Wheb n we had a big dumpster like that in Brooklyn you had to post an armed guard at the dumpster to keep the neighbors from filling it up. Whe we got on in Manhattan we could fill it up three times before they carted it away.

galaxy
A 15 yard dumpster will have to be here next week or two to dump/throw stuff in! Not trains, but there are plenty of them to pack up!

We have a "safe and secure" neighborhood and with it in our driveway, I doubt the neighbors will do much dumping, and anyone is welcome to take anything we dispose of!

Not the trains!

... he does have a show where he makes a living running other people down trying to make himself look good. --- When one is a REAL PROFESSIONAL he never runs other companies or other workers down. He lets his character, professionalism, workmanship etc... speak for itself. When you are good, have character, professional others will beat your door down to hire or employee you.

Galaxy - In my recent move the transition was the worst part. Glad that is over. Good luck with this phase.

TTYL YGW

sorry but I beg to differ adn I diagree with you, YGW:

A "professional" knows what is rihgt, does it rihgt the first time so it doesn't need to be redone. And if he/she is NOT,then they deseerve to have their name and reputations dragged through the mud.

If one is an idiot in carrying out "professional" duties, then one deserves to have one's work and integrity "run down" the company or workers as you call it, by someone who knows what is the right thing to do. I have seen walls built on TV that OBVIOUSLY wouldn't support the structure, and I ain't no construciton engineering genious! They HAVE changed the laws in CAnada {where MH isfrom} to allow people RIPPED OFF by "contractors" to be able to sue and charge them with crimes due to MH's efforrts.

Like here, a contract can do shody work- even dangerous work- and still collect pament or simply place a lein on a property to get their money. The homowner has NO recourse but the $3k or so in small claims court. AND a lien can STIll be placed agianst the property and the homonwer has  recourse aganst that either, nor is even alerted to it..

I am sorry, but that is worng.

Both the last contractors My FIL had {roofer and a searate siding contractors} took his money, demanded more {like double the estimate and initial "payment in full"} to "finish the work"-holiding his bare roof and walls as hostage, and left thim with a leaky {normal hipped} roof where there had been none, and the siding wasnt even straight or lined up at the corners! The siding guy also lowered the wire connectors to the house for cable {instead of raising it or replacing it where it was}  and that lowerered it over the road where a truck went up the hill and snagged the lowerd wire, and it ripped off with the siding {steel} on that whole {front} side! The roofer's truck also sat in his drieway long enough to sink into it and damage it. The roofer held his garage {the truck parked in driveway in front of it} hostage wanting his 'overage in labor" bogus charges.

Because My FIL took all actions agianst him {the roofer}, he had to replace the driveway and was charged with crimes and is now serving 4 years in jail!

Separate incident: my parentsseveral years ago  had a another nihgtmare with a roofer. No leak prior to a simple tearoff and replace on well built plywooded 1957 roof on a ranch. The roof leaked as the roofer didnt bother to seal it at the chimney with flashing, , put the wrong sized boot on the sewer vent pipe  {too big and allowed water in} and didn't bother to seal it either. The shingles were misalinged. and finally the valleys weren't shingled rihgt either so THEY leaked in places NEVER leaked before! They took them ot court and the judge knew the contractor and ruled in his favor! They had to re-roof it within the year.! AND PAY the stupid dumb contractor.AAD PAY again for a new roof!

Sorry YGW THAT IS ALL WRONG!

 Morning Dinners!  Big Smile

 Flo, Coffee please

Little busy Friday. Called all the customers that had pick up's at the store and explain why we where not open Wed and Thursday. (did not bring up Dave real problem) Luckly no one was mad. Most will be picking up today.

Does Dave still work for the company? Who knows. He is not scheduled to work next week and I have a Salesperson wanted sighn on the door. That diffrent. I have no idea if he will show up today. If I was a betting man, I would say No he won't show.

Cutting back on smoking. I was a 2.25 pack a day smoker, this week I am avg 27.0 cigarettes a day. I know, just one a day is to many! But is a good start I think. With Dave not working, it will be harder to get to the Stop Smoking Clinc. For now I am back to working 6 days a week.

Cuda - dont do it stay away from the Beer

YGW, I can't even have even one Beer? Crying

I feel like I have the beer demon licked at this point. I don't crave it like I use to. I hardly think about drinking after I get home. In the last 15 days I have only drank Beer 4 times.

1 BBQ reason I drank, that when I decided using BBQing was a Cop Out and have not had a beer while cooking after that.

2 Zoning letter, yea that one put me straight into the beer cooler.

3 Having Dave hauld away by the police. I was stressed all day and having a few cold ones did help me relax.

4 Worked hard in the backyard. Like I said I earned that day.

Well, I have to go to the bank for work so I got to go.

