Since I left this suspenseful thriller hanging...

I went to the doctor today about my knee.  He couldn't quite figure out from the MRI what was going on either, but he thinks it's an old tear, many years old, and I made it a little worse by getting up from the table.  He gave me a cortisone shot and said that might be enough, and if so, I should see noticeable improvement in a week or so.  Let's hope he's right.  Barring any other problems, I should be able to play hockey again next week.

Sorry to bring the diner back down, but I;ve been having this horrible stretch of life lately.  Tax stuff is costing me money, Very little in my life is providing me happiness right now, I'm finding out quite a few of my friends are two faced, and I have to find a new place to live, and nothing is working out.  I'm just at the end of my rope, and just frustrated beyond belief anymore.  The only thing keeping my sanity has been this board, and model railroading.  These are the only two things that manage to keep me from losing it.  So thank you all for being a place I can talk.

This is what I've been working on.  Former P&WV station that stood in Bruceton PA (on the current Wheeling and Lake Erie) until 2015.  Modeled as it was the last few days before it met the backhoe.  All scratchbuilt out of styrene, and detail parts.

Hi, Jimmy

Everyone seems to have to deal with problems that sometimes feel like they're impossible to get through, but take your time and try not to let it all burden you at once. Sort things out and try to deal with things in little chunks.

"Friends" come and go. You will look back and see things in a different light once you get through this low spot. There are ways you can get help with tax obligations, too.

I'll send you a PM sometime tomorrow, too. I'm a little short on time right now.

You made a good choice to talk about what you're going through here. Yes

I have also found our hobby to be a great "peace-of-mind" sanctuary and have been there myself.

Angel You have friends here! Angel

Take care—Ed

I know I'm not a regular in here, and I popped back in because of the diner location, as the diner is 30 mi. from me, the closest it's ever been, and not that it makes any difference, anyway, but, Jimmy, I've always followed your post in other parts of this forum.  Hang in there kid!  Things can really suck sometimes, keep your head up, it will change.  There's not a one of us in any of these forums that hasn't been through the same.  Your a young man, many of us in here are old enough to be your dad, or older.  My son is 36.  Find that new place to live, and look forward to it!  Change is good!  And the tax stuff, I know personally how it can be a major stress factor, and distraction.  Been there, done that.

The folks in this diner are top notch, and have a life time of experiance.  A good place for you to come and "let it go".

Mike.

Jimmy - I am feeling with you!

The past 8 years have been really trying ones for me. The loss of my business and subsequently, the complete loss of all our wordly goods, the foreclosure of our house, the loss of friends and a number of serious health issues have put quite a burden on my shoulder. But whenever a door is closed, another one opens. Petra and I have never been so close before, I have found new friends in this forum who helped me get back into model railroading, which is very much a "tool" to keep my sanity by giving me a dream or two to cling on.

Have trust in yourself and faith in Him and I am sure better times will be coming soon!

Morning all

Been having some strange feeling at my ticker. When it starts I get a throbbing feeling in my neck and head then everything gets a little fuzzy and I also get a bit nauseous. Went to my cardio saw bones and they are concerned I may have a blocked artery, so Friday I have to go in and they will look at my heart through a vein in the arm and and if they find something they may install a stint...or depending on what they find may be open heart surgery...Boy this is gonna mess up the hobby barn progress for a little while Bang Head

Garry, Dave, Ed. Ulrich - I am very proud to be associated with you guys and the way you have encouraged Jimmy, way to go ! Thumbs Up

Jimmy - Hang in there friend and no you are not bringing the diner down. Have you ever heard the story of Moses when his people went to battle ? He had friends who held his arms up. Whne his arms were up his troops would win in the battle. When his arms fell the enemy would prevail. You have friends here who can hold up your arms so to speak who can encourage you so that you can prevail in the battles or every day life.

MoeLarry - Morning to you too. Here have a Coffee of Joe on me !

Steve - Chicken mac ? Never heard of that. Is that a Milwaukee comfort food ? Is the green things celery ? Looks good though.

