As I recall, Galaxy, poor old Polonius didn't fare too well in the play.  Of course, most of the main characters didn't do any better.  I'm more of a Midsummer Night's Dream guy, though.

Listening to the weather, it's going to be "unsettled" over the weekend.  Sometimes they use that word, but when they keep changing the forecast it means they are really only giving it a best guess.  Last weekend was "mostly gorgeous" with a bit of "partly beautiful" mixed in, although the forecast as late as Friday was raining tabbies and Rotweilers.  We could have either.  I've got to replace a bathroom faucet in either case.

I had an absolutely delicious seafood chowder at the cafeteria here at work yesterday.  It was made to order, with your choice of scallops, clams, shrimp, cod, onions, celery, potatoes and/or bacon in any combination.  Chef Maria heated that all in a frying pan and then added the chowder (heavy cream and clam juice, mostly) to complete the dish.  Cooking it that way kept all the individual tastes distinct.

I'll hopefully be putting the finishing touches on the Railway Express depot over the weekend, and starting on the scenery around it.  There's only one small scene left before all the pink foam on my layout is covered.  After that, it's on to Phase 3, a 3-foot bridge across a new aisle over to some benchwork on the other side of the room.  Given my planned retirement and our subsequent plans to move, it's not clear how far along I'll get with this, but I will carry on regardless.

Good morning. It's 68° with 100% humidity and fog. The high will be 88° with a few clouds.

A stainless steel microwave looks nice when it's clean but keeping it clean is a job in itself. Everything shows up on it and you could drive yourself crazy trying to keep it looking nice. Good thing I didn't buy mine because of the way it looks. I bought it because of the low price and the brand name.

No plans for today. Currently I'm waiting on the Home Health nurse to call (Monday-Wednesday-Friday) so the wound vac dressing can be changed. Anything else will be taken (or ignored) as it comes.

Good morning .... Oatmeal and OJ, please.

Tom ..... Sad to hear about your wife's friend. I like the photo of the HiRail truck. I recall driving one a short distance on branch line track one time years ago.

Ray ..... Sounds like you are being careful with the moo poo. Laugh

Jeff .... Perhaps you can name your stainless micro wave. How about the "Sundown Zephyr"?

Ken ... Hopefully, you are pleasantly surprised with some big dollar sales.

Ulrich..... Nothing like a loud storm to awaken you. Get some more Zzz tonight. I have used white glue to hold coal in tenders and it looks good. You may wish to practice on a scrap piece to test it. Sounds like you need bigger limps of coal, however.

Mr. B ... Your Railway Express depot sounds like a good project.

Galaxy .... A lot of wisom in the quotes.

Happy Model Railroading

Good morning everyone. If anyone wants a cup of Joe, donut steak and egg or what ever fill up the tab is on me. Vets to the front today though. Thanks guy for your sacrifice and keeping us safe !

Yesterday was a TOUGH day. On my way to w**k had to change direction from my intended destination and divert to another to address a controling, drama king, Professor who thinks WAY to highly of himself and likes to make mole hills out of ant hills. Just because one of my venders got a little paint on his grass . I have two years to put up with this guy. Keep me in prayer that I can respond to this jerk in a proffessional fashion. After dealing with this then I headed to the second and orginial destination. Amazingly while there the house sprung a water leak from, you guessed it, a sanitary line of all things - yuck - the pipe had been in a year ! The plumber primed the pipe and forgot to glue the stupid thing. Amazingly it didnt leak under test when it was first built !!! Then at home my oldest daughter had a melt down over the loss of her mom . She is in the anger stage now, the second stage of grief. She sobbed and sobbed. She said I am angry my left me right when I needed her the most. The thing that broke my heart is when she said " If only I had not gone to sleep that night I could have stayed awake and not let her fallen asleep and she would have lived just a little longer" the girls were hoping that their mom would be alive for the younger daughters birthday. She missed making it by just a little over a week. The funeral was about the same time as her birthday. I had to explain to her that she did all any little girl could and that the cancer had spread to the vital part of teh brain that controls breathing. It is tough for them especially being 5 and 8 at the time they losted their mom. I think this is going to be a long painful journey.

Ulrich - WOW that doc is amazing. Great job. What about if you ground up some balsa wood in a grinder and painted it black ? That might work for the coal ?

