Mr. B. - I have used Turbo Tax products for years; going back 20 years when I owned a hobby shop and used TT to file my subchapter S return for the shop.  Did not have any issues this year, but I am not sure what version of Windows we are running at home; that computer is over 5 years old.  I did use H&R Block one year about 7 years ago because it was cheaper.  Never again; let's just say it was not up to TT standards.

Remember the tin can; the MKT's central Texas branch...

I'm back! Good to see the place is still standing. Big Smile

I'm not in the mood for sweets this morning, so as a reward for everyone's good behavior, I brought a tray of bagels and lox. (That's smoked salmon for you uninitiated.) Dig in!

Morning or evening all depending on where you live : )

Train front - Went out to the Hobby barn after work yesterday and installed strapping around the fdn. I bought a palm nailer ($56 ) that worked out great for the small teco nails, to nail the straps to the building. Really pleased with that tool. Some of the best money I ever spent on a tool ! No more banged fingers Thumbs Up

This morning I went to "The roof center" and picked up a thousand sq.ft. of ice and water shield" for the hobby barn roof. It was less than $40 a roll for 200 sq. ft. Lowes price was $70+ dollars for 105 sq.ft roll Angry twice as much for half the amount ! When the rain stops I will install that and we will be dried in !!

Lion - Yummy THANKS Dinner

DC Jim - That is terrible ! Our youth leader gave his "testimony" on how his life has changed. In his former life he was into drugs. He lost EIGHT friends to heroin overdose. I read in the local papers that it is an epidemic out there. Very sad.

FRRYKid - I am not one for ink. My deceased wife talked about getting a tattoo. I asked her if one would paint a mustache on a picasso. She said no. I asked then why would you tattoo the picasso that is you ! I thought she was so beautiful with out tattoos. She never got one. Not condemning those who do. Just not for me.

Ken - Sorry ! But I laughed out loud when I heard that all 11 horns went off at the same time ! Must have been like sitting in a traffic jam ! Traffic jam on the Cuda railroad ! By the way I thought that a smart way to test the system !

Ricky W - Thats not bad $2 for a piece of rolling stock. Little elbow grease and presto you have a car for the RR Thumbs Up

Dave - Better to be owed than having to pay !

Galaxy - May want to watch the discussion on marriage type. There are young viewers here who that may not be appropriate for.

Tin Can - if you do get to go please take some photos and share with us !

Ulrich - Live steam insode a building ? How dod they do that ? Must have one heck of a ventilation system.

Mr. B - I must have missed the discussion. What ails you ? Hope nothing to serious.

History qoute of the day:

The only way to be loved is to be and to appear lovely; to possess and display kindness, benevolence, tenderness; to be free from selfishness and to be alive to the welfare of others.

Here's to the red of it,
There's not a thread of it,
No, not a shred of it,

But heroes bled for it,
Faced steel and lead for it,
Precious blood shed for it,
Bathing in red.

Extra strong coffee in a UNION PACIFIC mug, please.

***Ken, YGW wasn't the only one who laughed reading about all those horns going off at the same time. I'm sure it wasn't funny for you at the time, but....Laugh

Good Afternoon!

Although it´s a fine day today, I feel a little bit down beat. Call it the Spring blues!

Zoe, coffee and one of the bear claws the Lion brought along, please!

YGW - the two 1/32 scale steamer are not live steam engines, just ordinarily powered by an electric drive, but equipped with a rather complex "Dynamic Smoke" feature which really beats all what I have seen so far.

If you put up a 1/32 scale layout in your hobby barn and let a couple of those beauties roam the track, I bet you´ll be the most poular kid in the `hood, bro!

The stuff may be shockingly expensive, but you won´t be spending more than a regular HO sclae layout filling the same space!

How I´d love to have one or two of those engines!

