanged Head

Good morning all, we're getting a one day repreve from the rain showers.  More predicted tomorrow.  At least my son and I got the pool filter cleaned out yesterday so that's one chore out of the way.

Chief, sorry to hear you have a touch of pneumonia.  Take care of yourself and listen to the Doc.  I'm assuming you are a non smoker.  That would be really rough if you were'nt.  I smoked for most of my life until a little over a year ago and now I'm paying the price with COPD.  I'm lucky it's not cancer.  Lucy sounds like a loving dog.  Now I know why you take such good care of her.

Greg, I first went to Gettysburg while attending York one year.  Was so impressed with it that I came back later that summer with my wife to spend a few days there around the anniversary of the battle.  Walked the fields where Picketts charge took place over to the angle on the Union side and back.  Very moving.  Saw re enactors camped out that week demonstrating Civil War camp life.  We also heard a Confederate band play that week at a local high school.  Had dinner one night at General Pickett's and stayed in a motel that was next door to General Lee's headquarters.  The best money I spent was getting a personal guide to take us all over the battlefields.  Well worth the price.  We also toured the Eisenhower farm next to the military park.

Have to get ready for my walk now.  Later,

Ray

Mornin' All.

Thanks for the B'Day wishes, extremely un-eventful day other than sending an e-mail to our doufus senators in D.C., it took great restraint to not use any four letter expletives.

Ole Timer, We have the tree issues all the time out here thanks to the early railroads and their importation on these useless Eucalyptus trees. Sometimes it doesn't even take any wind, the limbs will get to big and break off. I think it was maybe just over a year ago that a tourist in "Old Town" was killed by a falling limb.

Jack, Before retiring I used to fight with the sales staff and a/r people constsntly about the sales tax issue. If taxachussetts tries to collect a sales tax on goods sold & delivered in a surrounding state surely someone will take them to court. Whatever happened on the state income tax initiative ? Must agree on the Bag Balm, wish I had known about that stuff when we lived in the Co mountains.

Weather guessers are saying lite rain friday-saturday and another biggey on monday-wednesday.

Time to finish packing for friday museum run.

Later All !

Yikes ... woke up by a huge tree cracking and falling in my back yard ! A heck of a noise .... winds peaked over 70 mph. here last night . Man when I looked out the window our trees were bent in half ! Was hoping that new roof would stay ... it did ... thank the lord . It seemed like it took 30 seconds of horrible cracking and snapping sounds before she hit the ground .... does'nt sound like a long time but when you're all wide eyed and ears perked ... it is !

Good Mornin', Ya'll, from destitute Taxachusetts,

Some time back on the Pot we exchanged opinions on which states were the worst in terms of high cost of living and tax burdens.  I am proud to announce that Taxachusetts takes the #1 ranking seriously and will soon have the highest gasoline taxes in the nation, with a $.28 increase on the table before the legislature.  Other plans, putting toll booths up at the major border crossings with NH, RI, and CT.  NY border toll booths already up and operational, IS Route 90.  MA has requested lists of names and capital purchases from the governor of New Hampshire for the folks who drive over the border into NH to avoid the 5% MA sales tax.  Same with tire purchases!  State of MA is suing Town Fair Tire, largest tire distributor in the NE, which has franchises in MA and NH.....want the boys in NH to check for MA IDs, charge the sales tax, and send it to the MA Department of Revenue.  TAKE THAT YOU CA OVERTAXED WANNABEES!  Anything you can tax we can tax more. Angry Banged Head

Chief.....worried about you, but it sounds like you are taking all of the right precautions and are in good hands.  Get well!  BTW, that IS Grampy Jack kneeling in the background of that picture, at the ready while alligator puppy is pretending to just kiss granddaughter.  Lucy has the recilinerizing down pat!  Snoring is next.

DougDG.....happy belated Happy B-Day.  Nobody told me.  Hope you had too good of a party.

Brent......worried about almost stepping on the dog?  No problem.  It's what the Doberman does in response that you should be concerned about.  When you come to visit, wear a cup.  Smile,Wink, & Grin  Re the dog's posted ears as tall as TV rabbit ears and over the air digital HD reception (maybe not your comment)......the dog has reached an agreement in principle with a major cellular carrier for tower privileges.  Will soon have 4 bars in house and anywhere else I go with the dog. Thumbs Up

Fife.....how is that French accent working out with the perps?  Seems like your bullets expense may be on the rise. Evil

Brutus.....hope your wife gets well soon, MIL too.  Suggest you have your MIL come and stay with you until both are feeling better. Smile,Wink, & Grin

MikeC.....glad your wife is feeling better.  I hate it when my wife gets sick.  She has too much time on her hands thinking up things for me to do on top of her already lengthy honey do list.  I use the "I'm going out to buy you some ice cream" diversionary tactic and disappear.

GregM.....I'm with you.  While my grammar and high schools were big on history, the internet, the Military channel, the Discovery channel, and the History channel have all gotten my juices flowing again.  Sad to say when one gets into a conversation with others that they can't even tell you who was running for national office just a short time ago, despite 2 years of nauseating nonstop 24/7 media coverage.  Re the wind, I've got two downspouts that are the worse for wear, got to break out the ladder and do some work now that the snow drifts have subsided.