Jeff - what is that in your photo from yesterday a caboose work truck thingy ? Is that one of your faous kit bash jobs ?

Garry - I have a suggestion for teh Ole Vampire - bring a stake and hammer next time. I think they will get the picture !

Galaxy - Obama care has cost me a fortune . When that blood sucking thief implemented that system my insurance deductable went to 10k! per year. I can tell you I know a bunch of swindler who are dead beat and could work if they surgically removed their lazy bone . I burns my hide that they recieve better insurance at my expense and know I cannot afford to go because of the high deductible. My deductible has basically caused me and my family to not have insurance. A plague on "affordable health care " !

A plague on "affordable health care " !

Be carefull what you wish for! It has a way of boomeranging back to you! SO, If you want "a plague" on you, then go for it!

Same with dealing with the guy!

P.S> It was me who mentioned trials/tribulations with the vampire trying to "suck the blood out of me"...!

I took a nice little nap after figuring out the finances for the time being. WIll do the CU on the way to the Dentist for a cleaning to finish up with the finances!

I have had a day yesterday of trying to keep awake, apparently not sleeping well has cought up with me!

I may go for another short nap before the dentist too.

have a great day!

YGW - I would have to buy a grinder first. Buying a bag of scale coal will prove to be cheaper, I guess.

Did not do much on the layout today. I just finished the railing, now all I have to do to finish it, is to build the stairs and bollards. Ah, well, and to add the missing planks ...

... and here comes my wood burner turned into a coal burnert, this time with the correctly positioned generator exhaust:

Jeff - what is that in your photo from yesterday a caboose work truck thingy ? Is that one of your faous kit bash jobs ?

If you're referring to this:

yes, it is one of my kitbash jobs. A MoW train work caboose. It consists of a pair of Fox trucks, a Con-Cor 50' flatcar, a Bachmann widevision caboose body and some scratched stakes and slats.

YGW ....

Regarding the professor, my wife made a clssic comment to one of those self centered people while we were changing planes in a crouded airport. We were waiting in a counter at an over crowded restaurant for sandwiches we ordered for a flight which was about to depart in a few minutes. I big, obese woman oushed against everybody as she forced her way to the cashier as she grumble about people who she thought should stand elsewhere. .... Shelley said to the lady:" Oh. I remebr you. You're the one the wold revolves around." ... LaughSmile, Wink & GrinBig Smile

Also, YGW .... Not sure what you mean about the vampire. ... ACA has already caused significant damge to the economy as it helps a small minority of people and hurts everybody else. The middle class is hurt the most. I don't beleive the numbers stated by the administration because they were completely untruthful when they were selling the ACA. However, let's not allow the conversation to go farter because politics should not be discussed here. ... Regarding your daughter dealing with grief, praying for peace for her. Let her know we Diners care.

Back to model railroading. Currently, I have two Zephyrs running on the layout which are now in WPF.

Happy Model Rairloading

Mornin' everyone!

Dark and gloomy here in the Finger Lakes Region today.  Showers and Thunderboomers will be arriving this afternoon.  Currently 55°F with a high of 61°F this afternoon.

As always I have a long list of items needing to get done today.  Have to pick up an Rx at the Pharmacy, Deposit a fairly large amount of $$$ for the Martin Luther King Committee from the dinner, get my allergy shot, go grocery shopping, drive to the Menonite Place for the Moo Poo and do a lot more weeding.  The last 2 will depend on the weather more than likely.  I need to get the garden ready to plant next week!

Tonight I might actually go down to the train room and see what trouble I can get into down there.

Catch you all later!

I sought to dress mine up more than the old Lionel model and to make it a much more unique model I added shelf couplers.

Hello all. I'm back from a rather busy two weeks of visiting, yard work, more visiting and more yard work. Got all the bedding plants planted today which is a task in and of itself. Can't beleive how the price has gone up over last year. Oh well we really enjoy having a park like yard and that comes at a cost.

Spent 4 days in northern alberta with MOH's sister. She married a farmer so she has quite a different perspective on life. Now lives in a small town because with her husband having Alizmiers and in long term care, she couldn't stay out on the farm . Poor lady has had a ton of change in her life in the last year but she's pretty pragmatic about life so she's dealing with it all.

We spent a couple of days visiting MOH's Mom who has bowel cancer and is in a long term care facility as well. Every time we see her, she's faded a little more. The waiting game is really hard on MOH and my SIL.