 Latter, Ken

Brother Elias, very sorry to hear of your accident. I bet you didn't know I have a pair of Lions at my house! Yep, they were a present to my wife and I a year before she died. They still give me comfort and remind me what a good pair we were..... Today they were on track down cellar: (On Track Fee Lions)

Your LIONS aare beautiful!

I showed them to the nurses who were also pleased with them.

I am getting good treatment here and my roomate is another monk from our Abbey. He is 91 which is enough explanation for his stay here.

Good Afternoon, Gang!

It´s a dull day, as Barry would say. It has stopped raining, though, but it´s still gray and rather dark. No sign of improvement in the next days. As it seems, the "golden October" will be postponed to next year!

My order of paint and ballast arrived. It was short of 1 bottle of paint and the ballast is the wrong one. Oh yes, it´s the one I ordered, but it is to fine to be used for ballasting the track. My fault! It is not a complete loss, I can use it for ballasting the paths left and right of the track. Today´s mail came fairly early, so i was able to finish painting the track quite early as well. That one bottle delivered was sufficient to do the job, so I am not unhappy not having received the ordered second bottle. While the paint is drying, I started to watch a video series of the building of a "tiny house". It shows the excellent job of a Canadian couple building their new home, all the way from the design stage, using Google SketchUp to the finished home. The videos are quite entertaining, but are also planting some thoughts into my brain ...

Without going into further detail, things are getting quite rough at this end. The daily influx of Moslem "refugees" (most of them young males)  amounts to between 15,000 to 20,000. I am not commenting on how wrong it is to undermine a society based on Christian values with such a high number of people not willing to adopt our legal and moral standards, but our society is not able to cope with this. It´s time to leave, but where to and how?

The whole issue is giving me more than just a headache.

Ken - 27 cigarettes a day are 27 too many. Reducing is not quitting, and quitting you should do! If you  want to quit, put out the last one you smoked and that´s it! It´ll be a tough one for a few days, but it´ll improve soon.

Ray ... That's thoughtful of you to post the lions for Lion.

Lion ... How soon can you get back to model railroading? Must be a challenge for people in north Dakota with their subway serive suspended.

Ulrich ... Wish I could comment more on the topic in your third paragraph. I'll simply say world leaders are not leading. ... Glad you are working on your model railroad.

Barry ? ... Ulrich mentioned Barry. Where are you, Barry?

Frank ... If I decide to go ahead and get a Sylvan models truck kitt, may I ask you for advice?

YGW ... Don't let work stress get to you.

Ken ... Hopefully, Dave is no longer working for your employer. I hope you can break the smoking habit.

Mark H ... Good to see you. Sorry to hear about the lumbar pain.

Richard ... So you are piano player, too. We have a talented group here in the diner.

V8 Dennis ... I saw the CA mud slides in the news. What a mess !

FIrst, i envision FINISHING off the basment! THEn I envision just a nice 8'square {2'deep} shelf with central pit. Take two 4x8s and cut in 1/2 and put in a square, with 4'x4' center square is about all. I cannot tke up the whole basemtn as we really wnat a finished room with a 1/2 bath down there and kitchen-ette, done on a budget, over time of course. AFTer we finish off the 3 season room! AFter we make some mods to the kitchen.

I will have to work it in but for now, don't know...

We will see!

MOH also wants a Nscale layout too!

Evenin' folks!

Janie, I could sure use a hot cup of decaf right now....  There were little white thingies falling out of the sky every now and then this afternoon out at the Museum.  Nothing to cause any problem, just a few flakey thingies drifting down on us......  we had another huge day out there.  The treasurer of the museum was there and he just posted an email saying we sold out once again and had people lined up to by tickets at 9:30AM.  We don't open until 10AM  Sold out meant we sold 756 tickets and also had around 500 kids under 5 years old that don't need tickets....  Lucky we had the place well staffed and everything ran very smoothly.  We did one extra run at the end of the day so by the time we tied up the train, signed out, and I drove home it was 7PM when I walked in the door.  We do it all over again tomorrow.  Tomorrow is our last day of the season...

Currently 37°F outside and there will be a major killing frost here in the Finger Lakes region tonight with the temp going down to 27°F.  I had to scapr some frozen stuff off the windshield this morning on my way to the museum.  I also kicked on the HVAC system in the car which startes up the ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) so I ran the first leg using EV assist for the Gas engine rather than being on full EV.  I found out the Guy who has brought out his petting zoo for the October events is staying right at the Museum in our PC Caboose tonight.  Lucky the heat (kerosine stove) is working in it so at least he will stay warm.

