RAy:

The flex line is through a round hole in the furncae [not even a rubber grommet}, which, whne the furnace is running, can vibarate the felx line agianst the bare metal of the hole, causing it to act like a hack saw, cutting the flex hose as it vibrates leaking gas into house...should be a solid pipe instead...

That is why

Geeked

That is what I was wondering.  At each of my furnace/heaters the piping going into the unit is Black Pipe (iron).  Absolutely!  Wonder what idiot hooked it up that way...  homeowner special?

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a decaf for me right now.

I did get some progress made on the Girder bridge today.  I'll have photos by tomorrow for the WPF thread

I need to get the trash taken out to the curb, so I guess I will see you all tomorrow, "God willing and the Creek don't rise..."

Evening all

II'm looking for a Microscale 60-4257 decal set for the Chessie GM50 GP40-2 in N scale.  Looks like it's been discontinued for a long time.  If nobody has a line on them, does anyone make decals for that engine?  I've been thinking of modeling that engine ever since I picked up a couple of Morning Sun's books about the BR&P.  From what I understand, the real thing had two GM50 logos (one at either end), but Microscale only included one on their decal sheet.  If that's true, I may need two sets.  Any help or advice is appreciated.

My fun year continues.  I'm scheduled for a root canal on 11/3 (why not? -- that's election day!), and am set to have a wisdom tooth out on 11/12.

The train room floor is down, and most of the Target bookshelves I bought for storage have been built.  I'm thinking of building a modified Conrail Bald Eagle Branch so that I can run trains on two separate lines, and simulate the LV-EL interchange at Owego as well as the LV branch that ran to Cortland and -- most important -- the LV  streak of rust that paralleled the EL main between Waverly and Owego.  Since, in my world, Chessie bought the LV and merged the CNJ and Reading into their system, too, it's fine for me to run GM50 with EL engines.  Hopefully I can get building after the new year, but we'll see.

One more workday, followed by a trip to Elmira to close off Dad's AC unit for the winter, with another trip there for his 81st b-day Sunday.

See you later.

OK, Uncle Bob, Where do you you call home?  You're talking my old stompin' grounds there...  Owego, Wavery, Elmira?  I taught the first 11 years of my Career in Waverly, NY (General Music k-6), got my master's Degree from Elmira College, and used to go train watching in the Sayre Yards.  You will have to have an Island coming off your mainline and model the Sayre Yards in their heyday!!!

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have the #2 Special, over easy on the eggs, bacon, home fries, and a double order of the sour dough toast (leave the grape jelly).  That also calls for a 30 cup pot of Marrakesh Express dark roast organic, fair traded coffee to keep my FGLK mug filled for a while.

According to the weather guessers, it is mostly cloudy outside and 45°F outside right now....  The temp is correct, but this afternoon's mostly sunny has already arrived here in the Finger Lakes.  I probably will get half the lawn mowed this afternoon since it will be dry by then.

I have to make a quick trip downtown to Lake City Hobbies to see if they have a slightly smaller styrene I-beam in stock than the ones I have.  Can't do the bracing properly with the stock I have.....

Garry,  I checked out your WPF photos (both here and in the coffee shop across ths street.  I absolutely love your rock work!!!  Truely top of the line and beautifully done, sir!

I best get moving.  I just got a call from the paver and now have a date set (depending on the weather) to get the blacktop done.  They will be here early in the morning on Nov. 3rd.  He appologized as he has been running late with contracts due to the weather at times.  That actually works out good for me as I will have that much more $$$ in the bank to pay him for it by then as well.

Have a great day everyone!

Whistling   Morning Gang,

Well as you can see I'm back.  We got home about 9:30 last evening and had a great week in southern Montana.  The weather on Fri-Sat-Sun was 80 degrees, just wonderful. Then a little cooler on Mon. and around supper it started to rain. rained all night and all day Tues. Wed. was warmer and yesterday was around 76. Really a great week.

