G’day Herr Kapitan and fellow travelers at the bar!

After an hour and one half of a rain delay, the Mets game finally got started. Do you know how many beers one can consume in that time[?][?][?][swg] Life is an ‘itch, huh[?]<grin>

Didn’t think they could make it 7 straight, but they did by beating the Brew Crew from Milwaukee. It was a good time, in spite of the weather.[tup] Tom Glavine is one heckuva pitcher and he really had a great six innings. I know, I know – where are the guys from days gone by who used to pitch the entire game[?] I feel the same way. But this is now and these guys are so specialized, pampered and otherwise treated with kid gloves, that I guess it comes down to what the “boss man” likes to say. “We takes, what we gets!”[swg]

My sons nearly talked me into going back for this afternoon’s game – but a clearer head prevailed. They appear to be on the way to a loss anyway! Brewers 8 Mets 2 in the 8th. Uh-oh.] That’s a long trip and I’m not able to handle two in a row any more – especially a day game following a late night ending. No thanks![tdn] That’s why we have TVs in the house, plus the price of beer at “Lars’ Place” is quite a bargain compared to the extortion experienced at Shea Stadium. Good Grief Charlie Brown!<double groan>

We had some decent seats in the Mezz boxes – paid $32 apiece for 4 tix. We took the car and that is a nightmare. My “boys” think it’s a better way to go, but for me, the S.I.R.T., the ferry, the subway and you get there just the same.[swg] But really, taking the car is no big deal – but the parking and getting out of the place is never fun.[tdn]

Just wanted to swing on by to see how things are progressing on this Saturday and it appears that all is quite well. Rob – Doug – Ted & Pete have all been in to liven up the joint, so I’d say that’s a decent morning for a Saturday![tup][tup] Nice “stuff” from you, Herr Kapitan with the Encores! Keeps things moving along . . . [tup][tup]

I’ll take a “hair of the dog” if you please – one frosty cold Schaefer in an equally cold mug, thank you. Nah – nothing to eat today – food is the last thing I’m thinking of. [wow] Those ballpark hot dogs sorta come back on you, don’t they[?][swg]<urp!>

That’s a mighty interesting piece on the PE Hollywood tunnel, Dave and it makes me wonder what the point of keeping that tunnel – a tunnel – is. I mean if there are no plans to put rail in it, and apparently no other transportation plan for it, what’s the point[?][%-)] But an interesting elaboration still . . .[tup] By the way – there were SIXTY ONE posts for the Anniversary celebration! Great, huh[?]

Here’s a ten spot for the “Lars Box” and I’ll definitely see you on Monday, not too sure about Easter Sunday though.

Tom you have covered the range of distances with your encores today. The IT to the CPR and several points in between all good I say[tup] It is indeed nice to know that the rendezvous is within a month now, the weather's been quite pleasant latley as well[8D] Just don't throw anything out doing those honey do's[:0][B)]Nice to see most of us on the positive double diget pluses since pg 200,as Doug said shows how speacial this place is. [bow]

Ted Don't give us heart failure like that, I suppose that you coul;d have mailed yourself here if the strike had happened[:D] Just wondering if it would have been an oversized envelope though [:-^]

Dave Nice follow up on the tunnel that never was, sorta like the Diefenbunker in Ottawa, was supposed to have been a fall out shelter for the Candian Govt in case of war but was never officially put into service, It had fallen into disrepair as well and was to have been bulldozed but it was saved and is now a Parks Canada sight.

Lars I imagine the food prices at Shea are similar to the Rogers Center in Toronto. The tickets are cheap enough but a beer and a hotdog ( streetmeat to be sure ) will run you about $12[:0][xx(] Least the Jays put the boots to Boston over the weekend[:D]

Lovedomes, I too wonder what the point is, decades ago the north portal was blasted out of existence and the roadbed and hill side gave way to a strip mall, so resumption of rail service would be quite impossible. I know it was considered for for Red line extension to valley, but rejected due to restoration cost and business/property owner opposition and no doubt questionable/misguided politics.

