I think I am going to go with the SP&S 700. I think it is about as classic looking as a 4x8x4 gets. I am also fond of the NYC Niagra. Diesel wise, I think I like the SD-40-2 with the extended porch. I know that none of my choices are very unique, but I think there are reasons why classics are classics.

I really prefer the classic EMD, SD-40 nose compared to modern noses.

This is hard. PA-1's, E-6's, FM switchers (ugly in a good way) F's, GP's, SD's. The SD-7's and 9's and the GP's with dynamics are pretty imbedded in my mind's eye. I like your smilie lash-ups, glennbob. [(-D][bow][bow][bow][(-D]

The GN had a lot of strange locomotives. They didn't like to put any weight on non-driving wheels. They didn't want to throw away anything so many of their articulated were home built from older fixed frames. Even many of their "standard" wheel arrangements locomotives weren't like any other locomotive with that same wheel arrangment. That is actually the reason I stopped modeling the GN. To hard, to expensive, too much research for even the easiest details.

My favorite locomotive has to be one I've seen for real so .... AT&SF Zebra Stripe RS-4 that used to switch the passenger trains at Pueblo Colorado.

Based upon my experiences as a railroader, the old SD40-2 is my favorite.

Not what I consider the best steamer, the N&W J, or the best electric, the New Haven EF-4, or the best overall diesel, the Amtrak FP-40, but my really favorite locomotive of all time is the Pennsy E-6 Atlantic.

Very nice selection, there, Brunton.
I am more partial to the M-2 2-6-8-0 and the
N-3 2-8-8-0, myself. I like articulateds-and anything GN.
My favorite ACTIVE loco is SP&S 700.
