I'm in the Boston Burbs, and this bomb-cyclone thing wasn't much. It's been a bit windy, but no snow or torrential rain. I drove to a local place for dinner and the rain stopped completely, then started again as I came home, but no big deal. Even the weather radar doesn't correlate with what I've seen outside today.
Seems like marketing hype to get people to watch the weather channel.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
Same thing with The Weather Channels named winter storm thing, next thing you know they'll be naming every storm front during the summer.

Imagine Dragons - I actually had learned a while ago how to play "Demons" by them, on drums. (If you only know one thing about Imagine Dragons, know that they know how to use drums!)
Drums - Newest song I'm learning is "Marry Me", but not the wedding dance version! (Thomas Rhett's version for those interested.)
Weather - Snow hit here too, about 8-10" of the wet heavy stuff. Wind was present, but not horrible.
W*^k - Have two different job offers, so am debating which one will be better. Both are in retail, one with the person I work for now, but south of me, the other with a different company, to the north of me. (Northern on is Slightly closer, but not by a lot.) Both will require a bit more travel time then I would like, so it will come down to which offer seems better.

We are finally getting a releif from the heat. Only supposed to be in the 70s over the weekend. It has been in the 80s for a couple of weeks. Hit 91 degrees a few days ago.

Enjoy! I have seen them twice and both concerts were pretty amazing. They do attract a diverse audience. We were old enough to be the grandparents of many in the auditorium, and we were not the only old folks in the audience. Dan Reynolds does an excellent job of engaging the audience.

Good Saturday morning, it is a pleasant day here on the left side, 6c with a high OC.
Redwood national forest is an awesome place. I think it should be on everyone's checklist of places to visit. Unfortunately, on our last RVing trip down the Oregon coast, the police advised against camping at any of the Federal parks in the area of Redwood National forest for reasons I won't go in to, so we never made it that far.
The Skunk train is in the area, so I suggest we spend some time there. I have not seen this particular video yet but there are many on You-Tube if it is no good.
I got all my track clean on the layout and thoroughly cleaned the wheels, axels, and wipers on the BS 4-4-0. I cleaned the wheels on the pilot as well and they were just disgusting. Not sure why they were way worse than the others as I always clean them along with the others.
Group of kids coming over today to fine tune and paint their physics project. On test runs, they hit the target 100% of the time yesterday at school. Some of the parents of these kids are a little on the weird side I'll tell ya. My Daughter is very capable when it comes to using all my tools. She used the miter and radial arm saws to cut the lumber up for their project and the other kids were thrilled at learning how to use the drills and other tools. When the parents started to arrive to pick them up, a couple of them were horrified their kids were using these tools. I was watching the kids very closely and gave them full instruction on safety and how to use them.
In the past, we have had parents that were upset that their kids were playing in the forest across the street from the house with the other 20 kids. They tend not to let their kids come back. Their children have been the ones to have problems as they have grown up. Helicopter parents doesn't begin to describe them.
Well, best get ready for the onslaught of teenagers (they're awesome) I love helping them out.

About ten years ago my youngest daughter had a friend sleep over. They spent the night working on their Cos-Play costumes, which required X-Acto knives, scissors, sewing machines, needles, hot wire foam cutter, heat gun, paint, etc.
This little girl's mother was mortified when she found out what the girls were working on and the dangerous tools they were using.
We never saw her again.
Brent & Kevin, your drinks are on me today, I have always been of the same opinion. The youth are going to encounter these tools, it is better that I teach them to use them properly and not when tired either as that is when I lost two fingers on my right hand one evening back in the 70s.
Talking of snow, we just got back from a trip to Billings and they have had more snow this wnter than in the last 48 years. Tonight we are expecting a Colorado low to blow in to Saskatchewan and then tomorrow we will get an Alberta clipper, so we too are expecting about a foot of snow in the next 36 hours. That will cut into railroading time.
Also I'm not feeling up to par today, quite stuffed up in the head and drag assing my bottom. So if I do anything it will just be at my work bench.
We had to replace our furnace motor yesterday to the tune of $1000.00 about a quarter of that was labor. I wonder if the service man shook out a lot of dust and it is some allergies that are affecting me today ???

Grab irons for my A & B unit. There are an uneven number because 3 were installed 20 years ago. There are no dimples in the Stewart shell for the ones that climb the nose of the cab. Not use I want to tackle that right now. These pieces of phosphor bronze, love to jump off the table. My home made jig worked great. Length was perfect.
We had shop class in junior high, but they never let us use anything dangerous. Maybe the guys on the industrial track did.
Half the recycle trash cans blew over in the wind. I spent a couple hour cleaning trash out of my back yard. Picked up something white, about half the size of a ketsup pack and read the label US License Live Rabies Vaccine.
Great. Washed my hands and bleached the sink. Looked on the internet and all I could find was "in the case of human exposure, prophyllactic vaccination should be considered" Considered? Exactly what factors are supposed to be considered.
The county puts out racoon bait with these packs stuffed into a fish based bait. I called a nurse who now works in wildlife animal rescue and she assured me it was nothing to worry about, especially since it looked like it had been opened and looked old.