A much better fate has been the remaining Sub stations, one in particular almost feel victim to a road improvenment project, a concearn devoted to preservation purchased the building and property, restored it to PE in service condition, and now earns revenue as a art gallery and upscale coffee shop. Since about one hundred feet of the right of way was included in the purchase, the owners are seeking a red car for display. last I saw, rails had been relaid and the traditional palm trees next to the depot replanted, should make a interesting display when done.

Personally the remaining portion of the former Deminguez line would be a perfect canidate for preservation, UP maintains the line to class three standards and the overhead cantanary poles are largly intact, devoid of wire in the early sixties. At over seven miles it could be a viable tourist draw for the nearby cruise ship terminal and be possibly tied in with the restored water front trackage and midway as it was before massive abandoments demoted it to status as a isolated spur under SP ownership. This line is the only significent portion of the Pacific Electric to survive virtually untouched by time and progress. I would like to see it's continued existence..

This is an inclusive list. In some cases I do not have start and end date for these manufacturer's as some lasted others were there and gone, and yet other's are still around today only are making much different non rail products.

A. C . LARIVIERE

Located in Montreal they supplied the Montreal Street railway with Cars in 1894( later became the railways shops until operations ended in 1959 )

BOMBARDIER INC.

Located in Boucherville PQ, began as a snowmobile manufacturer in 1926. Entered mass transit field in 1974, with the contract to build Montreals subway cars. Aquired MLW in 1975 and Ontario's UTDC ( ex Hawker Siddeley Ca Thunder Bay ) in 1992. Still make transit equipment and coaches today.

BRITIS COLUMBIA ELECTRIC RY

In New Westminister BC, built many of their own streetcars and interurbans in shopsfrom 1897 till mid june 1913, after that they did rebuilding only.

CANADIAN CAR ABD FOUNDRY

Montreal PQ, Formed in 1909 from Canada Car and Dominion Foundry. Built streetcars and regular passenger and freight cars.Sold to Hawker Siddeley in 1964

Ottawa On - Canada's largest car builder,Started in 1892,from Wylie Carriage co,. Lasted until 1947, when it built the kast orthidox streetcar design for the Ottawa strreet Railway.

PATTERSON & CORBIN

St Catharines On - Began as carriage maker in 1874. converted to horse cars to electric cars in the late 1880's.Built equipment using Van Deepole equipment, then built electric streetcars using GE motors in the 1890's. Sold cars widely including the first cars for Victoria but overexpanded and went bankrupt in 1897.

PRESTON CAR AND COACH CO

Preston On - Started in 1908. Built high quality wood cars,but also lead the way in steel car construction.Producing the first steel cars built in Canada. Built railway coaches as well building the TM&O's business cras in 1910. Sold out to JG Brill in 1921 ( built the first 50 Witt's for TTC ) plant was closed in 1923.

RATHBURN & CO

Deseronto On - Produced from late 1880's to 1920's, for Oshawa,Kingston,and possibly other's.

RHODES CURREY & CO

Amherst NS - Built cars for Halifax,Moncton,from mid 1890's to early 20th century.Alsio built railway passenger cars.

ST CHARLES & PRINGLE

Belleville On - Active in the early 1890's,suppliedcars and parts to the Montreal Street Railway

TILLSONBERG ELECTRIC CAR CO

Tillsonberg On- Built large cars( interurbans ) for Windsor Essex
& Lake shore and streetcars for St John NB shortly before WW1, closed in 1917

TPRONTO RAILWAY COMPANY

BALDWIN LOCOMOTIVE WORKS

Philidelphia and Eddystone PA- Great steam locomotive builder, producing their frist in 1831-32. Began building electrics in 1895. Formed an alliance with Westinghouse for electrical components but employed Eddison storage batteries for most of it's mine and industrial locomotives. Produced St Clair Tunnel Locomotives ( 1908 ), steeplecabs for BC Electric,(1911-13),and Galt, Preston & Hespler/ Grand River Railway 1904-1930. Baldwin trucks were used for a wide range of candain and US built streetcars and interurbans as well.