Mr. B. Have you had the knee scoped ? If the cortizone doent work ask your doctor about a product I think it is synbisc ( sounds like sin bisc ) ?? At any rate it is a better and longer lasting product than cortizone. I get an injection (three a week apart ) in my knee every six months. ( torn cartilage and two knee surgeries ) before I recieved the injection I could barely walk. I was a canidate for knee replacement but I like my knee better than the terminater metal knee Whistling Now I cannot even tell there is a problem until it is almost time to get another injection. It usually takes three sessions (9 total shots ) before you will notice marked improvements.

Hi all,

Been busy last few days with work and other things.

Jim, sorry to hear about the life challenges as of recent. Reaching out for help is a good plan, and glad to hear the hobby helps as a coping mechanism. I find model railroading to be helpful to just put aside the worries of real life.

YGW, thank you for checking in about my aunt. She is doing well. It had been good to see her and my uncle for a bit last week. I'm going to try and go down again this May when my dad and I will do a big furniture move.

On the MR front, I begun the process to paint and decal a pair of F&C Reading XMv boxcars I have built up. One I finished decalling last night and the other I will work on a bit today. For paint, I used Tru-Color Reading freight car red. By next week I hope to have both ready for final coats of gloss coat and dull coat. I'm doing to try the technique of sealing the decals with gloss coat, and then a coat of dull coat.

Steve, the lucky lox looks great. I may order one for myself, plus a tall cup of coffee.

Morning diners,

It's been a long day for me right now.

I was thinking of going to the store, but I can't drive and it's way to hot. In walking distance it's 30 minutes in driving distance 7 minutes.

The items I need are not important just trying not to get bored. And going to casino to play bingo isn't my kind of fun.

I received my Atlas Southern boxcar yesterday to bad the right side of the car ladder is completely bent and squished no way to repair it. So I'll be extra careful when traveling on the rails. The ladder isn't touching the trucks or the wheels.

Good afternoon all.

Flo - Some of that yummy chicken mac Steve brought in, and a Coke please. Thanks.

Steve - Welcome back! Hope your weekend was good. Thanks for the chicken mac!

Jimmy - Hang in there! Have some of Steve's chicken mac, and take a load off for a while. Things will start looking up, I am sure.

Ken - Sales had been slow, but this week picked up nicely. Hopefully you get busier with tax refund season.

YGW - I think the green ones are peas... The cheap railcars are the way to go sometimes... Just have to know what it is you have to go off of, and what you can reasonably get out of them. I only get ones that, (1) I can use, (2) that I can reasonably get up and running, and (3) that will look and run (reasonably) well once I am finished with them. (Look good at the 3 foot rule.)

Weather - Rain, sleet, wind and hail today... At 35-40F! Yikes!

W**k - March madness contest, as of yesterday morning, our store sat in second (!) place, out of 169 stores! Brackets get made up on Saturday night, (so just two days left) of the top 32 stores, and then each week, the stores get narrowed down. (Just like college B-ball brackets.) Last store standing at the end of April gets an extra $500 (to put towards paying bonus and spiff money) plus a trophy. Second place will get $400, Third and fourth $300, top eight $200, top 16 get $100. $50 for top 32. (So, unless something goes seriously wrong, our store should be a high seed!) Seeding will be 1 faces 32, 2 faces 31, etc... for the first week, then, it is highest that advanced faces lowest seed that advanced (without any re-seeding) all the way down to final 2 stores. (So, it could end up with the top seed getting eliminated week one by the lowest seed, just like B-ball tourney, etc...) Be nice if our little store, in a little nowhere town, beats someone bigger.

Hope all are well, and all enjoy the day!

This was the first time I actually got to see the doctor.  He was called out to do emergency surgery so the first time I only got to see his physician's assistant.  Then I had the MRI.

He was reluctant to scope the knee.  For one thing, I'm 70 years old and he could see some arthritis in there from the MRI.  He felt ther was some danger of making things worse, and admitted that I may need to go bionic on that knee before I go to the great roundhouse in the sky.  The shot was an easy first attempt to find a solution.

