Good late morning Diners,

mr. B:  it's been a lot of years for me ,but I still have my electronic guitar tuner.  The one I have is by Ovation.  It used a 9V battery and could tune electric (plug in), acoustic, and electric bass.  The newer ones may have digital readout, but mine is meter Readout.

My suggestion is go to Guitar Center, or Sam Ash (the east coast equivilant), or the music store of your choice and find out what options are available nowadays.  Mine cost in the neighborhood of $40, I'm sure they've appreciated since.  I would expect to pay 70-75 now.

theyre a great tool to have and you can take that stage with the assurance that you'll be in tune!  And when you're on that stage, knock 'em dead!

Less is more,...more or less!

Fortunately, electronics are one thing where prices often do not go up over time. A quick check of Amazon found a number of guitar tuners for under $20, including this well-rated one from Fender.

ARin is on hte way...described as "steady"...BUT it harbors T-boomers and FLASH FLOODING and perhaps some nastiness {the yellow, orange and Red "stuff" {markings} you see on the weather maps-at least here} when it gets here in about an hour.

Naturally, if I loose power, you may not hear from me for days. I WAS thinking"well I have wifi and 6 hour battery on the laptop, BUT: it WON'T operate wihtout the WIFI!!! {which will have no power!}

II DO hope it ISN"t nasty as MOH is working in the County seat village, which has 1600 buildings in it, 1300 of which flooded in 2011!! SO I HOPE it is a "steady {light} rain!"

later {or maybe not?}

From YGW,   Johnboy - What does your title "Last Mountain & Eastern hogger" refer to ?

The Last Mountain & Eastern is the name of my Pike and has been for the last 60 years.   (several different layouts )..   and "HOGGER" is a slang name for a locomotive  engineer.  So  seeing that I am the Chief Engineer in many different catagories here, I only thought it appropriate that I be the Last Mountain and Eastern Hogger ... Inch  ... Good to see you. Been a while since I've seen you post. Good of you to encourage Ulrich. ....

Ulrich .... My good friend from Illinois has a wife who had a stroke when she was about 30. So, half her life it has been a bit of a handicap, but she never lets it keep her from doing stuff.... Of course everybody in the Diner cares about you.

For the layout, I'm fixing up a beat up old brick engine house. I have just tried the idea of using lightweight spackling compound for mortor as descibed in August MR. Works well. Easy to remove excess material. I used an acyrlic wash to weather it. It is nearly ready to use now.

Afternoon diners!

Chloe, a cup of hot chocolate would be good on a chilly July day here in the Finger Lakes.  (Got all the way up to 65°F today...)

Much like Galaxy to the south east of where I am most of today has been rainy and drissely here.  It has basically stopped outside now but we did get a bit over 1/2" today.  Down where Galaxy is there looks to be some Nasty Boomers and stuff going by....

I have been going through piles and piles of stuff here most of the day since I can't do much outside.  I have close to two years of some magazines sitting stacked randomly on the dining room table.  They have been there since last February when the flood appeared in the living room.  Did also do some cleaning down cellar today as well while the washer and dryer have been going.  I drove over to the Mennonite Farm place before lunch and bought more eggs (will need for the potato salad I'm making for a picnic saturday), some vegetables, and a quart of local Pure NYS Maple Syrup.  That was produced about a half mile from my house.  The price was also right.  $14 for a quart of the very best!  The eggs are brown eggs from a flock owned by the family that owns the store and are not caged, aka "Free Range".  That was the way we kept our birds on the farm when I was growing up, and they taste better!

This evening I have to go to a Boy Scout Troop meeting.  Pre-Summer Camp meeting and there may be some controversy about a Scout who was badly injured in a car/bicycle accident about 3 weeks ago who plans to go to camp.  I have checked with all the Powers that Be, and he has all the documents and the problems that could come up all taken care of so there is no reason at all he should not go.  His Scoutmaster, I'm afraid, may think differently....  Ah, the role of the Commissioner....

Tomorrow late afternoon the Amish Furniture should be delivered, so I hope to have some photos to share.  The couch and chair will be arriving the week of the 20th.

