Hi Tom and all,
Leon, the usual round of Tui`s for all the guys please!
In remembrance of those who served and paid the supreme sacrifice protecting our freedoms.
They shall grow not old as we who are left grow old, age shall not weary them nor the years condemn, at the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them. "WE WILL REMEMBER THEM!"
Rob. Glad to hear you had a great time at the Downesville air display, those were a very nice selection of pics you took, nice shots of all those planes, was the Avro Arrow purely a CAF fighter plane? it looks a bit similar to an Avro Vulcan bomber. Nice shots of the Lancaster under restoration. You are so right about making sure our youth remember the sacrifices our armed forces have carried out for them over the years. Hope you have a nice summer to make up for all that cold wet weather you`ve been having. Thanks for the laughs in the mail box.
Eric. It would be great to have some of that Pheonix heat over here at the moment, it`s cold and WET here just now. Those were some great pics you took of the Texas Eagle trip at RV III.
Tom. That Marshall Uni team plane crash in that URL you gave was so similar to the Man United one, can`t remember seeing a flick of the Munich event at all. I think that BBC TV did a special documentry on it. We went to see the new Indiana Jones movie this afternoon, it was on a par with the other three in the action and sound effects departments, the ant hill part made my bride very sqeamish though! "Force ten from Naverone" is a good flick choice for the Memorial weekend. That Israeli girl has been in the news again here today, the Police have arrested her for squashing a lit cigarette end in the face of a barman last night, she must be a real way out attention seeker by the looks of it!
See ya, Allan

8:12 PM - "Somewhere" back in time it occurred to me that when one has a dream, ‘n the opportunity presents itself, one should JUMP at the chance. That's essentially how I wound up as a full-time college student at the age of 50. I had NO intentions of using any of the disciplines I studied. I just wanted to DO IT. I'll never regret those 4 years ‘n it was surely an "eye opener" for a guy who thought he had pretty much been there ‘n done that through life. Ha - WHAT LITTLE I knew! Just food for thought, Mate . . . At least you're THINKING in that direction - which is a POSITIVE thought!
Pete ‘n I were looking at a couple of great looking gals - both carrying black bags! <uh oh>
8:39 PM - A Spate of Six RCAF aircraft w/descriptions - ‘n money for a ROUND!
10:39 PM - Eight more Pix of warplanes with fine narrative descriptions!
10:47 PM - Capped off with some CLASSIC VIA Rail posters from Toronto's Union Station! Many thanx for the foursome to end our Sunday at the Tavern by the Tracks!
Monday - May 26th:
Page 31 - Allan <Gunneral> at 4:09 AM <11:09 AM Tuesday NZ time>: Many thanx for the fine set of thoughts on this special day! A mug of your favorite brew on the house for beginning Page 31!
Yeah, the ant hill segment was ‘something else' in the new Indiana Jones flick! Great special effects as you said . . .
In your spare time, would you "round up" that troublesome gal 'n ship her to us She'd fit in quite well 'round here - a 'secret weapon' for our next Darts Challenge 'n Grudge Match with the Second Class Saloon thugs!
Much appreciation for stopping by on this very slooooooow long weekend ‘n appreciate the ROUND of TUIs as always!
Reminder: Cindy has the bar from 9 AM until Leon the Night Man comes in at 5 PM ‘til closing.
Thursday is Fish ‘ Chips Nite!
Friday is Pizza ‘n Beer Nite! - and - Steak ‘n Fries Nite!
Saturday is Steak ‘n All The Trimmings Nite!

Boris, serve ‘em all of the "spiked" OJ they can handle!
Tom
Good morning Cindy , always a pleasure to see you filling in just my usual the number three and the large thermos of BK blast coffee I do hope that Ruth is having a good weekend away
Allan-Thanks for printing the excerpt from the act of remeberance, always apropriate.
The Arrow was to be a RCAF project, all the production an funding was provided by the Federal gov,it and the Iroquois engines from Orenda ( another AVROE company )which were the frist production engine to develope 20,000 pounds of thrust a pair of which would have powered the Arrow's. Only one Iriquois equiped Arrow was finished before black friday which was the first Mk 2 #206.Once they proved the Iroqouis on the test beds at Orenda France had an order for over 400 units to be put into their as then under developement Mirage 3 fighter.
The similarities between it and the Vulcan I would say are a reasonable jump as when teh project was cancelled Avro let go all 20,000 employees all of which were quickly grabbed up by NASA,McDonnell Douglas,Avroe in England and by the Consortiaum that designed and built the Concorde. Indeed the first moon landers design were headed up by the airframe guys that worked on the Arrow as well as the F102 for the US airforce, the aforementioned Concorde and only they know what else. There have been volumes of books put out on the subject teh stuff on Wikipedia is partially accurate,a really good thng to look for is the Arrow two part TV movie the CBC made three or four years ago starring Dan Akroyd as Crawford Gordon the head of Avroe Canada,it is the most accurate movie other than the building of documentaries that are out there.
Tom-Sooo black bags eh Is that what they are calling them now Your thoughts are as always dually noted and appreciated Nice line drawing of the C-linner in your posts the last couple of days by the way as well. I figured that the posters would flick your bic a bit.It was neat to see all those in the departure areas of Toronto Union ( even though we had a hard time finding the escalators at times )
I imagine that today will be a tad slow as well, with a lot of people off doing their own thing, hopefully most will take a few moments of reflection on the magnitude of the day.
Couple "FUGLY" VIA shots from a rainy may day in Brantford for everyone.
In my mind the least attractive of the advertising wraps that VIA has applied to the F40's.
Rob
Ahoy Cap'n Tom 'n fellow travelers at the bar!
Greetings from Da Larsman and companion on this holiday - it's been a fine weekend for us! Hope the same for all of youse guyz!
Cindy a round on me, treats for the crittAHs 'n a LARGE jar of PPF for Boris - once he feeds the gang that is! Keep the change my deAH . . . <grin> Oh yeah, I'll have a tankard of Schaefer 'n a Larsman special hero sandwich of ham 'n Swiss, mustAHd 'n buttAH with two extra large 'n crunchy pickles from the barrel. <ummmmmmm> Almost forgot how good they taste! <grin
Sorry I can't stay too long, but it is good to be amongst friends once again!
I've been checking out the pages since my last visit and of course have been enjoying all of the fine, fine photos put forth by Da Bossman, Wolfman Pete, Sand Swede Eric and TrolleyMAN Rob! Good job, guyz - really makes the place a bit happier with pictures! Then there's the "stuff" from CM3 I'm NOT Shane! Can't forget our WV Coalminer!
