AHHHH that rum "n" coke tastes great Ted [tup]. Earlier today, I went to a casino for the first time in about four years, and I took my wife and mother with me. No big winnings, unless $11.05 on the 1c machines counts as big. We had a great time, especially my mother who has never been in a casino until now. She's the one that one the $11.05.

Hey guys, don't forget to hang on to your ticket stubs. The door prize is the Walther's Super Chief HO train set. Where are Dave and Rob? I guess they are discussing security with Inspector Clueless. Here comes the Birthday cake, candles and you know what.[:O] [b]Russ every one expects a speech after cutting the cake. Try not to pass out while blowing out the candles first.

The combined bands are opening with the "Beer Barrel Polka" just for you Russ. How about "letting it all hang-out" with Jemima, she's a little heavy but a great Polka dancer. Yes, Gunns the A.T.S.F. green smooth sides is best. I'll leave the train "names" to the experts. Have a Bier and enjoy. Ted

Hi All.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Russell!!!

I need A cold one, how about 25 oz. of "Fat Tire Ale". Just got back from the work day, it was hot but we got a lot done. Check the Museum thread...

Ted I lean toward the smooth sides, painted in Santa Fe Green, the 2926 hauled trains no.s 1 and 2 also 23 and 24 in this configuration for most of its service. were these train no.s "name trains"?

Tom I would like the "Special" please... Gonna kick back, and I see that "Red Green" is on the tube.

Ahhh Bier....

Morning Tom and the gang...

[bday][bday][bday] Russell, I' ve got the back up squad just in case it becomes necessary to restore some semblence of order, providing of course you can keep them away from the bar, girls, food in that order. Last time I let the boys loose on a special security detail, they went AWOL for a week before being found in a advanced catatonic state on the Vegas strip[yeah] stripped of all personal effects except for thier Master Card travel card, travel orders and poker chips from various casinos.

It's your day Russell, My wife once asked what would be my BD wish when I reached the big 50, I told her the same gift I wanted when I turned the big 40, a new wife would be a pleasent surprise[#oops]. A wonderful women is she to put up with the likes of me for over 20 years!

Enjoy your day Russell, the best is yet to come and the gang is ready, willing and able to make it a memorable event . In the meantime, duty calls, business before pleasure and all that, I'll check back when the joint is really jumping..

Hi (again) passengerfan Al

Help yourself to the pastry and java .... check 'em out in the newly acquired pastry case provided by Cindy. Everything's fresh from The Mentor Village Bakery, of course! [swg]

Actually, it was about a year ago, while devouring one of my newly acquired hard cover train books that I came across some photo's that flicked a switch in my aging grey matter. Geez, I thought, those cars resemble the A.C. Gilbert American Flyer passenger cars of years gone by. Sure enough, as I read on, there it was - the Pullman/Bradley designs were in fact the prototype for the AF venture.

Be seein' ya,

Good Morning All Coffee and a pastry Pleaser !
Jut thought I would mention that the A C Gilbert American Flyer S Gauge cars were taken from the Pullman/ Bradley designs with the companies blessings. Probably no other cars became as popular for the AC Gilbert American Flyer Co.
Actually I am digging pretty deep to find the information on the other passenger cars built at the Pullman/Bradley plant. I am double checking my sources to be as accurate as possible. Those I have mentioned are accurate but their are others I still need to find out about and double check sources. WQell must start getting reday soon for work. Saturdays I put in six hours and then am off until Monday except during tax season when the work is seveen days a week. from January through April. I still alow three hours a day for research and a minimum of two hours per day writing. Well enough rambling time for a morning wake me up all around.

G'morning Ted

I think your post came in just around the time of the SUMMARY ...... happens.

Appreciate the thoughts regarding my S-gauge effort. Theme [?] [yeah] I have one - running three trains! There will be only a smattering of structures and all related to trackside stuff - no town, no industry, no farm. Just a countryside landscape, with a small lake. A highway traversing the top of my tunnel, lots of trees and that's it. The track plan, as shown on the pix, may not clearly show it, but there's plenty of operating room on the 7x8 ft layout, with 8 turnouts (switches). Again, thanx!

Enjoy the day - and I presume you are busy with your nephew. You have some catching up to do 'round here .....

