 Evening Diners

Flo, Ed, Tom and I will have a Beer please. We all so will have some deep fat fried Chicken Livers.

Ed thanks for posting the Video of the old B&O round house and yes Tom that is the one. Many of times I wanted to pull off the interstate and take a look. But I am not young anymore and as a rule of thumb you don't go into East St Louis unless you are armed. I have meet many nice people that live in E St Louis, but it only takes one bad one to pull a trigger.

Far as running the engine Ed I was very pleased with the results. Yes Guess I need to run some of the other engines more. By the way, yours are getting the Lion share of work.

Train Front It has been a month scene I treated the shot line with ATF and it has been working like a charm! I have a few passing spurs on the short line I have not used in years. Drop of ATF before the unused spur, threw the turnout and let them roll. No track cleaning and when I ran Ed's Pen SD 7 that had sat for 4 months did not clean the wheels! Heck even my Mono F3A that sat for a year it ran smoooth with no light flickering!

Time to walk Sparkie The Rocket Dog.

Hello all ---

Just something to tide me over for the night. How about a slice of peach pie? At my age, I guess it'll have to be with decaf. Before I retired from the railroad, my tolerance and need for caffein was almost limitless. Times change.

Today Samson the dog and I drove down to Baltimore to see the 7-1/2" gauge live steamers running on the Chesapeake & Allegheny Live Steamers track at Leakin Park. There was only one steamer out, B&O P-7 4-6-2 number 5301 "President Adams". She ran for a while, but then had to go in for maintenance. A WM SD and a Chessie SD took over. The kids loved it, no matter what power was up front. We didn't ride, but I dropped a few bucks into the box to support the organization. There was also a big model railroad show at Timonium. I usually go to those things, but not this time. I couldn't leave Sam alone in the car. Besides, at my age, how much more stuff do I need?

YGW: I have lived at a number of locations near Washington DC, but moved out to Washington County, MD in the 1990's and bought my house in Hagerstown about 16 years ago.

Ed: I saw Paul a few months ago. He's changed a lot since then (haven't we all!) The 1970's hair in the picture took me back in time.

Ken: Love those old B&O engine service facilities. The road almost always built their roundhouses out of solid, substantial brick. Wooden ones were rare on the B&O. Their engine termnals tended to have a very old school look and feel.  The line east from Saint Louis was almost exclusively the domain of Q-3 USRA 2-8-2's and P-5 USRA 4-6-2's. I looked up Cone Yard's turntable. It was 115 feet long and could turn anything the B&O owned. That's 16" in HO.

Ok since YGW asked I will post a photo of a radio I just finished.

1931 Philco model 70

i did not redo the cabinet it was already in good shape and someone had changed out the grill cloth

"innards"

Radio is from Philadelphia originally since I found a brass plate from the Bluebird Music Shop in Philly tacked on the cabinet.  It found its way some how to Nashville and then to it's current owners and then to me for repair. works good now I could pick up all kinds of stations tonight. not bad for an 86 year old radio. Owners will prob rush to come get it.

That is such a beautiful piece of antiquity! You do us all a great service by helping to preserve these jems from the past.

I have vivid memories of having a big floor model radio in one corner of our dining room when I was a kid. My grandfather also had a big radio, and I remember him setting his watch every day with the 1 oclock time signal from CBC radio in Canada. The time signal followed 'Country Calander' which was a very important show focused on farming in the late 50s and early 60s.

Great memories!

Thanks,

Dave

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!

Ken,

Is any type of ATF OK to use, or does it have to be a certain type?, when you put it on the tracks- do you just place a drop on each rail, or do you spread it with a Q-tip, or rag. ??

Thanks, herrinchoker

Good Morning gentlemen!

Ah yesterday was a balmy 70 sunny degrees, so I was outside most of the day.

First I repoted some plants needing it, adn then started some seeds and branches of flowering plants-plumeria and bird of paradise {hope they actually grow!}.

Then I attacked the MONSTER. Half the leaves fell after the last mowing last year so i had to mow/mulch them. MOH picked up the dead fallen branches while i trudged along slowly to mulch the leaves and tiny branches with the mower,. Raked the leaves away form the fences and out of the bushes raise beds leaving the red bark mulch in tact. The neighbors on either side did the smae on their sides of the fences, seeing as how neihter one has any trees so almost all leaves are from my nine trees, 10 if you count the half dead pine tree. It will cost $1700 to take out the front 3 trees, so they will simply be trimmed up this year. Maybe if we don't go to hawai'i or I can figure out another way we will get them taken down. they are too much a pain, and I want fruit bearing dwarf trees in their place.

