Good morning. It's 74° with 99% humidity. The high will be 82°, cloudy with a high chance of showers and thunderstorms.

This morning I installed a Digitrax DH126 decoder in the GP30. Now I just have to close it up.

No other plans for today.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a nice bowl of Pumpkinseed Flax Organic Granola with fresh blueberries this morning.  Oh, I pot of Seneca Lake Dark Roast coffee will be in order as well.

Currently 58°F outside the door here in the Finger Lakes Region.  Tonight the low may get down to 36°F....  Hopefully no frost as I still have lots of vegetables growing out back in the raised beds.  May light up the wood stove for the first time tonight as soon as I get home from the Museum Meeting in Rochester.

Jeffrey,  Funny story about your nephew!  Think after all these years he would know better than to challenge you.  Over the years teaching Middle School I had several 8th. graders who thought they would take a swing at me.  Most of them, I just stared at them and said, "Make the first swing count, son.  Cause you ain't gonna get two!"  They backed down...  Of course I had a "reputation".  Way back, a punk kid who weighed in at almost 300lbs. had gotten in a fight in the cafeteria.  When I stepped in between them the other kid backed right down.  The first kid kept right on coming.  I got to use a move I learned in PE class at Eastman Shool.  The 300 pounder found himself on his butt on the floor with the wind knocked out of him.  You should have seen the look on his face!  I then reached out my hand a helped him to his feet.  Then the 3 of us went to see the vice-principle.  I had no further problems at the Middle School being challenged by students after that...... All I needed to use was "the look".  BTW the 300 pounder is now doing 15 to 20 years behind bars for some similar stuff in town.

As always I have a long list of items to get done today. I best get moving if I will get them done.  Catch you all later!

Well the van got it's first drive into town since being fixed. I went in, stopped at the bank to check my bank balance, went to Circle K and filled the tank then went and got a small pizza for lunch.

well

I finally got back on, computer was stalling on getting online, tHe Cable company had to send something to the modem to correct it. Now it seems fine, but for who knows how long? last week the same problem happened, but I had the antivirus folks "clean" the puter. It has been off and on and the computer phone wasn't working so hot either. The retail outlets around here last week had MAJOR problems with their computer systems too. Only one cable company here...Makes ya wonder?

Jeffrey: sounds nice the van runs for you now. Like i siad he did it cause that way you "don't need" the 'treasured truck". If it actgs up come codler wehter, he may just have to do it again, won't he.

Drains: whoever siad to use liquid, we do on occasion, but it is not the best either according to the plumbers, it can only flush down so far. I have some enzime stuff for the drain/sewers that cost $50 for a years supply. Supposed to eat the gunk in the pipes, not cause heat and not eat plastic pipes. Put 1 TBS in warm cup of water and pour down drain when not in use..once for the every first 5 nights, then just once a month. I may make it once a week just cause.

Went into to town for three trips today: 1} grocery store 2} the CU 3} the insurance guy's. Home now gotta figure dinner out of what I bought.

well thatt is about it. Not much more to tell.

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer Please.

Long Day At Work. Late custmer caused Paul and I to get out late. Plus I had to go to the bank for the company, buy gas and make a Beer on the way home. Did not get home till after 9:15. Sparkie the Rocket Dog need a quick pop walk. I had a few other things I need to do so I could go to the VA Hosptial Friday so I did not workout.

Jeffery Long time ago I told you not to give up on your 318. They are tuff little motors and I think you said it only had 61,000 miles or so? So it was his mother that but him on his butt? On the Bachmann GP 30, what road name is it? Whistling Kind of like to have another one.

Train Front Why do the PK2000 SD 7and 9's like to whine so much? I think it was 2 weeks ago I used ATF Dextrion oil to lube them, seemed quiter for awhile. Tonight I placed the B&O's on the RIP track till I lube them again? My Rio Grande PK2000 are on the RIP track for the same reason?

Pulled out the Monon F's and after sitting a year they seem to be pulling fine. Big Smile

Good Morning!

I am having issues with my new meds. Apparently, they don´t do what they are supposed to do. My BP has gone up and my heart rate is way too fast. I am going to monitor that until Monday, if it does not improve, I am going to turn myself in into the hospital.

This seems to be not my day! I just wnated to see my little steamer run, but it stalled after a few moments. One of the screws holding the side rod to the last driver had come off, nearly bending the side rod. I straightened it, put back the screw and now the loco is running smotther than before Confused

Ken - I understand the dimensions you posted are the size of the garage. As you want to park your Roadrunner in it, how much of that garage will be available for your layout?

Well, I am up to nothing today.