Especially enjoying the RENDZVOUS pix along with the DOME CAR views from Cap'n Tom! Terrific work and surely unselfish of Da Bossman to spend that amount of time to put those photos out for all to enjoy. 5- Salute to Cap'n Tom!
Best to all, including Nick in Wales and Allan in New Zealand! Haven't seen Dan lately, so I'm wondering if he got himself lost in Sherwood Forest??
On this day, I want to make tribute to my fellow merchies who went down to the sea in ships during the wars engaged by this nation in defense of freedom. Our way of life prevails, but let us nevAH take for granted what it takes to maintain it!
So, here are some posters from the Larsman Mobile on this Memorial Day!
Ok - gotta get going, my companion awaits!
(Is it just me, or have the smilies been reduced in number???)
Until the next time!
Lars
Quite a surprising Monday - first Rob shows up to fill the AM "slot" then at noon-ish along comes a familiar face, the Larsman! Nice to know that at least two of you are thinking of this joint during "doldrums time" at the bar.
Most appropriate Merchant Marine recognition from our Senior Manger <Emeritus>!
I'm always puzzled that after a "day off" we still can't get the guys to come out for a morning visit. <geesh> Even one foto would help! Oh well, you can lead a horse to water, but . . .
Okay - I was going to Post this earlier today, but thanx to Rob 'n Lars, I've been able to hold off a bit . . . don't see any point in Posting atop another guy - best to spread 'em out - at least an hour apart. Keeps us "up on the Forum's Page" that way.

Good evening Captain Tom and Gentlemen!!
Leon, I would like a ham sandwich. On rye! Yes, please.
It sounded like a cannon shot outside the house an hour ago. Very loud kaboom. After talking to some neighbors that complained they didn't have any power I walked around and found that a pigeon had landed on top of a transformer and caused a short. "Kaboom", the fuse blow, the bird was fried and the neighbors out of power.
Tom – Thanks for the info on the new Amtrak Modal Station! No rush building it. Take it easy, but hurry up. Eight photos!? I thought it was seven, but you are right, it is eight. I am always careful when I visit the Mountain Village. If nothing else one may slip on the snow and ice covered ground. Force 10 from Navarone! A good movie butI think the original Navarone movie was better. But Force 10 is worth seeing again. The Natural seems to be a good movie as well! A visit to the Emporium is a must this week!More photos from the snowy heaven! Interesting rock, Percé Rock! I understand that you didn’t have a chance to walk out to it though. Nice photos taken while we were waiting for the Texas Eagle! Rob – You must know all the girls at the Second Class Saloon. Yes, you are right, they are looking at one of the blondes. She was sitting in an open sports car, waving to them.Interesting photos from the Toronto Aerospace Museum! I guess the Avro CF105 is a twin engine airplane? Yes, I can see that on the shot from the rear. How many airplanes do they have at the museum?Looking at the VIA posters I see dome cars in two of them. It seems like VIA is aware of that a lot of people love to have dome cars in the trains. I usually don’t like when locomotives are wrapped in advertising and that green F40 shows why. Allan – We have been kind of cold here too the last few days, but it is going to warm up this week, so I should be able to send some heat by the end of the week! It seems like that Israeli girl knows how to get the attention! As Tom already said, send her here, we can use her as a secret weapon!! Lars – Good to see our Senior Manager (Emeritus) again!! Surprised that Ruth gave you so much time off that you could pay a visit to the Bar! We had a great Rendezvous, too bad you couldn’t attend! Some very powerful WW II Merchant Marine posters! The number of smilies have been reduced.
Some photos.Car coupled to the locomotive. Texas Eagle.Speed/RPM sensor.Texas Eagle, “1st floor”.Coming back to St. Louis at sunset.
Eric
Good evening Leon a tad slooow again today I see but there were a few bright spots.Just a Keith's for me tonight. I've left a sack of loonies there by tilla for rounds on the morrow.
Lars-Good to see you mate I figured that you would have been "busy" with your visiter the rest of the weekend nice to see you however. Figured that you might pop in and you did with some fine fine posters 5x for that. I think everyone knows my feelings on these types of occations.
We did have the smilies paired by three apparently. Too many complaints So teh I'm with Stupid the "censored" one and the Dito one ( due apparently to the spelling mistake you should have seen the stupidity on a thread on that one over yonder ) are all no more. Ahhh ain't political correctness great 5x
Any how it's alwayys good to see you sir as your stool and favorite sandwich and brews always waiting
Tom-More fine photo's from dabossman Things liklely will pick up again the rest of the week, this is the sloooow and steady forum at any rate.
Nice shots of Peirce Rock, I didn't think you could get out to it as Eric asked or am I mistaken
Eric-The Toronto Aerospace museum is small and hasn't been around long 1999 I believe was their first year at least in the old Downsview airbase. The CF105 was indeed going to be a twin engine two seater alas politcal wrangling <barf> and meddling cost us the program and the industry. the Aircraft industry never was the same after that. Seems like they had about twenty aricraft at the museum most are bush planes etc some really unique stuff though . If you ahd a choice between the two though the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum is more worth it from the amount of stuff to see and do standpoint.
Liked today's pictures as well good stuff. it's always nice to see the tech side or trains
A Tuesday, which has the "feel" of a Monday which can only mean a shorter work week <for many>. One of those times when it actually felt like a loooooooong week "back in the day" for Moi.
Received nearly 4 inches of rain yesterday - basement is doing "its thing" once again! <frown>
All's ready for breakfast - so let's get a move on by starting off with a fresh mugga Joe!
Ruth is baaaaaaaaaack!
Received an Email from Fergie over the weekend - from the coast of Greenland. Said things were a tad rough ‘n that comms weren't the greatest. He wanted us all to know that he hasn't abandoned us . . . Thanx, Fergie!
Where's Nick <again> Where's Dan in the UK and where's Pete Hope all's well with all - most unlike the Wolfman not to send a "heads up Email" . . . which of course is what our GoR <gang of regulars> do ‘round here when absences are anticipated . . .
157 fotos from my 2008 Canada Rail Odyssey . . .
81 fotos from Rendezvous III
Monday - May 26th <all times Central daylite>:
Page 31 - Rob <trolleyboy> at 9:39 AM: No doubt about <doot aboot> it, that VIA loco is absolutely hideous in that livery. <ugh> Don't recall that one before . . . but WAIT - yes, yes - the seasick GREEN 'rings a bell'!! Hope NOT to see it again! <grin>
Next time in Toronto's Union Station, I'd like to spend a bit more time "exploring" the place. Seems that each time I'm there, there are things "new" to me . . .
