As you can see I made it back! There was good news and bad news from the procedure. NO BLOCKAGES BUT they found another electric problem in the bottom of my heart called "PVCs" Hmmm we use that product in in plumbing in our houses ??? It is being controlled for now by Meds.

YUP... When I was in nursing school we had a rotation in the ICU. Of course we saw PVCs on the monitors, and so one studen asks me "What is a PVC?"
And so I tell her it stands for Poly Vinal Chloride.
She said no it doesnt, and so she grabbed a medical abbrivations dictionary and read

Good Morning,
A nice day here with a high of about 55F and sunny! We have been invaded by Juncos but they usually just stay for a week or so before continuing on there northward trek. Sure are cute little birds but they do manage to consume a lot of bird seed. They only eat seed that is on the ground so it is a good thing we have a stone patio.
YGW, thanks for the offer. We have been to Kenya a couple of times so have a good idea of what we want to do.
Dave, there will be a delay in sending photos as our internet provider is having problems with Microsoft e-mail. Supposedly a fix is being worked on.
I put the light mike on the track and again no chuff sound so I decided it was time to fix it. BLI sent me a new chuff sensor last year. Getting the shell off was very easy but installing the new sensor not so as it is quite small and has to be soldered to a little board on top of the engine. I did get it done and I have sound again. Now I just have to re-set all the CV's.
Hope Ulrich's wife is doing fine after her surgery. Never fun as I can personally attest but here it is just 3 months since mine and I feel fine. As they say every day afterwards gets better.
Well time to get going. I have a fitness class today and then a few errands to get done.

In Baltimore this month? Ahaa, a place that I can contribute to the discussion. Was last there in 2010. Only a one day visit at that. B&O Museum needs atleast three days to really see and study it all. Ive been here multiple times. Mainly because its 1 of the only 3 places where PERE MARQUETTE equipment can be found. Plus, its the ONLY place on the right coast (as opposed to the left coast), being where I live, of the three.
Ofcourse there are other reasons aswell. Such as its a great place to see C&O equipment (my 2nd fav road) and they have a rather large collection from the 1800's.
As the icing on the cake, there are volunteers everywhere (retirees mostly) around the museum that offer an abundance of knowledge for the patron. There is access to pretty much all the equipment giving you the ability to photog to your hearts delight.
There are even a couple of operating layouts on the property if you didnt already know that. So without further adieu, lets have a little pictoral review of March 11th, 2010....
Before she left Baltimore, 1309 was not in her best trim. Get a good look, hopefully she will never look like this again!

I said a few years ago that the 150th anniversary of Promontory was approaching. We should have the two largest locos alive meet face to face. Low and behold a couple years later 4014 wins the lucky lotto of loco restoration. Thats one down as 3985 would suffice, she aint the biggest. For the east side of the country it would only be fitting an Allegheny was restored. We have two after all, come on! Fate would have it 1309 gets the nod. Not the east sides biggest, but alas, will suffice.
But is anyone even thinking along these lines, or is it just my wishful thinking?
This one would make a great alternate to 611, and excellent companion to 614 and 2716 and now -1309...
Here's a main attraction for me - and its restored to boot! 2 down, one to go!