REMINDER: I'm not going to be here for the 7:30 PM CDST (Central Time) start of the Birthday Bash for Trainnut484 Russell. Duty falls to you, Mr. Manager! [;)]

Passengerfan Al I wasn't sure at first if you were talking about "S" guage (American Flyer) or prototypes. Now, I have been apprised of the "Pullman Bradley" car origins, many thanks. BTW Al, were the New Haven coaches modeled by Gilbert (American Flyer) taken from the "Bradley" design? They have almost a European profile, without the "slam door" features, of course. One could put a Pennsy K-4 (Bell Pyre boiler) at the head and pass for a U.K. consist.[(-D]

Okay...business! This is Russell BIG DAY and if you have been reading Tom's Summaries, you already know the menu and the time at "Our" Place tongihjt Live "Battle of the Bands;" great "Juke" on the breaks; silly hats, noise makers; the "Whole Enchilada!"[:D] Oh, did I mention Lucy's debut as "Lady in the [Devil's food] Cake?"[swg]

Rob with westcoast Dave's[/b] help and Clueless' supervision have got security "tighter than a cow's "patoot" in fly season.!" Dress Code? There ain't any but you might want to don a raincoat when the Champagne and "Cake hit the ceiling fan."[(-D] Okay? 7:30 pm, CDST (Central) time.

Say Tom have you settled on a "theme" for your S guage (suspended) layout yet? If not, I may be mailing you soon on some ideas. Okay BORIS bring out those 55 gallon drums and bank the coals. See Ya's later, Ted

Good morning passengerfan Al

Thanx for the response and info! That term, annex kinda threw me off - whenever I think of an annex it generally means something separate and apart - more like adjacent to. Sorry - but words to me are meant to be defined.

All of the water closets within the drawing rooms of those Park Cars have been located within the room, rather than adjacent to them. Sooooooooo, I now have the proverbial big picture. Ahhhhh, life is good.

By the by, you should have received your Email by now regarding the Order of the Permanent Stools.

Enjoy!

Hello all! A cold, bottomless draught please.
Barndad, I knew IRM would not have any self guarded frogs. When the Russian Revolution occurred, those Decapods were adapted to domestic service by several ways, depending on the source. Usually the drive wheels and tires were left as is, which led to problems with this style of frog. I like the guard frogs on patrol. Kind of like when I used to Civil War reenact, we'd go to a restaurant, store,or etc, and be in uniform. The strange looks we'd receive would be met by the explanation that we were militant Amish.
Theodorebear, I stand corrected about the KC,StJ & CC. There was a narrow guage steam rr that used to run thru Independence and that area that in my mind was this road. CRS is a terrible thing.
Tom and Trolleyboy, let me know when you can make it to the Midland. The best bet would be a regular service weekend instead of a special event.

Good to see ya! One frosty cold, bottomless draught right in front of ya!

Ain't no way anyone from this place would venture a trip to the Midland without first letting you know about it! Geesh - after all, you're buying the first couple of rounds! As I've indicated - the fall is when I'm thinking about it. Weekends for me might prove a bit difficult - but we can work that out as we get closer to the date.

Militant Amish [?]

Enjoy!

THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT ”Our” Place:

1. This is a cyber bar ‘n grill for adults who appreciate Classic Trains – real and model – and enjoy a bit of humor while discussing them.

2. This thread was started as an alternative to those where hit ‘n run postings are the norm. Here, we strive to be inclusive with all who participate as regulars. There will be those who stop by to check us out and they will receive an appropriate [welcome] from the Proprietor along with encouragement to join us. Keep in mind, this is not the typical thread seen elsewhere. One has to earn a regular place at this bar.

3. To be a regular all one needs to remember is to participate and contribute to the topic on a regular basis.

4. We have a Birthday Watch List for all regulars. To sign up, just provide your birth date (month-date-year). We’ll schedule a cyber Birthday Bash for you on the day of your choice.

5. We have an Order of the Stools Club whereby regular customers of the bar receive recognition as either permanent or reserved holders of ”Our” Place bar stools.

6. We feature SUMMARIES of postings by our customers. They are provided to help with catching up on periods of absence. They also contain relevant information at the beginning for all customers.

7. The bar is CLOSED on Sunday and Christmas Day. However, submissions may be dropped off in the mail slots on either set of front doors.

8. The Proprietor of “Our” Place only asks that you enjoy yourself while here, but requests that before posting information, take the time to catch up with what you may have missed. To do otherwise turns this thread into what we’ve been trying to avoid.

Thanx!