Don't know if you've tried - but PhotoBucket now has a feature enabling the "fix" of fotos . . . when I use it, it doesn't do a bad job <doesn't have an anti-blur feature> but has the rudiments.
Good to see up ‘n about <aboot> the decks, Mate!
Page 31 - Lars <LoveDomes> at 12:32 PM: In what has to be the surprise of the week, who should appear but our Senior Manager <Emeritus> the Larsman! Couldn't have timed his appearance any better, as daytime Posts are getting as scarce as hen's teeth! <grin>
Nice of you to take the time away from your "companion" to swing by the joint ‘n drop off those fine "merchie" posters!
No, it isn't just you - Eric made a comment a week or more ago about the smilies ‘n I've noticed they've been reduced in number . . .
Had a neighbor wish me a "happy" Memorial Day . . . leveled a comment in her direction to the effect that this is NOT a "happy" occasion - the graveyards aren't filled with the remains of those who were "happy" to be placed there. <geesh> I'm sure that's the last we'll "hear" from her! <grin>
It's a "generational" thing - there just are so many people who haven't a clue - not one clue! After all, my guess is in the minds of people like that, there always are "others" to take up the fight for our way of life - certainly NOT her young adult offspring. <arrrrrrrrgggggghhhhhh>
Really a treat having you back with us, even if only for a moment . . . visit, posters ‘n ROUND appreciated! Email received ‘n responded to - thanx!
Page 31 - Eric <EricX2000> at 8:40 PM <6:40 PM sandbox time>: A most EARLY visit from our Resident Desert RETIRED Swede! [wow
So, you had a well-cooked bird as a holiday "treat," eh Amazing how many things go wrong when the birds get in the way. Many an airliner has had experiences with ‘em, some fatal.
My trip aboard the Chaleur didn't include any layovers - that train only runs 3 days per week ‘n I can't imagine being "stuck" in one of those small towns ‘til the next one. My language abilities aren't that good! <grin> Plus, what in the world does one DO when the only sight in the area has been seen Nope, better aboard the train . . .
Another fine inclusive Post from our SandBox Swede! <grin>
Also liked the fotos, especially the one of St. Louis - that one is a <keeper> ‘n is really a professional looking photograph! Specialty shots of the Texas Eagle also well worth the view! THANX . . .
Page 31 - Rob <trolleyboy> at 10:30 PM: Got us covered at either end of the day, eh Nice job, Rob ‘n appreciate your attentiveness to the joint!
Didn't know there was a "flap" over the smilies - but then again, since I don't stray too far from the bar or "my other Thread," I wouldn't have known. What a bunch o' crap! BUT those smilies are available elsewhere - just use the search engine of choice ‘n you can find ‘em. Put ‘em in "bookmarks" for uploading to your PhotoBucket . . . then you have ‘em. Anyway, thanx for the straight skinny . . .
Yes, there are tours out to Percé Rock but of course, that wasn't on my agenda - mine was to remain aboard the train for the round trip. Maybe another time, but I doubt <doot> it.
Cash for ROUNDS appreciated along with your visit ‘n chat!
Reminder: Ruth has the bar from 9 AM until Leon the Night Man comes in at 5 PM ‘til closing.
Cindy is our Saturday bartender!
Good Morning Barkeep and all present; coffee, please; round for the house and $ for the jukebox. Raining a bit here today, but temperatures are where they should be - in the 60s.
Pete was by with pictures of Scotland and also of a whole series of scrappers. I don't like "bone yard" pictures, normally, but there was an eclectic group of locomotives (to say the least) in your photos. Best part is always to read," On the way to running again."
Allan was by with comments and reflections. Some of us have close ties to Marshall; there is a memorial fountain on the campus dedicated to the team that was lost.
Lars (good to hear from you, sir) was in as well with excellent Merchant Marine posters.
Eris stopped by with "Land Between the Lakes" Budd car pictures. I expect to see that as a timetable cover on the Mentor and Southern Standard Gauge timetable once they get the printing press out of the second lake. Looks like we were taking similar pictures (what a surprise).
Rob was in as well with some fine rail pictures and comments and some descriptive material about the air show. The CF105 was a beast. I was interested to read of what happened to their workforce. F102s - remember them well as they used to fly over the old home place - VERY low, indeed. Interesting to see the Lancaster being restored as well - that kind of work is a labor of love.
OSP - I've been around a lot of sites over the years but never saw anything like that - I know, timing (and location) is everything. (lol). Nice Empire Builder book - if it is anything like the others in the MBI series, you've got a good one; cover picture shows my favorite consist for that train with E7s for power.
Nice FM cut you have been using in your posts, too.
Your comments re dogs are on target - they do run things as we all know. Reminds me of a doormat I saw once that said "Welcome - This House Is Managed for the Benefit of the Dog."
Photo 147 - Almost Heaven is here (lol). Lighthouse picture is outstanding!
Good movies! The movie version of the "Natural" is much different than the book. The movie, however, has close ties to Buffalo as a lot of the ballpark scenes were filmed at the old "Rockpile." I thought of the scene in the rain when we were at Busch.
Work safe
Good to see the week beginning in normal fashion with CM3 Shane back in the swing of things . . . gotta admit, I have NO CLUE regarding whatever site you were referring to! Must be the CRAFT's <can't remember a "fargin" thing!> disease that Allan "spread" 'round the bar . . .

Good morning Ruth , I see that your smiling and refrshed from your trip The usual number three and large thermos for me thanks. I see that Boris is still all a"titter"over Lar's most recent visit. I didn't think he was going to let him breathe with how big of a "Boris Hug" he gave him. Still Boris go feed the minions I can hear them scrabbling at the back door, once your done there's a jar of PPF with your name ( well picture ) on it.
Tom- What you not speak the lingo ? I figured that you could easily converse with the natives, what with all the sign language you know. I iamgine that the tours of the Rock would be a bit on the to use the new vocabulary ( whatever ) side, it is after all a big rock.Still if the tour guides cute it might be a distraction for a while.
Sorry to hear that you've had to man the pumps again, here's hopping you find a soluution that works for everyone and everything.Nice to know that Fergies still with though a bit on the busy side. I'm sure there are some good sailor haunts in Greenland though.
What can I say about your neighbour other than I've always said there is no cure for stupid, reminds me of a day that a lady came up to me on the 11th and asked my why everyone at the cenotaph was A there and B so sombre on the upside her ten year old filled her in ( and forced her to stay there for the service ) There might be hope yet.