Hope you all have a great day out there.  Stay dry unless you want to get wet!

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer Please

Spent most of the day at the VA Hosptial, that was fun.

1 Foot Front, the new PA in the leg ulicer clinic seems to know his stuff! Yes  Best job of cleaning up the callauis I have seen yet! Wound it self is 2 mm X 2 mm and .25 mm deep. He thinks it will heal well. I have a follow up in 3 weeks.

2 Blood test, I had a lot of blood drawen and had to pee in a cup. No big deal excpet some old guy (like I am young) was in the bathroom before me (single seater) and was there for 10 minutes. At one point he said through the door "It won't come out, if you want come on in!" Not sure what he was trying to get out and did not want to know! Smile, Wink & Grin Told him "No Thanks" and took my cup down the hall to the other side of the wing and found a restroom there. Was not happy about wanking down the hall with my filled cup to the blood lab! Whistling

3 Chest X-Ray, that is what I am most worried about. 15 years ago I had a black spot on my left lung and it had not been checked again till today. They took a second X-Ray of my left lung, that is the one that had the black spot 15 years ago.

See you all latter, I hope.

So I are still here!

Evening Folks!

Flo a Diet soda and a sandwhich if you please.

Thanks for the "welcome back" and well wishes fellas...much appreciated.

Well I did some railfanning this afternoon after a long absence. Caught a "Big Blue" slogging by the house hauling a load of boxcars South bound. Shortly after that I barely caught a North bound Union Pacific Geep paying back some horse power hours chugging a coal drag a short distance up the road (I think I got more trees then locomotive in my hurry to snap the picture...LOL). It felt good railfanning (a.k.a running some trains on the layout again).

Oh, my sandwhich is here. Carry on gentlemen I will sit and listen.

Good evening.  We had another rainy day in SE Ohio.  Maybe it will dry up a little for the boat races Saturday.  Every year they stage the River Roar on the weekend after the 4th of July to race power boats on the Ohio River.  Last year that had to cancel Saturday's races because of high wind and rough water conditions.

Wouldn't you know it, just before we leave for Canada, the dish washer decided to start leaking.  Pulled it out to see what was going on and it appears to be a minor leak at the door gasket.  At least none of the hoses or water pump are leaking.  Will deal with it this fall when we return.

I have my annual wellness exam in the morning.   Hopefully all is well as I have had no new problems this past year other than getting older.

Johnboy and CN Charlie, i have been fishing on Amisk Lake since 1949.  Figure I have now spent over three years at Denare Beach . Sask.  My route from home is I-70 to Indianapolis then angle up to I-80 to Iowa then to I-90 in SD to US 218 to rhe boarder at Dunseith, ND then Manitoba 10 to Flin Flon then 14 miles to Denare Beach.  The village has a unique name being the first two letters of the Department of Natural Resources, thus Denare.  It's my idea of paradise.  I have even visited in Febuary and still enjoyed the lake.  Johnboy, may try to work something out in Octobere on the way home as I think I will be coming through Saskatoon and a stop in the Regina area would be about right for one day's drive.  Looking forward to seeing my friend in Denare Beach.  We kind of grew up together and his family is about as close as my own.

Back to the basement and spiking more rail.  Should have the six feet done by the time I leave.  I am taking four car kits to work on while at Denare Beach.  Plan on staying to the first of October.

Lion, I like the murky vapor lights.

Don ... Nice railfanning there.

Ken ... Sounds like very good news for your foot. Hope the other stuff is okay.

Ray ... A whole quart of maple syrup for $14.00 is a great price.

We get good deals on very fresh eggs. They are free from friends who has chickens.

I completed fixing up the old engine house. Many more projects await.

I'm Baaaaaaaaacccccccck! Ahem.  Janie, I could sure use a hot cup of decaf at the moment.  Thank you Ma'am.