J. G. BRILL COMPANY

Philadelphia PA - One of the largerst manufacturers of electric railway equipment. Formed in 1868 ( horse car era ). Developed a full line of trolley's and trolley car components,which were sold throughout the world. Brill bogies (trucks )were used by many Candian car builders. Bought out several competitors,American,Kuhlman,Wason,Danville,John Stephenson, and the Preston Car and Coach companies amd closed most of them. Brill itself closed in 1956.

GENERAL ELECTRIC

Chicago Il -A gigantic orginization,formed in 1892 from a merger of EDison GE and Thomson-Houston Company. A major supplier ofair brake and electrical components to US and Candain streetcar builders. They built box cab electric in Canda and the US and of Coarse now build deisel locomotives as well.

JEWETT CAR COMPANY

Newark Oh -In business from 1894-1918. Famous for it's big classic wood and steel interurbans.Such as those built for the London and Port stanley RY 1915-1917. Our museum's L&PS 8 is one of these beasts.

McGUIRE-CUMMINGS MFG

Chicago Il - Known mostly for it's sweepers in Canada. Began in 1888 as a car and truck builder.( street car bodies and bogies not road vehicles ) Last car built in 1930.The Toronto Civic railway was one of the few candain street railways to own their passenger cars.

NILES CAR CO

Niles Oh- began in 1901. Built mostly large , very heavy wooden cars. Toronto Civic was amongst it's Canadain customers ( # 107 - 112 from 1913 ) Plant closed in 1917.

PRESSED STEEL CAR CO

Pittsburg Pa - Organized in 1896. Only built frieght cars until 1906. produced the first steel streetcar in NA for Montreal in 1907. Closed in 1954

ST.LOUIS CAR CO

St Louis Mo - World's largest and main builder of the PCC type car. Produced earlier type streetcars for Edmonton and other's. Lasted 1887-1975.

JOHN STEPHANSON CO

Elizabeth NJ - A pioneer railway car builder,starting business in 1831, in New york. supplied Vancouvers first four trolley's in june of 1890. No steel cars were produced by them. Bought out by Brill in 1904,closed in 1917.

WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC & MFG CO.

Pittsburg Pa -Produced motors and controllers for electric railways in vast quantities. And became one of the leading air brake suppliers in the world as well. Co-produced a famous steeple cab series with Baldwin as well.

hey dave caught your post. Peaked my interest, no suprise there eh ? It would be nice to see that line rehabilitated, even a few miles of restored overhead could become a huge museum / torist type operation. One just has to look at the high level bridge line of the old Edmonton Radial, it ties into their existing light rail, and allows them to keep an age old historivcal structure and the cars they run on it. Turns out that it feeds the LRV line in the summer and increases the money the transit company makes. A win win situation. A similar thing could happen there in LA. If the catenery poles are in good shape it may not take as much ca***o get it running as y ou may think. We'll think positive thinks about it.

Trolley Boy, i'm not the only one who is aware of the historical significence of this line, many PE fans envision a viable, self substaining tourist operation should UP decide to vacate the line.

As a bonus there are numerous active rail shippers on the route, a group could either contract a third party to service these industries or choose to themself, either way a substanial source of revenue, the curse of all perservation efforts.

Similar efforts lead to the restoration of a 1.5 mile segment along the waterfront, SP sold the line to the Harbor belt railroad who were then approached by the county and PE preservation groups, as a added suprise several cruise ship companies agreed to donate hard ca***owards the ultimate goal. Harbor belt Line stipulated that it must not interfere with day to day operations and the overhead wire must be reinstalled at a higher elevation to clear current freight equiptment.

