Lion: Take it easy and heal quickly.

Ulrich: Glad to see you had second thoughts about writing off the diner. Also glad to hear about the train therapy.

Good morning.   I'll have Tim Hortons coffee and a TH donout to celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving. ... Canadians, have a great day.

Lion!...... I'm sorry to hear about the accident. Prayers for you. I hope you can keep us informed.

Ken .... Glad you called 911. If it were me, I would have said he should have been arrested. Public drunkenness is a violation of the law. Enough is enough.... I suggest you talk to your boss and respectlfully request Dave be fired. Tell them you sincerely care about your job and always do your best to do well. Tell them it is not fair to you to have this bum as a coworker. Suggest they hire somebody else. There are plenty of good people looking for a job, and they should hire one. ... My My 2 Cents

Been a bit busy lately, but hope tp get the the model railroad later today.

Whistling

Morning Crew,

We had a nice gathering at my sister-in -laws business place for the do-nut making event and Thanksgiving Dinner last evening. there was about 20 of us.  Great food for all but me. Great do-nuts for all but me. I guess I can say much the same as Lion, "Oh poor me"  But at least I'm not in the Horsepital.

Br. Elias, I am sorry to hear of your accident, but rumour has it, you were up the ladder signing "nearer my God to Thee"  Sure hope you heal well and quick. That Subway system will be in a state of caoss this morning and until you get  back there again.  Prayers and Blessings be with you Brother.

Nothing much to report on. I do have the day off, then work two and then we are off again to the Big Sky Country for a week. Trying to get ahead of the ugly weather we ran into last year at American Thansgiving.

Going down to my Son's shop here today as I need a front hub changed out on my truck and he said he would do it for me when the shop was closed for the day.

It was an absolutley lousey day here yesterday. Wind gusts up over the 90 Kms and raining most of the day.  It was ugly on the highway last night coming home, but it seems to have blowen itself out overnight and I guess CN Charlie and Blind Bruce will be enjoying it today.

I guess I had better go and get my day started by getting some nourishment down the ol' tube.  Think I will thin out some oatmeal this morning with brown sugar and cinnamon even though I don't really get to taste it. Makes one feel a little better knowing that memory of what it used to taste like and now it is in your belly.

Ulrich,  sure good to hear from you and look forward to seeing your accomplishments.

Ray H.,  I don't think I know anybody that keeps himself as busy as you do. In a way I envy you and in another way I just get tired listening to all the things you do and places you have to be. Stay healthy my Friend.

Enjoy Columbus Day, for all of you south of the imaginary line, even though the Indians and the Vikings really beat him to it.

Galaxy light a candle for Br. Elias please,  and Garry send the Chapel Car over to Billings (I think) so that the Lion can be more comfortable. BNSF should be able to accomodate you on that. Tack it on to the rear of a "Frac" Train. Thanks..

Johnboy out................for a while.

Good morning to all and a Happy Columbus Day.  I woke up in the middle of the night thinking "Dang it!  I forgot to take out the garbage!" but then I realized it's a holiday and pickup isn't until tomorrow.

Sad to hear about all the medical issues everyone is having.  The worst I can come up with is an attack by a vicious sticker-bush branch while on my mountain bike yesterday.  A one-inch scratch, with blood!  Oh, the horror.  I'd ridden another quarter mile before I even noticed my arm was bleeding.

Ulrich, do they have public-use computers in the public libraries in Germany?  Ours all do, and they are free to use.  It's another option while you're waiting for a replacement computer.  My daughter still has her old laptop we got her when she entered high school.  She's 24 now and in grad school, and she's using a MacBook, but that old Vista machine still comes out now and then when somebody's computer fails and they need a "loaner."

I made a great dinner of fettuccine a la carbonara last night - prosciutto and mushrooms in a garlic, egg and cream sauce, all over fresh pasta.  Beef Stroganoff tonight.

Good Morning,

Well Johnboy was right, we are getting a lot of wind here today and not just from the politicians.  There is a wind warning out right now and they aren't kidding.

Lion, sorry to hear about your hip but I didn't think lions could climb ladders. They can climb trees as I saw one up in the Serengeti. Anyway the wildebeest will be able to graze a little more worry free knowing you are out of action.

Not much planned for today. No family dinners to attend but since my FIL passed away a few years ago, most of that has stopped. There really isn't anyone left on my side of the family other than my sister but I only see her a couple of times a year. I get along fine with her but I can't stand her 3 sons, 2 of whom are still at home even though one of them is 40.

Hope everyone has a nice day,

CN Charlie

A few minutes extra computer time!

My son called in a vew minutes ago and he will be mailing the old laptop computer tomorrow. It´ll reach my place by Friday latest - hooray!

MisterBeasley
Ulrich, do they have public-use computers in the public libraries in Germany?

I guess they have, but our´s doesn´t. They are open two afternoons a week, so even if they had a computer accessible to the public, it would not be of much help.