CUL & have a happy one!

GOOD FRIDAY MORNING!

Ulrich: i have a candle lit for you and put on the list again.

Likewise, Jeffrey is onthe list, though it sounds like he is doing fine with he has to work with.

There is a GENERAL CANDLE for those others who may be in need. Healing thoughts/energies/prayers {whichever one you go by} go a LONG way towards good results.

I haven't decided what trouble to get into today.

Strange, A mother recently got into trouble for leaving her 6 year old son out to play "by himself" {aka "without supervision"}. My goodness, my mother nad father BOTH sould be serving time in Leavenworth fi the suthorities only knew how many times my parents said "go out and PLAY", of course usually followed by "stay in your own yard". Of course my parents woudl have been jailed and us out in foster care also because we NEVER used seatbelts, child car chairs or the like. We DID uses seatbetls once the law came into being, though. I used to race min cars while a child and teen, so I knew the value of a 6 point harness. Of course we also knew to STAY IN OUR CARS until help came, unlike a recent professional drive who did not. My goodness!

well, I will go now and see what trouble I can find.

JeremY What is strato matic hockey ? Is that one of those old vibrating board games that you set the players up and they vibrate ll over the place ?

Jeff - Wht did the kid do when he got up ? I take it teh fight was out of him ? Glad to see you working on the engines again.

Cuda - Have you considered instlling one of the pulley systems that yoo can raise the train lauout up and down and then pull the mopar in under it ? That way you cn have the best of both worlds?

Galaxy - Glad you are doing better. Miss your word and qoutes.

Garry - Hello how is it going ?

I am excited tomorrow I am heading down to Richmond to a meet and picking up some M&W stuff tht I bought from an estte sale. I will also get to meet and greet some club members that will be nice. On teh w*k front it is getting crazy busy. The site is 8+ acres big with 49 homes to be built and right now every sqaure foot is covered with earth moving equipment. There is a big push to bet the winter weather and get 4 foundations in and go vertical with two of them. Lot of stress, flared tempers etc....Be glad when the first fdn goes in. Then some of the pressure will be off.

Prayers to Ulrich, Jeff and all others in need.

Friday!  The first order of business is to turn the alarm OFF, not just silence it, since it won't be needed for a couple of days.  Nice days, nice nights here in New England.  Fall is my favorite time of year, weather-wise, although I prefer winter for the skiing.

Ulrich, do you go to the hospital for stuff like that?  I would just make an appointment and go to the doctor's office.  Hospitals are full of sick people, and it wouldn't be the first time I'd gone to the hospital and come home with an ailment I didn't go in with.  Of course, we have different health care systems.  You are doing the right thing, though, watching out for yourself on the side effects of the medications.  There are a lot of different blood pressure options.  The first two the doctor put me on were pretty bad, but the third has been working fine for years.

Mornin',

Zoe, I'll have ashort stack of blueberry pancakes, real NYS Maple syrup, a couple sausage links, and lots of hot Seneca Lake Blend, Organic, fair traded, coffee in my R&GV RR mug please.

We done got a frost here in the Finger Lakes last night!  Got up around 9AM this morning and it was still on the roof tops where the sun can't hit before noontime.  Don't know yet how much damage it did, but this is way too early for this area.  May spell the end of the sweet corn season several weeks early.  Currently 51°F outside with a high of 65 later under nice sunny skies.  I thought about lighting the wood stove last night but I didn't get home until close to 10:30 from the Museum meeting last night.  By the time Blackie got his medicine it was time to hit the hay.

Have an event for cub scout aged kids today at the Boys and Girls Club here.  I get to give the little talk about how much fun it is....  The District Membership Chairperson will do the answering of questions after I run on and on for a few minutes.  Similar sessions have been held at the parochial school here in Geneva.  So hopefully we will get enough kids to get the unit up and running finally.  I also need to get time to sit down with my minister to talk about starting a Venture group at the church.

Catch you all later!

Afternoon Folks!

Still feeling awkward, no improvement yet.

I spent most of the afternoon watching "Once upon a time in the West". Pretty boring, actaulyy, but it is the mother of all spaghetti western movies. Adding a cow catcher and a diamond stack to an Italian loco does not turn her into an American engine ... OTOH, Claudia Cardinale was some sight Whistling

Mr. B. - the hospital is where my cardiologist has his practice. My "normal" doc ain´t good for my ongoing  heart issues - I go there only to renew my prescriptions.

Well,

Looks like I have some work to do!!!! Serious and quick!!!!