An agreement was reached where Harbor belt would confine switching moves to the eveing hours whenever possible and they would not be responsible costwise for the installation of automatic train stop equiptment and added grade crossing protection. These request were not insurmountable and the red cars returned within a year after the restoration was publicy announced

Ridership to date has exceeded all expectations, a possible expansion is possible in the not to distant future to extend the route an additional 2.3 miles over former PE trackage Harbor Belt is considering vacating, this would tie in with a second preservation effort, the restoration of the one hundred and forty three flights of stairs that once connected the Pedro Line with Gaffey Street station, due to the terrain that station was almost two hundered feet higher in elevation then the right of way.

Evenin' Gents!

A bit o' luck today in that I wound up with two tickets to tomorrow's Cardinals vs Reds game at the new Busch Stadium. These are fantastic seats - about 9 rows up from the field and just a bit to the left of home plate. Really will be a treat!

I used to go to quite a few more games than in the past couple of decades - once they went out on strike the first time - that was it for me and the 40 game package I used to buy for my family each season. Reduced the frequency to just a handful of games each year, if that.

Used to be that people were promoted not so much for what they had done, but for the potential they exhibited. To excel is the name of the game in the continuum of success (siberianmo circa 2006)!

Interesting afternoon at the bar. Good info on the PE and the tunnel DAVE[tup]. It is good to hear that the part that was restored attracted far better passenger figues than predicted.[tup].

ROB it is hard to believe that it is nearly 100 pages ago since the two Encores were posted.The number of companies in Canada who produced electric cars and locos is impressive. Bombardier produce trains for UK railways today.

Lars Glad you enjoyed the baseball game after the rain delay [tup].

and TOM I hope it is a good game at the new Busch for you tomorrow. I wonder if it is still possible to see the UP trains climbing up to the bridge which was visible from the old stadium[?].

Pic3 A front end shot showing the British Caprotti valve gear. The loco is a credit to the people who restored her after she was at Barry scrapyard for many years, with many parts having to be made from new including two outside cylinders pistons and valve gear.
Pic4 At Loughbourough on part of Great Central Railway that has been preserved is Robinsons 2-8-0 loco # 63601. this the only GC freight loco left. It is owned by the National Railway Museum and was restored with the help of the Steam Railway Magazine. the small plate under the number is the shed plate showing where the loco was allocated.

I had no idea I was spending so much time here. (Sorry it couldn't have been more!) [;)] Have fun at your game today!

Speaking of which ..howabout them SOX Rob?[:-^] Oh well, it's early in the season, and most of the teams are pretty much even. I don't pay much attention to standings until after the All-Star game. Nice encores on the Canadian Electric Car & Loco Co's. and American supplier list for streetcars from you yesterday.

My yesterday was really great. [xx(] I spent the morning cleaning and boxing, then we went to the stable, and then at 4pm we turned over our money and signed a lease on an old farmhouse (complete with 10 sheep) to live in while our new home is being built. (did I already tell ya'll this?) Anyhow, the condo is now for sale and we'll be gradually moving into he farmhouse over the next 6 weeks. We won't officially move till the kids fini***heir school year in early June. By that time, most everything will be out of this place, and hopefully we'll have a closing sale. I'm hoping this doesn't cut too much into the time I spend here! [:D]

The two were always getting into trouble and their parents could be confident that if any mischief occurred in their town, their two young sons were involved in some capacity. The parents were at their wit's end as to what to do about their sons' behavior.
The parents had heard that a clergyman in town had been successful in disciplining children in the past, so they contacted him, and he agreed to give it his best shot. He asked to see the boys individually, so the eight-year-old was sent to meet with him first. The clergyman sat the boy down and asked him sternly, "Where is God?" The boy made no response, so the clergyman repeated the question in an even sterner tone, "Where is God?" Again the boy made no attempt to answer, so the clergyman raised his voice even more and shook his finger in the boy's face, "WHERE IS GOD?"
At that, the boy bolted from the room, ran directly home, and slammed himself in his closet. His older brother followed him into the closet and said, "What happened?"
The younger brother replied, "We are in BIG trouble this time. God is missing and they think we did it!" [:I]

Nice touch on the Easter jokes Tom. [tup] Looks like we have some interesting films coming up at the emporium as well. I just happened to see the Doris Day film about 6 months ago, as she took-on the cold-hearted/business oriented president of the train line. There was sufficient footage on the train she "acquired", and all in all it was a good flick.

