Afternoon.... Chloe a cup of decaf to tide me over to dinner would be great. Dinner will be Prime Rib au jus, a thrice baked potato, and some vegies, with some kind of fancy tart for dessert...
I just got home from the Doctor's office and have a few minutes before I put on the "Sunday, Go To Meeting" clothes for the dinner. Doc says i am completely healthy and all the blood work was excellent! He said I have lost 12 lbs. over the last year and I seem to be doing everything right. Total cholesterol was 136 with the Cholesterol/HDL Ratio at 3.00. That puts me in the considerably less than half average risk for heart disease group. My A1C was 5.9 (they want it under 7.0 for a diabetic to be considered "well controlled"), the 12 hour fast blood sugar was 112. Only item that was higher than it should be was my Uric Acid... So what else is new. At least this year I don't have any home grown asparagus to pig out on and cause a gout attack.....
Time for me to get dressed for the big event and head over to the college Dining building. We hold the dinner in the fancy-dancy big ballroom on the second floor with all the electronics stuff.

YGW, I picked up a NS covered hopper Acurail kit, and two old BB cars, one covered hopper, one 60ft DD Box. The two BB cars will be more heavily weathered than the Acurail hopper will get. The two BB cars will be heavily faded, and possible patch for reporting marks, as they are in old EL paint, but modern enough build date for my layout. (Close to end on the one, having 5 years, so nearing either rebuild or scrapping, the other would still have another 10 years.)
Cudaken, Sounds like the time I ad a customer expect us to fit a 60" TV inside a Beetle.... Just wasn't gonna happen! Some people just expect anything to fit in a dinky car.
Well, my schedule changed, so I will just get a order of Barry burger and fries, to go Flo. Back to work for me... Tux orders came in, and the store manager is having issues with her eyes today.

Saw an article on the first Bauhaus structure. It was built in Weimar around 1923. If I remember correctly, that was around the time of the "Bier hall putsch." Bauhaus was a very avant garde art movement at the time. Here in the US, we had the arts and crafts (mission) style and the Amish/ Shaker styles, but there was nothing else even close to Bauhaus. Quite revolutionary.

The tree surgeon hasn't shown up yet to cut down the two trees in my neighbors back yard. I will have to leave before 1:30 to get to my doctor's appoinment. Hope he doesn't show up about the same time I am walking into the medical center across town...... My son showed up to borrow my old spud bar to dig a hole in his yard for a tree they are going to plant in a raised bed that they had a tree removed from a few years ago.... He wanted to know how many generations that hunk if steel had been in the family. I told him I inherited it from my father who inherited it from his father. Don't know if it goes back another generation or two.

Good morning! And it is, with the temperature in the low 60s already and a bright blue sky. I played hockey last night and I'm beat. The coffee is slowly doing its thing, though.
Ray, your story reminded me of what was a frequent occurance where I used to work - over-response to minor incidents. Our facility had a safety record that corporate loved to brag about, but face it, it was just an office building, a cube farm. Tough to get hurt even if you tried. We did have a health club, though, and every so often one of us old gray guys would push it a bit too hard or start a workout without enough fuel in his body, feel light-headed and even pass out. The typical response was 2 police cars, 2 ambulances and a full-sized fire truck. For one guy in gym shorts and a T-shirt.

Another rainy day in Northern Virginia day 19 of rain out of the last 21 days. My daughter had some blood work performed and the test is just to rule out a problem that they do not beleive is the problem. Short answer is they just do not know. I have found that medicine has come a very long ways in the last fifty years there is a whole lot they just do not understand yet. Interestingly we were talking with some mothers of on my daughters sports team and a surprising number of women told us they expierenced something very similiar when they were young and the doctors never found out the cause. I think three women told us this. One said it took six months for the symptons to go away.
Garry - We are sending a whole bunch of prayers for you and yours.

Angel - I find that surprising that MRC is not better than that. They have been in the industry for years. One would think they would actively work out the kinks and make their product better. I read an article about Henry ford who wanted to get into the tractor business. The article said he built 50 prototypes before he started Fordson (sp? ) tractors. He was commited to a good product and actually used the prototypes on his farm to test them out before he put it on the market.

