The way to the Delson museum is a little tricky for out-of-towners: highway 20 from downtown to the Mercier bridge exit (5 min. ride), then cross the bridge and take the left exit off the said bridge, proceed on the same road (through the Mohawk reservation[C):-)]) untill you reach a sign directing you to turn right for the museum. A total of maybe 15 or 20 minutes from downtown Mtl (Montreal).

Thanx for the info regarding Delson - thought it was closer to Ottawa than Montreal. That changes things a bit. However, with the airline costs skyrocketing, that November trip may not occur.

Hi again everyone. Same way again Tom, if you please. Thought I'd "drop in" to catch a few more "toasts." Wow, there are some really great thoughts being "tossed down" hereabouts. This is truly a remarkable group.[tup] "Four great minds, one great thought!" That's all I can say about the Australia/New Zeland commentary, although the other bona fide scheduled trips in Alaska, the lower 48 and Canada are my personal priorities. I guess I fall into the less than enchanted group regarding "dinner or wine tasting" ventures.

Part of the interest in rail travel is the "cross section" of diverse folks and stories that usually evolve in the Tavern/Lounge or Club Cars. While I realize the individuality of the "fallen flags" trains is no longer possible; I still prefer revenue earning, public transportation to special catered affairs for the wealthy or aficionados of narrow tastes and worldly experience. Certainly, it is great to see examples of profit making special "excursion" trains e.g., the "U.S. Orient Express." I love the Alco FA's on the Napa Valley Train, even knowing the locos should be PA's. Still, something bothers me when I see a former N.Y.Central "boat tail" observation from the luxurious 20th Century Limited "refurbed" into a "rec. room" or "Penny Arcade" for baby sitting the kids. Maybe the truth is more that I see treasured icons from my younger years relegated to abject commercial exploitation. Just knowing I'll never ride such trains again is depressing enough without further desecration.

But hey, this is a happy occasion, not a wake! Let's hear some more "toasts" to "We few, we happy few..." (Harold of England?).[:D] Right Leon, this will be a "night cap" and I must add that the crimson sash across your tuxedo jacket, festooned with those military medals and "spit polished" jump boots adds a stunning "touch of class" formerly occupied by Boris' chicken fat stained apron, clodhoopers and German helmet (Stahlhelm, right Gunns?) O.K,Back for the second half,-how about a couple of "freight train blues"-nice little groovin` numbers that will get `em up & dancin--Midnight special by Leadbelly,Love in vain by Robert Johnson,Well well well by Michelle Shocked,all over now,a big dose of Chuck Berry,-and for the slow section,how about Muddy Waters,John Lee Hooker & T-Bone Walker, I could go on all night,bit of a blues thing-trouble is,the rest of the music I play is rather too extreme for this company.....it looks like time for me to get back into the kitchen,force Boris to clean up that disgusting mess he`s been sleeping in-by the way,who told him he could sleep indoors-he has a perfectly good shed out back-I`ve slept in it myself so can vouch for its comfort...enough....another short break[C=:-)]

Ted Couldn't have expressed those sentiments any better - I feel the same way about those marvelous passenger trains of days gone by. I recall seeing that NYC boat tail obs as part of the American Orient Express and for some reason, it bothered me immensely. Also - I always wind up having some great conversations and good times in the lounge areas of VIA Rail's Park cars - those observation domes are so well designed for interaction amongst the travelers. Something that the rather sterile Renaissance cars simply lack. Perhaps one day we'll get to share a drink or three while traversing the Canadian landscape ....... [yeah] Appreciate your taking the time to visit with us twice this day. Puts a nice finishing touch to what appeared to be a real downer. Thanx! [tup][tup]

Nick I just don't know how you manage to do it - at the hours you log in it is almost unbelievable loyalty to "Our" Place - Thanx!! [tup][tup][tup] Insofar as music goes - bring it on! My wife and I will be out of town this weekend. One of her long-time friend's house down in Springfield, MO burned Wednesday. Her friend is fine and wasn't home at the time, but the fire took out the whole upstairs and she lost a lot of antique furniture. The downstairs has water and other damage, especially the kitchen. Good thing she has insurance. It's kinda of a bummer [:(] for me since the house sits on the east end of the BNSF (ex-Frisco) yards. I sat on the back porch watching trains go by when we visited.

Greetings and Salutations All; looks like a cheery place to be and chat with folks of similar interests: Old Trains, one of my favorite topics! Tom, if I might have a Guiness, the darkest you have, and a round of everyone else's favorite poison also. Thank you. Gunns, I must ask; is that a picture of the Berkshire that was in Albuquerque last year? I drooled all over the cyclone fence surrounding that one when I happened on her while I was making a delivery to the steel outfit just down the street from her berthing place. The sign read something about restoration and just made my day complete. If anyone would care for old time tales of the steam days, I just might be able to come up with some tales told by my Grandfather who worked for the D&RGW and AT&SF from the time he was about 14 yrs of age. My Mom taped some of them and if I can get copies, I'll trot them out, if ya cares to hear 'em. BTW, am a tin can sailor meself, class of 63-67, perhaps a bit after yer time, but a swabbie nonetheless. USS Richard B Anderson DD786 was my home for a yr and some. Well gang, must be off, this has turned into rather a longer winded thangy than I intended for a first time visit. Will check back as soon as I am able since I drive a big truck; not OTR any longer, but local hauling seems to take up more of my time than it should. Welcome Jeff, yep that was the loco you saw, a 2900 class AT&SF 4-8-4, Largest ever built of that type. Also a running log of our progress is being posted in the Museum thread after each work day.
The D&S and the C&TS are running almost classic passenger service with multiple sections a day, <add verbose and florid description here <<G>>> But the classic railroading We/I want to do is to provide "helper" service over Raton Pass to the BNSF....

Welcome Jeff, its great to have yet another "steam head" aboard.[tup] Blimey, what's happening with all of the Old Country Tars Sailors lately? I'm beginning to feel like a "Ground Pounder" orphan.[:(]

Russell, sorry to hear of the Springfield, MO fire. Something positive could come of it yet. Say, a screened-in upstairs back porch: "The better to see you with...!" Rob I'll make another Wal-Mart C.D. for Russell. This time, there will be more pix of K.C., MO Union Station facade.[tup] There has been more "urban renewal" and hopefully, I can finish 'round Sep. Yes, the rumors about my 67th "old foagy" stripes are all true. Of course, everyone is cordially invited to "Our" Place (Tuesday 8:00 pm Eastern time). Inspector Clueless has given permission for "the girl in the cake" appearance again. This time, Boris stays locked in his shed 'till dawn. Not a problem! His inflatable vinyl "dolly" will be adorned with cup cakes and two electric candles.[alien] Don't know if [C=:-)] Nick has anything special planned. Really looking foward to this trip - quick as it will be.