Here are some more random pix from me before I toil away at the farmhouse:

Probably the first and only stainless steel piece of equipment to visit GM yards in Gainesville was Seaboard’s prewar coach-lounge No. 6400 built for the Silver Meteor. The car became the observation car for the Wildwood-Tampa, Florida, section of the Meteor and was used as an observation car on the Gainsville Midland Steam Limited, as well. David W. Salter

Coaling facilities didn’t get much more primitive or picturesque than this. As one laborer shovels a buggy’s burden into the tender, two more buggies wait their turn and four more laborers trundle another across the platform. An archetypal southern farmhouse overlooks the scene.

Canadian National class H-6g 4-6-0 1576 arrives at Palmerston, Ontario, with the Kincardine-Palmerston mixed train on July 24, 1957. A May 1913 product of the Montreal Locomotive Works, the 1576 began life as Canadian Northern 1390 and retained that number when the Canadian National took over in 1918; it was renumberes in 1956. It sports the indirect Walschaerts valve gear often seen on CN power.

Borrowed Grand Trunk 5589, a Pacific, arrives at Blackwater, Ontario, with the westbound Lindsay-Uxbridge way freight on July 17, 1958. The K-3b is spiffy indeed, with white running board edges and handrails. It began life in 1911 as Grand Trunk P-214, later reclassed P-7.

Running extra, D&RGW 2-8+8-2 3615 and 4-8-2 1526 power an eastward Civilian Conservation Corps special, climbing the 3 percent grade on Tennessee Pass near Mitchell, Colorado, on March 24, 1940. The Mallet and the Mountain are making 25 mph with the 15 cars.

[:I] One Sunday morning, a priest wakes up and decides to go golfing. He calls his boss and says that he feels very sick, and won't be able to go to work. Way up in heaven, Saint Peter sees all this and asks God, ''Are you really going to let him get away with this?”
''No, I guess not,'' says God.
The priest drives about five to six hours away, so he doesn't bump into anyone he knows. The golf course is empty when he gets there. So he takes his first swing, drives the ball 495 yards away and gets a hole in one.
Saint Peter watches in disbelief and asks, '' Why did you let him do that?''

Just a brief word of THANX to Pete 'n Doug for providing those Sunday Pix!

Great to see that you've "mastered" the Pix-Posting "mystery", Pete - it's like taking the "training wheels" off the bicycle, eh[?][swg]

Doug That RDC really "flicked my switch!"[tup] Other Pix entertaining as well! That Illinois Central E7 looks terrific and would've been a great addition to our recent IC "theme."

The Rock Island #9002 was built on July 9th, 1953 as RDC-3 #5906 (builder's number). The RPO section was enlarged by removing the baggage section. It was rebuilt to a coach in December 1964.

As the first RDC purchased by "The Rock," RDC #9002 was put into service in August of 1953 between Oklahoma City to Little Rock as train Nos. 23-24. Two RDCs (#9003) made individual runs of 355 miles on a daily basis. A year later, the run was extended on both ends to include Memphis, TN to the east and Amarillo, TX in the west.

