Need DCC Primer
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, January 8, 2005 10:17 AM
Hello all,

After 10 years of being out of the hobby, I am jumping back in. Where can I get some info on DCC, what it is, how it works, etc.?

Thanks

Tony's Train Exchange has a pretty good handbook that you can view online or download which gives a basic rundown on what DCC is, how it works, various features available and so on. Here's the link:

http://www.tonystrains.com/tonystips/dccprimer/index.htm

You can also download a PDF version from the link at the top of that page. I think this should cover the basics for you, or at least help you get started. If you have questions when you've finished that, you know you can always come back here to ask.

Good Luck!

Thank you for the link to Tonys Trains. I built the CTC-16e many years ago when the articles appeared in MR. I have been very pleased with the operation of this system until I happened to hear the latest generation sound effects available. I am thinking about making a quantum leap into the 21st Century and changing to a newer system complete with all the bells and whistles (pun intended). But I am not an eletronics type. I need to be taken by the hand and led, much as the MR articles did. You have given me a start in the right direction and I thank all of you for it.

You may also benefit from reading Mark Gurries excellent information at:
http://www.siliconvalleylines.com/dcc/

Be sure to check out the presentations. They are pdf files in something of an outline style, but Guirres is a thoughtful and knowlegdeable writer.

MR's book DCC Made Easy is also very good for beginners.

Have fun,