Sort of gotten used to the new car, although some of the gee whizz do dads still have me puzzled. Have to go to the dealer and get a refresher on some of the stuff. Love the fuel ecomomy though. It's getting twice as good of mileage as our old Envoy. All good.

Got an order in from Woodland Senics the other day. I can buy the usual stuff here because the gammers store carry most of the senic stuff, some being the operative word. The more RR oriented stuff I have to order direct which is an expensive proposition. I usually wait till I have a large order to save some on the shipping. The order that came in the other day ended up costing me $325 with shipping and duty + taxes for not all that much stuff. What are you gonna do though, ya need it so ya buy it.

I got our property tax bill in the mail today. Haven't looked but it will be up about 5% I think. We pay it monthly on an automatic withdrawal system so we don't get wacked with a 2K + bill all at once. Works better for budgeting that way.

Lets see, what else???? Nice day today, 25C calm and high cloud. Think I'll go take by Firebird for a run and maybe take some pictures now that the leaves are comming out finally.

Best regards to all

Dennis

Hi Guys,

Cool out today but are calling for a really nice weekend as temps will get into the high 20's ( celsius that is ). I kind of had the urge to work on the railroad in the last couple days but havent done anything aside from running a few trains, usually at this time of year I dont really work on the model railroad. I do have a few plans on some projects but I think I will put them off until Fall. My workshop gets a little warm in the summer even though I have central air and it is in the basement there is no air flow.

I usually just stick to playing strat o matic baseball in the summer as I can set up table under the air vent and get the cool air while playing and watching the ball game and then work on the railroad during the cold months which around here is October-April. Plus I like to get out on my bike in the mornings before it gets too hot.

Nothing much going on here today. The Home Health nurse didn't call until 2pm so that was a lot of the day wasted waiting on that call. I didn't want to start in on something only to have to stop a little while later. That really has me irritated.

Got another commemorative coin today, the first in quite a while. It's an 1849 Liberty Head Double Eagle replica layered in 24k gold. All it cost me was less than $8 shipping. It looks nice next to my 1854 Liberty Head Double Eagle 24k gold layered proof.

 Good Evening Dinners and Ulrich

 Flo, Beer pleases

What a day, here I thought I would be busy, boy was I wrong!Bang Head I had one whole customer in 10 hours! Luckly they bought and I made a extra $50.00, better than a stick in the eye!

Poor Sleep Front, mine that is. For the last 4 years I ahve been sleeping on the couch in the family room. Reason, I Zzz Zzz a lot. First few years, I slept OK. Last 2 years, gosh it has been awful! Sue as turned the extra bedroom into her personal junk room and it is filled to the brem! Bught some cheap mattress pads for the couch and they helped for maybe 2 months, then they where junk! I all so do not have room to sit up a twin bed with out throwing away a couch! Whistling

Today while I was bored silly, I had a idea! What about a Split Queen Memory Foam Mattress! Big Smile A split queen mattress is used when a couple want a queen sizes Power Base (Lift Feet and Head) but each side moves seprately. Half of a split queen is 2.5 feet wide and 80 inches long, that should fit on the couch! Boy, it would be great to have a good night sleep again!

Ulrich, have you ran the layout yet? Just wondering how the engines track. How long did it take to make the peir and what did it cost you? Reason I ask, on E Bay I bet you could get $150.00 to $300.00 for something of that quality.

Boy I am bushed, see you all later.

Morning Folks!

My sleep issue really eats me up! I always wake up after 3 to 4 hours and can´t get back to sleep, making me feel drowsy all day long!

Chloe, strong coffee and a cinnamon roll, please.

cudaken
Ulrich, have you ran the layout yet? Just wondering how the engines track. How long did it take to make the peir and what did it cost you?

Ken - the layout isn´t wired yet, so I still have to find out how the 4-4-0 tracks. The Forney is a nice performer - I have tested it on a test track. The Forney was a gift from Petra´s uncle, who lives in Oregon and the 4-4-0 was on sale at one of the few places where you can buy US prototype model railroading equipment. It was about $ 140 below MSRP, but I could not have afforded it without the translation money I earned. I hope there will be another translation job coming up soon - I need a few cars. There is a source in UK selling On30 car kits at about half the price of Bachmann RTR cars.

No plans for the day - I might try my hand at the stairs for the dock and some detail parts...