Good Morning,

Sunny day here with a high of about 45F, 55 tomorrow! The snow is melting nicely and should be largely gone by the weekend. Then we get to access the damage over winter to our garden. So far we have voles that have attacked a few key shrubs. Luckily they didn't chew the bark all the way around the stems or the shrubs would be goners. I will be heading out to the pest control store to see what they have to get rid of them that doesn't harm the birds, squirrels, etc.

On Sunday we finally downloaded the photos from our 2015 trip to Africa, all 7,000 of them. We hadn't done it earlier because Windows 7 didn't allow a photo sort in ascending order until recently. I guess they finally issued an update that fixed the problem. We will delete a lot of them as many are duplicates. We use the burst mode when taking photos of birds as that is the only way to reliably get a good shot. Birds have a habit of many quick movements so you think you have a good one and just as you push the shutter, it moves.

I finally finished planting the trees I had on the N scale. I will replace about 10 WS trees as soon as I can get something better. Their fall trees are far too bright and don't look very realistic especially next to the JTT trees I have. Unfortuantely I can't get more of the JTT trees so will likely go to a conifer. I'm pleased how the layout looks, just wish running was a little smoother. I think it just relates to N scale being very small and light.

Well time to get going on my errands.

How expensive are these ?

Now I am going to be a spoil sport - they sell for $3,200 up to $4,500, depending on the model. For that price, you get about 30" and 14lbs. worth of one the finest hand-crafted engines you´ll find.

KM1 products in the US are exclusively available from Reynaulds.

Hi, Folks!

Welcome back, Steve. Thanks for the lox & bagels!

Heartland Division CB&Q
Ed ... Thanks for posting YGW's photos. Shall we razz YGW for his lack of technology skills?  .. LOL

From what I gather, Garry, YGW has been razzed enough from his daughtersSurprise!

Bear, glad you enjoyed the Buster Keaton film. I'm ready to watch "The General" again!

Fun set of videos there, Ulrich. Seeing the Fairbourne Railway reminded me of this operation in New York.

There is a 3" scale railroad operating in upstate New York that has a New York Central Hudson on its roster. It's tough to find a decent video, or even photos of it, though. Near as I can tell, the lead man, Sandy Whittum, passed away in 2014 and I can find very little recent news. It is a privately owned railroad called the Hiawatha Live Steamers in Tupper Lake, NY.

The son seems to be the camera (?) operator and has less-than-ideal skills for the job. Still, quite an amazing locomotive! Green? Well, OK I guess... This has to be the closest possible experience to running a New York Central Hudson there is.

I would like to find out more about the builder of the locomotive. Where did the patterns for the castings go?

Ken, didn't you get this warning message before you did the deed?

I did the very same thing, almost. I still have NO idea how it happened!

I wanted to reduce the volume on my PRR turbine #6200. I called it up in Decoder Pro, program on main. Changed the whistle volume OK and did a save changes and exit.

The next time I ran the 6200 I had two-dozen, at least, locomotives all trying to run at once Bang Head ! Now the wierd thing is, only some of the engines were affected. Like an A-B-B-A set of Fs with the same decoders, only ONE of them acquired the new address!

I still don't know what I did or how that glitch happened. So out of about a hundred engines on the layout only a quarter of them were changed. Still a pain! Thanks to JMRI resetting them was easy, although time consuming.

I've been nervous about programming on the main ever since. When I HAD to program my only MTH engine on the main, I made up a separate length of track and wired that to the command station to act as a temporary "main". Not taking any chances Geeked

I have a few chores waiting— gotta run. Hope to have time to stop-in later.

Thoughts and prayers for those in need...

Regards, Ed

Mr. B - I must have missed the discussion. What ails you ? Hope nothing to serious.

Woe is me, it's my knee.  I have a meniscus tear, or so it seems from the MRI I got yesterday.  It's been months, and it's still sore.  I can walk around with minimal discomfort, but it hurts playing hockey and I have no strength to push off on that side.  I see the doctor tomorrow to figure out whether to try physical therapy, a shot or surgery right away.