Originally the service was named Choctaw, but was later changed to the Choctaw Rocket. When the RDCs entered service, the name changed again to Rockettes. 'Nuf for now![swg]

Pete Wonderful selection for us this Easter Sunday and those "Brit Beauties" really bring another dimension to our discussion of Classic Trains. Well done, Mate![tup]

Okay boyz, as previously mentioned - I'm going to be away for most of this day, so it's up to our Sunday "regulars" to pick up the slack![tup]

Hi Tom and all.
Another 3 pics.
The 1st is of a Great Western 2-6-2 tank engine at the Llangollen terminus of the railway of the same name in North Wales.While more of a LMS fan myself I have to admit when the GWR locos are polished they look a fine sight.

The second two are of an industrial 0-6-0 tank built by Robert Stephenson & Hawthorn. Althogh the loco is in the LNER wartime black livery this loco was never in main line ownership. The location is on the Battlefield Line and the loco is running round its passenger train at Shenton. The line got its name as it is adjacent to the fields on which the Battle of Bosworth was fought in which King Richard III fell on the August 22nd 1485. Great two sets of photos DOUG many thanks [tup][tup][tup]. The one of theboxcar being moved by hand reminded me of an experience at work when we had to move a 4-wheel flat wagon by hand and made me[:)] at the memory.
Those steam pics are superb, I dont believe we had that type of valve gear in the UK.but I may be wrong.

The farmhouse sounds a great place I hope to move goes smoothly.

Fully expected a slow day and even contemplated not hosting our Pix Posting for this day . . . but it turned out just fine - THANX to Pete 'n Doug!! - Reminder: Pix Posting ends at "sunset!!"[swg]

Pete regarding today's game - only one word applies - UNBELIEVABLE! Absolutely UNBELIEVABLE! Albert Pujols hit three home runs, with the last one occuring in the bottom of the 9th inning, one man on - one run behind. WHAM! Game over! Cards 8 Reds 7 - UNBELIEVABLE![wow]

It's quite the stadium - but especially so, should you wind up in seats like we had - field level boxes. The way the place is laid out (check that URL I provided yesterday) my guess is the only way you could view the railroad bridge across the Missiissippi would be to get into the upper level along the left field line and then it would be in view. Otherwise, cannot be seen. The views of the Arch and downtown over the outfield wall is impressive. Again, check out those Pix that the URL takes you to - click 'em and you'll have a good idea of it all.[tup]

Good morning Tom and all! I'll have the usual two light breakfasts if you please. Terrific Cariboo pix from yesterday Tom, and really enjoyed the steam pix from Peter. Way to go guys! Mike, I'll have to get back to your URLs a bit later. You always have terrific links!

This is going to be a busy busy week for me, and one which I have been dreading for months. Though we are slow (which means I work harder to keep others busy), my son is also off for the week, and I theoretically am to cover for him as well. It just can't be done. So yuck! [xx(]

I hope to get something typed for ya'll later today. We shall see. I am ready for the Pikes Perspective on Wednesday, and have a little material for our theme tomorrow. I guess the worst news is that I still have more jokes!

[:I] A man is in bed with his wife when there is a knock on the door. He rolls over and looks at his clock -- it's half-past three in the morning. "I'm not getting out of bed at this time", he thinks, and rolls over. Then, a louder knock follows. "Aren't you going to answer that?" says his wife. So, he drags himself out of bed and goes downstairs.
He opens the door and there is man standing at the door. It didn't take the homeowner long to realize the man was drunk. "Hi there," slurs the stranger, "Can you give me a push?" "No. Get lost, it's half past three. I was in bed," says the man and slams the door. He goes back up to bed and tells his wife what happened and she says "Dave, that wasn't very nice of you. Remember that night we broke down in the pouring rain on the way to pick the kids up from the baby-sitter and you had to knock on that man's door to get us started again? What would have happened if he'd told us to get lost?" "But the guy was drunk," says the husband. "It doesn't matter," says the wife. "He needs our help and it would be the Christian thing to help him." So the husband gets out of bed again, gets dressed and goes downstairs. He opens the door and, not being able to see the stranger anywhere he shouts: "Hey, do you still want a push?" and he hears a voice cry out "Yeah please." So, still being unable to see the stranger, he shouts: "Where are you?" And the stranger replies: "I'm over here, on your swingset. [:I]

