Wondering about Ulrich!

GOOD THURSDAY MORNING!

Today is Thursday,

Healing thoughts, energies, and

Good Morning!

It´s Father´s Day here in Germany, as always coinciding with Ascension Day. The weather has turned bad for that day - as usual.

Those missing doors on my Forney really bugged me all night, so I decided to do some surgery this morning, trying to implant them again. The firts  one really went in quick, but the second one nearly gave me a heart attack. When the door was just about to slide into the little holes holding it, the phone rang! It was my son, saying thank you for being my papa. That threw me back an hour. After a lot of fiddling around and re-glueing other parts which had fallen off during the process, both doors are now back in their place and the loco is complete again - big Sigh of relief!

As Mr. Murphy hasn´t yet moved out of this place, I won´t touch my layout today!

Ken - I must have read over it - sorry. Thanks for being such a big help Angel Happy anniversary! Ours will be in a few weeks - not the 38th yet, but the first digit is also a 3...

Have a good one!

G. - Bachmann locos are somehow like French cars - nice looking, but difficult to maintain. If I had known that half of the loco falls apart, I would have left the decoder where it was! It´d be nice, if Bachmann includes something like a service manual, not just an exploded view ( Bachmann actually violates European law).

My heart is giving me continuing issue, so I will have to slow down even more. I don´t like it, but that´s the way it is.

Good morning!  Let's see, June in a couple of days and the temperature outside is...34 degrees F?  Well, that's what weather dot com said.  By the time I got on the road it was 43, and the online number was probably a bit old, but it's still awfully cold for this time of year.  Had to break out the leather jacket to go to work.

Galaxy, which of the many blood pressure meds are you on?  When I was first put on Lisinopril, I checked out the common side effects.  Sure enough, after a few months I developed "the cough" that many users get.  It's somehow a distinct cough, so recognizeable that I immediately noticed it in my mother-in-law and found out she'd been on the same stuff.  Next, I tried one of those beta-blockers (Atenolol,) but that lowered my heart rate so much that they almost wouldn't give me a colonoscopy.  39 is too low for a heartrate, and I had no energy at all.  I'm on Losartan now, and it seems OK.  But, everyone is different, so tell your doc to let you know about side effects.  It's up to you to watch for them.

My blood sugar is too high, too.  I'm on a new med for that.  I don't generally eat desserts or sweet snacks, but he said it was a genetic thing, and would have this problem even if I ate nothing but bran cereal.  So, another pill.  Sometimes I feel like I'm a science project, and I don't even have anything debilitating.

I've got an appointment for my new (since September) car.  The driver's side window just stopped working.  Fortunately, it's in the closed position.  Saturday is supposed to be nice, so I'll put my bicycle in the car and drop it off in the morning, then pick it up later in the day.  If it does happen to rain, I'll use the mountain bike, take the old railroad bed trail and "get muddy."

Mr. B:

I take none of those you mentioned. Here is what I take:

http://www.drugs.com/vasotec.html

The only side effect I see is that when I first started taking it, or when we doubled it to 2x a day, I had a chill going. MOH takes one of thsoe you mention and at first had a chill going to.

SO now that we are doubling the dose I now take, I probably will chill.

Now: I looked at the new bottle the pharmacy gave me: I WAS on 5 mg twice a day, NOW he prescribed 10mg ONCE a day!!! No difference, so I will have to call him! It should be 10mg TWICE a day!

Grr.!

...Sometimes I feel like I'm a science project, and I don't even have anything debilitating. ;...

I do have  a couple of debilitating things wrong with me, and at 27 prescriptions, I sometimes feel like a "science experiment" too..or rather a "medication trial and errror guinea pig"!!

Unfortunately, There isn't a medication I can really do without! Once a year my Dr{s} and I go over what all I take and try to eliminate one or two. Usually it gets replaced with something else IF I find I can do without the one or two we eliminated!!!

What really bugs the heck out of me is every January I get a letter form my scripts insurance that they "no longer have this med on our formulary. We have provided you with one month's supply while you search for a new medication that is on our formulary, or seek alternatives" or some crap like that!

ANd what bugs me is that it is often NOT the most expensive one in the bunch! BUT it is usually mroe than I can realistically afford to take on a monthly basis!

Grr.