Sat. we went to the west side of Billings to a Corn Maze and Farmers Fun Festival. Had a lot of fun there for a couple of hours.  My Wife spent most of her free time down there making curtains for them. Six sets, so she was very busy when we were back at our Son's place.

Got to see some more Boeing aircraft shells on their special flat cars in the Laurel Yard, under BNSF power, quite a sight.  In the yard itself, it seems that Montana Rail Link does the local work. They seems to manage things like the autoramps etc. While BNSF are busy with through container trains and many, many coal drags from the Powder River Basin in Wyoming.

There is a ton of leaves on the ground again, so I had better get out and get at it. They don't seem to do it themselves. Like to have them mostly gone by the time the snow flies.

In WPF.

Garry,  Great work on the corner scene. Did you do it on your knees or do you have an over the top creeper like Tom White has ?  Love the rock strata.

Guy,  S2s are a favorite of mine too. I have three, one in each of the schemes WP. had  Two of them are Atlas.

Rick,  real fine work on those cars, they look great.

Terry,   Interesting concept on operations.  doubt if I will ever get that far, but I will try.

Ray,  Glad to hear the yard is coming together. It is the S--ts waiting for contractors. Waiting to see the finished bridge.

Galaxy,  I know there is a lot of work to be done, but don't strain yourself. If you can do most of the sorting then get a kid in your vicinity to carry the stuff to the dumpster as the last thing you want is to get crippled up again / worsen at this time.

All the rest of our Frail and Lame, I'm glad to hear of positive things and recuperation that is going on.  Prayers and Blessings are with you.

The leaves are calling SO::::::::::

Afternoon Diners,

I'm a little disappointed 25 minutes ago finding out the David Popp torn out his New Haven layout. Where will I find another inspiration; another than Dave Vollmer's Pennys/Conrail layout.

Probably inspiration should come within yourself, then looking for others. I'm still trying to finish my finishing touches on layout design and operations.

Evening diners...

Been a while.  Flo, a round of lemonaide...

Ken - good to see that you are making progress on your war against cigarettes.  Keep up the good work.

Brother E - sorry to hear about your accident; glad you are back on the road to recovery.

Galaxy - Great news on the house; hope to hear more about layout plans...

Been busy at work, three long weekend trips; two up north to watch Purdue football; last weekend we were in Cullowhee to watch WCU volleyball.  I am still exhausted.  Not much train time.

Getting our first rain in about 2 months.  Hopefully things will cool off; tired of temps in the 90s...

10 hours huh?

Well, GM, MEN!

We have filled half the 15yard rolloff already and we only did the shed and the enclosed porch. probably another 50 % of the reminaing stuff could go too. And we haven't even started on the inside of the the house..!!!

Someone suggested we get a youn'un to help. well young'uns around here want money, but don't wnat to work for it! We have actually had a teen ASK if he could HAVE the bags of bottles on the proch waitng for me to tke back! I said, no, ubt maybe he could mow my lawn for $10.? Nope he WANTED for FREE The returnabel bottles! Could I get him to come shovel snow? nOPE, noone here does, MAybe when we gett to the new house someone will ask to WORK at that stuff? We aren't rolling in dough, but we can use some help whne a major snow falls, or the lawn is a bit behind. There is also a franchise callled something like "college hunks hauling junk" who will help wiht such htings, but NOT HERE. The University here is onto ohter high tech means of making money, not maual labor, a rare commodity these days!

Sheesh.

when I was a teen and early young man, I took care of up t o 20 properties-lawn care, leaves, snow removal too! I continued even whne I got a "regualr job" to pay for extra things I wanted, NOT just expected everything to be handed to me. i did eventually quit when I got tired of snow! But I always worked two jobs if not three in my working life right up to 2003.

dunno, somewhere along the way I think my generation started this whole mess wiht lazy teens/kid who want everything handed to htem. Dunno.

well, we will go see the FIL today he didn't answer his phone yesterday.

then we see what we cna get into today. more purging.