MOH, in ministerial duties, performs weddings too. looks like we have one coming up by October 20th. MOH has been after me for a while to get a new vestments made specifically for weddings. MOH's grand ideas and my abilities to sew it are two of a diferent sort. We have the basics, I still need some more materials {IF MOH accepts and can do the wedding then} to finish the project then to actually get the sewing machine out and GIT'ERDONE.

That's right, My Mother {bless her soul} made sure I knew how to sew! I don't actually LIKE doing it, which is why all my pants are still too long {i need a 28" inseam, many come now 34"} and I have yet to hem them at all. A rolled up "hem" and An ocassional hike up works well, is cheap and doesn't require as much work as marking, cutting, sewing and re-hemming the pants does....

I have the basics of the vestments, and need to get a few yards of finishing material. ANd I have to make a new stole. THAT will have to wait, but should become my new winter hobby. MOH wants a particular kind of one done, and it is a laboriously intense material cutting-sewing machine-sewing workout to perform, but LOOKS quite beautiful when completed. I can still kind of cheat, but takes as much work if not more.  I made a vest for the MIL once with that type of quilting pattern on it, and MOH either wants me to adjust and remake  the vest to MOH's dimensions as a vestment overlay, or to make the stole in the same pattern. It involves strips of fabric about 4 inches long sewn alternately lengthwise, and from 1/4" wide to 1.5-2" wide widths sewn together staggeredly so you have "waves" of rows of each color/fabric. You sew in a long loop, then cut so the "waves" appear, and the strips appear to "grow" from the 1/4" to the 2" wide within the wave. Its hard to explain, but took me about 35 hours to do the mounting pieces for the front of MIL's vest, Then had to fix the backing for it and sew together. That took more time. I can salvage the mounting pieces, problem is I sewed them on with matching color  thread in one of the machine's " automatic fancy stitches", which is the most complex and is triple-stitched with a double needle in a pattern creating diamond boxes of thread. The seam ripping to remove the attaching thread alone is going to take about 5 hours of diligent, fine, almost invisible work! I CANNOT cut the material, only the threads, which are the same color of the thread and the like, if I DO cut the material, I RUIN the whole thing!. since it is sewn in the pattern of two diamond {square but aligned like diamonds} boxes side by side, I cannot just cut one thread and pull it out like normal plain threading would do. I have to take out EACH individual box or set of diamond boxes carefully.

Ugh.Crying

double ugh.Black Eye

well, best find and dig out the vest and the materials for the vestments, then go shopping for what I lack...now WHERE did they get off to? Whistling

Not much going on this morning. Got the dressing on my foot changed. Popped a stitch. Very bloody. The new dressing has been tight wrapped to help prevent another stitch pop. On my way to town now to pick up a small thin crust pizza for lunch. I should be able to snack on it all day.

Gee, No one in here for hours?

Well, Details for the wedding have been somewhat finalized. MOH did not immediately ask me for the new vestments, will use existing for the wedding. SOme details may have to change depending on  the weather the next to last week of October. Around here it could be 75 and sunny or 28 and snowing then. Or at least raining and 40. Hoping for SUnny and 70 then for the wedding party, small.

I have puttered. My right shoulder is really killing me and nothing I have is working pain wise. I cannot wait til the 30th to find out WHAT the orthopedist has planned to solve the problem and WHEN! I find the cold, whether A/C or chilly weather, seems to make it hurt more. Folding laudry I have to do, but dreading it as it will hurt my shoulder badly.

I am on my own for dinner tonight. dunno what yet.

Went to Wal-Mart today to replenish my supply of powered drink mixes. You've seen them. Pour one into a 20oz bottle of water, shake to mix, and instant drink. The carb flooded out on me several times on the way there and several more times on the way back. Told my nephew about it and he said he'd be right over to correct it. To me that means he'll be over very soon. That was several hours ago and I haven't seen him since. When I came out of Wal-Mart it wouldn't start. So I tried the little trick he told me about. Turned the key all the way forward and held it there while I pressed the start button.  It backfired once through pipes Then started.

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer Please

Good Day For Spending Most Of It At The VA Hosptial! Yes Well I finally got a CPAP Machine! I sure hope it takes care of my sleeping problem. I tell you I am impressed with it! It will warm the air to the mask if I like, has a bulit in humidifer and it is quite! Going to sleep on the couch a few more nights till I am uses to it, then back to the bedroom! Big Smile

Spent a hour with my Doctor talking about things I was a little worried about. He thinks the pain I had in my foot is never (cannot spell the word for some reason) damage. I will be seen a foot Dr soon. Blood pressure was 120 or 60. and my weight was up by 1 pound? Odd thing is my clothers are getting a little to big. So I am loosing fat and gaining some muscle.