Good morning to all,

I did too much yesterday so I'm kind of stiff & sore all over today. Good excuse to take it easy I suppose. Spent most of the day running up & down from the cellar to do laundry. I also managed to get the grass cut yesterday morning. It was high again, and with all the rain we have been having, the lawn mower kept getting packed with wet grass. What a mess. Got lucky though, as no sooner did I finish & start putting things away, it started to rain. Then the company who is going to replace some windows came back to confirm some measurements that had done before.

I'm beginning to have informational overload with the new camera & IPhone. Fortunately Dennis reminded me about YouTube for the camera, & I have found a couple of good tips with a lot more to watch. Thanks Dennis. Last night I went to the Apple Store for a free workshop on the phone. Got very lucky as a the nice and well informed lady who helped set my phone up initially was conducting the workshop. Got lucky again as I was the only one to show up, so it was a one on one situation. Was just great. I will sign up for another workshop next week on the "ICloud". I kind of feel like I just wandered in from the wilderness. For someone who remembers having an "ice box" when I was a kid, this stuff really amazes me.

Guess I better try to get some of the chores done, so stay safe & have a great day.

Good morning every one. Been super busy at w**k Just conducted our preconstruction meeting yesterday ( boy that was a lot of effort getting to that stage )  went reasonably well . Wasnt feeling well over the holidy and spent Mondy at home clening up the engines . Actually got some of the old ones that I purchased cheap ($5 to $20 each ) and got them to run with some lube and cleaning. Took me all day to do that between periods of rest .

Ulrich I am surprised you have bachman after all of the rants on here about how bad they are , did you buy a Bachman plus ? What is Ascension day ? How did Bachman break the Euro laws with the Bachman ?

Tom - welcome to the web/cloud thingy

Jeremy - did you ride all in one location or to somewhere and then back ?

Galxy - hope you feel better , if you think the med situation is bad now, wait until Obam cre is fully implemented. You can get a snippet of wht it will be by looking at the VA and those poor souls who lost there life to Governement run health care there.

Jeff - nice looking shed. Love the sign : ), nice touch.

Well break is over gotta get back to w**k TTYL all

Thanks.

Good morning. It's 68° with 98% humidity. The high will be 85° and cloudy. There's a fair chance for rain.

Not much going on today. I think I'll just relax and try to get some rest. I've had some near sleepless nights and they're catching up with me. Heart rate was up a bit yesterday for some reason. It's usually 80-82 at rest. Yesterday it was 101-104 at rest. This morning it's back to 80-82. Later I may take apart a M0107 disk drive that needs some attention but only after I get some sleep.

YGW - Bachmann is the sole supplier of (affordable) On30 locos and cars, so there is no other option for me. I think that the quality of Bachmann products is much better than their reputation. The locos are well detailed, and smooth performers at a fairly low price. Compared to the likes of Marklin, Roco and Fleischmann, they are a steal. I just have to learn how to live with a few oddities, like detail parts are not glued but only "clipped" in, or a loco shell is not held to the chassis with a single screw, but up to 20. The reason why Bachmann is violating EU law has nothing to do with the product itself, but the required paperwork around it. There is no CE conformity declaration nor a manual that´s worth to be called that. Interesting fact is, that the European brands of Bachmann, i.e. Graham Farish and Bachmann Branchlines in the UK, and Liliput in Austria, all are CE conform. Products which are not CE conform are supposed to be banned from the EU markets. Maybe that´s the reason why German dealers by them from Bachmann USA.

Ascension day is a catholic holiday - the day when Jesus ascended to heaven. It´s a national holiday in Germany, although we are predominantly of protestant belief.

Morning all! It's monsone season here. Been raining steady for the last 72 hours and forcast to continue till midnight tonight. At least it isn't a downpour sort of rain, just continuous and steady. I do hope that the weather folks are right about it stopping tonight.

Haven't been up to much the last two days, the dull grey cold weather starts to get to me after a while and I get feeling kind of blah. Joints hurt too so that doesn't help. Clinical Depression sucks even when it is ünder control". Meds kind of take all the joy out of life but what can ya do but live with it.

Went and bought a 45 lb bag of play sand at Home Depot for use on the layout. Tired of spending a fortune on fine ground cover from the hobby shop. My railroad is a mountain railroad after all so sand/small rock etc. fits right in. Pretty much the right color for lots of things as well.

Looks like Saturday will be lawn mowing day or perhaps I should say Haying day.

Well, need to go do some rock carving so best I get with it.

Cheers to all.

Good Morning,

We are expecting a hot day here, at least for us, with a high of 85F. That will be good for a few thunderstorms later tonight.