I had an eventful day on Monday as I had an MRI so the doc can have a better look at my prostate. It was a strange experience to say the least but not unpleasant. It cost me $9, for parking.
I have actually finished the Dairy Queen and have it placed on the layout. I just have to mix up some paving for the lot and do some finishing. I also got the Northern off its storage track beside the engine house as I plan on running a bit. It sure is a lovely site, just wish I had a big enough layout to do it justice.
Well time to get ready to go, the birds are waiting.

Today was a Ash Pit day. Very few things went right! Things really went down hill when a lady came in to pick up her King Sizes Mattress in a Dodge Caliber? Started crying when I told her "If we stuff it in there, it will not come out!" She finally rented a U Haul small truck and it was still hard to get it in it but we did.

Work front: While I was off today, I was told about an possible position in another nearby company that would bring a decent sized pay raise, and every Sunday off. (Farther from home, but nothing impossible to do.) Hopefully it will work out... We shall see. I now sit in second in the district, average per hour on acoounts activated, after yesterday when I left for the day. Sales were off, as @4pm we had sold $570. (Normally, by 4pm we would be @950ish.) Total numbers wise, I sit second in store on acoounts, and second in sales for the month.
Modelling side: Have a couple of projects ongoing, between weathering and the cars I picked up over the weekend. I will be breaking out the airbrush after work tomorrow afternoon, giving a few cars some flat clear coats, to prepare for, or seal, weathering projects. Tomorrow I only work till 3, and the forecast is sunny with a high in the mid to upper 60's, almost perfect painting weather. (In May in NW PA anyways!)

Been a busy day around here today getting all the details done for tomorrows MLK Scholarship Dinner. I think I finally have all the i's dotted and the t's crossed. I got most of the lawn mowed and got my hair cut.
Have a doctors appt. tomorrow at 2pm and then have to get home change into my Sunday Go To Meeting clothes and get down to the College by 4:30 to meet with athe AV guy to make sure all is up and running for the Dinner Program. Will be packing the car tomorrow before I go the the Doc's.
We had some excitement here in my neighborhood this evening. Looked out the window and saw just a few house down the street two Ammmmule-ances, three Poleeeece cars, two fahr trucks, and at least a dozen or so Voooolunteeeers from the Fahr Depatment all standing around in the street and blocking traffic. This went on for about 15 or so minutes when they all moved their Vee-hicles outta the road so the ammule-ances could drahve away back down the street. But when they did that they turned off all the flashing lights that had been going around and around all the time they were setting there. That tells me one of two things. 1. it was maybe a false alarm... or 2. whatever was the reason for the call got carried off not in living form....... Guess it might be in tomorrows Finger Lakes Crimes....

Hello. I'm in Alabama with my mother and other family members. My Mother was moved to ICU Saturday morning because of major problems in addition to her back injury.. Meetings went well. Got through quicker than I thought I would. still late. Yard wars and yard machine wars continue. Broke the weed eater this week end, Both riding mowers are down - again - soon this place will have grass up to my waste . Hopefully have all of the parts and running by Friday. Oh and it is raining AGAIN. Day 18 of rain out of 21 days !
V8 - Wow I think either you are one tough dude or you way understate the discomfort. I had one installed last year and I tell you for a while I thought a good knock to the head to knock me out sounded like a good option vs being awake with the pain !
Johnboy - Daughter is going to see another specialist today. Still they do not know what is going on. My wife is not feeling great. She needs to get back in the gym I think she would feel better if she did.

Well what I was talking about last evening I can carify a bit for you non-WP fans or I guess that should be non-CZ fans. so here goes >>>
The equipment used in the operation of the California Zephyr was as unique as it was beautiful. The participating railroads kept the equipment in high state of cleanliness and repair during the train's heyday. While by design, consists were made up to include only the stainless steel Budd cars for a completely matching train set, there were occasions, due to equipment damage or breakdown, which necessitated inserting a non-California Zephyr car as an emergency replacement. The service agreement with the Pennsylvania and New York Central railroads for continuing sleeper service to New York City from Chicago also was a factor.
While the PRR owned one of the CZ cars for this service, it was not unusual for there to be a splash of color and variety in the consists when one of their other cars was included.

