I have two 40' hi-cubes which I believe are Bachmann (from their train set line) and they don't look half bad. Even the paint jobs are more than OK

Hi. Its my understanding that the 40ft. an 86ft, came out at the same time. The 86ft. car was used to haul light bulkier auto parts. Engines an transmissions were usuailly shippin in the 60Ft. variety. You are correct, the 40ft. was used for white goods. True you sure could ship a lot of washers, dryers,an refrigeraters in a 86ft. car but the weight factor!! If they did ship white goods in a larger car it sure is news to me!! I have a few of the Athearn cars, but have been looking for a while for these. Again thanks for the help. P.S. With the Url you gave me it seem I have a back door into Walthers as I have nevered registered! Going in thru the front way it has always been no go. I do not like giving out a lot of personel info over the net especailly on a unsecured site. Sohow it left a cookie on my system!!! GREAT!!!!

Guys, I'm not sure if it is "up-to-snuff", but Athearn used to have these. (they may still, I've been out of the hobby for several years). I have 3 or 4 of them. My understanding is that these cars were built to carry appliances such as referigerators and washing machines. We have a shortline just to the north of me, that used to serve the plant in Greenville MI. I think it was a "Kelvinator" factory. But, don't quote me on that. Anyway, I can recall seeing these little shorty Hi-cubes long ago. Nowadays, they use your standard 86 foot "auto" Hi-cubes. They look to be second hand GTW cars. Still blue, but with MMRR reporting marks. I wonder how many refrigerators they can fit in one of those monsters....

I'm sorry to see that they are no longer producing it, it is a superb kit. I only have 1, which I have assembled and it is ready for paint and DRG&W decals. I ordered mine from my local shop who got it directly from Walthers, but I see Walthers no longer has the Undec version in stock. They do have 6 different CB&Q ones for 19.95.

You may want to try MB Klein in Baltimore, they usually have a lot of stuff. Also, try calling some of the mail order places and hobby shops that advertise in MR over the past year, you never know, and most have 800 #s. Good luck.

Hi Can anybody tell me where I can find a 40 Ft. baby hi-cube made by Hi-Tech Details of Ukaiah Ca.?? I just bought the last one from Caboose Hobbies in Denver, who were very, very helpful. They did not know of any shop that still has any left. Sooooo, What I am wondering do any of you know any Hobby Shops in the States that may carry it?? I understand that Hi-Tech is not making the kit anymore. Thanks ahead of time. Tim from Wisconsin