Workout Had another great one tonight! Increased the weight on side shoulder exercises and hit 10 reps each! Will increses again after I do 13 reps for 4 sets. I all so picked up 2 reps in the last set of bench pressing!

YGW With what I have invisoned, pullys will not work. Main problem is the two car garage door.

Ulrich My thoughts is a U shape or around the room layout that goes around the Road Runner. I am pretty sure I can make a pop up roll out section for the garage door.

http://s83.photobucket.com/user/cudaken/media/Layut%20ideas/Garagejpg.jpg.html]

This is a rough plan of the garage with doors and the big thing in the rear is my Air Compressior. I will give more details later and do a bad drawing of what I have in mind. This drawing is with the storage room removed.

Got to walk Sparkie The Rocket Dog!

 See you all Saturday, Ken

Wouldn't be surprised to learn of reports of gunfire at the Wal-Mart parking lot today. When that old van fired up today the cylinders were loaded up so when it popped off it sounded like eight gunshots right in a row.Kinda like a big 426 firing off.
Went tonight to look at another old van a 1996 Chevyvan20. Looks to be in fair shape. Bunco of water in gas tank. Told the guy to hook the fuel pump directly to the battery and let it do all the work and pump the water out. Put some gas in along with a couple big bottles of STP gas treatment and that would get rid of the water. Brake system needs work but that could be just a faulty booster. I haven't decided yet whether I want it or not. The guy wants $400 for it. Couldn't really tell in the dark but looks like it has a 305 engine. As my nephew says it's about time to retire the old RAM and start playing with something newer.

Good evening. Time for me to call it a night. It's 76° with 85% humidity. As I said earlier, went and looked at a '96 Chevyvan20. I never been a big Chevy fan. Used a lot of them for target practice in past years. And GM's current track record doesn't exactly instill me with confidence in their past products. What I see in this van is an opportunity to put my mark on it. From what I remember of the old 305 engine is that it doesn't have a whole lot of pulling power. Tranny's weren't exactly the best either. Far as I know this one has an automatic in it. For the money it looks like something I can have some fun with.

Time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Good Morning!

Summer is biding a nice farewell to us - it´s sunny, but already too hot for my taste.

Flo, just coffee, please.

Ken - a U-shaped layout requires large turnback curves at each end. You will need a width of about 6 ft. for them, which takes up a lot of real estate. Could you amend your drawing with some text, so I can locate the garage doors, windows, doors or any other obstacle (like your car)?

I have been reviewing my model railroading options a couple of more times, without coming to a conclusion. Here is what I see:

  • Build a HOn3 switching layout, using Fremo module standards

It´s been one of my dreams for over 40 years to have a HOn3 layout, but I don´t really want to build another shelf switcher. Building the layout according to Fremo standards would allow me to take it to the bi-annual Fremo HOn3 group meetings, if I find a suitable transport for it. The modules won´t fit into my car. My little steamer would go back into its box Crying

  • Build a HOn30 layout, following European prototype

The space I have would allow me to build a small loop of track, with a station and hidden staging. European locos and rolling stock can negotiate curves as sharp as 10" - HOn3 needs 18" minimum. I am not so keen of building a European prototype layout ...

  • Give up model railroading and look for something else

That will be a hard decision to take, after more than 50 years of being a model railroader. It would be a logical consequence of not being able to build what I like, though.

I will attend that Fremo HOn3 group meeting coming Friday, before deciding which way I will be heading.

Have a happy weekend!

GOOD SATURDAY MORNING!

Ulrich:regardless of how long you have been in the hobby and regardless of whether or not you will miss it, a new hobby may NOT be the answer! Here's why:

1} start up costs: each new hobby will require at the very least buying some start up manuals and reading materials to study for to learn about it and what the heck you are doing. Even IF it doesn't require manuals, there still is the "first piece" to buy.

2} then there are the needed additional supplies to work your new hobby, more money.

3] to make it "be right" you will spend more.

4} to get what you WANT for the hobby, you will spend more money again.

