Hello all. I will take a Guiness,Tom, before you prepare for Texas. Have a safe, fun, adventure.
Russell, we were around the Kansas Ave. yard Saturday evening before heading out to Elwood and chasing a train clear to Ash Grove. Decided to chase it because it had a beautiful green BN SD40-2 on the point and a blonde behind the throttle! Sunday afternoon we checked out the Kansas ave. yard after shopping. If I had known you were so close.
The footbridge crosses what's left of the North yard. The oncoming shot looks east. To the left of the main line were extensive facilities for maintaining steamers and across the underpass was 1 of 3 roundhouses Frisco had at one time here. The going away shot looks west towards the current yard. Broadway is the street crossing the east end of the yard which must be where the burned house of the friend is located. Living here all my life, I am very familiar with this area. Currently, BNSF is trying to convince the city to close this crossing so the remote control yard engines can cross it without a man on the ground. They are using the usual argument about safety but according to the numbers, this is the safest crossing for miles!
BTW, the WW2 sub found recently that I was referring to was the U.S.S. Lagarto. I forget who asked for the name but there' tis!
Borrowed some more mags from the museum. Several called Slim Guage News from the early 70s. Evidently the mag did'nt last long. Mostly modeling but a lot of prototype info. Always heard about Alpine Tunnel-now have an article about it to read. Am I the only narrow guage nut here?
Tom, loved the pix of the Sguage. Mop and Frisco rolling stock. Reminds me of my misspent youth! Another Guiness, please. About the 60th anniversary of VJ Day. I for one am glad we had a President with a backbone to order the Abomb drop. We did not start the war but we finished it. My father would have probably had to be in on the invasion of Japan as he was an Army engineer. The casualties would have been staggering on both sides and I more than likely would have not been here. Once is enough on the bell, Boris!!

Hi early.......[:D]no sirree bob, you're not the only narrow gauge "nut" here. If I can figure it out, check my signature pics in the (distant) future. Jeff

Greetings All; hate to sound dumb, but maybe one of ya can help me out with posting pics. Wanted to send Ted a picture of a Coal Drag coming out of Helper/ Castle Gate Utah on the helper end. It's a wintertime pic with lotsa steam, one of my favorites. Talk about horsepower to the ground, you can almost feel it! Also would like help putting pics as part of the signature at end of post. Ted; once I send you that pic, I will never again use it as it becomes yours to enjoy and a memory of your 67th! Jeff

[bday] To You [bday] To You [bday] Ted Kramer [bday] To You! 67! [yeah] [wow] [swg]

I made it! Hello to all from Dallas, Texas ...... better late than never! Looks like this party is off 'n runnin' and going strong! [yeah][tup][tup][tup]

What a day I've had down here in hot, steamy and humid Dallas. *** Watkins has outdone the best of 'em insofar as hospitality is concerned and has completely worn me out with all the travels aboard heavy rail (RDC's) - light rail and trolleys - along with tours of the DART inspection and repair facility - and the McKnney Avenue Trolley Barn. [wow] - double [wow]! Yes, there are lots 'n lots of pictures - but rather than monopolize this fine evening with my stuff, let's concentrate on the Birthday Boy Himself!

You have now reached MY age, my friend. May your years ahead be filled with good health, good times and good health! Cheers! [tup][tup][tup][bday]

More later ..........

Well everythings brewing nicely back there-looks like a bit of a Tex-Mex thing happening with the food, hoping Boris has remembered the difference between teaspoon & tablespoon on the seasoning...speaking of Boris,I noted several pages back,a request from [4:-)] TOM for a fuller picture of our favourite science project. So,with all due respect to Darwin, here goes. My initial mental picture was of a cross between Manuel, the hapless Fawlty Towers waiter and Baldrick, appalling manservant to Blackadder with perhaps a dash of the little mechanic in Taxi. Happily, the rest of you were happy to run with the ball and in short order he has become progressively more Gothic & "Mittel Europ" ,passing rapidly thru the Munster & Addam`s familys and Gene Wilder as Igor in Young Frankenstein. Current research suggests that he was raised in the Carpathian Mountains,in a village so remote that his native dialect is spoken by about 200 people and his first exposure to any form of industrialised society was his landing at the Can-Am`s Juneau Beach Pier Station. From there he hitched a ride with ROB on the night crew-change trolley, fell off passing our place, woke up,crawled in,spotted an opportunity and went for it and has remained ever since, O.K.-as it`s quite a bit later at this end of the bar,I`m going to put a brave face on things and do the moonlight mile-----oh by the way TED--I spoke to Cindy earlier and she said several of the girls from the college would be happy to come and dance for us( as long as we paid them first ) to liven up the Mariarchi band I booked to go with the Tex-Mex cuisine that GUNNS threw at me-enjoy everybody, happy birthday Ted---night all, nick [C=:-)]

Gentlemen!