He said I should notice the difference in a day or two.  I feel better today, 24 hours after the shot.  The real test will come Tuesday.  He said it was OK to play hockey, if I felt good enough.

Far as the IRS, they will work with you.

YGW Sure hope a stent will do the trick if you need any fixing at all. If you have high cholesterol try fish liver pills! I stated taking them around 2011 and before that my cholesterol was around 245 or so. Never changed my diet, Chesse was it own food group. Eat chesse everyday and ate the fat on the meat I BBQed! Last time my cholesterol was checked it was 138.

Jimmy, sometimes life sucks, but when it sucks lemonade, add some sugar {or sweertner if you are adiabetic like me} and make lemonade!

First, I ma disabled, physically and mentally. I am bi-polar, depression, deep depression is no stranger to me. Neither is S.A.D. {Seasonal Depressive Disorder...comes usually lasts all winter}. Last year WAS NOT my year health wise, if you read my posts from last year. Pneumonia for 15 weeks, nearly killed me twice including hospitalization for it. Then Herniated disc neck surgery in MAy. TWo days AFTEr the surgery in MAY, in a car bad accident. Then shoulder surgery in October. 30 weeks of physical therapy total last year.

I get aroudn with a cane, having a bad back, bad hip and bad knee. I can't do a lot of simple things, like carry a small box down the stairs withouot falling and sprainign something.

This year is not turning out to much better. I was hoping surgery could help my back pain, which this was the worst winter for it, but still NOT a candidate for it. I WILL have a herniated disc inmy neck fixed {well again, HOPEFULLY...had one done last year now lets do the other one this year.}

Monday, I went for my injections for my back, got delayed by the doctor unitl today {thursday}, I haven't had them in 12 weeks, in the worst snowstorm to have to dig out of. Then on the way home from errands, I broke an axle on my minivan. When I got out to look with my cane, I slipped in some mud on the side of the road and WHAM! I came down on my bad knee..the one wiht an ACL ligament and MCL ligament tears hitting the pavement! Good thing I wear a knee brace {HINT HINT MR. B!!!}, as I THINK it helped defer the impact and cushion it! THAT was JUST my Monday!

The preceeding Thursday and friday were spent in the hospital with teh FIL who had a Trans ischemic Attack, a Mini stroke, OH goody. He is 89 this coming week, and it can be a precurser to a major stroke!

Yes, Jimmy, friends can be two faced, there is a resaon I have only a few close friends! I weeded out the idiot oneslong ago. The  ones I have are like "family" to me.

Taxes are trying even for simple ones. If you OWE money, ask the IRS for a payment plan in advance, and FILE ANYWAY...at least file for an extension! We jsut got ours done {for free help} recently, so our meager refund will be here shortly.

Jimmy:You need to find a place to live...did you know I was once homeless? lived under a bridge next to the Norfolk Souther RR tracks! In WINTER! IN NY!Not even a CAR to live in! I had a few good "friends" who let me sleep n their couchs and shower/laundry on the bitter cold nights, through one of them I met my future OH. Those friends used me, taking all my food pantry items under the guise of feeding me too, only to use the food for their benefit.. WHen I FINALLY got welfare and food stmps, well lets jsut say they robbed me blind. I had to go to welfare as I was unemployed, had serious health problems and ahd drained all my retirement funds to live/pay medical bills. When It ran out, I was HOMELESS. NO, FAMILY would NOT help out!

SPeaking of the OH, if you read some of my rants here, You know there is/has been for YEARS trouble ON THAT front, but I guess you could say it is resolving, or rather I've resolved to It. I am in a similar boat to MR. B... we both share a very unhappy married life. But since it WAS MOH's idea, we have an open relationship, and even though MOH could not handle it works both ways, I DO have a lover {two actually} on the side for happiness.

Yup. when you are DOWN. the only way is....UP!

SO..JIMMY...pull yourself up by your boot straps, contact the phone # 2-1-1, ask for help in finding a place if need be, and ask where you can get TAX help, quickly!. "2-1-1" is the "first call for HELP" in any situation in  ANY AREA, except 9-1-1 EMERGENCIES! DId you know that? FIND out HOW to be "resourceful"!!

