Mr. B, DON'T BET it slipped here mind...she may yet have you sleeping in the doghouse....!!!

No, she forgot our anniversary completely until I reminded her.  She's had an unpleasant week, once again dealing with her parents and her deadbeat brother, and she had a routine colonoscopy on Friday.  She still claims to be suffering side effects from the anesthetic, but she's a hypochondriac's hypochondriac.  And, she took off early to go see a musical with a group of church ladies.  She was ticked at me earlier in the week over the usual issues, too, but that seems to have passed.  I made her nice dinners the last 2 nights, which she enjoyed.  It's about the best I can do, since nothing much else goes by without criticism.

Good Morning, Folks!

Just a short visit, as I have to get ready for my PT exercises in a few moments.

Galaxy, Mr.B - congratulations on your anniversaries! Ours will be the 31st in a few days.

Today´s steam trip is over one of the most spectacular inclines we have in this country, the so called "Schiefe Ebene" (The Incline). Its on the line connecting Munich with Berlin and has seen dramatic action in the steam days, which lasted until 1974. Trains required two class 01 Pacifics up front and a class 86 pusher engine in the back. Grade is 1 in 40!

Enjoy!

GM, Men!

Well, I had Eggplant parm for anniversary dinner last night. I try to get something I can't get at home, or won't cook. MOH doesn't like eggplant, SO....I got that. MOH had a veal dish, and I won't buy veal as it is so expensive in the grocery store. I was surprised MOH didn't go for any scollops, clams or muscles...SHell fish and I don't get along, so we don't have that in hte house either.

15 Years together! Lets hope we get 15 more!?!?

MR. B. Usually women havea  knack for remembering such things. MOH writes in on the calendar every year when we change the calendar...so I couldn't forget IF i tried! If I did, I'd be in the dog house. Plus, When MOH plans out vacation time in January {requested by employer that early}, we look up/plan for it this time of year...

Ah well, hope you two can stand each ohter another few years, MR>,B!

Today's word:

tribology

PRONUNCIATION:
(try-BOL-uh-jee, tri-) http://wordsmith.org/words/tribology.mp3

MEANING:
noun: The study of interacting surfaces in relative motion and associated issues, such as friction, lubrication, and wear.

ETYMOLOGY:
From Greek tribos (rubbing), from tribein (to rub). Earliest documented use: 1966.

NOTES:
Usually words are coined on the streets of language, but here is one instance where a word may be considered to have been synthesized in a lab, if there could be such a thing as a word lab. In 1965, a group of lubrication engineers decided they needed a name for what they did and contacted the editors of the Oxford English Dictionary for help. Out of this came the word tribology, suggested by one C.G. Hardie of Magdalen College.
So even though it looks like the perfect word for it, tribology is not the study of tribes. A related term is triboelectricity: electricity generated by friction.

USAGE:

“As in the later case of the frayed shoelace, what I wanted here was tribology: detailed knowledge of the interaction between the surfaces inflicting the wear and the surfaces receiving it.”
Nicholson Baker; Mezzanine; Weidenfeld and Nicholson; 1988.

Today's THoughts:

Wise sayings often fall on barren ground; but a kind word is never thrown away. -Arthur Helps, writer (10 Jul 1813-1875)

No one saves us but ourselves. No one can and no one may. We ourselves must walk the path.

Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth.

Good Morning Diners,

Flo, I'll have my usual ginormous cup of coffee with copious amounts of cream, please.  Now, away with thee wench, and look sharp about it.

Just see how long I'd last if I actually did try to say something like that.

Big SmileBig SmileBig Smile

All of this talk about anniversaries is interesting because ours is this week.  As forgetful as I am about some things, I've never forgotten that!  So far the plan is to take off Friday and go to Milwaukee to the zoo or something and go downtown Chicago on Sunday, or do Chicago on Friday and Milwaukee Italian fest on Sunday.  Of the two, the latter sounds like the more feasible plan.  We'll see how it finally turns out.

this will be our 37th.  Thirty seven long grueling years that went by in a blur!

Ulrich:  does a 1:40 grade mean one meter elevation per every forty meters distance? If so, that's steep!

We're supposed to have severe thunderstorms this morning so I'd better get going.  Don't want to get drenched.

I hope everyone is OK and safe.

Less is more,...more or less!

Gooooood Morning!!!

Coffee and the breakfast pile please and thank you.

Three days in a row you get to see me! Please, no applause. Just waiting to get a bit closer to Bank opening time to go to the Church for my Monday bookwork session and of course to grab a look at the videos Ulrich has been postingYes

Ken- Just thinking about digging holes this time of year makes me tired! The less you have to dig the better.

They took the rain and storms out for today and pretty much all week last night. They say a chicken wakes up to a new world every day, well, we wake up to a new and completely different forcast of the weather every day as well. Of course they always keep a small percentage and the phrase “chance of pop up thunderstorms” in every day just to be somewhat close to right, so outside stuff can be accomplished. Not that there is a lot, but with so much rain, my gosh things grow very quickly. Especially the things you don’t want to grow. But first, I must take care of the Church stuff this morning and well, however long that takes. Got some things to do for the restaurant, the village AAAAAAnd of course around here.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Ulrich: does a 1:40 grade mean one meter elevation per every forty meters distance? If so, that's steep!