CM3- Yes those 105's were beasts,I remenber seeing the odd F102 when we went up north. For a while there was a squadron of them at the Norad base in Northbay, you would see them going in and out once in a while. One wonders why they tended to fly the low circuts with them as they were designed as a high level over the pole interceptor just like the CF105's would have been. The delta winged planes are never as manouverable at low altitude as at higher ones, just ask Argentina whose F102's were cannon fodder for Royal Navy Harriers in the Falklands.
The guys that do those restorations are indeed performing a labour of love,as with most museum's up here they are an all volunteer group. This bird won't fly again but at least it won't just rot away on a concrete pylon once it's done.
Hey there Tom great add for the Great Northern, oh to ride the Empire Builder today as it was originally equiped and designed. That would have been a wonderfull route to experiance to be sure.Somthing to go along wth Tom's Empire builder a bit from another railroad in that same vicinity.
CB&Q EARLY E TYPES
The next is some "stuff" on early CB&Q passenger power that I manges to glean from several wide flung articles in Diesel Era magazine, a good read if you can find them. The CB&Q was always a big user of early EMD "E" type passenger units, used on most of their long and short distance passenger trains, the next is a few highlights of "E" action on the "Q" In mid 1939 CB&Q picked up the first of EMC's off the shelf production passenger locomotives E3 822. It was tested on the Twin Zepher the flexibility of this first stand alone ( separate ) locomotive for passenger service which they found was more practical than the articulated pioneer zepher loco/car combinations. The next E units they purchased were custom built E5's ( CB&Q / EMC brain storm ) these were E6's custom built with the flutted stainless panesl to match the Budd cars of the Zepher train sets. They also recieved speacial custom built truck skirts never fitted to any other E units built by EMC/EMD. These E5's were built between Feb and March of 1940 6 A units and 5 B units. A-B sets 9910 A-B to 9912 A-B operated on the Exhibition Flyer while single A unit 9909 powerd the Aristocrat. The other two sets went to subsiduaries Colorado Southern 9950 A-B and the Fort worth and Denver recieved 9980 A-B. In late 1940 another single E5A 9913 was purchased to power the joint Rock/CB&Q Zepher Rocket. In june of 1941 four more E5's were purchased to diesilize the Chicago twin Cities Black Hawk. these were A-A sets 9914 A-B and 9915 A-B During the war CB&Q tried to purchase additional E5's but could not due to shortages so the E5's were the last passenger diesels the Q bought until after the war. Modifications made to the E5's over the years included the removal of the truck skirting in the 40's and in the 50's they recieved nose mounted MU recepticals. wrecks claimed three of this unique fleet 9914 B , 9915 A and FD&W's 9980. In March 1965 the CB&Q retired the rest of the E5 fleet all traded into GE for new U25 locomotives. The C&S and Remaining FW&D units lasted longer in service till 1967, when passenger service ended on those roads, they were traded to EMD for SD40's. C&S's 9952 A was aquired by the Illinois Railway Museum where it still is

NOTE: Off we go to Springfield, IL aboard the Texas Eagle <Beagle> - sitting in the Sightseer Lounge <car #33033> . . . Good day for viewing the sights . . . relatively clean car, but in need of maintenance, especially where the seat backs parted from the frames. Set-up dangerous conditions for anyone happening to grab on during the rockin' & rollin' . . . nearly sliced the palm of my hand on a sharp edge. Reported it to a crew member - didn't appear to be "that" interested. Sorry to say, this is more typical than not in my experiences with Amtrak. But on the bright side - it was a glorious day for a good time!

Good Afternoon Captain Tom and Company! I'll take a nice cuppa of the hot Java please and thanks and might as well as fling in the Special! We Lost Internet once we neared the Greenland Coast then... we got caught off of Greenland by a Low, which wouldn't go away so we hove to for 2 days riding it out. Mostly Gales 40-45 kts with gusts up to 50 at times. What struck me was the speed of the waves going by! Must of been influenced by the Greenland current which was making about 2-3 knots
Anyway we are free and clear of that MESS and on our way back to the Labrador Coast where luck would have it is another Low deepening (Oh Joy).
Saying that the couple of MR projects are slowing getting done. Both Jordan Erie Built Crane and Steam Shovel are built, just need paint and rigging.
Larsman: Nice to see you kind sir always interesting to see what you dig up from that Sea chest of yours! Well rec'd.
I see by the Pic, Pete is impressed!!!
Anyway Gents must run

Hi Tom and all.
A round please RUTH for my absence yesterday, was having a problem with the puter, got on to the Our Place page but it would not load up properly, kept getting stuck and it said ‘error' on the e-mails, ain't technology great some times. Thought today was worse, as no Internet at first but after re staring it seems OK at the moment.
TOM Many thanks for the URL to Memorial Day.
Real sorry to hear about the basement and the heavy rain there yesterday, we have had a fair bit here as well but I think the main lot skirted round us to the east
Many thanks for the great photos on the Chaleur along the coast and at Rendezvous III 5X. At least with the Texas Eagle running late we were able to see those 4 smaller UP diesels passing the station on freight and the weather was great. I wonder where that wagon with the railway wheels on was headed for. Great photos of us aboard the Eagle.
The rain Saturday was not forecast here and it did stop our yard work, I see that the Can-Am track maintenance took place while you were kept indoors; it was basement work for us as well over the weekend.
As you say we have a lot to thank the preservationists, who have spent a lot of money and a great deal of their time in saving and keeping historic items so that we can enjoy them.
It is a long time since I have seen Force 10 from Naverone; The Natural sounds a film worth watching and the Stooges, with a lion loose on a train. Good films on at The Emporium this week.
Many thanks for the Great Northern Railway AD for the Empire Builder from 1956. I guess you would have been aboard her now if not for your basement problem.
ALLAN Congratulations, I think you posted the 600th reply and turned page 31 at the bar.
Thanks for the link to the Munich Air Disaster; it contains facts I did not know. I remember reading that Duncan Edwards, born in Dudley in the West Midlands, was a really great talent who could have been one of the best ever. I see in the 50th anniversary year of the disaster, Ryan Giggs has beaten Bobby Charlton's (a truly great player) appearance record for Manchester United.
Glad you enjoyed the Scottish and Barry photos and the Skye Boat song video. I believe the only sleepers running on BR now is the one to the three Scottish towns, one to Glasgow and the one on Great Western trains from London to Penzance and return. I believe they were proposing to cancel the Penzance sleepers a couple of years ago but public pressure kept it running.
I agree I think Chelsea have made a big mistake losing Avram Grant.