BEst of luck to you, JIMMY!!

Prayers for all others!

Galaxy - May want to watch the discussion on marriage type. There are young viewers here who that may not be appropriate for.

YGW

YGW: with all due respect, i am sure you don't approve of MR. B 's and my "doings" regarding our marriages, but you have not lived our lives. The Native Ameican phrase "grant I may not criticize my enighbor until I have walked a mile in his moccassins" comes to mind. YOu have been LUCKY apparently twice in marriage, ours both the only ones wev'e had and has sucked. We even share something very much in common, unless MR. B wishes to share it, I won't though it is perfectly suitable for young viewers- "G" rated easily. With a  divorce rate of over 50% in this country, there are plenty of kids who have Mommy or daddy having a lover who is not the other parent, I don't mention it often and keep it brief. I think If COUSIN VINNY had a problem, he'd have said so long ago. Mr. B and I are just sharing the ray of hope and light at the end of the train tunnels we have found that keep us happy. That's all.

But we will try to keep it to a dull roar jsut for for you.

HAve a great night all....

Good evening.

YGW .. Prayers for you with the cardiologist. Definately, Hoping a tent is the most you will need.

April Diner .... Ulrich and Galaxy have started Diner threads in the past. If one of them would do so, that will be appreciated ...of anyone else ! . .... Pick a location. If I recall cirrectly, Henry has suggested the Thomas Viaduct in Maryland. If you do that, you may wish to include all of Maryland. The B&O Railroad Museum by itself is worthwhile.

The March Diner has been fun !

Evening to all.

Flo, please give Jimmy whatever he may want and put it on my bill. (I have been in similar straights. It took a few months but I managed to get back on my feet.)

Hobby Front:  Started lettering the first of my new coal hoppers. I forgot how much fun lettering these cars was. (Seventeen different decal pieces and that's just the herald and the reporting marks!)

I also got another car in the mail this afternoon and it needs a little bit of repair. I will also need to change the lettering on the car. I have most of the needed decals to reletter the car. However, there are two needed decals I don't have. One of them is a unique decal for this type of car. I need to contact a Facebook friend and see about getting a needed decal for the car. (He mentioned that he would send me a set or two but I think it slipped his mind.) The other piece is a reweigh decal. The sheet that I have doesn't have the correct infomation on it. (This is according to experts from the historical society for the railroad that this car is from. I also belong to this society as well.) From what I'm told the modeling committee is working on a decal with the correct information. Hopefully it will be ready for the convention this fall. Considering I've been wanting this type of car since last convention, I think I can be patient.

Good Morning!

What a night! Both Petra and did not catch much sleep and now we feel exhausted. I will be taking her to the hospital in a few moments for lab work, a check-up and the other normal pre-op routine. Surgery will be on Monday. I will fetch Petra this afternoon for a wekkend at home and than take her back on Monday - very early in the morning! We have to leave before 6am, surgery is scheduled for 8am and I shall be staying on until she wakes up, so I can see that everything is OK with her. I have no idea how long that will take!

Got to get ready to move now!

Ulrich:

Best of luck to Petra. Waiting for her to come out of surgery will likely be quite stressful. Hang in there! She will be in good hands.

When I had my back surgery the operation took three hours longer than planned. There were a lot of complications. Dianne and my son Cole were not informed of why the operation was taking so long so they became more and more worried as time went on. They needn't have worried. The surgeons were taking the time to repair all the damage that the infection had done. Had they not spent that extra time I would likely be in a wheelchair right now.

All the best my friend!

Ulrich: PLease know our prayers are with you!

My gallbladder operation was only about 2 hours. that included prep, the operation, and the recovery room, then I was sent upstairs to my room for what was supposed to be one night, but tehy kept me for two {for an emabarrasing reason}. NAd I was home, good as new. The ONLY MAJOR problem I had was I then Became HYPO glycemic, my sugar tended to DROP drastically and quickly, so watch out for that. I was told it was because the pancrease {responsible for sugar monitoring} can be adversely affected by the gallbladder, so watch out for that with her. That is what eventually led me to being diabetic now, another thing to watch for. As long as hse has had the problems with her gallbladder, it CAN be a possibilit it affected the pancrease.