Happy Thanksgiving to those north of the 49th and Columbus day to those south of it (?)!

 Morning Dinners

Flo, big cup of Coffee please.

Getting ready to work in the backyard, at 7:20 AM. Need the wife to wake up so I can take my Med's first. Hope to get what I cut down pulled to the front yard before work. Nice and cool to do it, only 60 degress.

Work Front, why am I not surprised? Whistling It appears Dave is not being fired. I just do not understand there thinking? Confused Well, I should say Nancy thinking, she is the one that wants to keep him. Well Fairview PD now knows he drives under the influennce in the morning coming to work. Maybe a DUI will get him to stop drinking at work!

 See you all later, Ken

PS Ulrich glad to see you at he dinner again!

Good morning ...

I'll have coffee and a cinnamon roll, please.

Ken .... I simply do not understand why Dave has not been fired. As for DUI's, I have very strong opinions because of the car accident I had over twenty years ago. A drunk hit me, and I had major injuries. So, please report him to police anytime you know he is DUI.

Is anyone working on their model railroads this week? ... I am working on scenery again.

Good Afternoon!

I got some extra `puter time today, as our neighbor is chatting with Petra Smile

Got my order of cork roadbed delivered this morning and guess what I have been doing since? All five yards of it have been duly laid out and glued to the "table"! That´s one of the advantages of building a small layout - that job can be accomplished in a couple of hours!

The glue I used did a good job of fastening it quickly, which is quite critical in those  sharp curves, but it´s got a terrible smell. It´s a solvent based glue, which I really don´t like for its fumes. Despite the rather cold weather, the windows need to stay wide open.

Tomorrow is track laying time!

Ken - your employer is doing Dave no favor in covering up him up. Dave´s addiction imposes a tremendous risk not only to himself, but to all people around him. He is ill, and should be treated as such.

Well, out again - maybe I have the chance to drop by a little later.

CU!

GM, Men!

well we had marriage therapy this AM.

Also talked to the Underwriters, they are awaiting a employment statement  form one work job to be faxed, that is a holdup, and they want a statement from SS for me. That is minor compared to the employemnt statment., actually. waiting to hear WHICH job is required.

don't get it, we gave them current pay stubs, doesn't that show he is working enough? and MY SSDI get Direct deposited, though only the net, so why do they still need the statment, it won't show for next year after all. for example.

With all the subprime fiasco, they are taking time nd double, triple quadruple checking things!!!

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I could use a refill for my dark roast coffee.  Please and Thank You Ma'am.

It was raining most all night last night here in the Finger Lakes Region.  Clouds have now cleared and the sun is abundantly shining on my roof!  Almost overnight the leaves have turned around here.  That is, except for the Maple tree next door that will stubornly not even change color untill mid November and then it will be Thanksgiving before, one day, all the leaves fall at once.  That is because, this time of year, it shades my roof and the solar panels..... Whistling

Ulrich, looks like progress is being made!  Bet it feels good to be back creating in the hobby.  I like!

Very good to see many old and new people here in the diner.  Makes it more interesting to have all of you here.  Keep it up!

I actually got more done on the Girders last night.  One of the 4 girders for the bridge is now basically done, and another should be finished today.  I'll try to get some more photos later.

Take care and have a great day!

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Lemonade please.

Work Was Pretty Boring Today. Well the phones where quite. Phone lines went dead around 1:30 or so. Company changed to Charter and I told Paul then that Charter Phone Sucks. My go out about 3 times a year.

Where Dave? Whistling Dave wife call in for him Monday and Told Ronda "Dave is sick, he is throwing up, he cannot come in. We have no idea where he caught the bug from"! If she had called me I would have said "More than likely the police station while he was sobering up!" I am sure he did not tell his wife being removed from the store.

Ulrich I agree Nancy is doing more harm. I told her that when I found out he was coming back to my store! It is where he drank before, so it would make temp him to drink again.

If he comes in after drinking, first thing I will do is call the police. I am done baby sitting him!

 Later, Ken

First, the important thing:  I'm sorry to hear about your injury, Brother Lion.  I hope you get well soon.  Will they have to replace your hip or otherwise operate on you, or will it heal on its own?

Good luck with your MRI,Galaxy.

I'm no Mets fan, but that play by Utley going out of his way to hit their 2B the other night incensed me.  He clearly left the running lane and launched himself into a player whose back was to him.  The rules state that's an automatic double play because of interference. Because the umps blew it, the Dodgers won the game.  If they get by the Mets, I hope the Cubs thump them.  Besides, I've always detested Earvin Johnson Jr, so any team he's associated with (including the Dodgers) is the enemy, as far as I'm concerned.

Finally, the world can't end till the Cubs win the World Series.  If and when that happens, look out!

Afternoon, Folks!