ERIC I am not surprised the Second Class Saloon boys were looking at you as you took the photo of the RDCs, the only time they usually have their photo taken is at the Police Station.
Thanks for the kind words on the photos. The two pipes on the back of the Fowler Tender, behind 44422, are the breather/water overflow pipes from the water tank on the tender. These are used when the locomotive is picking up water from the water troughs (pans) between the tracks.
Many thanks for the great photos of the Texas Eagle. I see the black bag as made an appearance in the photo of the street running in Springfield Ill.
ROB Thanks for the kind words on the photos. I think my bar tab could qualify for the Guinness book of records, but every time they check, it as gone up again and they don't know what figure to put in the record.
Yes we are lucky with the number of steam locomotives saved and are running in Britain. I think one of the big advantages in the UK, is the relative small size of the locos there compared with the locomotives of North America. It would be interesting to compare the cost of, say, a new firebox for an A4 in relation to a firebox for a Big Boy.
Many thanks for the great photos at the CFB Downsview in Toronto on the special day. Thanks for the details of the Avro CF105 in your reply to Allan; it was a pity the original was not kept. It is good to see the Lancaster being restored, I am sure it will look great on static display when the renovation is done.
I must admit I thought that advertisement livery on the VIA F40 was graffiti when I first looked at your photo.
Many thanks for the CB&Q Early E diesel types. It is good to see that one of the early Es C&S # 9952 A has been preserved at the Illinois Railway Museum
LARS Really great to see you in the bar on Memorial Day. Glad you are enjoying the photos and posts at the bar, as you say Tom's Canadian and Rendezvous III photos are really great.5X
Many thanks for the Merchant Marine posters and the very good words on the Merchant Sailors.
Hope you are able to call in and see us again at the bar soon.
CM3 Yes I too am not keen on photos of locomotives in scrapyards or even worse being cut up. In one of the magazines I was reading at the Barriger Library it had a list of the locomotives saved from Barry and of the classes that would have been extinct but for there, including the two Somerset and Dorset 2-8-0s and the solitary Duke of Gloucester 4-6-2. What a difference the 'Duke looked when I saw her in Barry minus her two outside cylinders and the photo Tom posted a few days back in immaculate condition.
Owing to Barry's location in South Wales a lot of the locomotives were from the Southern and Western regions of BR with some ex LMS types that were at sheds in the area. Only one ex LNER type was at Barry, which was a B1 4-6-0 which had lasted as a Departmental loco, used for pre steam heating carriage stock. I will post a photo later of her running after restoration.
I dare say there will be a lot of nervous people around, especially in the Second Class Saloon area when they dredge the second lake to get the printing press out..
FERGIE Glad you were able to call in the bar. Sorry to hear of the rough seas, really hope the weather moderates and the seas are calm for you very soon
Well RUTH as my bar tab is beyond savinganother round please. Back in a while with a couple of photos.
Pete.
Back again RUTH so another Bathams please..
A couple more photos from the Scottish Steam Festival 2000.
The ex LNER B1 4-6-0 rescued from Barry No 61264 at Oban. The loco had shared the summer steam hauled Fort William to Mallaig special trains with 75014. B1 class locomotives did work the West Highland line but I think 61264 spent most of her BR career at East Anglian depots. Spot the Tool box.
On the longer legs of the steam tour our train was double headed with 75014 and 61264.
On the Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh run, 75014 takes water and gives a photo opportunity.Note the Caledonian Blue number plate which some Scottish engines wore in BR days.
A most unusual Tuesday daylite catch-up!
Tuesday - May 27th <all times Central daylite>:

Spent a few hours watching the 1st disk of Band of Brothers - it's really a CLASSIC ‘n most appropriate for this time of year. It was a gift from my youngest son several years back ‘n we watch the entire series at least once a year. A gud-un fer sure, fer sure.
Am familiar with the Buffalo ballpark setting for The Natural - always wondered WHY MLB didn't locate a team up that-a-way. Especially once the Dodgers ‘n Giants moved west. Wudda worked, in my OH-PIN-YUN.
Do appreciate the fine < I3 > Post 'n your picking up the AM slack!
Page 31 - Rob <trolleyboy> at 10:49 AM: Sad to know that "those kinds" of people reside in your country as well . . . one day, I fear, we're going to run out of the special breed it takes to stand up for the survival of respective ways of life.
I only was ashore once in Greenland ‘n it was at Thule. Don't recall a thing about "sailor haunts" - just remember the huge USAF base there way, way "back in the day."
A fine inclusive effort ‘n always good to have you manning your stool!
Page 31 - Rob <trolleyboy> at 11:05 AM: Back with some <light> reading for the boyz - pretty much supplements my Passenger Train Nostalgia piece - nice job!
Page 31 - Fergie <Fergmeister> at 1:04 PM: <3:34 Labrador time>: Brief report from our Resident Irregular Part-time Canadian Maritime Mariner - at sea off the Labrador coast. Must be really sloppy out there ‘n I surely don't envy you or your crew. Been there, done that ‘n got the memories! <grin>
Always appreciate having you aboard . . . even though the visits are far ‘n few between! Too bad, for there's been a <bunch> of great fotos from Posted this month . . .
Business appreciated! <KaChing> <KaChing>

Honestly cannot recall a wetter spring in mid-continent USA . . . tomorrow <Wednesday> was our departure date . . . but given the basement situation along with the forecasted rains, the decision was the correct one. <groan>
No such thing as "yard work" ‘round here - we get it "in" between down pours - ground is sooooooo saturated. Unbelievably wet.
Good chat ‘n two ROUNDS most appreciated! <KaChing> <KaChing> . . . we're thinking of CASH ONLY from "some" of our customers. Hmmmmmmm. <uh oh>
Page 31 - Pete <pwolfe> at 2:58 PM: Fine spate of fotos with descriptions from the Scottish Steam Festival 2000 - great looking monsters!
Not a bad day at "Our" Place as we've had some multiple Posts from two of our crew along with a suprise visit from another. All helps to make things 'perk' at the bar!

Good evening Leon things seem to have been perking along most of the day Just a Keith's for me this evening,I'll leave some extra to help defer the costs of Pete's should eb enough to cover one day of intrest on it.
Pete-A fine batch of photo's sir. love seeing running steam up close and personal like that. I wouldn't want to hazzard a guess at what the relative costs would be to redo a fire box on a big boy. My guess is it would be bigger than your bar tab. A few years back there was some discussion of rebuilding the CNR Hudson that is currently stored at the St Thomas Museum,at that point the rebuilding of the boiler alone ( including the removal of the asbestos and replacing it with a safer insulater ) was going to cost 1.5M CDN andother 500,000 for the mechanical stuff.CN actually though of doing it as they still own the locomotive, management changed and it's still a nice static piece,by today's costs I'd say double those estimates and that's a lot smaller locmotive than a big boy
No that wasn't grafiti just an awfull paint scheme.
