Morning all. Still snowing here - supposed to snow all day - don't mind the workout pushing it around every few hours. Looks like the middle boy wants us to go to his wrestling meet - an hour drive in the snow. Hmmm. Probably will. Got nothing else going on today. Warning the bride about what she'll see there. Forum was down late last night.

Ray, I'd go join the TCA for the friendships. Heck, that's my favorite part of the hobby!
Good deals, RT.
Fife, I love those NASCAR 1:43 cars.
Chief
, may Ming recover swiftly.
Kurt
, got the LED. Can't wait to try it. Will let you know later this weekend. Thanks again.
Jim
, Don's car also had a thumbdrive - took me a while to figure out how to work it. First you take your digital pictures and put them from your camera onto your computer. Then, you plug the drive into a USB port on your computer. Then your computer will recognize it and it will pop up on your compute desktop, then you can drag your photos to the drive or copy them to it however you do that. Then eject the drive, and you're all set. Copies should be on it.

Laz's to do list for Saturday, January 10,2009

        1) Work on train layout from 1000 - 1630 hours. *

       2) Watch football from 1630 - 2300 hours. **

       3) Go to bed.

        * - Denotes NO PILE UPS

** - Denotes sustainance of YINGS and WINGS

It's all about helping each other.

rt - My other collection is 1:43 NASCAR diecast, so I have picked up a couple of the flatcars for $10 a pop.  Will repaint flat into something else.

Morning all!

Been building pallets...really small ones.  Pics Sunday.

Doug:  Did you receive the LED?  Did it work for you?  Need more?????  I think I know a place.

Dennis:  I'm still scratching my head about the Church and State thing...The sad part is that people believe that's what's actually in the Constitution.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cloudy 32 degrees. Suppose to get freezing rain later. Not going much higher than 32 today. No snow yet.

Today is a busy day. The usual chores around the house. I plan on running trains later. Need to get on a schedule. Not too much new here.

Dining car was here and we had the usual for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Saturday.

Fifedog 90% of it is prices I can't turn down and figure if I get 90 % might as well get it all lol. the only 2 that aren't prices you can't turn down are the 2 dale expansion packs but there even marked down some. lol. They would make an nice display on the shelves in the train room figure if you add the expansions sets to the 2 regular make 2 real nice trains.

Morning all.  Up early [Lucy is home].  Off to Miss Edna's.  Taking my aux antenna for all to see.  That way we will know what to tell folks if they come in and complain about Legacy signal loss problems.   Sunny and cooler.  Got to get leaves up this afternoon.  Got fire dept yearly meal tonight [they do not do a Christmas meal but wait until Jan. and have one].  Chat later.

Mornin' boys.  Overcast & 29 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Feels like SNOHIZO, but nothing falling yet.  Hope my RAVENS can send Kerry and Co home....and hoping Pittsburgh reigns supreme over SANDY-EGGO.  Whata season!

Chief - before you posted the update on Ming, I was gonna guery about the whereabouts of the cat...  Oh, and Buckeye is ok, just sequesturing himself on Google reading about the B&O.

Phish - I remember a daring layout "expansion" by our own dbaker a couple seasons ago.  Perhaps you could follow his example...

...speaking of dbaker, understand he had a little more SHAKE to his bake this week.

EDW, as often seems to be the case, I disagree.  When we say "living document", it is not about amendments, they are good and certainly included for good reason.  What they are trying to do is interpret things that have been part of the constitution from the beginning, take for example, the 2nd amendment.  Some try to say that the founding fathers only meant it as a militia to fight the British and not an individual right.  They also try to say that the constitution says "separation of church and state",,,,it does not.  It just says that the state shall not establish a religion.

OK, now to what we can agree on.  TRAINS!  I have a package on the dining room table that was sent down from NJ.  I have hopes that this contains trains of some sort....but will have to wait till tomorrow to find out.  Kids have Chinese lessons today, so the Mrs and I will have a few hours alone.  Was asked what I want to do today...if I don't get called in, I plan to do some work on the layout.  Have to finally cut that Plexiglas that I plan to use on the control panel.