Lion .... I'm glad you are on the road to recovery. How long before subway service is restred in ND? Are you thinking of projects to work on when you can return to the layout?

Angelob66660 ... Feel free to tell more about what you are doing with your N-scale trains.

Galaxy ... If I recall correctly, you have both N and HO. are you thinking of layout plans for each of them for your new basement? I think you said, the basemnt will need work before the layouts are started.

With cooler weather here, are any of you have train projects planned for the winter?

Everybody ... Feel free to post in the DIner and tell us what you are working on with your railroad.

dunno, somewhere along the way I think my generation started this whole mess wiht lazy teens/kid who want everything handed to htem. Dunno.

Nah...  That is normal for being a kid.  Been around forever.  I learned about helping people early on in life.  If I had a task assigned in the family, I didn't get supper until I had done it.  I also learned that there is no job beneath my dignity to do if it helped the family (that included shoveling out the gutters behind the cows in the milk barn).  That kind of "dirt" washes off.  The kind of "dirt" we have around today doesn't as easily.  Hopefully that moral and ethical tone stuck with me into adulthood and has added to my personal "self esteem".  I used to publicly berate one of the Guidance Councilors at the Middle School back when, that "Self Esteem" is something you earn, not recieve.  It comes with being given respect from those around you but also from the knowledge of who you are and your attitudes towards others (including those who aren't as fortunate) developed from the things you do!  Because of what I was taught, I have have a good self esteem.  The question for us today, is how do we teach others to value themselves.  As a society we have done a poor job of that..........

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a short stack of buttermilk pancakes with real NYS Maple Syrup and a pot of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast coffee to start my day.  Yes, the R&GV RR mug would do nicely, Ma'am.

Gray, cloudy day outside here in the Finger Lakes Region this morning.  Currently 48°F with an expectation of rain shortly.  I best get myself out and mow some more lawn before it gets bad out there.  Expect to get more done on the Girder bridge today.

Lion, you should be able to start preying soon enough...  For now just keep all of us in your prayers! Smile, Wink & Grin

Catch you all later!

Galaxy ... If I recall correctly, you have both N and HO. are you thinking of layout plans for each of them for your new basement? I think you said, the basemnt will need work before the layouts are started.

I have both HO and N, ANd MOH Wants European N, but may have to settle for European HO as hte N scales desired are out of reach price wise.

I think I will get two 4x8 2" exrtruded foam [or 4 2'x8' x2"}, cut them right straight down the middle  and put them over open frame in a square with a 4'x4" center pit. I think MOH will just have to do the same HO or N, but MOH has visions of 1400 acres of scale space on a 4x8 for Nscale. I think MOh is well,um eyes bigger than the train board! BUt, That all will PROBABLY have to happen AFTER we put down a concrete-style floor pannels and put up some 2x3 or 2x4 walls, whcih ever appear to be cheaper. teh 2'x2' flooring pannels have plastic pilliars on hte bottom so an moisture can "flow underneath" to the sump.:

http://www.homedepot.com/p/DRIcore-7-8-in-x-2-ft-x-2-ft-DRIcore-Subfloor-Panel-CDGNUS750024024/202268752

they will work nicely. and will giveus the freedon to feel safe and dry, even if leakage deos occur.

The walls will be 2x4 pressure treated base and either 2x3 or 2x4 studs for most walls walls. Insulation will be optional. the stairs are against the wall,so no room for a wall there, but rest will be there. The water and nat gas meters will be emclosed in cabinets to "match" other cabinets for storage. Teh laundry/furnace/sump area will be sectioned off for "utility room" in teh NW corner. The opposite corner {SW} is where i plan to put my HO layout. The front half of hte basement will be the "family room" wiht kichenette. {those cabinets covering the meters} That will be simple wall below hte I beam. teh stairs are inthe SE corner. Teh NE corner we are homping to put a half flush-up bath. If the town will allow us.