Good Monday mornin' to each and all. Tom please, a couple of Prune Danish and I'll grab a large, hot "Joe" from the urn on my way to the water closet, thanks. Just when I get one fire put out, along comes another. Still, I'm making time for more participation come "hell or high water." Pete, Doug, Mike, you guys sure made a liar out of me![^] Easter Sunday photo posting was colorful and lively with wonderful input along with Tom's (18 pix) breath taking shots of the Cariboo Prospector.[tup] X 5. By Gadfrey, I revere those steam contributions like "mana from heaven."

You were correct Tom, the linguering effects of Pete, Boris and Leon's brewing efforts were "tell tale" as per my last post.[}:)] I'll be doing a recon on my flight tickets today for a little peace of mind. Rob, I'll get there if they need to ship my carcass UPS.[(-D] Dave, as always, your periodic data on the old PE plus related U.P. and S.P. ROW regarding the future plans in the "Golden State" is fascinating and appreciated.[bow] Hey, lots of wild humo(u)r and sports graffiti happening at "Our" Place of late.[(-D] Sorry but my old "one liners" are so stale and dated that the drummer (tat-tat-crash) would throw the sticks at me while Tom gave me the "hook."[V] I know I've over looked some details this time and apologize in advance for omissions. The Kamazi traffic (Tampa) looms just ahead, so I must bite hit the "dusty trail" post haste.[tdn] So Boris, get your cloven hoofs over here and "ring dat ding!" Good Morning Barkeep and All Present; coffee, please; round for the house and $ for the Jukebox.

Let's play (for Theodorebear ) that toe-tapping classic by the Jug Band section of the Mentor Pro Musica (featuring Tex on washboard); "I'd Rather Have a Bottle In Front of Me Than a Frontal Lobotomy."

All kinds of neat material for a supposedly quiet weekend. Iliionois Termional, Pacific Electric (soemething I wish I had seen as the Big Red Cars have a fascination all their own), GN, CP, BC Rail and reruns of other pieces as well. Lots of great pictures as well.

Hokey Smokes Bullwinkle! A three-cylinder steam locomotive with Caprotti valve gear? As the kid in the ad said about the lime green hatchback, "Sweet Mercy! It's a thing of beauty!" The heck with the excursion - let's get underneath and see how it all works.

Our 'steamed proprietor got an interesting trip to the ballpark over the weekend - and now, ladies and gentlemen, in the center ring - the hurler's horror, the chucker's concern, the tosser's terror - the Adonis of the Arch - Albert Pujols! My, my! He better keep hitting as they sure as !@#$ don't have a whole lot of pitching.

A double header tomorrow - Birthday bash and the Boston and Maine! I'd better go and rest up.

A bit like old times 'round the bar with Doug - Ted 'n CM3 kickin' things off on this rather dismal Monday morning - after a wonderful weekend - start to the work week.<phew>

Temps have dropped quite a bit since our high of 93 the other day, with the high supposed to be about 20 degrees cooler. I can handle that![tup]

Doug Appreciate your taking the time to be with us, even if there is NO time! Been there, done that . . . The "big" priority of course is Al's B'day Bash! - "Pike Perspectives" can be slipped into the following week, fer sure, fer sure![tup]

Ted on a Monday morning - seems rather "normal," eh[?] [yeah] I'm checking my Air Canada itinerary quite regularly, just to avoid those 'surprises!' Was following that Delta strike situation rather closely, wonderin' - but all seems to have been worked out, which clears YOUR flight path![tup]

CM3 Yes, indeed, we managed to provide some excellent Pix yesterday - and I sure in heck would appreciate it if we could get a couple of more guys to particpate. It's becoming quite a labor as of late to keep the Pix flowing . . . Anyway, looks like Pete has joined the PhotoBucket Club and that's one less that I have to oversee. So, there's room for another![tup]<hint, hint, nudge, nudge!>