Patrick and Dennis......despite all of the teat jokes, etc., that Bag Balm has really worked as a superior moisturizer and anticeptic on the puppies ear tips.  We may be able to save one of the tips that has been struggling to survive due to a sore and circulation issues.  As you might expect, since Bad Balm isn't made by Estee Lauder, my wife decided she doesn't like the smell.  Hasn't convinced the dog yet.  She has to keep on investing in moisturizers that simply don't work.  How many partially used bottles of moisturizers do you guys have laying around throughout your house?  If you are like me, the amount can be measured in gallons, and for some reason wives can't bring themselves to throw out ANY of the ones that haven't worked over the decades.  "DON"T THROW THAT OUT!!!!!"  And the stockpile gets worse when they decide that a new and separate inventory is required for the children and the grandchildren. Banged Head

Jon......I had an executive assistant about 15 years back that got into bikes and worked her way up to the the 1000cc mark.  I asked her why she avoided HD and stuck with the Japanese bikes.  She in turn asked me how many Japanese bikes have I passed broken down on the side of the road.  Same with our dog trainer.  She's got 2, Yamaha and Honda.  But she points out that HD has come a long way since then, price notwithstanding.  My nephew has 2 HDs, would ride nothing else.  Choice is good, and the manufacturer competition has made it more so.

Later, gang.

Buckeye--

My Honda VTX was made in Ohio, I want to say Marysville but I may be wrong, sadly that bike along with the Goldwing will be produced back in Japan at any moment if it already hasn't happened.  They are converting that plant to producing more Honda cars, not one person is being let go--they will all roll over to car production.

Mike,

I think that Lost is much better this season.  The time travel seems very interesting.

Chief,

          Hope you feel better.

Patrick,

Thanks for the reminder about RFD.

This week has definitely been the toughest in a long time.  I've started taking the layout apart in my free time.  I don't know how I am going to rebuild.  It is a shame to throw away 13 years of work and start over.

Morning all. Grey and colder here -looks like that'll be so for the rest of the month. Have some errands to do today - my goal - in between work - is to do the FAFSA for my daughter's college.  It looks worse than tax forms. Ugh.

Jack, I heard on the radio yesterday that the reason dog shows have such a following is that it is addictive.  If this is the case, you may need to work on the 12 step program.Smile,Wink, & Grin.......

When I see the crowds at Madison Square Garden or read about the high TV ratings, I don't get it.  Personally, I don't understand the attraction to watching dog shows beyond my interest in seeing "the perfect physical specimen of the breed" thing and the breeds I like.  The other 90% is beyond me.  I suspect that it is this way for many others, hence the large and diverse viewing audience.

To maintain my viewing interest, I chalk it up to spending time doing stuff with my wife that she likes and get into betting with her on which dog will win its group or best in show.  Like me and the horses or the lottery, I don't pick winners very well.  And if my dog's breed strikes out, I cry "FOUL!!!!!" Big Smile

Got strange phone call from DR.  Seems I have a slight case of pneumonia [my yearly thing about this time].  She sends me to big radiology place requesting a fast read.  I usually get a call in the next 30 minutes.  They must have emailed her the results and xray [they do that digitally now].  Anyway, got to go back to Raleigh to see her this afternoon before she will allow me to fly out tomorrow.  I thought I had it all along.  I can tell by activity and shortness of breath as this will be 6th time I have had it.

 Good Morning All:

What a difference a day makes! Today the temperature and wind speed are the same - at 50.

I have yesterday to remember. 70 degrees, no wind, sunny, 3 hours on the deck sitting, grilling, reading CTT . Not normal for central Virginia in mid Feb. Probably upset Al Gore to the point he had to get into his gas guzzling jet and fly around the world several times, polluting the atmosphere  as he goes, to think about it.

Did you know MTH is coming out with Proto-Sound 2.0? Oh -Wait -That was a  10 Yr. old CTT I was reading.

Very windy last night.  Woke Karen up so she made sure I heard the wind blowing too.    Went outside this morning and checked for any damage.  Can't see any on our house but some of the siding is off of a house down the street.

Checked the new job posting emails this morning.  Nothing relevant, so wait until tomorrow and try again.

Snow is predicted for later today so I am going to take books back to the library this morning and will watch the Nascar qualifying races if they are on TV.

We planned to visit Gettysburg and other civil war places if we did move to PA.  Should have done it during a previous York trip but didn't.  Watched a couple shows on the History channel about the battles at Gettysburg and Antietam yesterday.  They were repeats but still interesting.  What's funny is that I really didn't like history in school, today, I am very interested in history.  Maybe it's an age thing.

Going to do a little research and see if I can figure out the name of the "coal" product.  I checked the container to see if it was on it but it isn't.