Best of luck to you and Petra, and our prayrrs will be with you. I will light  a candle for you two later when I get home formthe dreaded shopping.

Well, shopping and not much else is on my list since I got the Radio Frequency Ablation yesterday. Hopefully he hit the right nerves nad will give me some time of pain free back. OR at least it will lessen the pain i do have. It was really BOGUS yesterday. His independent office has been absorbed by one of the local hospitals we DON'T GO TO for reasons of bad care {including taking 5 yearss to decide my gallbladder had to come out!}, so now what was once a simple Doctor's office proceedure of in and out in a half hour for a ten minute procedure NOW takes almost 2 hours! You have to be admitted to the hospital! they treat it like outpatient ambulatory surgery! Just for him to stick a few needles in my back! I'm going to have to look for alternative precedures elswhere. I don't see a pain management center for our local CHOSEN hospital, so I will have to see what the heck is going on. I don't like the way they handle it now for a 10 minutes DOCTORS office procedure!

GARRY {I think it was}:If no one objects, I will be glad to open the diner tomorrow, I haven't done it in a while, but will be happy to.

I will light a general Prayer candle for Petra, Ulrich and the rest of you who might need prayers, Like YGW, and MR. B's Knee.Angel

I will see what kind of trouble I can get into without doing to much. Maybe a load or two of laundry, and a few dishes to get tehm kinda cleaned up. Nothing strenuous. Gotta clean the vacuum cleaner as it is spitting dust, probably from not being thoroughly cleaned in a while. I can do that pretty much sitting on the edge of the tub. The sponge filter needs  agood wasahing out. as does the washable secondary filter.

Well I'd best get ready to do my shopping, I like to do it EARLY to avoid crowds, one of my mental illnesses.

Have  A GREAT day everyone, Including YOU JIMMY.Idea

It will rain here all day, the rivers are high already, hope we don't get any flooding! We are expecitng an inch and a half.

Geeked

I do feel SOME relief for my left side of my back, he'll do the right side in 6 weeks. But I cannot tell if the procedure took as the soreness of the procedure is still with me.

MR. B: i sent you a message!

Galaxy ... That would be nice of you if you start the April Diner thread. I think it helped to include "Everybody is welcome" in the title. Also, I think it is a good idea to include language as I did in the first post reminding people to follow forum rules.

Also Galaxy ..... Amen to your prayers for Ulrich, Petra, YGW, and Mr. B.. Prayers for you too.

Jimmy .... I did send a PM to you and I hope you received it.

One of my model railroad friends here in KY has been diagnozed with cancer, and he is in my prayers.

Everybody : .... Thanks for participating in the March Diner thread. It was a lot of fun ! Bow Bow

My Main Squeeze and I  are leaving for our trip tomorrow afternoon, and I won't be post much if any after that for almost two weeks.

I'll be off Monday, since it's my birthday! So I'll hand out the birthday cake now. Since my favorite kind of cake is carrot with cream cheese frosting, that's what I brought. Ask Chloe or Zoe for a slice.

Looks like the train is leaving the station, with the diner in tow.  Catch you all at the next stop!

Afternoon Diners,

I didn't want to talk about until today to figure out the results. Four days Charles got a leg injury by some known cause. Forming the next day he got completely sick. He didn't want to move, eat or drink anything.

So earlier this morning we took him to the vet. Diagnosis came out with x rays. Yes he was sick with a high fever probably valley fever. (Will probably know later on with the results) Valley Fever lives around desert conditions and makes people and animals sick when easterners don't have it. That makes me wonder how many snow birds come down during the winter and gets sick??

Charles leg is slight torn legament and might be resting for the whole week. That means no walking, jumping and etc to completely heal or $5000 for surgery. None of us has that amount of money.

So he's sleeping now and his medicine in another hour. At least my sister will feel a lot better.
