This part of the trip was the highlight of what this Railroad Adventure was all about. The Durango & Silverton run several "Special Events" including one they call the "Fall Photographer's Special" which occurs in September and is a two day ride full of unique photo run-bys of the train. This is a Railfan MUST DO at some point in your Railroad Adventures. Let's begin by looking at the 16th Annual Fall Photographer's Special guide book...
We arrived September 23rd and while the wife gets settled into the hotel I walk down to the Durango&Silverton yard to take some initial video.

What in the world in the Durangon & Silverton doing by placing a box car to ruin the view of the first class passengers in the business (observation) car at the rear of the train. The D&RGW always put the box car (to handle our luggage and occasionally lunch provisions) right behind the locomotive. If I had paid extra fare to ride the rear car I would have registered a very strong complaint.
I know what you mean and I have no idea why that train was carrying the boxcar on the rear like that.