There is still one seciton to be done and the back yard is done, but to use a railroad term, I ran out of steam. Enjoyed thoroughly the day, took it slow so the back pain is less than usual and the radio frequency ablation certainly helped!

Today another shiner of a day...74-76 and I will work on the yard and the front yard, then all summer cleanup will be done save the dethatching, if I can get teh MANTIS form my FIL. I don't think he uses it and has probably forgotten he has it.

I will rake some of the leaf mulch into the raised beds, not to much, but to help fertilize the soil. the best soil here is under the trees, bu tthe trees won't allow much to grow.

well, hope you all are well, and prayers for those in need.....

It's another manic Monday!

Good Morning!

The nice days seem to be over, it´s rather grey and dull now, with an icy cold "norreasterner" blowing!

Being able to oserve that happy pair of wolves was certainly the day´s highlight yesterday. According to the latest reports, there only 70 wolfpacks in all of Germany. One of them must have settled close by, then.

Here is a video proof of  wolf roaming in our neighborhood. The place, where the video was made a year ago, is only a couple of miles from our house.

Apparently, the herd of deer does not seem to be overly concerned about the presence of wolves - they came for breakfast this morning, as usual!

Took Petra to our doc for a check on the 4 holes in her belly. Everything is healing nicely and the stitches will be pulled on Thursday (so the doc can enjoy his Easter holiday break).

Have a good one!

Morning all

Only a few minutes. Have yet another meeting to prepare for. Hauling off again. New operator and things are going smoother ! What a relief ! Sounds like a symphony of misic around here, Hammers, heavy equipment beeping, banging from whos knows what, sound of diesal engines roaring....Ahhhh music to my ears !

Ulrich Wolves are rather big arent they ! Thanks for sharing the video. That is soooo neat ! I thought they look like a shepard a bit. How are you feeling today ? Petra is so fortunate to have you as her husband.

MoeLarry - That thing is beautiful ! Very nice ! Thanks for posting.

Garry - Not in laws. My Moms side of the family. We have family in Orlando, St Pete, Tampa and God only knows where else ! Work died in the Roanoke area in the late 50s and my father went to Florida looking for work. He found that and my Mom ! He worked during the day building and in the evening he helped a friend who had a gas station and she pulled up for gas and I suspect him too. When my father was young he had movie star good looks.

Gotta run will TTYL.

Had a freind in college, she had a German Sheppard that was part wolf. That dog was huge. It's name was "wolf" , I was the only person that she had met that the dog liked. It was very protective of her and would growl and bark at poeple. The first time I met it at a party at her beach house, it came and basically fell over on my lap to be petted. Nothing like having a huge "wolf" come lay on you. She could not belive it.  I told her all animals like me. If they are afraid of other poeple or what not, they seek me out and will lay on me or climb up in my lap.

It seems like winter is finally over here in Wisconsin. It got into the 70s yesterday, and the same is expected today. I'm actually considering putting the screens in a few windows tonight.

So anyway, Ulrich: I realize hindsight is 20/20, but if I may offer some advice: A maid will come to your house for a lot less money than a paramedic will! Even if the paramedic was covered by national health, a maid will cause a lot less stress on Petra than having to call the ambulance for you! Smile Take some of the load off your shoulders, you have to take care of yourself if you're going to be able to take care of her!

It´s a little late for it, as supper time is approaching, but I still like to go for some coffee and a slice of that delicious apple pie Janie hides beneath the RC, please.

Steven, theoretically, you are absolutely right. Unfortunately, domestic help is as rare as hen´s teeth and those offering their services go for long term contracts. So for the moment, the burden is on me, but I will certainly go at a slower pace in the coming days, or as we say here "let five be an even number"!

Tomorrow is grocery day - not one of my favorite events. Actually, the least desirable way to spend time is to go shopping, unless it is a visit to hobby shop Smile, Wink & Grin

Ulrich Do not understand "let five be an even number" not sure I understand that one. Can you enlighten me ? Things like this is why I like this forum. Between Ulrich, JaBear and some of our other friends here I get to learn things I never knew existed ! Pretty neat.

Tom - I looked up Hagerstown. You are almost due North of me. I am out in teh boon docks the nearest town to me is Marshall. How long would it take you to get to Leesburg area ? By traveling country roads I am about 45 minutes south west of Lessburg.