This first quarter of this year has not been very great for many of us, but we are a tough Group and will survive, especially if we stick together.
We spent the last 10 days down in the Billings area, helping plan the upcoming Wedding of our Youngest Son (39) and his soul mate of 6 years. He and She are a good fit and think they will really support each other through this life. While there my Wife had a cold that she generously shared with me and I came down with a dooozzey. Had to get some antibiotics and even though the worst is past, the darn thing just won't leave. Lots of coughing and nasal drainage so don't get too close to this post.
Helped my Son with some home improvements that he is doing, all new plumbing and gas lines, new basement windows, etc. So was fairly busy until I had to rest a couple of days to get over the worst of this cold. It was almost like a Flu.
After taking a little rest from the LM&E, last evening I finally located an electrical problem that I have battled with for some time. It was pretty simple but it was not in a place where I had ever considered looking before as one would have thought the two were quite unrelated. ONE NEVER KNOWS.. But feels good to have found it and then get rid of the problem. It had to do with powering out of a reverse loop.
Glad to see a lot of the bikes getting out already and look forward to a few miles of my own this spring and summer.
Cody, my resscue dog, is doing great. He is just finishing up a long treatment of Chemo Therapy for a strange form of Cancer that only occurs in dogs from around the Gulf Coast. It is a viral venerial cancer. So at some point he must have had a fling with a young lass from down that way. Anyway, he is such a wonderful Guy and now, after all the vet bills and Chemo and xrays and ultra sound and trips to the Veterinary School at the U of Sask. in Saskatoon, is the most expensive dog I have ever owned.
Coming Home from Billings, in the dark, we hit a young deer, doing some damage to the air damn below the front bumper and tore out the right driving light. Thank goodness there was no other body damage and no mechanical damage. Can do this work myself here at home. So, another job on the ol' list.
I have only been through Maryland once, and that was early in the morning on a bus going to Richmond Va. Didn't get to see much. So I am looking forward to the diner being there for a month.
I have rambled on enough for now. Would like to welcome the new members in the diner and also several of the old ones that had been gone but not forgotten for awhile.

The Fun Ride is part of a bigger event with a 62-mile and 34-mile ride. The money raised goes to community outreach progams in the area. The weather was perfect and the ride was sloooow but enjoyable. I had the responsibility of following the last/slowest rider which was a 4-year-old for the first part of the ride and a 7-year-old for the rest of the ride.

Hobby Front: As usual, juggling a bunch of projects. Five coal hoppers, 3 various boxcars, an engine house, an engine and a sand tower (and that's just what's in town!). I also have a list for the layout for tomorrow as well. A majority of those town projects are waiting on parts or paints. (The hoppers are the current active project. Just lots of decal pieces with those.)
Mentioning weather, as I type this it is all of 47 out today.
I am also watching my favorite baseball team play its opening day game. (Atlanta Braves for those wondering.)
Baltimore looks like a great stop for the diner. Railroad history wherever you look. After all, it was here first before headin' west to the Mississippi.

YOu got them too? I had to wear a Holter Monitor for 24 hours for them to find out what was going on with my heart.
Premature Ventricular Complexes---Hence PVC...appropriate cause it IS a problem with your "blood plumbing"!
It can be controlled by meds...which is great.
I also have tachycardia, and an infarct anomoly in my EKG.
But as long as it kinda beats and keeps me running and not feeling woozie....
Basically, if that's all they found, YOUR FINE! That's the good news!
In other news planning trip to Maui in 2018. There are three other couples interested in going, lets see who actually shows up when it comes booking time next january!

CN Charlie, I've had my share of experiences with those pesky BLI chuff sensors. They're as fragile as glass! I broke a new one installing it. Fortunately I had bought a half dozen, just to be sure I'd have some for future needs.
Things are going well, here. Waiting for a goat to give birth at any time now, a Spring-time ritual around here
Ulrich— you and Petra are in my thoughts and prayers as well as anyone else who may be in need. I hope Jimmy is doing better, too. I was pretty concerned for him when I read his post a few days ago.

Yep, I've had some good visits to Baltimore, the "Charm City". Rode my first PRR Metroliner from there to Penn Station NYC in 1969! Now the Metroliners are in museums! I have read discussions about what the max speed was for them back then, however I CAN testify that I was looking over the engineer's (motorman's?) shoulder and saw the nixie tube readout at 117 MPH.
Of all the railroads I have visited in the past, the B&O folks were the frendliest I've ever encountered!

"Premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) are extra, abnormal heartbeats that begin in one of your heart's two lower pumping chambers (ventricles). These extra beats disrupt your regular heart rhythm, sometimes causing you to feel a flip-flop or skipped beat in your chest." (Mayo Clinic)
Yep, one of the only times I really had any surgery, I was under a spinal block and I threw 18 of them in a row. Man, doctors and nurses were running around all over the place getting all kinds of stuff to stop them.... My heart started beating back properly all on it's own by the time they had the stuff drawn up to hit me with. They did insist that I make an appointment before I left the Horsepiddle the next day to see my regular doc. He looked at the strip they sent him and then at the EKG he had in his file, listened to my heart, then looked at everything again several times. He finally said, "I refuse to think there is anything wrong with your heart! This Horse Hockey happens often when you have been nailed with the pre-op stuff they give you. Now back when I was 40, too much coffee did give some PVCs every once in a while, but I would get one followed by several regular beats. Doc. said that is actually very common and not to worry about it.... Unless I feel them often. And to cut down on the coffee! I told him I only have one in the morning. He said, "Oh, one cup won't bother you." I told him I meant one pot.... Thought he was gonna have a heart attack on the spot. LOL
Spent part of the day looking up the scale size (actual) for the measurements that I will need to do on the bridge. Will build it from the closest materials I can get for each size. The bridge will be a lot of work, but should be fairly straight forward. Need to figure out the best sequence to build it to be able to get everything in place.
Mheetu, So...., where are you from and what are you driving with a 60gal tank? That would be about 1.6 years worth of Fossilized Dinasaur Dung in my car..... (I've owned the car for 5 months and driven 3200 miles so far and have used about 18 gallons of that stuff!)

Evening all,
Sitting in the back of the ambulance listening to the rain on the roof. Partner isn't feeling well, so she's sprawled across the front seat sleeping. Don't know how she can sleep in that position, but then at 6'2", I'm 8" taller than her. Also helps that she's only 23. At 23 I could do a lot of things I can't do now.
After over 4 years, I'm finally getting my automated weather station back in operation. Lightening struck the electrical pole on the street and fried the weather station (along with my freezer, microwave, burglar alarm, etc). Powered up the computer that does the data logging, and was shocked how old it was. BIOS date of May 2004, running Windows 95. I had two computers the squad had tossed out, so I figured I'd use the newest of the two. Took it with me when I was on 911 duty Saturday, figuring that I would get all the software installed and configured. Turned it on, only to find that I grabbed the wrong computer. Many 4-lettered words were uttered. I'm off tomorrow night, so I'll make a second attempt then.
Was brought up 30 minutes from Baltimore, but never visited the B&O museum. Last time I spent any time in Baltimore was in high school when I played trombone in the All-State orchestra. Someone decided that it would be a good idea to play a Christmas concert inside one of the cathedrals. The 3 trombones were stuck in some pulpit in the back that barely fit two people. Ended up "you aim that to the left so your slide bops the second trumpet in the back of the head, I'll aim straight up, and you aim right so you hit one of the basses."
Lion - that steak is so rare, the other end is still swatting flies with it's tail.
YGW - heart issues are never good, but PVCs are pretty benign. We all get them to an extent as we get older and the pump starts to wear out. As long as the frequency is low and they don't happen all together, they're not a problem. If the medicine doesn't work, worse case is you'll need an ICD (implanted cardiac defibrillator) which will shock the heart back into a normal rhythm if things get too out of hand. Wouldn't be surprised if 20% of the people here in the diner have either an ICD or a pacemaker (or a combo unit), so you'll have plenty of support if things eventually go that way.