Must be good weather everywhere as the diner count has gone way down and especially this evening. It is 10:25 here and nobody again since Dennis, and I imagine he is in bed recovering from that dental work.
Not much new here. I did manage to scoop up a California Zephyr slumbercoach made by Con-Cor. It is the one with the staggarded windows which belonged to the PRR. As far as I have found, I think there was only 2 or possibly 4 of these coaches that were put into the pool with CB&Q, D&RGW, and WP. so that they could have coast to coast service for folks who didn't want to change cars in Chi-town to continue on to either coast. I think it only gave them two choices a week to go through on, but it was not without a wait in Chiicago to put the car onto the other train The car is named "Silver Aspen". So I have spent the evening putting on body mounted Kaydees and blinds on the windows, and Intermountain 36" wheels, after tuning up the trucks.... Thanks Micro Mark. Will give it a trial run tomorrow evening after work.

Really like you leds Br. Elias, I would like to put some in the floor of my elevated station to light up the three tracks below it. Any other pointers. Do you put them in parallel with only one resitor or do you use one resistor for each parallel crossing of two leds ?
Ulrich, I pray that you can overcome the blues, thats not a great way to go through the rest of your life. You really have to make a effort even if it is only to accept your place in life and pray for continued help to make things better. When you have done all you can do , turn it over to God.

For the past four days the air conditioning isn't doing so well. The hot air is making the house hotter, but I'm blaming the hot arizona sun.
I'm thinking of a buying a new DC power pack. I been using a train set one from Bachmann or Life Like, it's basically the same instead of the color. My old one has been acting up, it wouldn't start the locomotive (its new) later on the locomotive started running a little bit.
I was thinking of a MRC Tech II, IV, or VII. But the past forum posts on them made the decision difficult. My model railroading play time if I'm lucky one hour. Sometimes I do get bored with it.
With the temperature rising, I have been getting out earlier for my rides. (When I say early, I mean on the road at 5:45am.) On Saturday it was already 80 at 5:45, but this morning it was a perfect 70. What's more, I am getting my legs back. Today's average speed was the fastest in nearly two years.
On the rail front, I am once again engaged in working on my layout. I was so discouraged by the problems with the shorts, I had lost all interest. Now that I have fixed the problem, I am back to thinking about what to get next. I have a whole bunch of blank space that needs to be filled. The challenge is variety in the N-Scale world. I will have to be happy with using the same buildings, but getting variety through different paint schemes. I don't have the skills and confidence to do any bashing or scratch building.

I slept in until a few minutes after 9AM this morning. guess io needed a bit of extra sleep.... Turned off the computer around Midnight. The ink jet on the main black feed clogged yesterday. I think it happened when my next door neighbor stopped over to let me know he was having the huge apple tree in his back yard (next to my property line) taken down later this week along with a mostly dead old sugar maple. He told the guy taking the tree down to save the wood for me. i reminded him i no longer heat with wood. He got a puzzled look on his face and said, "Oh, that's right..." I told him I was sure my sone would love to get the wood! Went over to Son's house for supper and asked him if he wanted the wood... He grined and said, "YES!" He will be off on Thursday, so depending when the trees come down we will be getting some excersize hauling wood over to his house. He should be all set for next year with what he has left from this year and the smaller wood from these trees and will have a good start on the following winter.
Printer..... I took apart and thoroughly cleaned the print head witha 50/50 mix of distilled water and Alcohal. It now works fine. It is giving me a message that the ink diaper (absorber) where the excess ink goes when it does the cleaning cycle is almost full and to contact maintenance.... Right that will cost more than a new printer. I will do some online research to see what that entails and see if it is something I want to tackle. Of course my other printer, an HP wide format one is out of ink, so I couldn't just switch printers. Should be done printing the programs shortly

Last night, I made myself a dinner of pasta ala carbonara and a nice garden salad. Then I settled down and watched "The Martian" on pay-per-view. I loved it, and it was nice to watch a techie movie without having to explain things to my wife constantly, as she's still in Ireland.

Ken, I've got a first-rate contractor I use for big stuff like roof repair, but for smaller jobs I've got a friend at hockey who's a carpenter. He works for a construction company, but he free-lances stuff on weekends. If you can find someone like that, through personal referrals or maybe something like Angie's List, that might be a better choice. Places like Home Depot contract out work when someone buys fence and wants it installed. You might see if they can give you some names, and then use secondary sources to get references.