Lion - Where have you been Not stuck up in a tree are you ?

Henry, Herrinchoker, Howmus, Aliva etc....Good morning hope all is well in you depot this morning...

History qoute of the day :

Against the insidious wiles of foreign influence, (I conjure you to believe me fellow citizens) the jealousy of a free people ought to be constantly awake; since history and experience prove that foreign influence is one of the most baneful foes of Republican Government.

George Washington, Farewell Address, September 19, 1796

All see, and most admire, the glare which hovers round the external trappings of elevated office. To me there is nothing in it, beyond the lustre which may be reflected from its connection with a power of promoting human felicity.

George Washington, letter to Catherine Macaulay Graham, January 9, 1790

Arbitrary power is most easily established on the ruins of liberty abused to licentiousness.

George Washington, Circular to the States, May 9, 1753

Can you then consent to be the only sufferers by this revolution, and retiring from the field, grow old in poverty, wretchedness and contempt? Can you consent to wade through the vile mire of dependency, and owe the miserable remnant of that life to charity, which has hitherto been spent in honor? If you can — GO — and carry with you the jest of tories and scorn of whigs — the ridicule, and what is worse, the pity of the world. Go, starve, and be forgotten!

George Washington, letter to the Officers of the Army, March 12, 1783

I very much admire George Washington who held great power in his hands and walked away from it desiring home and the life of a farmer. Rare thing in deed. Hope you enjoy his qoutes too.

It´s a saying for having a relaxed attitude or approach to things, like "The kitchen is a mess? Who cares! Eventually I´ll clean it up!"

Does that explain it?

Petra and I are coupled up since November 21st, 1983 and are married since July 26th, 1984, so we will be concluding our 33rd year soon. In today´s world, that´s already an achievement! We had our rough times and battles, but we fought them fair and square.

But how do I tell Petra that I have fallen in love with another girl? When you see her, you will understand why I have a crush on that beauty:

She would make a nice addition to my roster of Swiss NG engines. For a hand-crafted, limited edition, the price Bemo is asking is reasonable, but out of reach for me in this life. So it will remain a dream to cling to, which is also nice to have.

Come to think of it, I may have too many dreams, so I should start reducing my list.

Here's another one for you:  you "will give it a lick and a promise'! It literally means "lick" your finger wipe the biggest smudge {like mother used to do to dirt on little boy's faces} and 'promise" to give it a more thorough cleaning later!

Seriously Ulrich, Petra may have been a"neurotic cleaner" who cleaned everything every day. You physically aren't able to, so let a lot of it go. My MIL was like that....and I used to be as a child, but now I don't need to vacuum every day for instance, when once a week will do!

There was a poem:

Song for a Fifth Child

by Ruth Hulburt Hamilton

Mother, oh Mother, come shake out your cloth,

Empty the dustpan, poison the moth,

Hang out the washing and butter the bread,

Sew on a button and make up a bed.

Where is the mother whose house is so shocking?

She’s up in the nursery, blissfully rocking.

Oh, I’ve grown shiftless as Little Boy Blue
(Lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).
Dishes are waiting and bills are past due
(Pat-a-cake, darling, and peek, peekaboo).
The shopping’s not done and there’s nothing for stew
And out in the yard there’s a hullabaloo
But I’m playing Kanga and this is my Roo.
Look! Aren’t her eyes the most wonderful hue?
(Lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).

The cleaning and scrubbing will wait till tomorrow,
For children grow up, as I’ve learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down, cobwebs. Dust go to sleep.
I’m rocking my baby and babies don’t keep.

so read it's last line, and comprehend: quiet down the cobwebs....cause us old folks won't keep!!!

Just my take, as I said before the dust will be there tomorrow..whether you leave it or you take care of it, it will come back and STILL be tehre tomorrow!

Well, the yeard front and back is DONE! Ta DA! It is a balmy 75f. the sun is shining I feel...on top of the world finally, and very very tired...I think a nap is in order! Though I hate to waste the sunshine...so quiet down the nap, cause sunshine doesn't keep!

The crocus are in bloom, I'm going to cut some daffies and bring them in before the frost in a few nihgts.....

Prayers for all who need htem...

Whoever happens to be handy, could I please get a French dip with swiss cheese on the roast beef, cottage fries (with more swiss melted onto them) and some raspberry ice tea with a piece of carrot cake for dessert if possible. Thank you so much.