It´s 4.30am as I start to type this post. I am up for half an hour, probabyl got woken up by the missing little snore usually coming from next to me.
It´s been a dreadful day yesterday.
We arrived at the hospital on 6.30am sharp, just as we were requested to. Registered with the nurse and were asked to wait in the waiting area until we were being called. There we sat and waited, and waited. At 10.30 am, I got slightly angry and went to see the nurse again, asking for what time Petra´s surgery was scheduled. The answer I got was 1pm. My question why the h.ll we were asked to come in by 6.30am when the surgery was scheduled at 6 1/2 hours later was answered with "organisational issues", which is just a foul excuse for not being organised at all. So, patiently we waited again - until 1pm. And waited. Until 1.30pm. I again went to see the nurse and demanded politely, but strongly to be informed when or even if the surgery were to take place. By that time my BP was exceeding 180 and I wasn´t called Old Fog Horn for nothing in my younger days! The answer was that Petra is next. So we waited. And waited. At 2.30pm We were given the info "within the next 30 minutes". But when that time had passed, a doctor finally got around to calling the surgery off for the day. Believe me, I had a few choice words for them, still very polite, but much stronger than before.
Petra was in tears, it was just too much for her. Completely dehydrated and hungry she just collapsed. Things start moving rapidly then. They got her into a bed, hooked up on an IV bag of glucosis and when she was feeling better, also got her a meal and something to drink.
I stayed with her until 6pm, went home, sat down on the sofa, and woke up at 10pm. I must have passed out proper! Got my self a bite to eat and went to bed.
Petra´s surgery will now be performed this morning and I will be on my way to her in a couple of hours.

It isn't just the Mayo clinic that calls a contraction a contraction..... Some other places you might look up would be: WebMD, American Heart Association, Cleveland Clinic, St. Jude Medical, CardiacHealth.org, and a many, many more..... You can call it whatever you want, but the technical medical term is usually Premature Ventricular Contractions. Look it up...... However, there is also the use of Premature Ventricular Complex, which evidently covers several slightly different meanings as described here: https://lifeinthefastlane.com/ecg-library/basics/pvc/
So.... Maybe we both learned something today?
Ulrich, how terrible to wait all day and have her surgery postponed. Will keep both of you in my prayers!
Ulrich: It is no different here. They want everyone there at 6am. The one time I had a procedure-a test-, we were told to be there at 6 am, and nothing to eat or drink after 9 pm the day before. We were there at 5:30 am, a little early. By 10:30, {over 12 hours without food} like you, I went and asked what was going on. I was then told my procedure was at 1pm! WHy be there at 6 am then?? By 1pm...I again asked what was {not} going on, that I was told my procedure was at 1. Finally, then they decided to take me back to prep. The procedure would be at 2:30. {17.5 hours without food, and like Petra, feeling it}. The procedure was supposed to be at 3:30, but the case ahead of me had a "complication". I was not only dizzy but absolutely starving! I told them I wanted Steak, lobster and Eggs when done. i was told that was a no-go. Then I wanted a hamburger and fries I said, as I had to lie flat and still while I recovered, and I once had mashed taters and gravy served to me for a procedure once that I could in no way eat lying flat down!. "we'll be sure and get that for you". At 4:15 {over 19 hours without food, adn only a minimal IV for fluids} I was VERY EDGY to say the least! Finally I was wheeled in for what turned out to be a simple 10 minute actual procedure!!!!!! I was AGITATED is putting it mildly! But then, back in the early recovery room, I was told to wait a half hour then they'd order the food for me. Finally, 20.75 hours later I got my burger and fries. SO I feel your anguish!!!
I guess they have most everyone show up at 6 am, in case someone doesn't show up, or they can take you out of order, or make SURE you are there in time or SOMETHING like that they say. I'd have been much happier starving at home until Noon, then gone right in for presetup.
Now, for my radio frequency ablation or injections, a 10-12 minute doctor's office preocedure, now that the doctor and his practice have been absorbed by the hospital it now takes 2 hours with complete hospital admission! instead of the half-in-and-out it USED to be. Only a way to bill the insurance FOR HIGHER COST, I guarantee you! AND there is NO "PREP" for it, no starving, no nohting..in my case I go in to the table, hike up my shirt, lower my pants, and climb on. Biff Bam Boom, he's done! It IS highly uncomfortable...about a 20 large needle sticks, even with the "anestetic" injected, you still feel all the needle sticks for contrast and the actual procedre too. BUT: point is, it's over in 10 minutes! I MAY be switching from that hospital to our regular hospital's pain center. Unless it's just as agrivating!
ANyway, ULRICH: I hope all goes WELL for you and Petra today.....
RAY: I thought maybe it's a regional thing...like one man's penny is anohter man's Copper! It still could be. Unless I am told by a Dr who has examined hte "evidence" to call it contractions, I will continue to call it was I was diagnosed with....complexes.... MAYO, John's Hopkins, etc...just an expensive way to charge a lot more for the things done here at Wilson or Lourdes! I don't take them to be the end-all to be-all, I'll go by the doctors actually looking at my test results. Just sayin'.
Now, even though we are in BALTIMORE, I will go hunting for what all we want to do oN MAUI next September for my birthday.