We won't be doing ti all at once, we figure with teh way teh paychecks come in, we will buy TWO floor panels, and 2 2x4s or 3 2x3s about $20, 4 times for one job, 2 times for the ohter, adn once for my monthly income }, and store until enough is ready for installation. At purchasing that 7 times  amonth, may happen sooner than later! May come down to just ONCEor twice  a month though knowing our luck.

http://www.homedepot.com/p/Unbranded-SaniAccess3-2-Piece-Elongated-Toilet-With-5-HP-Macerating-Pump-in-White-by-SaniFlo-082-005-007/204253707

so since the sewer pipe is at 2 foot above the travels arond hte two walls to the front nearing floor level as it goes, it should be easy enough to tap into!

SO that is our plan, probably by the tme we get it all done, I won't be able to navigate the stairs, we are already first planning to put hte stackabel washer/dryer inthe kitchen corner, so I dont have to trudge the stairs with heavy laundry every time.

THEN we can build layouts to our hearts desire!

that is the plan..now will rtrians win out and get built first???? who knows yet...Whistling

High Lite Of The Day is I reached out to a old Mopar Friend and it seems he may help me getting the 68 Road Runner going again. He should, he is the one that caused me to lose intrest 2 years ago. Allen (friend) and Jim (new friend) came over 2 years ago and dropped the car gas tank. Fellow members of the Dodge Charger site bought me a new gas tank for my birthday. Personal I did not want a new tank, it was only 10 years old. Anyway Allen and Jim came over, dropped the gas tank and that was the last I had seen of them for 2 years. The gas tank is one of the few things I had never removed so I was at a lost. Well no gas tank, no driving so I lost intrest. Whistling

Yard Wars and Back Front. I use to brag my back still works like I was 16 years old, not any more! I strain something last Thursday and I can feel it now and then. While I am not in pain, I move just right and my back says NO, don't do that! Smile, Wink & Grin There was this one tree I cut down that was about 6" around and 12 foot long that did it. I did cut off about 5 foot of it, throwing it on the pile put a lot of strain on my back that I felt.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, I could sure use a nice hot cup of decaf right now, please.  Oh and take away Ken's car keys.  He is no shape to drive home.  Thought he gave up drinking.  What, bad day at work.  I remember those from back in the day.  It usually was from dealing with some parents back then.

I managed to finish mowing the lawn today.  The last few minutes was just as it started to sprinkle out, but I got it finished.  Had to wear several layers of clothing to keep warm, but I was comfortable at least.  The Maple tree next door has now turned a golden yellow color and has lost a few leaves.  In about 2 weeks I will be looking out the window when all at once the entire tree will drop the remaining leaves.  Then some sun will be able to hit the solar panels on the roof from 11AM to 1PM during the day.  In full summer the sun is over the top of the tree and it doesn't shade the roof at all.

Got more done on the Bridge today.  Starting to look like a girder bridge....

I had just come upstairs from working on it and sat down at the computer when the phone rang.  It was my son.  I said where are you?  He says, "standing on your porch."  I told him to open the door and come in then.  He said he had rung the doorbell 4 times and I didn't answer.  I must have been in the little room at the top of the stairs.....  I have a deaf person's door bell that is very loud and also flashes a light.  Have them down cellar, in my bedroom, in the kitchen, and here by the computer....  Never heard nor saw it.  I Dunno!  Anyway it was my son and Granddaughter #2.  They wanted to know if I wanted to go out for Chinese with the family tonight.  Sounded good to me so I changed into a bit better outfit and headed over to Ling Ling with them.  Granddaughter #1 was in a cheerleading contest in Canandaigua this afternoon and they were about 10 minutes away from Geneva.  Her Team won first place, BTW.  I got to see them on the iPhone thingie during supper.  I took my son and Granddaughter #2 down cellar to show them the bridge I am making.  Granddaughter was absolutely fastinated.  At supper she asked me why I love trains so much?  Interesting question from a first grader I think.  So, I got to tell about all the different things you have to learn to make a model railroad....  She kept nodding her head and grining.