Hobby Front:  It is so annoying waiting for the mail to come especially when there is a new hobby item in the mail. In my case, it is a new retaining wall set for the hill that I have built on the layout. I want to get it to get it painted so that it can go out to the layout tomorrow. I also should be getting a new (to me) caboose here shortly. GN blue which will eventually get a new BN number. I have decided that, for the number of BN and BN-sub lettered engines, 4 cabooses don't seem like enough. (I will have to get a BN caboose decal set to further accompllish that, but the budget at the moment precludes getting that right now.) Projects alsways seem to build up: Get one done, three seem to be created.

Good afternoon all.

Just a quick stop while on break from w**k.

Zoe - I will take a BBQ ham sandwich, with fries, and a coke please. Thanks.

Ken - I beat your commission check in one sale yesterday... By quite a bit. (Sorry man... But not sorry for myself.) Whistling

Weather - Warm and sunny! Smile Right now, 76F and blue skies. T-Storms possible later tonight.

W**k - I have had the sale of the weekend in the 9 stores that the owner has. Big Smile (My supervisor might have something to say on that before the end of the day though...) Our sale runs through tonight, we are leading the sale contest by a large margin. (I have almost single-handedly gotten the store goal by myself... Smile And I have single-handedly outsold some of the other stores total sales.)

We advanced in the region contest, eliminating Alma Mi, and are now going against Goshen, IN. We were ahead of them as of this afternoon.

Well, Hope all are well, and have a good day!

Back to w**k for me.

Good night to all.  It was a really nice day here.  I decided it was time to start scapeing and priming the house.  It has been seven years since I last painted and an old house seems to need painting about every seven years.  Some of the dutch milled clapboards are starting to look pretty rough.  I don't know whether I will go much higher that I can reach off a seven ft. step ladder as age is finally starting to make me less sure footed.  The wife will probably pitch a fit if I start working off an extention ladder.  Will probably get what I can reach and pay to have the rest scraped and painted.

I finally finished my modeling work bench.  I actually worked on an old Ulrich

Frisco box car kit that I started about 40 years ago and put away unfinished.  It needed trucks and couplers installed and I think I put it up a I had no small screws at the time.  I managed to install one Kadee No.5 coupler pocket and coupler and one truck tonight.  Hope to get the other end done tomorrow night.

YGW, your discription of your work day with the elevator problem and getting inspections done reminded me why I decided to retire.  I miss the work but not the hassles with customers or building departments.

Time to head for bed.  Best wishes to all.

Jim

 Evening Diners

Flo, Ed, Tom and I will have a Beer please.

Work Front Sigh Spent 4 hours with a Nancy (owners wife) and she is a Ding Bat! Edith Bunker has nothing on Nancy!Bang Head Just to give you a idea, most bunk beds are for kids and from the bottom bunk to the bottom of the top bunk is about 29". She made me put a 14" thick mattress on the bottom, so there was only 15" clearnces from the top bunk? Yea, that will be tried out a lot!

At one point she said "I know I am being a Witch (she use a B not a W) and I don't want to be a Witch but I knowing I am being one. Does that sound right? Confused

She kept pushing my buttons and Hit the arm button a few times! But I kept on smiling (close as I could get that is). Then she finally hit the Relase Button and I Mushroom Cloud the Witch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The reaase button was "You only sell high spiff mattress." I think the worse I said is "I am sicking hearing this Bull Pop" (did not say pop), then she said "Well that is what I am told but I don't know". Told her "Well if you don't know it as a fact, maybe you should not repeat it".

In a way it is a sad thing,I am not worried about lossing my job. This company is so screwed they cannot hire a new sales person and they have been trying for a year now. So they can dump Jerry the Dunce

Ken, Is any type of ATF OK to use, or does it have to be a certain type?, when you put it on the tracks- do you just place a drop on each rail, or do you spread it with a Q-tip, or rag. ?? Thanks, herrinchoker

Herrinchoker Being a Mopar Guy I am using Dextron III because it is what I had. I used a paper towel that had ATF it. Shot line is about 60 feet. Touched the Left rail with the paper towel, moved about 12" and touched the Right rail. Did this 3 times in the 60 foot span. Don't use close to a grade! When I test ran my PCM Y6-b on the short line I gave the track a extra dap heading into a grade. Only time I seen this Monster spin the drive wheels which was kind of cool I will add. Big Smile It was easy fix, just wiped the grade rails down with alcholo and no more spinng.