I have a very early doctor´s appointment tomorrow, so I shall be heading for the hay in a few minutes. I have to get up by 5am, that´s way too early for this set of rags and bones!

YGW - another fine video, this time showing a Deutsche Reichsbahn class 41 Mikado with some more bells and whistles!

Ever watched the safety valves going of in a model of a steam engine?

Here you go:

Afternoon Diners,

Thanks for the salmon and bagels, Steven.

I enjoy the live steam videos that you guys are posting lately. If I had metal working skills and a few grand with a few cars. Then I would be running my steam or diesel locomotive.

Is that real steam (water) or oil? That was really incredible.

I was fine riding the bike after the injury late last fall, but the weather got too cold.  Actually, the bike seemed like the best thing for it and I can't wait for this winter to end.

This happened while I was getting up from the dining room table, very routine, and something went.  It was not even an unusual leg movement.

Evening Diners,

Thanks Gary. I'm been careful about my weight. I don't want to buy new clothes because of it. My weight is 180 but it has moved up and down since college back in 2006. My original weight was 170 and I haven't seen those numbers since.

I could've posted this earlier but I didn't feel like it.

With the hiatus of my layout not being built. Designing it has stopped. Buying the materials has slowed. It will be made.

I somewhat been researching the Chessie System. I always like the colors and the logo. Don't worry this is a universal train set that will locate any region.

Although my tagline signature that I model is real. I added a few other railroads like CSX, NS, BN, ATSF, SP, CS..

That's what you get for eating the whole thanksgiving dinner, place setting and all!

Maybe you should take up the reins from Michel Lotito.  He ate an airplane!

I'm back on the Atkins diet after a long hiatus, after the girlfriend got me to join a gym with her, which was expensive and unpleasant.  Now I'm back on the wagon and lost 15 pounds in the past month, which is mostly water weight according to the diet.  Now the real work begins.  Steven, I'll eat the rest of that, but no bagel please!

Layout wise, I'm still finalizing things, though I have most of it worked out.  After 2 years of dilly-dallying I've finally got a time frame nailed down and sorted out some industries that can interact with each other.  I've run trains on it and am mostly happy with how operations and building trains are handled.  Particularly challenging was finding a spot in the yard for the switcher and caboose to sit when not in use.

The 6x12 oval is still pretty crowded with my big diesels - A tail-to-tail pair of GP30s, a 2-car passenger train with an E9A/B set, and a DDA40X.  My yard has an SW7.

My current project this week is UP #8000, a SD40-2M "Fast Forty".  It's getting an econami decoder and new lighting.  It's going to pair with the DDA40X to get something close to the UP Centennial Sandwich (SVAN, OME, SUPRVN) that was common in the '70s.  The layout is just too small for another Centennial.

Good morning .... I'll have coffee and a pecan roll please.

We are in our final days of our visit to Milwaukee, Wiscsonsin celbrating MR's #1,000. I certainly thank those who live there and particpated in the activities. Steven has kindly provided some good food for us to chow down on.

We need a volunteer to start the April Diner thread. We (My Main Squeeze and I) are starting some traveling on April first, and I can not do so. .... This time, I included "Everybody is welcome" in the title, and I think more people were encouraged to participate as a result. .... Also, I added some language in the opening post encouraging Diners to read forum rules and adhere to them. I believe that was helpful because in my opinion we have had fewer problems with rule-breaking in March than in other months.

I received an advanced copy of #1001, the May edition of MR a few days ago. It is yet another great issue. I'm pleased to say I have a photo published in Trackside Photos in #1001, and I thank Steven for handling that.

EDIT .... Julian .... Nice to have you with us in the Diner this morning. ... (I did not see your post while I was typing mine.) Have fun working on UP #8000.

Have a great Wednesday, everybody.