Scout troop meeting went well.  They were doing the last bit of planning for Summner Camp next week.  In other words the Law got laid down to them.  The Scout Law that is.  They also should know (Parents were there) what they should bring and what they should leave home (cell phones, etc.).  That is as much for the hellicopter parents as the Scouts.  "Mommy, the scoutmaster was mean to me and I had to do the jobs I was assigned to and I'm homesick!!!"  "I'll be right there sweetie....."

As long as I am talking about camp, here is something all of you should be aware of:

Heartland Division CB&Q
Ray ... A whole quart of maple syrup for $14.00 is a great price.

Yep, most places are getting about $22 for that at the moment.  One of the relatives of the young lady who runs the market taps the trees on the main farm, takes it over to a local dairy farm that also produces Maple Syrup, and runs it for him.  It doesn't last long at the farm market.........  A quart will last me a year actually.

Ken, I hope the xray comes back with good news as well!  Glad your foot is healing well.

Have a great night all.  Prayers for those in need!

Lunchtime!

Flo, a Barry-sized burger, fries, onions, lettuce and an RBF, please!

PT was OK today, but now I am beat again. I will go for a nap after lunch.

Standard gauge it will be for today´s steam trip. We move to the industrial heart of Germany, the Ruhr Valley and ride a train pulled by the famous Prussian class P8 through some interesting scenery.

Enjoy!

Good Morning Diners,

Flo, I'll have my usual extra large cup of coffee with lots of cream, please.

Ulrich and Bear: Thank you both for posting the videos of railroading in your home countries.  They are very informative.  You've also made a hard act to follow.  I suppose if someone from this side of the ponds hosts we will have another month of vids, but before long we'll have run out of material.

Ulrich:  hope all goes well with PT.  Keep hanging in there.

Ray:  hope your furniture delivery goes smoothly and that there are no dings or scratches in the furniture.  Let us know how everything turns out.

I hope everyone is OK and safe.

Great Day

Good news !

We are getting two grandsons today ! One of our 2 adult sons (We have 5 adult children)  and his wife are adopting two boys. They have tried for a very long time to have children on their own, but could not. So, they have gone the adoption route with a state agency in NC which places kids in homes. It has been a very long process, and they already know these boys quite well. Boys are very excited to get a real home.

Yay !

Now we have 8 grand children .... 4 boys & 4 girls.

Coffee and doughnuts are on me !

Afternoon fellas!

Flo a water with lemon and a bowl of whatever soup is on today please.

Gary congrats on the new family editions!

I hope all are feeling well today and in good spirits. It IS Friday after all and Fridays are supposed to be good.

Raining here in SW PA and kinda cool...surprise surprise. It sure hasn't been the greatest summer weather wise around here and the dampness plays havoc with the aches and pains. I will head down to the layout later to run some trains and do a little house keeping. If the rain lets up I may even wander down to the CSX or NS tracks to see if I can catch coal drag (empty and/or full). I figure if I need to exercise I may as well railfan at the same time.

Soups here. Carry on Gents.

Happy Modeling!

Don.

Afternoon Folks!

Chloe, a nice tall glass of ice cold Lemonade would be great right now.

Didn't manage to get in before lunch today...  Trying to get some cleaning done today.  Did drive over to the Vet this morning to pick up more food for the kitties and then went downtown to mail off a few bills as long as I had to go out.  At the moment a pot of potatos is on the stove for the Potato Salad I will be taking to the NMRA Picnic tomorrow.  This is a limited one as it is to say thanks to all those who opened their layouts and/or worked on the committee to put it all together.  This way those folks who were working will get a chance to visit the layout that were open for the convention.  We are doing another one in two weeks to get to the rest of the layouts that were open for the convention.

Garry, what great news for your family!  I know those are two very lucky little boys.

Early tonight the Amish Furniture should be arriving.  Also got word that the final "Recoverable Depreciation" check should be on its way to me for the living room project.  That will take a bit of the sting out of the checks I have to write for furniture.....

Next major project will be some outside stuff.  I will get an estimate on things and go from there after I see how the finances are.  Hopefully before Wintertime I can get the driveway(s) done and a ditch to carry the water away from the living room area.

Have a great day!