That´s what it means!

Steam trains never exceeded 30mph up that incline - today´s trains do 80 - 100mph.

Todd - good to see you more often - keep it up!

Whistling

Hi Gang,

Hope everyone had a great week end and are getting back to normal if you were one that was ailing.

Ulrich,  hang in there and with practise you will gain back what was lost. You are in our prayers.

Off Topic

Have any of the Diners here had any experience with the "MD Hearing aids"  that they have been advertising lately.  They sound pretty good and have good recommendations, at least what is being conveyed to you. The price is right and I tried some more expensive ones over a year ago but found I couldn't control any of the back ground noise and these are supposed to do that.   Any comments you have about these units would be graciously excepted before I take the plunge.

Will check back in a while and see what you have to offer.

Till then

Good evening all,

Flo, a cold one and a sandwhich please.

Well, I had to make the drive way up to the "Big City" today for appointments so I decided to wander around one of my favorite bridges to kill some time, the "Fort Wayne Bridge" or "Pennsylvania Railroad Bridge".  It was built around 1901 and has gone through some changes over the years, but still looks much the same as the original. Its currently a double track upper deck bridge that is used by Norfolk Southern, Amtrak, and AVR (Allegheny Valley Railroad) that spans the Allegheny River in Pittsburgh PA. I just love the look of it and have often said that if I build another layout I will somehow encorporate a bridge like it on the layout.

Well, hope all are well. I will sit and listen while I sip and munch.

Happy Modeling all!

Don

Good evening diners,  Today was the day to start our trip to Denare Beach, Sask.  Drove through very hard rain from Columbus, Ohio to west of Dayton, Ohio including very black, ominus clouds.  While driving out of the rain, the A/C froze up.  Ken, I sympathize with your car air conditioner problems.  When you are used to car air conditioning and it stops working, its pretty uncomfortable.  Managed to finally thaw out the ice berg in the evaporator coil and restore cooling which was a very good thing as it was 92 degrees when we arrived in Peoria, IL for the night's stay.

In a senior moment, walked out of the house this morning and left my Thermapedic side sleeper pillow.  Hope to find one tomorrow as i kind of need the thing to prevent neck pain with my degenerated top five vertibrae.

Lion, really have enjoyed your recent pictures.

Uhlrich, the German railroad clips have been very interesting.  Nice to see such a variety of restored steam still running in your country.

 Health Front Up Date.

1 A1C went up to 7.9, not a shock. I have been eating a lot of bread of late. This caused a stupid fight with my wife! Bang Head Her Docotor has told her that anything under 8.0 is normal, and if I get it lower I will not be able to eat anything I want! Or should I say what she buys and want's me to eat! Whistling I told her the VA want's the A1C below 7.0 and I was at 7.1 last time and I want to lower it agin. Some how this turned in to a minor fight? Laugh

2 Chest X-Ray Well I have a small nodal in the right lung and that is common for people that grew up in the Midwest for some reason? Something about something we breath is attacked by our Immune System and causes a Calcium Case to form around it and 99% of the time it is nothing! Yes From the X-Ray woman that called me did not know I was a smoker! The VA is going to test me for TB to be safe.

Work Front Remember the $3800.00 deal I had from Saturday? The customers added another $1000.00 so it is now a $5000.00 deal with taxes! Big Smile

V8Vega

I sold my Prelude a few days ago and I could have carried my new TV home in that easily so now I have two two seat very small sports cars. I unbolted the passenger seat from my 88 CRX and the TV just barely fit in the car. I'm glad to get it and get it home.

v8_ I have always been a truck and van person, raised with vans that coud about {and did} haul pretty much anything.

I now have a minivan- a smaller one by a few feet off the Grand Caravan, but a  49" TV would fit in my minivan. I Drive one or the other {van or truck} all the time just on purpose to carry things nad stuff...stuff that I propbably don't want or need! LOL.

Good Morning Diners,

Flo, may I have an extra large cup of coffee with extra large amounts of cream, please.  Thank you.

That was the Emily Post edition of a coffee request.

Ken:  no doubt that will be one of the best $64 you ever spent when the day is done.  Set that motorized auger on one of those engine mount cranes (I forget what they're actually called) and you wouldn't have to even manhandle the auger.

Big SmileBig Smile

Don:  That would be one ambitious bridge project.  Lots of cutting and trimming.  Probably take a couple of years to do it.

Dennis:  I'm not overly big on TV either, but up here in the frozen North, they're nice late in the football season.  We still have an analog TV with the converter box.

Lion:  that brake handle must have been left by the jolly green giant.  Oh, thats right, Lions only get their vegetables from wildebeest.

Have to go.

Hi

Near my town there is Montreal, great city. The subway system, for those interested, was developped by Bombardier and it runs on rubber tires.

Its maximum speed is 72km/h.

It has advantages such as faster acceleration, smoother ride, shorter breaking distances, lower maintenance cost, and it can climb steeper slopes.

:)

Have a good day!

Isn't it AMAZING? FOr most of us, the PC has beceoe a lifeline, a communicator, a refernce library, a tool, a fun toy, a thing we cannot do without!

Think back to the early 70s!

whatever did we do with our bad selfs then??