Tom-More fine photo's from away sir 5x Love the shot of the tunnnel just behind the domecar Sad to hear of the indiffereance of the Amtrak staff, speaks volumes to the level of service provided by them anymore. Sad truly sad.
Just far to many JO's who don't care anymore and they are breeding more as we speak, hopefully though there are enough of us to keep the flames burning, some of the younger set do care which is encouraging.I'm up to exploring the bowels of TO Union again iof you are
Fergie-Nice to hear the voice or typing from afar, here's hoping the new low isn't as bad as the last one. Hopefully the MR projects are well tied down when the rollers hit.
Another round for the boys Leon , lookslike the track gangs are done for the evening so I'll retire to the pool room and help Boris take care of things.
Leon, the usual round of Tui`s for all the guys` please!
Guys`, please raise your glasses` for a toast to Kiwi Scott Dixon [aka "The Ice Man"] for winning the Indy 500 at the Brickyard!
Rob. A very interesting story about the Avro Arrow, it sounds very similar to the ill fated BAC TSR-2 of the 60`s in the UK, their is some info about it at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BAC_TSR-2
Nice "Fugly" pics and some interesting history on the early E type locos`.
Lars. It`s great to see you on board again with your set of Merchie posters for the Memorial Day remembrance. It`s like old times to see the latest offerings from the Larsman Mobile and the usual repartee that you give in your posts, you are sorely missed here, that`s for sure!X5.
Eric. Send some heat as soon as possible, we had a -3c frost here this morning! Enjoyed your pics of the Texas Eagle and it`s equipment and the nice shot of the St Louis skyline with the magnificent arch. That Israeli girl was put into a mental care facility yesterday and is being deported ASAP!
CM3. Saw the pix of the Marshall memorial fountain on that site Tom pointed out, a very sad happening and so similar to the Manchester United team plane crash in 1958.
Fergie. Good to see you got back from that Greenland trip OK.
Pete. Glad to see you back, was getting a bit worried by your unusual absence. That page not loading problem happens to me sometimes over here. Thanks for the accolade on making the 600th post. Nice to hear their is more than one Sleeper train still operating in the UK, some nice shots from the Scottish Steam Festival 2000 with a lovely shot of the LNER B1 4-6-0 and No`s 75014 and 61264 too. I agree with you, Giggs`y has stolen the limelight from Bobby Charlton, Bobby and Jackie Charlton were both great players, they were nephews of my hero Toon striker of the 50`s, Jackie Milburn, aka "Wor Jackie". Saw today on BBC Sport that their are only 170 English players playing in the Premier League nowadays, that is truly hard to believe.
Nick and Dan. Wherethehellareyamates`?
Tom. Sorry to hear you are having the water problem in the basement once again, hope it does`nt get too bad this time. That Israeli girl is now in a mental facility awaiting deportation, I think that Boris would have to keep her in chains until the next Darts Challenge n` Grudge Match! Thanks for the latest sets` of pics of RV III and your Chaleur train trip, nice shots of the Guyz on the Texas Eagle and the St Louis area, that arch looks really spectacular, those scenic shots from the Dome on the way to Gaspe are great too! Very interesting URL link to Perce' Rock. Some interesting info in that Passenger Train Nostalgia #8 on the GN RR.
Hi Leon, no just a cold Tui, can't stay long tonite!
Sorry, but this has been a very busy day and evening and I am not done yet. I'll be back tomorrow evening. Meanwhile, take it easy, relax. And Allan, stay inside! –3ËšC is way too cold. We will get up to +40ËšC on Sunday!
Ready for action!
Round for the house!!

Just received this notice from VIA Rail:
Better tracks. Better travel.Starting June 1, 2008, there will be major maintenance work on the rail network in Ontario, Québec and eastern Canada.VIA has adjusted its timetable to ensure that your travel plans stay on track. These new schedules will remain in effect until October 31, 2008. How will I be affected? Please make sure to view the new schedules online before purchasing your tickets! We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding. If I could amass sufficient amounts of dollars, my routine would include at least a monthly trip up your way ‘n further. Was a time when the airline fares were simply - steep, but for me - close to affordable. Nowadays, fuhgedaboudit - terrible ‘n getting worse. Yet, those little regional jets are filled that make the non-stops between here ‘n Pearson. Air Canada has always priced the fares in U.S. bucks, so I don't believe the currency exchange has a thing to do with the outrageous rise in fares - all the carriers are outtasite! <geesh>
I'll surely let you know should another visit be planned . . . Toronto is indeed a fine place to browse ‘n maybe we'll get to see that round house we ran out of time for at Rendezvous I.
What tunnel I think you were referring to the bridge just to the rear of the dome - yeah a good shot in spite of the glare against the glass. That entire trip was a pleasure ‘n I really, really, really want to make a repeat run before my traveling days <daze> come to a close . . . just hope VIA Rail doesn't screw it up by using Renaissance equipment. Would be a shame to miss out on a dome car, a real live Chef ‘n of course the charm of the Budd stainless steel beauties.
Am pretty much running out of patience ‘n ideas regarding the basement situation. <groan> Hate to admit that I no longer can take on a job like that - but I can't take on a job like that!
AMTRAK is a losing proposition, in my OH-PIN-YUN. And I spend my bucks on ‘em - but most times come away with negative feelings when it comes to the condition of the trains ‘n PP crew attitudes. Sure, every now ‘n then there are surprises, but it just seems to me that there is a HUGE need for an attitude adjustment on the part of many who are getting paid to render services NOT being rendered. The Texas Eagle seems to be a magnet for those types . . . And this isn't anything new.
I recall having a camera stolen from me aboard the southbound - someone broke into my bedroom compartment <which wasn't hard to do!> busted the lock I had put on the case containing my "valuables" <which in turn was chained fast to a immovable piece of steel> ‘n made off with the camera. AMTRAK didn't seem to give a thing about <aboot> the situation. I had to make phone calls, send Emails ‘n finally write a blistering letter simply to get an acknowledgment of the event from them! My homeowners insurance picked up the "tab" - less deductible, of course!
Does remind me of that ill-fated return aboard the Canadian ‘n the Cruise Ship Virus event . . . VIA Rail was no different. HOWEVER, at least the onboard staff was helpful ‘n somewhat caring. With AMTRAK it's a crap shoot.