Off to get coffee and breakfast.  Hope that sobers me up.  No coughing but I can not type worth a hoot. LaughLaugh

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps dropping and very windy.  Was not 100% yestreday so just did weights and soccer ball juggling last night.  Went to bed after "Lost".  That show gets stranger and stranger with each episode.  The "saucy wench" wants to thank all who made get well comments as she is feeling better today.  Worked the last day and a half on a report at work only to be told that it was not needed.  Grrrrrr!  I had the regular fare on the dining car this morning.  I will have the beacon lit again as there is no TV tonight.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Morning!

Someone from Eco Center was out canvassing in the rain last night..."They" (lobbist 'activist' group) want to get the 'toxics' (whatever "they" consider "toxics" to be) out of children's toys.

Well it was about 7:15pm, still making dinner and awaiting Bride's arrival.  Dog, barking, children running laps and screaming, and this guy comes to the door.  Told him I wasn't interested...dog runs out to play with him, both kids at the door asking 20 questions...  He hesitates, and says ..."uh ok, I can see you're busy".

...he he...New greeting for the door to doorers!  Smile,Wink, & Grin  Let me know if you need to borrow the brood!

 Good Morning Folks,

I don't have too leave so early this AM so I thought I'd stop and sit for a spell.  Coffee is nice and strong this AM just like I like it.  Schools are closed Monday so I am looking forward to the long weekend.   The new Gettysburg National Military Park Visitor Center and the just opened, newly renovated, Wills House in downtown Gettysburg are offering free admission this weekend (Friday - Monday).  The Wills House (where Lincoln spent the night) is right on the corner at the center of town just a short walk from the restored Train Station where Lincoln arrived prior to his famous speech.  Hope to get there to see all three this weekend.  Nothing like free admission to draw a crowd.

Great to hear that Dennis may make it to York, maybe that will get the Chief motivated to visit the world famous Eastern Division TCA Meet.  Been looking at an MTH Flying Yankee set with PS 2.0. Has anyone here on the Pot got one, seen one or run one?  Saw one that sold for $260 on eBay. I was thinking about the Lionel Repro that they just issued,  but there's a new thread that mentioned runability issues.  The originals are either too much $$$ or their condition is shaky best, plus the fact that I am very cheap. Smile,Wink, & Grin

Not much planned for Valentine's Day.  We may be going out to dinner with a friend. No fancy dinner with candlelight, moonlight and violins for us. I did order some special chocolates. Need to get a card. Our son called and was discussing V Day gifts for his GF.  They have been dating since October.  Ahhh... young love.

Well, I better get moving. Have to get showered and on the road by 7:00.

Have a great day.

Codeine kicking in.  Just got off the phone talking to Shake and Bake.  Had to beg off in a hurry.  Dropped the phone twice at the end from falling asleep.  Just nodded off here while screen was changing.  Good night.

Man, I love those old Pink Panther movies!  "It was a minky with a bumb!"  "Zat is not my dog!"

Are the new ones any good?  Peter Sellers was just the best.

A little train stuff today - mostly picked up some supplies to make a prototype for a project...

Rained all day here - temps dropped all day and now it's in the 30's again.  Wife is sick - told her and told her to call doc for 3 days now, but she wouldn't do it.  Now she is coughing, has a temp, and just laying in a recliner and moaning.  Chief, what do you suggest?  She's allergic to codiene :(  Doc called in some asthma meds so hope that helps.

In other news, the mother-in-law is sick too so no visit this weekend.  Need to see if I can get my overtime back, I cancelled it since they were visiting.

Tardis is ready and this time I'll pick up Charlie first and then the rest of yuz guys, lol!

Doug W (NOT A GRUMP) Happy B-Day

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Here is zee roadmap to romanz (from RR east to west - follow along):

Take zee rte 51/Industrial Bulleevard huh-huh huh huh-huh-huh, to PPG Rd and stop at zee Park at North Branch.  Next, check out zee acshun at zee famous overlook from Mehico Farmz, again off of rte 51.  Then onto zee roundhouse of luvvvv, located at Virginia Avenue and E Offut.  A more secluded spot for zee pashun is off Wineow St, behind zeee warehouses.  At Front St and E Harrizon (across from zee Holiday Inn), is zee Station du Amtrak, no? Jes!  Next, you must seek Viaduct Junction off Knox St (parallel to Henderson).  You may toss zee cookies into zee Wills Crique from the bridge over N.Lee St.  Zen, for zee most romantic ezperiounce, go to the Bud board off rte 40 at the east end of zee Narrowz (look for zee ***-cat, jes!). Take ze 40 west to Locust GroveRd, making zee right turn to the west end of zee Narrows.  Next, take zee rte 36 towards Corriganville, taking zee left onto Cash Valley Rd, up to zee Helmstetters no? Jes!

For zee fine dineeng, check out Geatzes restauraaahnt at Paca St and Smallwood (maybe closed on Sunday).

And remember, two longs, one short, and one long, is zee call of luvvvv.....

Looks like shake and bake may have a little less train money soon according to yahoo news

" LOS ANGELES – A big share of the financial burden of raising Nadya Suleman's 14 children could fall on the shoulders of California's taxpayers, compounding the public furor in a state already billions of dollars in the red. "