There is no way that I could or would attempt to address each and every post of this fine day for our friend Ted on the occasion of his 67th Birthday. So, suffice it to say, a huge thanx and lots of appreciation to those of you who took the time to participate - no matter what the time of day. [tup][tup][tup]! [swg]

Any questions directed at me in these posts will have to wait until my return home for a response. It's been a long day - I'm tired! - and it's time for me to hit the sack in preparation for tomorrow's madness at the Dallas-Ft. Worth airport and the trip back to St. Louis. Lord o' Lord how I wish Amtrak and the Texas Eagle could be more affordable for bedroom accommodations and reliable insofar as on-time-performance is concerned. It isn't in both cases - so American Airlines, come 'n take me away!

See y'all later in the day on Wednesday!

G'nite! [zzz]

As Ya know, its after 11:00 pm here and between the high blood pressure potion, bouble Dourbons, Nick's sense of humor (hickup) and the clean-up before Tom gets back...Arrgh, "I wanna go home." Belchh! Oh well, "its all part of growing up!" May I bid all of you a safe and pleasant ride home and may there never be blue and red colored fog in the rear view. Me myself, I'm taking Tish Gearhart's Village Funeral Home limo service to house...w/oxygen. Many thanks to all for the fine "Bash."[:D] Little did I expect such a great "turnout." Okay, G'bless and Leon, you've been the epitome of decorum and I take my leave knowing "Our" Place is in the best of mitts hands. Good night to all and thanks again, Ted.

I sent you a birthday funny hope you enjoyed it[tup] Nick I now know why the tomlinson couple was soooo badley bent on the back of ole #327. It must have been Boris's head impacting it when he fell off. Tom Sounds like *** put on one heck of a show for you, can't wait for the pics.Oh Ted BTW your birthday presant has arrived a fday pass on the London and port stanley the only downside is that you will need Leon's time machine as the ticket was dated 1945. Sorry! i'm museum bound tomorrow but I will attempt to stop by for the rest of the clean-up. Oh if you want some TTC crimson and creame to cover the VIA colours Tom let me know. Later gents Rob.

hi I'm back quickley. Tom You can do an interurban run on the s-guage. You don't need towns just model the line in between tree's rocks etc.alot of the canadian radial lines ran in fairly rural environs. One example would be the Nippising Central ( owned by the Temiskaming and Northern Ontario, preasant day Ontario Northland ) I bet Nick's eyes just perked up. Anywho the NC ran between Northbay to Hailyberry and over to Cobalt. Anyone familiar with north central Ontario will know that little lies in between theses cities still today. After the hailyberry fire( lightening strike ) which took out most of downtown and many of the homes the NC stopped running. The Northlander absorbed the traction line completly in '48 and to this day still provides bus service between the towns.A good twenty miles worth of poles wire and track were destroyed by the fire as well. An interesting side story was that the TTC sent 50 retired streetcar bobies old double and single truck TR cars to Haliberry for use as residences. Today the town still has one of the old DT cars and uses it as a museum to the "great fire " Well I'm off again. Rob

Lordhawke, I can see your picture if I go directly to the I-net address, so you're doing that part right. What you need to do to see the picture in your post is imbed that link between a "img" and "/img" (in brackets). Like this (without spaces.
[img http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a320/Lordhawke/DRG2.jpg /img]
Both the beginning and last [img] need to be in brackets. I didn't do that in the above line, so you could see the general format. Finally, the last [img] needs a slash (/) in front of it. This is just like your other font commands like bold and underline. CLick on the bold icon while editting to see what I mean. You can do this!

Mornin' Gang!

Just Siberianmo from Big-D checkin' in ...... Have plenty of time this mornin' to get off the SUMMARY, grab a bite and head off to the airport for the return to St. Louis.

From the gist of the posts, Ted received quite a tribute from one and all for his Birthday. This place is in need of an explosion - then rebuild it from the ground up! Boris and Leon are doing a commendable job in restoring things to normalcy. [tup]

I'm not going to be addressing all comments you've made regarding me just yet. However, I'll get there .....

As I mentioned last night, the day with *** here in Dallas was fantastic. This is one fine place for railroading and *** is a fantastic host with an impressive amount of knowledge regarding all aspects of rail transportation in these parts. I'll put together a report of sorts, with some pix, and I'm sure you'll agree with my assessment. The RDC's were the highlight - rode up in the cab for a 40 mile round trip - what a treat, an absolute treat indeed. DART has 13 of the former VIA Rail cars and they are in wonderful condition after being totally gutted and refurbished up in Montreal as part of the purchase agreement. I doubt that there's a fleet of opeating RDC's of this quantity or higher anywhere in the world. This experience will remain with me for the rest of my days as a positive and happy memory! Thanx *** Watkins for being my driver, tour guide and friend! [tup][tup][tup]

Cindy is back behind the bar and will take care of your every want, whim and desire! Don't ya just wish Be on your best behavior, boys, 'til the Chief Barkeep returns! [}:)][:-,]

See y'all later this afternoon or evening.