Hope all of you are having a great evening.  My prayers to all in need!

Good Morning,

Well it is officially Sunday here but as I have yet to go to bed for the night, I guess I should have said Good Evening.

Ken, nice progress on the yard. That is a major pile of brush. Sorry to hear business has been so slow.

Well not much new here. Tomorrow we will do some yard work as it might get up to 50F which is above normal for this time of year. Most of the leaves are off the trees now and so it is cleanup time. Surprisingly we still have some flowers that haven't frozen yet but this will likely be the last week for them.

Still haven't finished the bathroom. We are hungup on the backsplash, really whether or not we want one and if so what kind. We were going to do one made of painted glass but we didn't really like the look once we had a sample piece made. Also it is very expensive as in over $600 just for a piece 42" long and 14" high. I would like to get it finished so we can get all the stuff stored in tubs back into the bathroom cabinet. Besides it would be nice to have a sink in there we can use.

No train news. I have the Pacific on a short express reefer train sitting at the station but it has been there for over a week. Maybe tomorrow it will finally leave the station. No further progress on the N scale roads. I did get Main St. paved but that is about it.

See you soon,

CN Charlie

Good morning ...

Ken .... Rgearding the 68 road runner. .... Tanks but no tanks. ... Whistling

CN Charlie ... Sounds like the dreaded non-model-railroad stuff is getting in the way of layout progess. I think we all have that prblem.

Ray .... Your granddaughter question is a good one. Reminds me of "Kids say the darnest things" of the Art Linkletter show from long ago. ... I recall taking grandkids on train ride with Thomas the Tank Engine at KY Ry Mueseum. We passed a siding with a collection of old locomotives and railcars in bad shape and rusting badly. Oldest grandaughter said "Grandpa has to fix those trains." No she is 14 and has gone to a homecoming dance. Sigh. They don't stay little.

I hope to add some more scenery to the rural scene later today.

Happy Model Railroading

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have the Breakfast Buffet this morning.  Just bring me a pot of Marrakesh Express Dark Roast for my R&GV RR mug please.

Another dark and gloomy day here in the Finger Lakes.  Currently 52°F outside which is the high for the day.  Sun is supposed to come out this afternoon now and then.  That is a good thing as I may make more electric this October than I did last year with the solar panels.  Only need 3.1kWh per day to break even.  That should be easy to do.

I am trying to multi task today as I have several deadlines this week that I haven't even started yet.  Hopefully I shall finish up more on the first girder bridge section as well.

Leaves have really started to turn on the Maple Tree next door.  I hope they will decide to give up their hold on the tree and drop to the ground whereupon the neighbor will rake them all into a pile for the next City Collection in the area, and I will mulch the ones that fall on my yard to make fertilizer using the mower operated with the sun that shall fall on the roof.... Laugh

Hope you all have a great Sunday out there!

G'd Night Vinnie and Chloe, I'm going home to bed.

I am tired of waiting for someone to show up here tonight.

Sure hasn't been much action in the Diner this week-end,

I hope business picks up for you.

Good Morning Diners,

Flo, I'll have an extra large cup of coffee with lots of cream, please.

Quiet weekend.  MOH and I started cleaning a few things out of the garage yesterday.   Good to get some of that stuff out.

Work has been going well.  Added 2 new designers recently.  One speaks Polish, so she will be an asset in our showroom.  Most of our clients are contractors so I don't get to do a lot of pure design work, but every so often I get someone who does allow me to design within the limitations of the cabinetry.  Those are the ones I "live for."  This isn't custom cabinetry.  Everyone who comes in is motivated solely by price.  Fortunately, the cabinets aren't junk, but they are limited in their product offerings.  That's one way they keep the price point down. I think it's sad that people have gotten away from looking for value, and just want it as cheap as possible.  It's beyond normal.