Reason I have not done the main line? I read at a club layout they had crude bulid up on the rolling stock wheels. Started causing derailments. So far I have not seen any crude bulid up. And I sure have not to had to clean any engines wheels on the short line for a month! Every 2 days was the norm. Cleaning 100 rolling stock wheels would bit if I have to, 300 cars, well a bigger bite! I am going to waite a few more weeks before I do the whole layout. But for now it looks like a Yes to me!

 Later Ken

Morning all. Flo can I have cup of good stramh coffee with a bit of N&W coal dust and shot of 2884 Steam. This week is starting off better.

Going to the electric heart doctors tomorrow to see if or what they want to do about the electric issues in my heart today. I really hope this doesnt involve yet another surgery.

Hobby room. I have been blessed this week with some unexpected stuff. Monday the insulator had some left over bags of insulation and he left the extra vs. throwing them away, the drywall hanger had four sheets of drywall left over from a house and he gave those to me vs. throwing them away and I called the hardware guy to see if he had any surplus keyed door knobs and when I inquired how much he donated those to my Hobby room. What a blessing !

At w**k I removed the headache excavator and he has been replaced and now things are going much better. LOT SMOOTHER ! Thank God for that the other guy created some real headaches and cost us a LOT of money.

Ken - Help me understand. If a company has incentives to encourage selling of a certain product arent you doing exactly what they design the program to be or do ?

Jim - I completely understand why you retired. For me there are still more good days than bad days. For the most part I really like the men and women I work with. The Hispanic guys are fun to be around too. They have this great sense of humor and find much to laugh at.

Ricky W - What is selling so well in your sales ? Congrats on doing so well !

FRRYKid - What is cottage fries ? That is such a true saying ! Get one done three created . That is my life right there.

Galaxy - I had heard that saying before but I didnt know the back story. Thanks for sharing

Ulrich Congrats on the life long marriage Bow Bow Bow No you should not stop ! How is Petra doing today ? I hope making progress. Your new love afair how much is she ?

Good Morning,

A sunny one out there today with about 35F for a temp. Lots of Juncos in the yard still. They sure do eat a lot. I had to go and purchase another 25 lb. bag of shelled sunflower seeds.

Say I remember a few months  ago a few of you, I think Ken and Mr.B., were talking about which security system to use with XP now that MS is no longer supporting XP. I also think there was a discussion about which web browser to use too. Well as of today, MS is no longer supporting Vista which is on an old laptop we have. It still works fine, but slow, and I would like to have it available to use. Can any of you advise me as to which security system you use with XP and which browser?  Thanks for any help.

I finally ran trains for a little while on the N scale. I need to get a decent high stool to sit on in that room as the table is quite high.

Not much on the agenda today. We might try to do a little yard clean up but it won't be much as the frost is still coming out of the ground and will be for some time. The ice in the pond has nearly melted so hopefully by the weekend I will be able to get it pumped out and start the waterfall. We need it to attract the Warblers that will soon start coming through.

Have a nice day,

CN Charlie

Good morning. Just a quick cup of hot chocolate before I start on some of the day's activities.

Unfortunately, it's time for springtime yard work. There's a terracing project that I started last summer. It has been on hold during the winter, but I guess I can't put it off forever. It won't complete itself. Once that is completed, Samson's outdoor dog run will be a lot better. Of course the grass needs mowing after the winter, and the vegetable garden needs a lot of work.

Ken, I only had a few very wise bosses in my time, but one of the wisest told me "The customer is NOT always right. We do our job every day, and we know it far better than the customer does. But the customer is always the customer." The trick is to serve and educate the customer without making them feel stupid. Of course it's often difficult because some aren't educable.

YGW: Yes, Marshall is just about due south of Hagerstown. It looks like the most direct route is Interstate 81 from Hagerstown to Winchester, then route 17 to Marshall; or 81 to 66, then east to Marshall. Either way, it's just under an hour & a half.  I have an old friend from work who still lives in Front Royal, so I get down that way now and then. He is still working as an Amtrak chef.

I recently heard from my ex wife, who lives in Arizona. We don't see each other often, but we have a pretty cordial relationship. It's kind of funny that we have been better friends before and after our marriage, but not so much during. Go figure. She was remarried many years ago, and just lost her husband in an accident last week. In the midst of planning his funeral, she found out she has breast cancer. I'm trying to be supportive, but it's pretty hard to know what to say, or how to be helpful.