Many thanx for the nite visit, chat ‘n ROUND! Also paying down Wolfman's bar tab doesn't do anything but enable the guy . . . we're going to have to strongly consider a cash-only transaction from our Bar Chandler. Heck, his money is worth far more than either of ours! <grin>
Page 32 - Allan <Gunneral> at 9:58 PM <4:58 PM Wednesday NZ time>: Shame on me for failing to recognize that most significant sporting event - the INDY 500! Yes, tankards high for the winner from New Zealand! <clink>
Sorry to say, but I'm not a racing fan - either horses or cars. Those events just don't "do it" for me. So, in spite of things like the Kentucky Derby or in this most recent case, the Indy 500 - they just all <blur> in the news for me. Oh yeah - add golf to that too! <yuck>
I do offer you a top-up on your favorite brew - use the LARGE tankard - for turning the Page to 32! <clink>
Isn't it a shame when politics ‘n politicians get in the way of progress That link you provided on the war plane pretty much sums it up. One will never know how many feasible ideas went to the crapper because of the nonsense engaged in by those we elect. And the beat goes on . . . . <Sonny & Cher>
Mental institution Now that's hard to envision - after all, the gal was only "expressing" herself, on both occasions . . . <uh oh> Still a good "secret weapon" in my OH-PIN-YUN. Deport her to Can-AM County - Boris NEEDS her! <grin>
Frost in NZ I'm on the way . . . <grin>
Many thanx for your continuing support, good cheer ‘n ROUND of TUI!

But, DO appreciate your taking the time ‘n making the effort to keep us in mind!
Nice shot of my Amtrak SW7 <Athearn> . . . good start to our OP-SHUN-UL Wednesday Toy ‘n Model Trains Day!
Thanx for the visit ‘n ROUND!
Good Morning Barkeep and all Present; coffee, please; round for the house and $ for the jukebox. It's cool here this a.m. with steady rain, although the weather folks say it's "partly cloudy." It has, in fact, been "partly cloudying" since last night. Temp is in the low 50s; may get to 60 degrees today. Holy cow! Is Eric breaking out the parka and the space heater? I did wear my wind shell to work today just to keep dry.
So VIA is affected by track work - always has to be done during the height of travel season, too. Check out the following.
I see where we just missed put on all sorts of track maintenance between Chicago and St. Louis. Trains 301 and 306 have been annulled through May 31. 302 and 303 have a substitute bus between Normal, IL and St. Louis. Train 304 has had its schedule twitched a bit. Trains 21 and 22 ("Eagle" are detouring around Springfield on an "alternate route." Where's Pete's atlas now that we need it?
The notice from IDOT says, "Passengers for Springfield off 22 will be bused from Carlinville, IL. Train 21 travelers bound for Springfield will be taxied from Lincoln. Springfield passengers for 21 will bus to Carlinville and board train there. Checked baggage limited to two pieces per person; larger items will need to be shipped if they do not fit in bus luggage compartment. Expect 60 to 90 minute delay operating via the detour route." I'll bet they are installing the panel track we saw stacked up at Springfield as well as doing ballast work, etc. The line there certainly needed attention. IOW, "Late trains will get later." All of this is supposed to be done by May 31. And so it goes.
Let's see what else we have today.
Pete was in with comments and more information on locomotive scrapping. Looks as though 75014 had quite a group on onlookers; handsome beast, though.
Rob visited with Burlington E unit information. The St. Louis Museum has a nice example of a modified Burlington E8 in their collection. I remember seeing lots of them in and around the Zephyr Pit at Chicago.
Allan was by with comments.
Eric provided a nice shot of a model ATK switcher.
OSP - My remark about "sites" in previous post was about construction sites in the URL you told me to check out. All Aboard for Glacier in an outstanding book. A friend (who is a certified Santa Fe and Great Northern freak) gave me a copy of All Aboard for Glacier as I have been out to that part of the world. Nice set of dome pictures in your latest installment - beautiful landscape. I hope your basement situation has stabilized some.
Good morning Ruth. The sun shinning here, but the heat hasn't quite caught up yet sitting at a chilly 12C at the momnet but nice clear blue sky's supposed to get up to 17.My usual this morning I think Ruth the number three and a large thermos of the speacial high octane blend.Boris if you are done binding up that poor creature see to the rest of the menagerie,as always a small PPF awaits.
Allan-Frost in NZ whodathunkit oh well enjoy while you have it.It is supposed to be a bit cooler for you right now anyway is it not Interesting link to the TR, same sort of political bungling as what killed the arrow project. This year is the 50th aniversary of the CF105 as it's first flight were in 1958 with Black friday occuring in may of 1959.
Tom-The VIA bulletin isn't all that supprising,CN's doing a ton of track work between here and Toronto ( and not before time in some cases ) They seem to be holding the worst of the work and the bulk of the frieght runs to the evenings after the last corridor trains have run.So far about 20 minute delays have been about the worst on the rgular corridor trains. It will be intersting to see how it effects the longer runs like the Ocean,Chaleur and Canadian.
Not sure why I typed tunnel I ment the bridge must have been something I drank <burp> You could always move up here and leave the leaky basement problem to someone else. I can only imagine the frustration, hopefully there will be some light at the end of the tunnel.Hopefully once the ground dries out ( if it does ) the seeping won't be as bad and you can get someone to come in and fix it once and for all.
Poor Pete his money is worth more than ours , but yet the tab still grows so yes cash only for the chandler. I've shown Boris and Leon how to operate the counterfit detection lights as well. Now remember Boris the Queen does not have a beard if he's using English or Canadian Money. And no Canadian Tire money is not to be accepted at all.
CM3-Still chilly in the hills too Spring will "spring" eventually most likely we'll end up right into the 90's and 100's and forget all about the normal sesonal temps As I mentioned above seems to be theyear of track work, lots of panel track sections and switches lying about the lines around me as well. Gotta love defered maintenance.Don't fix it till it breaks the second or third time.
Eric-A quick stop by with a shot of the little seen side of Amtrak ( real or model ) everyone forgets that VIA and Amtrak both still roster the odd switcher for the mundane coach yard functions.Apparently VIA has an F7 still in use out in Alberta for the breaking up and reassembling of their trains.
I see CM3 Shane has been "in" with all sorts of gud stuff! "Late trains will get later," sez it all! <frown> We "lucked out" for Rendezvous III . . . Life is Good!
Manager Rob popped "in" as well - good spacing between Posts! Okay - so it's OH-FISH-UL - Cash Only from Wolfman Pete! <uh oh> He's gonna be one unhappy camper . . . <yikes>

TOM Great to talk with you today.
