Originally posted by selector Ken, was it you who sent a BLI loco back to them? Maybe it was another Kiwi. Mine got to them on the 11th. Have you had any contact with them? I had an email back from Tony's to say they had recieved it and are having a look. Ken. Later on this month I will be able to run it and tell you how it does. I for one don't find this to be a problem, does anyone else? Reply Edit Anonymous Member sinceApril 2003 305,205 posts Posted by Anonymous on Friday, April 22, 2005 2:33 PM I dont have a problem with it. However, I wonder how hard it is to find and load a actual Y3 sound into it? Reply Edit Virginian Member sinceMay 2004 From: Ohio 1,615 posts Posted by Virginian on Friday, April 22, 2005 4:38 PM I'd love to buy one and swap the sound into the earlier Y-3 release without the smokebox pumps, but the non-sound units don't seem to be moving that well. I wish QSI would hurry up and start releasing their stuff seperately. I guess you could set the Class A chuff to half speed and not going in and out of synch to simulate a compound all right, and the hooter is all right, too. What could have happened.... did. Reply Anonymous Member sinceApril 2003 305,205 posts Posted by Anonymous on Friday, April 22, 2005 8:14 PM I wonder about the previous NON sound 2-8-8-2 releases. Will it ever be possible to "Drop in" a QSI unit module for sound and dcc into that 6 axle tender? Reply Edit Anonymous Member sinceApril 2003 305,205 posts Posted by Anonymous on Monday, April 25, 2005 4:09 PM I took the unit home today. It was a happy day in Falls Valley Railroad. At the LHS's layout where it was built on a 4x8 foot with 18" radius squeakers with a few kinks down to 15" in one or two spots... It ran good. The owner ran it under the Digitrax system and it exhibited basically all the sounds of a Broadway QSI that one would expect. Both sets of drivers were articulated and it made it thru the curves and derailed at that one kink as we expected it to. Later this week I plan to put some revenue freight (15 cars or so) on it and run it uphill down hill and sideways. Then we will understand how it performs. I have a feeling the loco is a tad light. Perhaps a diecast metal boiler aka Lionel would really really turn it into a barn burner in the slow speed pulling dept. One more note, the QSI sound in the tender is LOUD. I am hearing impaired and thought once or twice perhaps I can actually turn it down a bit. (That is some thing I usually do first... CRANK IT all the way up.) I may actually pick up a second unit someday in the future and run it as a consist to help with the longer trains on grade. But let's see how she does on a friend's railroad first. **Edit, I suspect it has the same sound as the Class A from BLI. Any clues on how best to "Calm the sound" down to more of a Compound noise? The whistle is alot of fun. =) Reply Edit twhite Member sinceJuly 2004 From: Carmichael, CA 8,055 posts Posted by twhite on Monday, April 25, 2005 7:05 PM Highiron--yes, those P2k 2-8-8-2's ARE a tad light--I have the earlier version and it's kind of a disappointing puller for its 'heft.' But they are smooth running and nice on the eyes. Since I model Rio Grande, I use mine as a helper locomotive, which is how Rio Grande used them, but if you use it as a road loco, don't expect it to crawl away with a long train of cars.