Of course, that was when I was single and had disposable income. Tom, don't get onto Boris if he wants to dab into the cake icing tomorrow night. Good evening all How about a double Crown Royal hold the water Tom may have been right about it giving me CRS.
When Pullman Standard and Budd began putting a separate small bathroom attached to each Bedroom and Compartment following WW II they began referring to these bathrooms as the annex. Actually Budd was the first to refer to the separate facilities as the annex. Budd was also the first company to separate Bedrooms and Compartments from bathrooms or toilets whatever one prefers. All prewar Compartments and Bedrooms had the toilet right in the room. Pullman Standard did not get the message until Budd began separating them following WW II. The first postwar sleeping cars turned out by Pullman still had the toilets in the Bedrooms such as those in the EMPIRE BUILDER and the SUPER CHIEF Blue Series early Regal series cars. From what I have been able to learn it was probably late 1948 before P/S began using separate annexes for the toilets in all bedrooms and Compartments once again following Budds lead.

Evening passengerfan Al

Hold the water, now you've got it!

An interesting twist, but for the life of me, I'm still not with it ....
In the present day Park Car drawing room (triple bedroom, as it sometimes is referred to now), the toilet facilities are located within a compartment in the room. However, there is no shower in it. So, that's called an annex [?] Oh well, so much for definitions ...... In fact, the Park Cars do not have a shower room (that would be an annex to me) you have to go the adjacent car to find one. On the Ocean it would have been a Chateau series whereas on the Canadian it more than likely would be a Manor series.

Okay, enough of that!

Hope you have a relaxing weekend, maybe even take some time to do something other than work on your book!

Tom

Time for one more Crown Royal and a round for the gang.
Dont mean to butt in on someone else's question or answer but was just writing about the Pullman Bradkley cars in another book I am working on.
Theodorebear the Pullman/ Bradley car are those Pullman cars built in the old Osgood Bradley plant in Massachusetts. The cars most associated with this plant are the so called American Flyer cars both prewar and postwar. Not all of the so called American Flyer cars were built in the Pullman/Bradley plant but all of the prewar were and except for the New Haven Observations and some of the diners all postwar American Flyer design cars were constructed in Worcester. Besides the American Flyer design cars they also constructed many of the C&NW Bi-levels as well. This plant also constructed some other cars that I am tracing down now.

Finally back from the marketing for Russell's Bash. Thanks to Leon and Boris the charcoals will be white with a***omorrow and perfect for "slow cooking." About 30 "octaves" of baby back spare ribs ($85), 10 lbs of bologna ($30) and loin back pork ribs ($55), smoked to a blush white, basted all the while with K.C. Masterpiece sauce...PRICELESS![dinner]

Okay, I give up on the "Leaky Roof Line." Is this another enigma like Tom's Village Bakery "click on?" Gunns any decision yet on which vintage consist? And BTW, what the heck is a Pullman-Bradley passenger car? Oh yes, I almost forgot the Lawry's Salt. Fella's, I'm off again but please "come-on-down" tomorrow for the big "doins." Rob Moose are out of season now so "slow down!" See the rest of you's sometime tomorrow and bring your own finger bowl if you lick the frosting,[swg] Ted

Not familar with kickapoo Joy Juice? Smooth like shallac with a woodsey full body and light clearet color, after Boris puts his finger in it, you couldn't descearn any differance from it and a good 12 year old scotch

See you at the shindig tomorrow

Evening passengerfan Al

Hold the water, now you've got it! [tup] [swg]

[swg]

Good evening all How about a double Crown Royal hold the water Tom may have been right about it giving me CRS.
When Pullman Stamdard and Budd began putting a separate small bathroom attached to each Bedroom and Compartment following WW II they began referring to these bathrooms as the annex. From what I have been able to learn it was probably late 1948 before P/S began using separate annexs for the toilets in all bedrooms and Compartments once again following Budds lead.

G'day Trainnut484 Russell

We're looking forward to your Birthday Bash tomorrow at 7:30 PM CDST (Central Time)! Boris is not of this world and one should be verrrrrrry carfeful when he's permitted to be around women! He's a strange farkle to say the least. The only guy who could control him was Nick and it appears we've lost contact there .........

By all means, go ahead and use that Moose Head in the basement store room. I'm sure we've got a broken toilet seat somewhere down there. Boris saves everything! Nice touch for the Rat's Patoot Room! [tup][tup]

Ready for 'nother one[?]