I wasted two hours of my life on an unexpected, but painful and costly appointment with my dentist today. Before that, I was able to get my trains up and running to comfort me over the nagging pain. I even found the remnants of a bottle of testor´s railroad Tie Brown, so I started painting the rails. Although the smell is not as awkward as yesterday´s glue experience, it drove Petra out of the room Laugh

Happines is:

I guess I have to think about how to integrate a cupholder into that layout Smile, Wink & Grin

Lion - our best wishes for a speedy recovery! From now on you are advised to stay away from strong magnets!

Have a good one!

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, can I get a refill of the Marrakesh Express Dark Roast to go?

I'm just about out the door to drive to Canandaigua to a Dermatologist Appt.  After that I shall feed the kitties at my sister's house and then spend the rest of the day doing odds and ends here.  Hopefully i will get some more progress done on the Girder Bridge too!  Finished up the second girder (need to build 4) last night.

I picked up the new humidifier portion of the CPAP yesterday and set it up.  Last night I put the head thigie and turned it on and got....  nothing....  I rolled out of bed to see what the tiny print was in the LCD on it.  Couldn't make it out so I took of the head gear and stood up, turned around and had a bad vertigo attack!  Ended up falling back into the night stand I have next to the dresser.  Came down on my hand (wrist) nailed my arm, elbow, shoulder, and then hit my head on the night stand followed by a heavy ceramic Othodox Cross falling off the wall (broke the part that holds it to the screw in the wall) and that bounced off the fan on the night stand and rapped me on the head!  I stayed up long enough to make sure I wasn't going to have any concusion symptoms....  Head is fine this morning, but my shoulder, elbow, and wrist are talking to me a bit.

Catch you all later!

Ulrich: It is really looking good!

Ray: In the immortal words of Frank Barone, "Holy cr*p!"

Mrs. ROR and I drove to Riverside, CA and back yesterday for her uncle's funeral. This was the last of her dad's brothers. (Her dad died a few years back.) It was a nice little ceremony at the National Cemetery. As the bugler played Taps, a lone blue heron flew over the lake. It was pretty amazing.

One of the advantanges to traveling alot for w*rk is free stuff, including free days in a rental car. We decided to put the miles on someone else's car and redeemed two of my free days. The rental car agent said he had been saving a Cadillac SRX for us. It made spending over ten hours in the car in one day very bearable.

Edit: It looks like I made top-of-page. Enjoy your meals--it's on me.

Hey, I did it!  I got my taxes done!

As all good procrastinators know, you can get an automatic 6-month extension on filing your taxes, just for the asking.  I was busy last winter dealing with the newness of retirement but more with the newness of Medicare, supplemental insurance, dental insurance and all the other rubbish, plus trying to deal with the diabetes medications, so I just filled out the little form and sent it in.  Now, 6 months later, it was time to stop delaying and do the work.  Not a big deal, really, as I use Turbo Tax and I'd already done most of it.  They owe me a bit of money, so there are no penalties or interest to pay, but at the same time when it shows up in my account I'll hardly notice it.

Galaxy ... Congrats to you and Mrs. Galaxy !

Lion .... Just to encourage you, my friend here broke his hip last year. Now he is doing very well. He says it was important to follow all of the doctor's instructions very carefully. .... Another friend just had knee replacement surgery, and now he is doing the p. t. stuff. ... Keep us informed. Prayers for your recovery.

Mr. B ... Taxes are still a pain even with software like Turbotax.

Good eveing diners.  We finally made it back to SE Ohio last night about 11 PM only to find that we had no internet service.  Sudenlink, our internet, phone and cable provider sent out a technician this afternoon who said the old cable modem mailed to us was junk and he would replace it with a much better model.  He also replaced our 8 yr old cable box with a new one.  Picture quality seems to have improved with the new cable box.  The new internet modem got me back on line.  It was a long trip from Flin Flon to here.  Glad we are home.

Lion, so sorry to hear about your fall and broken hip.  Hope your healing process proceeds smoothly and you can get back to chashing wildebeast soon.

Galaxy, Good luck on finishing up your house closing.

Hi Gang,

Hot Chocolate and cinnamon raisen cookies for me, Please Chloe.  If only !!!

Congratulations to Mr.&Mrs. Galaxy, The New Home Owners of the Catskills.  I had a feeling that , that house was the one for you.   Hope all goes well with everything that you now need to do to complete the transaction.

Prayers and blessings to Ray, Ulrich and Br. Elias.  I hope you all recover soon and get back to regular action.

James,  Glad to hear that you had a safe trip home. It always feels good to get back into your own surroundings.

I'm just about to have a shower and hit the hay.  We hope to make a decent start tomorrow and get out of town by about 8:30am for our drive to southern Montana.

Tried to order a couple of items from Hobbylinc tonight, but for some reason it would except my Paypal.  Oh well it wasn't urgent and I'll try somewhere else when I get home.

Talk to ya all when I get a chance.

Stay healthy and keep smiling,  ya hear.....

Johnboy out............... for a bit.