Well gardening is in full swing in our back yard. We are about to head back to a nursery shortly as we are short some plants. The bill so far is close to $500 but it is something we budget each year. May is always a high expense month so I am not surprised.

Ken, congrats on the anniversary! I am referring to you and Sue, not Miss Lumpy.

Tom, I admire you going high tech. Personally I plan on sticking with my ancient flip phone which I rarely use anyway. I bought a new camera last year, a Lumix FZ200 which is a glorified point and shoot with a good zoom lens. When I read some of the manual for it my brain freezes over. I'm not sure why I need many of the features it has but that seems to be the way of a lot of technology in my opinion. Some programmer says I can add this or that just to show they can do it whether or not it is really useful.

Galaxy, take care of that BP! The levels you noted are very high. My wife had an elevated level in the winter of 140 and the doc said if it didn't come down then she would have to go on meds. She got it down with the Dash diet so no meds.

Well time to head out. No Model RR for some time now. I moved the Northern out of the yard, coupled it to a passenger train a couple of weeks ago but it hasn't left the station.

Afternoon all.  I've got another viewing to go to- I am only 22, I shouldn't have to have gone to two funerals in 5 months already.  I am off work until Saturday, and working on some of my stuff for friday night's open mic night.  I also started working again on the bridge project.  I finished up about four of these stone piers.

Yeah, come this weeks pay,I'll get in contact with bachman about getting the Alco repaired.  I hope everyone here is doing okay.

Well Ulhrich that is fascinating. How did a day thatis a catholic Holiday become a German protestant holiday , bet there is one heck of story there ! What is also of interest is we celebrate in April. I wonder why the wide difference in time frames ? How much does a Euro approved Bachmann cost vs. A USA Bachmann ?

Jeff - I LOVE your weathering on the tanker , you are truly gifted.

I'd cook that sand first before putting it on the layout to kill off any nasty little things in it.

And wore my self out! and its barely noon already!

Of course I managed only 2.5 hours of sleep last night!!

I went to B,B&B to return a  shower stand, and buy a new one, also found a neat little solar deck light for by the porch door. Hope it works for where i want to put it to light the stairs. Probably shoulda bought 2 @ 4.99 e.

I went to Lowes to return $27 in roofing stuff not needed. Brand new not used, she had to ask "doesn't fit?" DUH! its not clothing or a window curtain...

a;sp gpt pressure washer soap for the trailer..got the "Krud Kutter for Vehicles and Boats", should work on the trailer, they pictured an RV trailer on the label..plus MOH wants to wash new car with it too.

So I am firmly BUSHED!!!

Afternoon folks!

Chloe, I'll have hot turkey sandwitch, some french fries and a big slice of dill pickle for lunch along with a decaf, please...

Already did a days amout of w*rk this morning.  Tried to finish the lawn.  Got about 2/3rds of the front yard done, but my toe was starting to ache.  I figured I best give it a rest.  I have also been trying to find some folks to help me get flyers for the Pack out to churches.  Have one lady from the MLK Committee who will get them to a few churches and I am waiting for another person to return my message.  i also sent the DE (District Executive) an email telling him to drop some off at the local Parocial School.  Thewy are an untapped resourse...

I have to take Blackie over for his Blood Work in an hour.  Then back to w*rk on the lawn and some gardening before I have supper and head out to a Troop Meeting tonight.  You know, I'm retired.  Why am I so busy?  Oh, I like life that way!  Yep, your right...

[color=red]Galaxy[/color, Wash a new car?!?  Trying to ruin it?  Never wash a car....  That makes all the neighbors wash theirs and it wastes a lot of water!  Seriously, think twice about using the pressure washer on the car...  I know of some people who wrecked their paint job that way....  The old fashioned Armstrong method using a soft sponge works better.  That is, unless your presure washer can be turned way, way down, take it to the car wash instead!

Catch you all later!

Yeah, seriously, I've peeled paint off a car with a pressure washer. If the pressure can't be dialed down at least try keeping the nozzle at least a foot away from the car.

About 40% more, half of that is due to VAT (=sales tax), which is 19% on top of all sales.

THAT is what i tried to tell MOH!!! Several times, however, the pressure washer DOES has a "gentle cycle" adjustment.