Good night or should I say Morning all.  That is the only thing wrong with 3rd shift never no if you are coming or going. I have been spending a lot of time in the train room. I should have some pics of the changes in S.F.F. just need to get the bride to show me how to upload the pics to Flickr again. Once they are in Flickr I don't have a problem getting them here. Tried to get on and do a little catching up earlier in the night but when loading the page the computer kept timing out, site must have been real slow. Speaking of dogs friend of mine from work has a 1 year old lab that just finished surgery Wednesday night for a blockage. They removed a piece of a Kong bone. I guess you put treat in the end's of it. Not the one shaped like the Michelin man. Vet told him that he has removed a few of those. So if you have a dog that is an aggressive chewer be careful with those. Looks like today should be pretty laid back. With the winter storm here my sons soccer game was canceled. I got the grocery shopping done Friday instead of Sunday morning Just in case the roads were still bad. So I am sure it will be a day of games, snow fort building, sled riding, movies and hot chocolate for us .Well that is all for now need to get some sleep before the little ones wake up. Talk later and and have a great day all.

Chief- I hope ming does OK.

Sturg, thanks.  A blessing is is needed.  Frankie just got off the phone.  They did NOT find anything blocking.  The mass was a gas bubble.  Vet opend his tummy and found irritated lining.  Took bio just in case.  May have something that irritated it.  He may have to be on tummy meds for the rest of this life [like some people].  Frankie did say he took a 500mg vit. C each day.  Told him to tell vet.  I was taking two 500's and Dr. told me to stop as it was irritating my tummy.  Its acid.  I take only one.  Ming is a lot smaller than me.  He is recovering fine. Its wait and see.  Big deal was sneaking Frankie out of the inaugaral ball.  He is swat and they were sitting hidden in a small room in full gear.  They could not let him be seen with the gear on and no one could see swat was there and where they were hidden.  Cptn got him out.  No inaugral duty tomorrow.

Bed time.

Evening all

At work on "lunch" break.  Been a good night so far, lots getting done.  The drive home in the morning may be interesting.

Kurt - I have not written the homily yet but when it's done, by the end of the month, I'll send you a copy.

Wes- With your car was a thumb drive, what am I to do with it?  It is a nice car, I've got an idea for pictures but I have not had the time to take them yet.  I don't have any new ones for SPF yet!

Buckeye- There is always tomorow

I received a 751 Log loader today.  Works fine but needs some cosmetic clean up.  It has a bigger footprint than I anticipated.  Gotta get a bigger layout.  I wonder if I could make a pass through tunnel into the adjoining bedroom????

May God bless

Sir J, you are right about slow.

edw, I would not go there.  Careful.  History is right.  It was the Northern states that did not want to do away with salvery.  Why?  Their ships were the way they got the slaves to America.  Lets change the subject.  Thanks

Frankie's new dog Ming is in emergency surgery.  Mass in his tummy.  May have swallowed Loralynn's [his wife] cat's toy.

Later.

Doug, yeah, I am registered Republican, but will not vote for anyone who is not conservative.  I am more of a constitutionalist...it should be in the framework of the founders, and no, it is not a "living document", read that, we can make it anything we want attitude.  At this point, I have not seen a candidate I really like since Reagan.  Just my opinion, so no flames.

Dennis, I have to disagree with you. Our Constitution is very much a living document, just as the founders intended it to be. That’s why it has been amended 27 times over the years.

Take the issue of slavery, for example. When drafting the Constitution, our founding fathers deliberately chose not to ban the institution of slavery. In fact, in Article IV, Section 2, they even went so far as to write in a specific provision that could be used to force the return of runaway slaves.

It wasn’t long, however, before citizens of conscience were demanding the abolition of slavery as an immoral violation of basic human rights. It was clear to many that our Constitution was just plain wrong on this issue, and no amount of blind adherence to the “framework of the founders” could ever justify the institution of slavery.

It would take a Civil War to resolve this issue, and amend the living document to finally correct the founding fathers' most grievous mistake.