There is a drilling guide in the Walthers F7 Dress Up Kit (Which is made for Athearn, but Stewart dimpled their shells to use the same kit!).
This guide includes the holes for the roof top and the front nose grab irons (Stewart did not put in dimples for these, as you noted).
If you can find the dress up kit cheap enough, thast drill guide is very handy, plus it includes all the grab irons!

I looked at the kit at Mainline Hobbies. Actually I thought I bought it, but looked all around and it was no where to be found. I did not know it had templates.
Somewhere I have a Tichy template for a wood reefer, probably for the narrower grab irons, but I suppose I could drill a hole for a wider grab iron, on the same template.
My biggest problem, if you can call it that, is I painted the shells years ago, and I'd like to preserve my paint job.

A national DJ on the radio station that I listen to (live feed from who knows where) was talking about the tour and mentioned how good the special fx and the pyrotechnics are at the shows. I am really looking forward to it.

I don't recall when the Big networks got the regulations changed so they can get advertizing dollars for news coverage but it sure changed the slant on the news media!
I recall driving home from w**k one evening and as I came into our town square I saw at least two TV news vans with their dish booms reaching to the stars.
It was snowing, yes. Roads were wet, maybe a little slushy. I passed the "talent" in front of the camera, arms flailing wildly. Of course I couldn't hear what they were saying.
When I arrived home the TV happened to be on. Not long into the program, sure enough, there was the celebrity I just saw looking into the camera, all wild-eyed. "It's pandemonium out here, Folks! In just the past twenty minutes the snow has gone from here-to-here (pointing to a spot on the snow-covered ground) traffic is at a standstill!" Of course, I had just passed through here and clearly you could see traffic moving just fine in the background of the camera view.
I look at every news media story with a skeptical eye, as I believe, everyone should.

Johnboy, that was one expensive motor. Heating/Cooling repair people seem to know they have most homeowners over a barrel in extreme weather periods. I recall a furnace repair a friend had hired an outfit to do and it set him back almost $400. All they did was change an igniter!

Having Computer Problems. This is the second time I have had this problem, computer locks up after I go on line and visit a few sites. Both times after I run the scan disk and repair fuction it seems fine. But, this computer is long in the tooth so I need to get the a newer one.
Train Front Just opened the bag of BLI Gears for the PCM Y-6b, my god! This mess needs to be farmed out to someone that knows what they are doing! If it is the tower gear, that I can handle. But after that I am screwed.
Ed It does seem I need the scokets for PCM / BLI side rods. I was told BLI was sending one with the gears but there was not one in the package.
Ed and others, do any of you have a E1 with Pargon 3? If so, what do you think of them? I know Ed does not think much of the subwolfer part.

I figured out what's wrong with my mow karts transaxle, the shift keys have been sheared completely apart, I am considering attempting to fabricate my own that can hold up being that the stock ones are way too thin.
Has anyone picked a location for this page? Some one mentioned the redwoods, perhaps we should go there? If so we'll be in NWP territory!
My dad has set me up with some stuff I can sell on ebay to raise capital for my business, hopefully by graduation I'll have the funds needed.
BTW, I am in the market for a Zero Turn Mower for about 3000 dollars, I looked at TSC (Tractor Supply Co. For the uninitiated) and found a Bad Boy brand for 3500, if anyone has any experience with these mowers let me know.

Keep in mind, Steven, sometimes the "Woodruff keys" if that's what you are referring to, are sometimes soft for that reason, so that they shear instead of doing major damage to the gear train. They act like a fuse or safety valve.

While in CA, visiting the CA RR Museum in Sacramento is a good idea. They have a remarkable collection including a SP Cab Forward.
As was noted already, the Super Chief went to LA from Chicago.

When I was in high school we were using metal lathes and oxy/acetelene torches, table saws, planers (they always scared me), lathes and who knows what else! I had a ball and apparently I didn't maim myself in the process! Those parents today who would deny their children the experience of using tools safely to create something of their own are just plain stupid! I look forward to helping raise my grandchildren! They will be exposed to dirt, scrapes, bumps AND tools, and they will be much the better for it!
When my son and his fiance bought their first home a couple of years ago I purchased a bunch of stuff for them. I pretty much equipped their kitchen, which Kaitlin loved, but I also bought Cole a full set of tools. I am pleased to see that he is using them.

I read somewhere that the state of New York has a ban on freeze tag, whiffle ball, and other adolescent outdoor pastimes, I have played both freeze tag and wiffile ball (the latter being more recently) and neither of those sports in my honest opinion pose any risk to children, I mean even if a kid hit another kid with the bat it wouldn't do to much damage, I am 6' 2" 230lbs, I can hit a real base ball at least 150 feet, even when I hit the whiffle ball it didnt gave much force behind it, let kids have fun, get hurt, learn from mistakes!

Not many people do, but that is OK. All the "millenials" will grow out of it and be replaced by another group that they themselves will not like very much.
Nobody liked us "Generation X" kids either back in the 1980s, they even gave us a terrible name. However, we adopted the "X", and now "X" is the coolest letter in the alphabet. The "X" games are the best. The Iphone "X" is the best. Dos Equis (TWO Xs!) is the best beer, but only if you are interesting enough!
Soon "Generation X" will be supporting all those "Baby Boomers" that gave us that terrible name and did not like us very much. Much like someday that the "Millenials" will be supporting me!