Ooooh, I'm so excited!  I ordered my new camera last night, a Canon SX170 IS.  I got a bunch of emails today from Amazon, and my toys are now all in "Track Your Package" land.  For whatever reason, I really love watching the progress as they move across the country.  Oddly, the camera doesn't come with a cable to connect it to the computer, so that's a separate package from a different dealer.  And, when I order from Amazon, I collect cheaper items in my "cart" until I've got enough to qualify for free shipping, so I'll be getting a Kalmbach train book and a container of that Pearl Drops tooth pollish stuff that people recommend for quieting down gear noise in older Athearn locomotives.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

I’ve had a very good day. A camera case & a t-shirt that I ordered off the internet were delivered today. And it wasn’t raining at the time so neither box got soaking wet for a change. Now for many of you, the following would not be a big deal, but for someone who is as technologically challenged as I am, it surely is. I was able to pair my new IPhone to my Honda CRV. Now I’m hands free. It was very simple & worked the first time I tried to connect them. I figure I’m using up all my good luck, so I’m not going to do anything else but have dinner & read a book. I’ll get back to my normal life tomorrow.

MR. B: I Know you said " SX170IS But all I saw was "SX 70" as in Polaroid SX70 Land Camera!!! I must be showing my age as I am sure there is one or two of those in museums! It was a stunner when MOH saw a photo of a School bus in the local "hoidy toidy" Museum that said "School Bus, Circa 1970"!!! WE RODE those busses!!! I wonder if your cannon camera's designation has anything remotely to do with the idea of the P.SX70?

Ulrich: there is that pesky "Politico" stuff again! Funny how that subject creeps up often in the Adult world.Whistling

I, too have been tracking packages across the country! One is the proper 2.5" kilt belt, and the other is, uh, um, er, ah, comfy moisture-wicking unmentionables. The Vest to go with the kilt is not shipped yet, though I am waiting patiently for IT, too. The belt and buckle should be here by Sat or Monday as shipped Wed. USPS "3rd day". It is currently in UTAH. IDO hope the vest gets here by June 25th or 26th and actually FITS my fat belly as is SHOULD....

BREAKING NEWS

: A Suspect is in Custody after a crash accident with a State Trooper, apparently the trooper was  a fatality? I81 interstate is closed N bound and backed up from the PA border apparently. Prayers are need! a candle has been lit!

It is a good thing I switched Psychiatrists, as the Clinic I used to go to is now Closing. But who knows how long the current county Mental Health clinic I now go to will stay open? All about Medicaid billing and tax{es} support!

TOM in Pittsburgh: That would be the way I woudl feel iff'en I got a fancy-schmancy new "smart phone" and could add it to my car's comunnications system! My new FLIP phone has about 6 pages of {de}structions {my bro always called them that instead of IN structions} on how to get the "blue tooth" to work form the phone wirelessly to the ear headpiece? I never DID figure that one out, and since i rarely use my flip phone, I let it go!

CN Charley; I am happy it is so warm for you there. Here we have a temp inversion going on and it is not even out of the 50sF!!!! I went to the mailbox in shorts nad t-shirt {fine for in here even without the AC going} and I turned around and came back for long legs and flannel shirt! Saves on the Electric bill not having AC going though!

and it has been CLOUDY for the past few days... WOnder just how much {little} electricity RAY is generating just N of me???

Howdy, Diners.

Not much model railroading to report. .... Just got back from Nashville where I went Tuesday. Went to the heart clinic at Vanderbilt University Hospital.  I'll be okay, and it's time to get back to normal again.

Happy Model Railroading.

Well I managed to get a couple hours of sleep today so I opened up an Apple A9M0107 5¼" floppy disk drive that needs some attention. The 19-pin cable that was connected to it was chewed up by a dog and isn't serviceable nor do I have a spare. So I was wondering if I could put a 20-pin flat ribbon cable in it's place and run the drive off an X104 controller like a Disk II drive. I never tried this before. I removed the damaged cable and studied the on-board connector. It has twenty pins, same as the Disk II connector and the electronics of the X104 and 0101 control cards is virtually identical so i couldn't see any reason why it shouldn't work. Nothing ventured nothing gained. At the most it could blow the computers mother board, at the least blow the control card or the control board in the drive. Any of these I can obtain and replace easily. So I connected the twenty pin ribbon cable to the drives control board and connected the other end to an X104 control card in my //e and turned it on. It worked! The drive booted the disk and the greeting program came up on the screen. That's great. The drawback of running it off an X104 controller is that I can't daisy chain a second drive from this one. But I can still run them as a set on the X104 controller if I convert the second drive too. So I guess one of my next online purchases will be a couple of long flat 20-pin ribbon cables from Bulgaria.