One can argue that the founding fathers did what they had to do in order to get the country started. As such, they came up with a document that was full of compromises and contradictions (e.g. extolling human rights while at the same time permitting slavery).  The Constitution was a product of its time, and the founders knew full well that the document they created was far from perfect.

History shows us that they hardly expected their words to be cast in stone. In fact, they themselves started amending it almost as soon as it was written (ten amendments within the first three years).

I’d like to think that, even today, they are smiling approvingly as future generations of Americans have refined and improved upon their initial effort. The abolition of slavery (13th Amendment), granting women the right to vote (19th Amendment), baring discrimination based on race (15th Amendment) and more recently, granting 18 year olds the right to vote (26th Amendment), are just a few examples of items that are NOT found anywhere in the Constitution, as originally written.

p.s. to the moderators, we’re talking History here, not politics Wink

Very quiet day today.  Nice weather but no place to go.  I took one more stab at the phone company this morning to try and get my extra line hooked back up.  That was a waste of time.  After 10 days of waiting, tech tells me I will need to wait three more days just to find out if it is possible to turn the line back on.

Ran some trains in the garage after weather warmed up.  Running SP two unit SD45T-2 engines with long merchandise freight train and Santa Fe GP20 two unit set with a piggyback train.  All MTH proto 2 DCS.  I also gave my A-B-B-A Atlantic Coast Line F units Proto 1 a work out on a long freight.  They still run good after a long spell of sitting.  Engine has a BCR though which eliminates battery problems.

I have reached that age where a lot of my friends are disappearing through moving, death, old age or what ails you.  I'm thinking about rejoining TTOS here for more comraderie and a better train meet than the one I belong to at TCA.  TCA is big on the national level but very small here in our local division.  Not much action on buying and selling.  Of course with the economy in the tank, who knows what the future will bring.  Seems like you have to give things away now to sell anything.  E Bay et al have killed the train meets anyway.  I am really tired of paying big bucks for this new electronic stuff which I don't expect to last very long.  I love all the bells and whistles but you can only buy so much.

Have a nice week end y'all

Question - If Buckeye emerges and see his shadow, will it mean 6 more weeks of winter...? Dunce

Nope, it is 6 months for his rule.  Shock

Back from fancy real Italian restaurant.  Can't even pronounce its name.  FULL.  Free meal [like crazy, spent $1,000 there in August for Pam's 50th party].  Later.

88 - Be careful.  Basic rule of thumb: each beverage contains approx .02 alcohol.  Average body disapates .02 alcohol per hour.  Hence, 3 drinks in one after hour will leave you with about .04.  Kinda makes you wonder about the doodles who can blow a .24.....whoa.

Chief, glad Lucy is doing well.  She will be up and at em soon.

Doug, thanks.  Probably will be a subdued celebration as I am still on call.  Perhaps we will run some trains!

A couple of things I have been wanting to post:

DVRed a program on South Dakota the other day...most of the program was on their railroad herritage.  Was on RFD-TV, so I am sure you will see it again.

Also caught a Trains and Locomotives program on Indiana rail.  Lots of steam and early diesel with some nostalgic video of some NMRA events with classic steam.

Lastly, DIY has been starting to show the "Workin' On The Railroad" program again.  Right now, they are the same episodes from last year, but if we show enough support and ask that they include more "O guage" shows, we may get a good program, we can all enjoy.

Have a blessed weekend,
Dennis

In the office and back from meeting.  That is always one of the good meetings I have to attend.  Things get done to help with the County [solid waste, waste water, animal control, restaurant inspections, water quality and sedimentation control].  Now to go home as Lucy is back.  When I left, she was NOT bouncing off the furiture and was being calm.  She also had teeth pulled while sedated.  Seems she had extra teeth.  The assoc. vet had told Pam they were OK.  The main vet [we have trusted for years] said "come out".  Chat later.

Isn't it fun how toy-trains brings us all together - with grits as glue I guess - given my crazed-liberal politics. Wink

May I be the first one to wish Dr. Dennis many happy felicitations and returns of the day in anticipation of the national celebration of his birth this Sunday...  Thumbs UpBow