Reporting back from the hospital!
Petra´s surgery went fine and now she has started to move on the road to recovery. She has lost so much weight over the last weeks that I am really worried. Need to feed her well when she is back to normal food again!
I am now trying to catch up on the missing sleep!

If I can get a check from my church for the MLK Scholarship fund (they have a special offering every year for it) I will be heading to Canandaigua early this afternoon to drop of a large amount of $$$ to our 501c3 account. The financial guy at church misplaced the check.... We should have gotten it a month ago. I got an email last night from him saying he found it.
Best get moving. It should be a busy day (so what else is new.....).

That´s what I call a hitch in the git-along. I will be concluding my 61st year with that in a few months and I hope to have some more years ahead of me!
I'm back from my day off. Thanks for the wishes in the last thread, everyone. I spent my morning donating platelets (the blood component that's responsible for clotting), and in the afternoon got my teeth cleaned. Only a prostate exam could have rounded out that birthday of uncomfortable probings. But a lovely dinner out with my lovely wife turned it into a lovely day. Yum, chicken alfredo.
Speaking of uncomfortable things and the previous Diner thread, I hope we can leave discussion of other people's romantic situations in the past. None of us are qualified to judge how anyone else lives.
On a lighter note, this thread... started off with four posts in a row by Galaxy? I guess under Diner rules that means he buys himself breakfast, but he pays 4x as much for it.
And finally, Ulrich, it's good to hear that after all that difficulty and delay, Petra's operation finally came off. Best wishes for her speedy recovery.

Hobby front - No new news. I was planning on installing ice and water shield on my roof when I arrived home but it started raining.

Ulrich - Sorry Petra had to endure that but I am glad she has FINALLY had her surgery and that all is well. I know that is a relief for you as well.
Ray - Thanks for the article I read it all. I have no problem with cigs or alchol, dont use either. Cutting down coffee from 4 cups to two cups ( this one will be tough to take ) BUT the stress is the worst part. Unless I quit working there is nothing I can do about that. My job first qaulification is STRESS.
DC Jim - Unfortunately I have a very HIGH stress position, the first day back to w**k I am in a very heated argument with a vender about an underperforming superintendent who FAILED TWICE a very critical inspection. They tried to blame it on the inspector. Thank you for the good words. They were much appreciated

Sir Madog Reporting back from the hospital! Petra´s surgery went fine and now she has started to move on the road to recovery. She has lost so much weight over the last weeks that I am really worried. Need to feed her well when she is back to normal food again! I am now trying to catch up on the missing sleep!
After all the fiascos you and Petra have had I hope she recovers soon.

I will definitely post a sample picture or two of the coal hoppers. I also got the framework for a new holl carved today. (My previously mentioned hot knife came in very handy.) I didn't bring my camera to my layout, but considering it rained today, it was probably a good thing I didn't. I will take picts of the hill before I proceed any further with it.