Lion, glad you like the pair of fuzzy lions I have.  Do know you are in my prayers for a good recovery!  I'm sure you wouldn't mind a Presbyterian doing that for you. Whistling

OK, I will be heading out to bed early tonight as 6:30 will come early tomorrow morning.

Have a greast night everyone!

Hey diners,

Not much in a talking mood lately. Things that happened during the past week.

My brother got a girlfriend named Elizabeth "Liz" for short.  My sister got into a car accident. My brother's dog got sick and threw up two days. We decided with the cheapest route with a shot $96.00 to make him stop but didn't work. I been slowly fasting him and including food.

Train News: Did you anyone pre-order Kato Amtrak P42's from N Scale Supply? Almost everyone else has them out already. I wrote to them and they said " When they come in we're ship them." It's been a week, should I wait or cancel it and order them in a different store and save $18 dollars.

Good Evening Diners,

Brunhilda, a large Earl Grey tea with cream and honey, please.

Nothing exciting happening here.  It's supposed to get below freezing tonight.  Thrill!  But wait, it's supposed to back up to 70 next week.

Ulrich:  I can understand the compassion for another human being in distress, but Germany has had problems for decades with "Gastarbeiter" from another culture.  With that, why would they welcome more?  Maybe I'm missing something here.

Dennis:  MOH tells me that mud slides have been happening in the Grape vine.  If I remember correctly, that's fairly close to Sylmar.

Ray:  Those lions don't look scale.

LaughLaugh

Seriously, that was pretty thoughtful to do for Lion.

Hello to all, and I hope everyone is OK, safe, and warm.

Less is more,...more or less!

The nurses have been fussing over the LION all night. Leg remains sore. In the hospital they asked me if i needed a pain pill, here I am supposed to figure it out by myself and ask them for one.  This does not woork as well for me, but different place different laws.

Lion: when in pain, him asks for or takes a pain pill when him in pain! When him not in pain, him not take pain med. SImple as eating wildebeast when him hungry. Do they have him up and walkiing yet?

well, I will go tomorrow and get the rolloff ordered. I was debating on 10 or 15 yard but is only like $15 more for 15 over 10 so might as well go 15. Tonight will start packing up remiaing traick not glued down on my litle layout and the buildings too and pack away. got 3 plastique bins for such at wally world this morning. probably need more! no wiat, i need tho rolloff first as I cannot get to the layout, is trapped in there! Need to throw schtuff away.

we will have 3 friends and my father? to help with the move? It will be done over three days. The 7th, the 21, the 28th. two afternoons and a full day. I will go back and forth some too moving smaller things as they go slowly over.

so, we cannot wait for 2 things: 1} our inspection on Wed and 2} our closing! oh wait, 3 things: 3} the sale of our trailer CHEAPLy.

THEN we can get all moved!

We will each sleep apart as to when all is done so one is here, one is there...so no one gets any wise ideas.

we will see...

Good Afternoon!

Another slow day? Vinnie must have laid off some of his staff - I only see Chloe hanging around with a lackadaisical expression on her face...

It´s been a slow day here as well. Did not do much, just ran my trains and watched more of that tiny house building series on Youtube. Come to think of it, that´d be a nice project for Claus and me. He´s got all the tools needed, but we would have to find a place where to build it ...  Wrong continent and country, though!

G-Man - heck, that´s only a few days left before you move! It´s going fast now! Take care and don´t overdo it!

Forum policy would not allow me to give more background information on that illegal immigration scheme, its origin and its supporters, so I will leave it at what I already said about it. Only that much, it´s a giant scam, involving top ranking government people, not only in this country, but also yours as well as other countries, like Turkey, Greece et al. It´s scaring the (beep, expletive deleted) out of Petra and me (and millions of other Germans, who remain silent, for whatever reason).

I should follow Galaxy and order one of those containers to dispose off all stuff not really needed to survive.

The gun ad in November MR is again a controversely discussed issue. I am shocked by some of the statements, given the fact that the Roseburg shooting happened only a few days ago.

I am disgusted by the amount of violence, which is displayed even in something so peaceful and harmless as the hobby of model railroading. I don´t want to take part in this.

Folks who wish to remain in contact with me know my email address and I will be happy to read those emails and answer them.

I am sorry, but I had my fill now - I won´t come back here!

I'm a guy who walks by and peeks in to see how the discussion is going and have always been impressed by your approach to the hobby and to other people. I truly hope that you will not let the comments of a small minority keep you away from the vast majority of others on this forum who feel as you do. Your contributions will be sorely missed by your diner colleagues as well as those like me.

Our Dear Ulrich: DON'T elt one thing offset you form what is an overall good thing. I would not, for instance,  abandon a GErman forum-if I was on one-over the issue you mention above, for instance.