Gotta move on. Everybody have a great day!

Tom

CNCharlie

Say I remember a few months  ago a few of you, I think Ken and Mr.B., were talking about which security system to use with XP now that MS is no longer supporting XP. I also think there was a discussion about which web browser to use too. Well as of today, MS is no longer supporting Vista which is on an old laptop we have. It still works fine, but slow, and I would like to have it available to use. Can any of you advise me as to which security system you use with XP and which browser?  Thanks for any help.

Hi, Charlie,

There are websites out there that archive old versions of downloadable software. For a web browser I would suggest Netscape, which was the predecessor of Firefox. Take a look at OldVersion.com and pick which version to download: http://www.oldversion.com/windows/netscape/

They have a page of downloadable security software, as well, though I don't know how much good an old security program will do you without up-to-date virus/malware definitions.

Good evening all.

Chloe - I will take a RBF please. Thanks.

Ken - Wheel slippage on a steam locomotive due to lubricant? Reminds me of a video I seen awhile back. Whistling

YGW - LG Black Stainless appliances. (Roughly 80% of the sales Sunday and Monday!) Also, I am glad the new equipment operator is more pleasant to work with. Take some of the stress away from your heart. I threw some "misbeats" in the hospital one time during asthma issues, boy, they didn't mess around after that!

Ulrich - Congrats on the upcoming anniversary! I Hope you and Petra are still going strong much longer. (Although, anymore, 30 is nothing too common!) Maybe I am "old fashioned", but, I feel, if you promise to love someone, come what may, you fulfill that promise. (And, there are strong reasons to do so, but I will not get into them here.)

Weather - Cooler and wetter today, and forecast is cooler yet tomorrow.

W**k - Not only did I hit the sale of the weekend in all the stores by the owner that I work for, but, I hit a tripple digit bonus because of it! YAY! Big Smile We did more than double our sales goal for that weekend, and sit well ahead of goal on the month now. Now, we just need to keep advancing through the region contest. (And, keep our sales up.)

Trains - Somehow, I have a boxcar that I applied flat clear sealant to that got "chalk-ish" colored, but on only a couple of panels... And only one side, and a sindgle corner of the roof.... Weathering will hide it, but thought it was weird. The next car I thinned the clear flat a bit more, and it worked fine... But, still seems slightly odd.

Lit will easily be fixed with the weathering powders/PanPastels though, so, no harm , no foul, as they say.

Hope all are well, and all have a good night!

 Eveing Diners

Flo, Ed, Tom and I will have a Beer please

Work was peaceful today which is not a good thing. Sigh But the Ding Bat was not there! Yes There has been no fallout from me Nuking Nancy. Seems it is Company Turdition it was just my turn.

yougottawanta
Help me understand. If a company has incentives to encourage selling of a certain product arent you doing exactly what they design the program to be or do ?

YGW Yep, that is what the goal is! They are a hight pofit iteam so they can pay a good spiff on them. What Nancy does not understand is a higher purches amout does not net more profit. I all so go out of my way to show spiff mattress even if a customer say I don't want Memory Foam, Pillow Top or what ever they think they don't like. Most sales person will show them what they want, not what they may really need. That is what Nancy does.

Good 80% of my customers will buy what I know they need and they don't come back for a reslection.

Tom I have work for three good Managers in my life. But I will add I was upper managment for 20 years or so. I would like to think I was a good one. Lowest turn over rate in company for manangers and personal. I could do every thing the crew could (in Auto Body) from body work to Auto Painting as good as them.

 Later, Ken

Flo, could I get my normal late-night snack of breaded mushrooms and blue cheese dressing please? Thank you so much.

FRRYKid - What is cottage fries ?

Cottage fries (aka American fries) are round slices of potatoes roughly 1" in diameter and about 1/4" thick that have been ripple cut on both sides. I came across them when I worked in food service out of college.

Hobby Front:  (and no, all the rest was not typed in this screen. I used my web editior)

This is one of the newer buildings on the layout. It is a long-planned view block for the local control panel for the rear of the layout. It controls all the track sidings that are on side of the hill
as well as the truntable, the ferry spur and the car ferry yard. This was finished last month and I just hadn't taken pictures of it before. It is a kitbash from DPM parts mainly from their Powerhouse kit, a Street Level Entry (30161), and the rollup door is from a Walthers sprue that I don't remember where it came from. (Aplogies on the bottom picture. It is a little bit dark in that area and I used Photoshop to clean it the best I could.)