Morning all

Sun is out and the site is back in full swing, sound of hammers banging, roar of equipment, beeping of deliver trucks backing up to off load material....music to my ears Headphones

Hobby front - No new news. Rained out yesterday afternoon. Didnt feel like working in the rain. Did bring home the roofing material I purchased and off loaded it, in the rain Lightning

Garry - How do you start the new thread ? In all the years I have been here I have never opened the diner. Not sure I am ready for that but I may try it in the future. Do you simply copy and paste or do you type out each one ? I am EXCITED ! To see your photo in the 1001 mag. What page can we view it on when it arrives in the mail ? Congratualtions !

Julian - Morning to ya. Why is the SD40-2m called "Fast forty" is this your name or a proto type nickname ?

Herrinchoker - Where did you find these qoutes ?LOL ! Love the flat squirrel qoute ! I replied to your PM.

Angel - Why are you taking a Hiatus from your layout ?180 ?! geez I havent seen 180 since 10th grade. Working to get closer to that weight. That was a neat video wasnt it !

Ulrich - Thanks for sharing those videos. They are simply AMAZING ! The detail is incredible. Did you see the two men in the back ground in the second video ?  I see that happened to you too about the table and weight, My weekness is ice cream! Followed by food in general !Whistling

Gary - That happened to me around 40 ! I passed a plate of food and BOOM  I was 60 pounds heaver ! Bang Head

Mr. B - Isnt that amazing how simply we get injured ?! This past summer at w**k I was standing on a flat 2x6 laying on a concrete slab. I turned and stepped off it at the same time. Instant pain!!!  An ambulance had to come pick me up and cart me to the ER. I spent four days in the hospital before I could get back up to a sitting position. I had fractured a vertabrae !!!

Ed - 100 locos on your RR ? WOW THAT IS IMPRESSIVE. Do you have any photos you can share with us ? That is odd. Especially since one of the ABBA only got programmed differently. I have always read that one should set aside a "program track.

Lion, Der, Galaxy, JaBear..........good morning hope to see you in here later.

Garry - I'd like to say I'm participating because of the title, but it's mostly because I wanted to see what people had going on, and work has been slow.  I actually have time to socialize :)

Steven - The only "virus" I can see is one that makes you want to eat more lox.  Maybe AVG got suspicious because the image contains a caper?

YGW - It's either a prototype name, longstanding fan name, or internal UP name for the SD40-2M.  These were SD40-2s that were first modified by UP and renumbered (#8000-8002), and regeared to 80MPH capability, and the following ones were built that way from the factory.

Have a few minutes while waiting on a reinspection of a unit.

Julian - glad you joined us and have time to socialize. Here have. Hot cup of on me. Thanks for the article. I read the entire thing. Several things struck me. One is how much an impact the economy has on loco type and speed. Also how convulated things get between ordering, pace of economy, deliver time. Makes for varied proto types !

Thanks again. Fun read.

 Afternoon Diners

Flo, Ed and I will have a Beer please.

Tuesday Work Front. Main reason I did not post yesterday was I way down in the dumps! Sigh Not a single customer came in the store for 9 hours? Boy I am screwed with this coming Commission Check that I use to make the house payment! No trips to K-10 Model Trains for me Thursday. Sigh

 DCC IS FUN! Confused

Ed Now that was funny! Laugh Think it was the only time I smiled yesterday!

One side benafit of the mess up? After resetting the decoders I am now running some of my old friends that have been sitting in the yard. Using my PK2000 C&O RS2 and PK2000 B&O GP 7 that Tin Can helped me with.

YGW Hobby Barn is looking good.

Day Off Feel like I have a ballon stuffed up my nose. Even the Horseradish has not helped much. But some how I felt pretty good. Changed out a new tire from the old Towncar that I will be selling to the Towncar I am driving. Fixed the weather stripping on the front outside door my Wife tried to fix with Duct Tape? Cleaned out some gutters (leaf blower works great even wet) and respiked the gutters I cleaned. Cleaned the pump I use to drain the pool cover and draining as I miss type! Big Smile

 Later, Ken