"...and a grand time was had by all." Cindy, if you can find the coffee urns, I'd like a "skull buster" size cuppa Joe, "leaded," please. Tom, you're estimate is probably right: "clean it and burn it." Save the bell however. We know from Gunns what a restoration job that can be.[:O] Rob, love the 2 pix on your last Post. The "Class A's" worn by the guys boarding old #12 says a lot with one Soldier hand-in-hand with his Toddler and the others boarding for, "who knows where?" I wouldn't want to be the driver of the hand car with the snow blade. Picture hitting a drift with a "lump" in it![xx(] The TCC crimson and cream really looks sexy on the brow of the PCC peeking out in front of the Whitt.[^] BTW, great e-mail![tup] Lordhawke Jeff, know what you mean 'bout posting pix. I "gave it a shot" and ended up in the "rubber room" for 2 days.[banghead] However, barndad's memo cleared up some mistakes I made. Hey Jeff, I definately must look into the frozen "Tex Mex" arsenal foods for here at home. In Florida they think kidney beans and "Sloppy Joe" filler is a dish fit for Pancho Villa.[V]

[C=:-)]Nick, I'm totally amenable to the chorus line of Senoritas complimenting the Mariarchi band. As to paying in advance, let's see what Tom thinks of that arrangemnet. At last audit, the "bathtub funds" are solvent enough, so why not?[tup] Okay Boris, grab the clapper cord and "heave to." The first 'round for "sick call" is on me.[(-D] Welcome back Tom, we are all awaiting your synopsis from "Big D."[tup] Happy rails everyone, Ted

Good morning everyone. Cindy I'll have a nice tall mug of coffee and a couple of doughnuts from the bakery please..thanks.

Glad you had a great time last night Ted. Boris and Leon worked all night cleaning up, and that was just the inside. Tom may have to get a bobcat to clean up the outside.

Tom, hope you had a great time in Dallas [C):-)]. Boris and Leon should have everything cleaned up by the time you get back.

Keep working on your photo posting Jeff. You'll be posting pics like a pro in no time.

Thanks Dan for your input on the ramp in Springfield. Wonder if a real circus train went through there.

Cindy, another cup of java please

Hi again, thought I'd check in to see how things are coming along with the "refurb." I'll need to make a withdrawal from "petty cash" for more paint thinner. Boris, after our "discussion" on the artistic merits of "free form" painting; I'm trusting you to cease and desist all temptation for applying bru***o pigment. Russell has something there with the "Bobcar" solution. I'll get that underway a.s.a.p.! Oh yes Russell, I've noticed such ramps before in a number of yards and near freight stations. Sometimes, there are two {book ends) and a lengthy wooden loading platform between them but not always. If only one is at the stub end of a derail, mosy likely it was for car-to-car loading (as per circus). Okay, I'm on my way and Jemima has come in to baby sit assist Boris with customers. Hope to look back in before Leon does a "shake down" and locks-up tonight. Tom may want to "burn some midnight oil" when he sees the receipts and "pay-outs" since Tuesday night.[:O] See ya soon, Ted

Afternoon everyone [:)]. Ted, I'll have my usual.

OHHHKAYYYYYY brace yourselves. This isn't pretty. I know the theme here is "CLASSIC TRAINS", but this falls in the territory of heritage. For safety, I'll put up a warning label:

WARNING- NOT SUITABLE FOR THE WEAK OF HEART OR WHILE CONSUMING FOOD OR BEVERAGE

Greetings All! Back behind the bar and from the looks of things, all is normal 'round here. [tup] A slow day, however ...........

Thanx to Ted for overseeing the staff and keeping things going in my absence - also to you all, for keeping the posts flowing - not to mention the brew! [swg]

Now there is one item that always seems to need reinforcing during times when I'm gone: Boris is not a bartender, nor is he to be allowed to work behind the bar. Given the write-up of Nick regarding Boris' background - it should be evident that we need to limit his access to certain things, people and places. See Nick's post on page 78 .......

Have a bit of a setback regading my pictures from Dallas - a quality issue. Photo's did not turn out well and I'm looking at trying to locate a software package to help me enhance them. There are a few dozen different iterations out there, mainly overkills for novices such as I - but I do need to do something in order to salvage as many as possible. Nothing wrong with the camera - it's either me or I didn't pay close enough attention to the 7 zillion different settings available! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. [sigh] Well, this isn't a camera forum nor a camera thread, so I'm [#offtopic] - Boris Ring the bell!

See ya later!

Happy Railroading! Siberianmo