Like you I have opinions on boht issues, but simply can't express them here. SOME of which you know! and I am heartfelt on ONE issue dear to me that I cannot express at ALL here,-verboten!. you KNOW which one  I mean!

Good Afternoon,

A very sunny, warm 63F here today. We did have a major frost on Saturday morning as in 17F but back to the nice stuff for a few days. We  took advantage to get some yard work done today to prep for the coming cold stuff.

Jerry, nice to see you in  the Diner! Hope you stop by often as I for one miss your posts.

Ulrich, hope you do come back. Send me a pm if you would like to discuss this with me.

Well, no time to do any RR stuff today, and likely not tomorrow as it is just too nice outside. I see Rapido want to send me to the poor house with all those Canadian steam announcements. I guess I'll just have to confine myself to one or two of the CN offerings. Mind you I'll be over 70 by the time they are all out.

Well it is another Sunday which means our PBS tv marathon.

Tomorrow is the big vote day up here and it will be an exciting election to watch. We voted last weekend in an advance poll. No comments as that would be against the rules, but the sign on our front lawn isn't blue.

Good evening.  Well,  I have received my week's quota of sporting events starting with college football, Penguins - Leafs hockey game followed by more college football to a couple of pro games today and a NASCAR race.  I even stained up a batch of ties this afternoon.  Plan to glue down a batch of ties on a curve and get on with more track laying this week.  MOH has reminded me that I committed to have the bottom of the back porch closed in by winter.  So I will be splitting time between the layout and outside this coming week.

Encourage all our Canadian friends to vote tomorror if you have not already been to the polls.  At least Canadians limit the election cycle to a somewhat sane time period unlike the US with its never ending campaign cycle.

Lion, hope you are experiencing less pain and healing satisfactorily.

Galaxy, good luck on your closing process and getting your trailer sold.

Well, cooler weather has arrived.  I actually turned the thermostat from cool to heat last night.  Probably a good thing as it was 29 F this morning.

Have a great week, all.

Afternoon, ah.........  Hmmmm???

Oh, Chloe,  At least you are here.  Where is everyone?  An altercation?  Oh, that must be why I saw Vinnie running down the street with his crowbar in hand.  Everything appears to be settled and certain things have been removed I see.  I just need a cup of dark roast and a couple sour cream glazed donuts for the moment.

The season is basically over out at the museum.  There is supposed to be a Santa Train Weekend in late December, but that is it.  We had another huge weekend out there and everything went incredibly well.  This has been the best season ever for the Museum and many, many volunteers have made it so!

I can now turn more attention to the hobby side of railroading, although I really do enjoy the 12" to the foot scale and working with the public out at the R&GV RR Museum.  Last weekend we ended up pulling the train with the FM H12-44 which ran flawlessly if giving us at times a rough ride.  As long as everyone on board is doing what they are told, that actually reinforces some of the things I tell them.  I told several groups that I prefer then to stay seated and they would find out why soon!  And that it is better they find out while sitting down....  BAM!

I'm hoping the paving contractor gets back to me soon and sets the date to do the driveways.  If I haven't heard back from the plumber by late week I am going to see about getting someone else to do the work I need to have done.  This is getting rediculous!  It has been over 3 months....

Sun has been shining all day so far here in the Finger Lakes Region of NYS with a high today of 55°F maybe.  Had a good killing frost over the weekend.  It was sure nice to have the stove working in the caboose!

LION has been up, but not walkin, nowhere near, though him did put some feet on the platform walker. Him Pleased enough that him could stand without assistance, though with two cheering aides watching.

Them brings me Diet Dr. Pepper upon request. That goes in the top end. We have a catheter to take it out on the bottom. I'll see the urologist tomorrow. That of course is a separate issue from the broken leg.

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Lemonade Please.

Soory I have not posted any the last few days. Just been down in the dumps, nothing speical set it off just down for some reason?

Work Front Well the other shoe dropped on Dave! Dave is no longer my problem, or the companys if fact. Yes they gave him the AX! While I am glad to be rid of him, I am still sad about the whole thing. I just hope this is the wake up call he needed to beat his habit. I do wish him and his family well.

My battel with smoking. I am making head way on stopping, well more slowing down. Today I went 5.5 hours at work with out lighting up. A small step, but a step. I hope to hear back Tuesday from the Stop Smoking Clinic of the VA.

Again I am a lost about what set Ulrich off? Was it the fact they where talking about on the main page that was not about trains, or was it the fact he is anti gun's? Eithet way I home he makes it back to the dinner.

V8 Vega Was the post you made here at the dinner about the Baby thing about Ulrich? I know you did not type it, justed posted it.

 See you all later, Ken