Pictures of the new hill that I have installed over the last few weeks. The L-shaped piece of styrofoam was glued on this afternoon and will be carved next week. It was one of two pieces that I found at work and brought to the layout specifically for this hill. It was shortened to fit the hill. (More momentarily on where the other pieces went.) Apologies for the blur on the second image. (All the picts were taken with my cell phone.) The straight up and down area in the first pict will get a pair of Woodland Scenics Cut Stone retaining walls eventually. (aka When the budget gets recharged. I will have them probably the first part of May.) The wall in the blurred photo is a pair of City Classics concrete retaining walls wilh a fill strip at the end. THey were painted Model Master Aged Concrete. (The fill strip is glued to the foam but not the rest of the wall as I still haven't quite figured if the hill will be deeper or not. (aka Will the layout get yet another expansion in that direction? Maybe it will end up as two lift gates.)

Another shot of the ferry yard area. I have decided to improve the shape of these hill as well. The dark gray in the pictures is a fresh application of the ground newspaper that I use for scenery. The other full piece of the L-shaped foam and the partial piece are both here as well as two other blocks of foam that I also found at work (My boss is very permissive when it comes to taking the styrofoam pieces. The blocks were originally destined for the hill already pictured but I changed my mind.) and few other scrap pieces I found around the layout. As the shapes had to be built from various pieces, they are just sitting on the hills. They will be glued on next week as well.

Didn't do a lot on the layout this week as I had to do a few other things at home for Mom & Dad. (Seal a few leaks in the trailer house roof and helping Mom dig a hole to bury the ashes of a cat that had to be put down due to FIV, which is feline AIDS. Mom couldn't bear to just throw his body away, and at the time, it was too cold to bury him, so Mom had the vet cremate him.)

Morning all

Flo can I have grits with lots of butter, salt and pepper, fried ham, egg over easy..

Hobby Barn - Yesterday after work I installed the last bit of hardware on the barn and installed the door knobs. Today we have the framing inspection and if all goes well this weekened we will start siding.

FRRYKid - Thanks for posting photos it is always nice to see others work and the way they put it together. What are your plans for the hillside ?

Ken - Spoken like a true sales man " I know what they need" If I were your employee I would be happy. Knowing teh product and the customers needs is always a plus.

Ricky W - We install Kitchen Aid products in our homes. They are okay but I am NOT impressed with their service. They have a sub who handles their service. Which is a pain in the back side when it comes to warranty work. They dod not have records of when the HO settle and that makes for LOTS of problems. We used to install GE Profile. I LOVED those guys. They had records, trained people in their products, parts came in a reasonble time frame etc...How is LG service performed ?

Tom - If you are ever heading down this way give me a heads up and maybe we can meet for coffee and train talk.

CN Charlie - WOW that is a LOT of shelled seeds. Is it very expensive ?

Howmus, Lion, Garry, Herrinchoker, Ulrich....Good morning : )

History qoute of the day:

The only way to be loved is to be and to appear lovely; to possess and display kindness, benevolence, tenderness; to be free from selfishness and to be alive to the welfare of others.
John Jay

The constitution of the United States is to receive a reasonable interpretation of its language, and its powers, keeping in view the objects and purposes, for which those powers were conferred. By a reasonable interpretation, we mean, that in case the words are susceptible of two different senses, the one strict, the other more enlarged, that should be adopted, which is most consonant with the apparent objects and intent of the Constitution."
Joseph Story (Commentaries on the Constitution, 1833)

It will be of little avail to the people that the laws are made by men of their own choice if the laws be so voluminous that they cannot be read, or so incoherent that they cannot be understood.

Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives.

YGW Love the hobby barn.  Yes sidecars for motorcycles; classic, off road and handicapped  http://www.freedomsidecars.com/sidecars/freedom_sidecars.htm

I have a BMW K100 with a Ural sidecar.  I need to get to work on the front end, I think someone backed into me in the parking lot and bent the forks.  I took it apart then heart issues intervened and I never got back to it.

Galaxy  I remember the road to Hana being a beautiful, but long drive.  We stopped at a few of the many water falls and went for a swim.  I don't remember much about Hana itself.  That was another wife and another lifetime ago.  Say hello to Kris Kristopherson and Oprah.