5} it will become just as much a money drain and storage problem too.

here's an example: It is NOT exactly a "hobby", but my "new thing" has been the Celtic Heritage thing. You remember the KILT{s}?.With a good Irish first name nodding to my Irish heritage, adn a good Scottish last name obvious of my Scottish heritage, Having a Kilt was a "natrual fit"!!!  You would think nothing of "just buying a kilt{s}" {NOTICE: I put the {s} on it for a reason!!} . BUT: Then there was the reasearch into heritage and Kilt tartan patterns to select.  Then there is buying the kilt pin to add to the kilt and to keep your "flap down". Then you want the long hose to go with it so it "looks good". There are Flashes to buy for the hose {2 strips of colored fabric in mathcing color to the kilt} to wear attached to the hose} Then there is the big belt to buy. AND the Sporran to buy/acquire. Then there is the shirt, while I CAN 'wear any shirt', I had to get the casual "swashbuckler" shirt for complementing the casual wearing of the kilt. THen for the "formal look", there was the Vest to buy. If I wear a regular dress shirt for the "formal look" with the vest, there is buying one {shirt} to compliment the kilt's colors. Then there is the Kilt hangers to hang them up to buy {still have to do that, right now so they don't wrinkle, they are rolled in a thick towel to keep them. I saw a "kilt roll" thingy you can BUY and go the idea to use a towel instead}}. Then there will be the garment stprage bags for all. THEN: NOTICE I said "them"!!! One-the purple "Pride of Scotland" Tartan Kilt  one wasn't enough! I then bought a Red/green {red is my favorite color} "Celtic Heritage" tartan kilt! NOW am I done? NO! Now I MUST have a custom made a family clan {sur name} kilt {red/blue for the "modern one"}!!!! WIll THAT be ALL? NO! Of course NOT! I have to get the family clan Heraldry stuff!!!{paper history/diagram for framing}

In short, "Kilting" has become my NEW hobby!!! ANd it WASN'T meant to be!

I swore OFF all "new hobbies" after seeing how much MRRIng stuff I had bought and will probably never use! I have always had a "hobby" of some sort..even when it was "just music" as a young man! {true component stero components, records, CDs, tapes, portable stereos to "take along",and more to buy/spend/store!!

So. just be forewarned a new hobby might not be that much different from the old one!!!

Jeffrey: I used to be a GM man. I liked the vehicles they produced. My first vehicle of my own was brand new 1983  GMC S-15 truck {same as Chevy S-10}. My second was a brand new 1987 Chevy full sized 4x4 K10 truck. The starter on it quit every 5 1/2 months, so constantly was replaced under the 6 month warrantee on the new one. The front auto locking hubs and actually the whole axle had to be replaced. Other than that it was actually a fine vehicle til the engine blew at 150K. Then I got a dodge caravan and had a {used} '88, '91, '98 of those, and now have the '06 Kia Sedona minivan, which as you know has had its share of problems. They all had their fair share of probelms, and parts to be replaced. The 98 we practically rebuilt it over the time we had it, and it was rusting form the inside out. I am not "brand loyal" anymore, it is the vehicle/type of vehicle I go for that I need {obviously I am a truck/van person}.

WEll, I don't know what trouble I will get into today, have another headache setting in. So maybe not much!

Make it A GREAT day!

I like the looks of some of their vehicles. Problem is every Chevy I've had was a lemon.

Good morning. It's 72° with 95% humidity. The high will be 88 and cloudy.

Today I may get out and get some photos of the Chevy van and see what the door post sticker has to say about engine size and such. Seems like as good a way to waste time as any. It'll give me a chance to study the body as well. I'm told it has no dents, damage or rust spots but my nephew has a tendency to exaggerate. In other news, my foot is hurting. The doc carved on and removed bone in the last surgery and the only pain I feel acutely is bone pain.

Mornin' everyone!

Chloe, I just need a refill for my dark roast coffee and I will be good.

Just got back home from the annual Hazzardous Household Waste collection day out at the Ontario county landfill.   I got to say hi to a former Mayor of Geneva who I know fairly well (taught his kids music way back when).  He runs the local company shop that is taking and processes old electrocnics.  They are one of two companies that take the items.  Also ended up right next to an employee of mine back when I was in business.  The kid is now the Business Manager for Scout Camp and a Math teacher at a nearby School.  He lives near the landfill so I asked him why he didn't just walk over rather than drive his Dodge Dakota...  I also told him I find it ironic that so many people come to these things driving there huge SUVs and V-10/V-8 4 wheel drive pickups and sit there idleing for half an hour waiting in line just so they can help save the enviroment....  He grinned and agreed with me.  I did let him know that sitting in line I used up one miles worth of sunshine! Whistling  You know when there is a huge solar spill, they usually call it a nice day....Smile, Wink & Grin

I need to get the lawn mowed today if possible.  Then pack up the Region convention laptop computer to take with me to the museum tomorrow, wash clothes so I have something to wear out at the museum tomorrow, and maybe even get some modeling done...

Hey Jeffrey, I think your have some track missing there!  Those thieves have been stealling steel again?

Later!