However, I still love what I do.

I fear Ulrich won't be back.  He said, "I will not come back here."  He did not say he doesn't think, or doesn't believe he'll be back.  I believe he will feel that if he acquiesces to return, he'll be showing weakness.  Just my opinion.  Sad, because a lot of people here like and miss him and his posts.

Hello to all.

i hope everyone is OK and safe.

Less is more,...more or less!

 Morning Dinners!

Flo, big cup of Coffee please.

As Bad As Saturday Was, Sunday Was Great! While I only had 5 customers I had over $3600.00 in sales and made a extra $230.00 in spiffs! That was really need being they will be on the check I make my house payment with.

Smoking Front Yesterday I finaly broke the pack per day mark. I only had 18 Cigarettes yesterday. Still 18 to many but one step at a time.

Back and Yard Wars. Back is feeling a little better today so I hope to work a little before work. As big as the pile is in the front yard there is still a pile in the backyard that I need to get out front. Hope to cut down some more over growth.

 Latter, Ken

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a couple eggs over easy, whole wheat toast with grape jelly, and a pot of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Raosrt coffee to tide me over to lunch.  Thank you Ma'am.

Sun is shining here in the Finger Lakes today...  Very good for the solar panels to be up and running.  Should easily make more this month than they did a year ago.

I have a long list of small items I have to do today, so I won't be sitting here staring at the iMac much...

Hey Barry!  Good to see you.  How's everything up North of the Border way?

Ken, I will again say what I think you already know.  The only way to quit smoking is.... to QUIT SMOKING!  Have you talked to the doctors about getting the patch or some other way to help you go smoke free?  For your health and your wifes health (second hand smoke kills as many people as first hand smoking), quit the habit!  You will be glad you did.  You will have a much better life without the cigarettes.  I used to be a cigar and pipe smoker (yes I inhaled...) and once I finally got shamed into quiting, I just stopped smoking.  It was hard for a couple weeks, but I felt better and had more $$$ in my pocket and the trailer we livied in, my clothes, and the car stopped smelling like old cigars after a while.  Do yourself a favor and throw them out and don't buy any more.  We like you and don't want to see you going through what smoking causes!

OK, sermon over.  Have a great day out there!

hello all

Absoluetely unbelevable - Last Wednesday on the way home from w**k I was rear ended by this 74 year old asian guy. Hit me pretty hard. Thursday morning felt like an Elephant had played football on my back and neck. Went to see the Sawbones and he diagnosed me with Whiplash. Oh joy Sigh. Any way train news. Finally received a call back from the lady at zoning and got the distance the barn w/train room can be built from the well. Have a spot picked out. Waiting to get the Arch. comments back on my Sketches and then I will submit for a permit. Then starts the grunt work and scrapping for money.

Howmus - LOL You inhaled ???! & Amen

UP831 - Polish speaking ? What area are you in ?

Blownout Cyl. "You people" careful there. Some African American folks take great offense at that verbage.  Oh and Hello : )

Johnboy - No one here ? I am Here !! Big Smile

V8Vega - Artlinkletter - Wow havent heard that one in a while. There was some funny stuff there.

Lion - Settle down there bug guy. I will go fetch you a wildebeast for you. Need to let that injury heal. Do you like your Wildebeast well done, Meduim or RAW ? Dinner

Galaxy - Brabble ? That is a good word to know. How did the home inspection go ?

TTYL

YGW

Now back to the heating pad and pain meds.

YGW ... Sorry to hear about the accident. Whiplash can be nasty.

Barry .... I actually thought you were not only peaking in, but grabbing food too. The kitchen here in the DIner has been runing out of good food. Smile, Wink & Grin

Ken ... I guess the good sales days balance with the bad sales days. So, no point in getting stressed on bad days.

UP838 ... I miss Ulrich too. My opinion is he should be fair to his many good friends in the forum who have should they care about him in many ways. I hope to see him here again soon.