Thanks for the kind words on my post and glad you enjoyed the steam photos from Scotland, it is really great that those scenic branch lines have survived up there.
CASH ONLY I hope it is a good conversion rate from Sterling in the bar . I hope the bar takes pound and ten bob notes as well as half crowns (Allan and Nick will know what I am talking about)
Many thanks for the great photos from the Chaleur as the train approached and arrived at Gaspe, really good that the weather cleared with sunshine and the snow still there was a bonus, although I doubt if Eric would think so.
Thanks for the link to the VIA Rail services. I had a look at the times for the Ocean but could not see Gaspe in the list of stations on the site.
It sounds as though that girl in NZ would make a useful edition to H&H's Tag wrestling team and, as you say, a perfect match for BORIS.
Many thanks for Part 2 of the construction of the Can-Am Subway System and the photos on The Eagle at Rendezvous III. It is good that the three main sporting venues in St Louis are close to downtown. You caught the locos for hire very well from the moving train. Unfortunately the Atlas we were looking at had only a short distance on the Illinois side, next time I will have the Illinois issue as well.
ROB Many tanks for the contribution for my bar tab, all contributions are gratefully received.
Glad you enjoyed the photos. Yes I think that locomotive restoration is getting more expensive by the day with the steep increase in materials. It is lucky the new LNER A1 class locomotive is very near completion as I read the cost of the last items needed to finish the loco have greatly increased in price lately.
I think, also, that it is getting harder to find material that is the right size and composition as the stuff used years ago.
ALLAN Many thanks for that very interesting URL to the TSR2 aircraft. It seems the English Electric Company was involved in many different forms of manufacturing in the 1950s. I was reading in the Railway Magazine about the Vulcan Foundry near Newton le Willows in Lancashire and how English Electric took over it from Robert Stephenson &Co and built many successful diesel designs including the Deltics there.
Good words for Lars.
Glad you enjoyed the Scottish photos. It really was a great 11 days with the travel behind the steam locomotives in the Highlands and the interesting bus trips in between the steam tours.
Yes it is hard to believe there are just 170 English players in the Premier League this could be a reason why the national team is not doing well. I think that on more than a few occasions Arsenal have fielded a team without a single British player in the line up. I have noticed as well the top Rugby Union sides have a lot of foreign players as well a vast change from a few years ago.
That was quite a football family with Jackie Milburn and the Charlton brothers. I recall a classic FA cup ties in the 1960s in which the two Charlton brothers played against each other, in the days when the ties were kept being replayed until there was a winner not like the sudden death of the Semi Final and Final today. It would have been interesting to see what would have happened if the two brothers had played for the Toon in their prime.
ERIC It sounds a though it is going to get mighty warm where you are at the weekend.
Many thanks for the photo of Amtrak #551; it looks ready to switch Can-Am Union Station just back from a works visit and a new coat of paint.
Thanks for the round.
CM3 Many thanks for the information on the track work and the changes n the St Louis to Chicago line. It would be interesting to see what lines the Texas Eagle took to avoid the Springfield area, unfortunately I don't have the atlas that shows Illinois but I will get one, if it is available before I ride the route again. ‘Bustitution', as they call it in the UK, is very common mainly at weekends.
Yes the standards were quite good looking engines apart from a small class of 2-6-0s, none of those were preserved. It was good that at the water stop in the photo it was possible to photograph the 75014, at some places the people on the train can't get photos while the engine takes on water and it seems nowadays that a run past with the train is a thing of the past..
Well RUTH a round please. I will be away from the bar for a few days as we are going down to the bride's moms.
Evening chaps................Leon-any chance of a drink old thing ?-if so,perhaps a round for the house to keep it company....
Well-has been another strange few days since last we spoke-as Missisnick & small monkey person were over in TO all last week ,I fell for the lure of company and stepped out for a small refreshment with one of the boys from the band on friday afternoon-made it home on sunday evening (and played a show with the country band on saturday, although I have only snapshot recollections of it..)--up at 5am on mon to collect the girls from the airport (full tank of gas for the car-$130-ouch !!!!!
Since then, been settling everybody back into the routine-especially small Hannah, who is still on Eastern standard time and trying to decide the best way to go with old Muesli cat (we had a bad night back there, but she seems to be rallying a little and has got her back legs back under her.......a difficult call..came within a minute or two of the backyard and the flat of the shovel, but I figured she deserved a last day just in case................a very dark hour)
Anyway-back to relevant stuff-looks like the RDV was a full-on success, like Allan,I wish I could have been there--belated wishes to TOM-may you have many more my friend !!!!
Also,I feel a toast is in order for CAROL,without whom etc..............
So-there is loads I have to catch up on,excellent RDV pix and all manner of other good stuff-I will,as ever,do so by small degrees....
browsing rapidly through stuff,a couple of easy answer questions appear :-
ERIC:-The little tank in my model pix is one of the standard designs introduced to serve the newly formed British Railways after the 1948 grouping-it is a 2mt (I.E.-power classification 2-tractive effort 18,515lbs,for mixed traffic)the `continental `look is possibly `cos of the high running boards-a feature of all the std classes-for ease of maintenance -look at the `Duke of Gloucester` another from the same drawing board-the range was from 2mt`s-both 2-6-2t`s and 2-6-0`s right up to the mighty 9f 2-10-0`s (Evening Star)
This little one is by Bachmann and is as sweet a runner as one could wish for -money well spent...
PETE-Tyneside bands-must be either The Animals or Lindisfarne
Well-Leon-more beer please-hasn`t been an entirely wasted week-have got some useful modelling done-the switch motors on the low level storage yard are now fitted, wired and tested and the Bradford/Midsomer Norton board is now installed, the old ballast and underlay removed and the new alignment and long angle turnouts are ready to go in,also the big warehouse at the bottom of the industrial district has now been brickpapered and I am cutting styrene stonework to edge out the various door and window openings-also have cut down some track supports from a Bachmann bridge set to use as the gantrys for the various hoists-will provide pixs as soon as I get the camera back
On another track entirely, for fans of the great north-go to Youtube and type in `Ontario Northland`-there are a couple of great vids of the Northlander with CAT powered `F` units and #421,the little bear mixed train, including some great switching shots at Moosonee-about 15 mins in all-well worth a look -O.K-thats me for tonight-just watched`Walk the line`-very impressive-Reese Witherspoon deserved her oscar-great voice-a lot less nasal than June Carter-and the guy that played Elvis (and his band)-all top notch
Enough already-speak soon guys,be good