Doug Times like this week "happen" and believe me "pardner," there's more where "they" came from! Just take "it' one step at a time, and B4 you realize it - you'll be all settled in your "new (temporary) digs" - gettin' ready for round two![swg]

CM3 You are correct, Sir, in your assessment of Red Bird pitching - aside from Mr. Carpenter it is indeed an "iffy" situation. I look for it all to settle down - can't lead the pack from end to end all of the time. [swg] Anyway, overall, the team looks like they have what it takes to come from behind, and once we get a healthy Jim Edmonds back into the lineup - the offense may very well be most impressive. Those homers hit by Sir Albert 'n Sir Scott were monster blasts to the upper reaches of the soon-to-be-completed far left field stands. Unbelievable![tup]

The local media has done a rather poor job with describing the 'set up' for the comeback in the 9th inning. If Tony hadn't sent Marquis up to pinch hit - who knows how the game would have ended. That really was a "clutch decision."

Okay boyz - I'll be here for the remainder of the day! Gotta get some work done on the week's planned Posts, etc.

Barkeep, I’ll take a frosty mug of Coors Light and a 2 foot hero – ham, Swiss, buttAH & mustAHd with two large pickles from the barrel. And, here’s a ten spot for the next round, or “The Lars Box,” your choice.

Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend as much as I did. The Easter weekend is always something special around my house and it’s really nice to spend it with family. I always take time to reflect on just how fortunate we are.[tup]

I saw the highlights of the game you attended, Tom and must agree – a truly UNBELIEVABLE event! You sure know how to “pick ‘em!!” Looks like we had both ends of the weekend pretty much covered with some great baseball, huh[?] I checked that URL out regarding the new Busch stadium and it looks like a “keeper.” Some facets of it reminds me of old Ebbets Field, what say you[?] These “retro” parks that have sprung up all over the country are obviously the latest. Seems like yesterday that the “cookie cutter” multi-purpose stadiums were in vogue.

I see where the Mets will be in your town for YOUR birthday on May 18th. Now that would be a great Birthday Bash, huh[?][swg]

Getting back to the game, I just realized that one of “our own,” Jason Marquis (a pitcher) is from Staten Island (but was born in Manhasset) and began that terrific ninth inning comeback with a pinch hit single! The guy is quite a hitter. Of course the “Staten Island Advance” always makes sure we get the ‘skinny’ on how he’s doing. A 1996 grad from Tottenville High – quite an athlete, but you already know that![swg]

That "Top 10 Contributors" list is something else! Don't know if I would have the patience, much less willingness to keep track of and compile all of that! Nice work![tup][tup][tup] Pehaps you should consider posting it again, only because stuff on the weeknds somehow gets 'lost' in the shuffle - as you've mentioned many a time![swg]

Some really nice pix for the Sunday Fest and between you, Doug & Pete we were treated to some interesting sights. I really think that BC Rail trip is something that must be resurrected, what a pity to let such a scenic route simply die on the vine. What in the world do you think Canadian National will do with it for passenger travel[?] I’m not talking about excursion trains – I’m speaking of scheduled passenger runs. As with you, I never did quite understand the rationale of letting all those RDCs go.

Doug sounds like you’ve got some work ahead of you at the home front. The setting must be pretty nice, especially with kids involved. Being a New Yorker – even on Staten Island – it’s rather hard to find any place where there’s acres of land to call “home.” Good luck with your moves . . .

I checked out a few of those URLs that Mike dropped off yesterday - interesting baseball park stuff, but far too much to handle in one sitting for me. Guess that's why it is called "Sunday Photo Posting Day!"[swg]

Sorry I didn't provide anything for the weekly event, but as predicted, the 'puter was the last thing on my mind - as it shudda been!