Blessings to all!

Good Morning all.  Had visits to oncologist and surgeon. Vitals all good, even gained back some weight. Waiting for blood test results. Found out about a few problems since the op. Will just have to live with them and adjust my actions.  When I told the surgeon about  my activities, he couldn't believe it. He did the same op on a much younger man, an athlerte, and he is not doing half as well.

Look at the WPF thread and see Curts latest changes. Sure do admire what you artistic modelers can and do .

Had an invite to 60th high school reunion. Not going. No desire to spend a weekend in Miami ,[Cuba north] with a bunch of OLD folks.

Prayers and Blessings to all..

Good morning. It's 67° with 99% humidity and patchy fog. The high will be 88° and cloudy.

A Home Health nurse will be making a special trip out here this morning. The wound vac dressing that was done yesterday wasn't done well and was leaking inside of six hours. By 11pm it was falling apart like a $2 suitcase even after being reinforced with more adhesive film and when I ran out of that I used masking tape. I finally got the leaks sealed but it's not going to hold and must be replaced. So I already know part of my day is going to wasted waiting on the nurses phone call.

No plans today. Maybe I can get something done after the wound vac dressing has been dealt with. Boy that gets me mad. If they're going to send a nurse to do something like that they should make sure she knows how to do it properly.

Morning all.  Had a visitor at the club last night, from Suffolk England! Pretty cool to think our club is kind of known internationally.  We also did some repair work on the layout yesterday-tons of dirty track, sparking wheels(locomotive needs cleaned), and such-then again, hasn't been run since the first weekend of January 2014.  I've got a project decided on-a wheeling and lake Erie SD40-2 that  I am going to detail, decal(undecorated model), and install a Decoder in it at some point.

(My Model Railroad, My Rules)

These are the opinions of an under 35 , from the east end of, and modeling, the same section of the Wheeling and Lake Erie railway.  As well as a freelanced road (Austinville and Dynamite City railroad).

went to Harabor Freight for some things, and left behind some of the flyers/coupons I wnated to use! I have to go back!!

One thing I got was an electric pressure washer. MOH wants it for the trailer, and I think for the new car! I'd rather, I think, have a gas one, but they are so much more expensive!

I cna go back after NOOn and use another freebie coupon or the 20% off one on a saw....then again, the saw is on sale so maybe NOT. They DO have good deals, but they make some of them hard to use.

The saw is a regular electic 71/4" circular saw WITH laser guide...for $39.99. Not to bad. I have given up on the battery operated ones as 1} they never last and bying new battery packs is impossible as they change the model styles 2} I can NEVER find the blades to replace with...seems as popular as they are, you'd think you could find the blades...3} cords are a pain, but I'd rather have one that won't "quit in the middle of  acut on a project! 4} The two battery sets I have had I have spent a small fortune on in the set, and extra batteries and have to throw away "good stuff" when the batteries breathe their last!

Looks rain.

Maybe later I struggle to mow the lawn. it is HIGH. MOH won't be home till 2pm, and tierd at that,so maybe I struggele with it.

oh well, I think time for a nap...

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have pot of dark roast coffee and a couple sour cream doghnuts....  The dunkers, not the glazed this morning.

Yesterday I was afraid I was going into a flare of Gout...  Turns out, I was right.  The right big toe and joint are sore as all get out at the moment and kept me awake most of the night.  Of course tomorrow I have to lead tours of the museum all day....  That will be fun!  If somebody else actually shows up to help, I plan to spend more time just sitting.  We are running track cars, so attendence should be lighter than normal (I hope).

This afternoon I will at my sister's house in Canandaigua to get some hostas for planting along the fence I put in last year.  After that we shall visit the garden center run by one of her former students on our way out to dinner.  Not sure what I will have as most all protein is bad for the Gout.  Memorial Day will be spent at my son's house with his family.  Need to make one of my famous Potato Salads for that get together.

Last night I did get down stairs to the layout for a while.  Managed to cut the 4 I beams I need to the RR overpass I am building.  If I have all the raw materials in stock this should go together pretty quickly.  Then over the summer I hope to have the rest of the reverse loop finished so I can actually start running operations on the SLOW.

Sun is shining here in the Finger Lakes every now and then today.  Currently 57°F on it's way up to 72°F later this afternoon.  Yesterday was a bummer for the electric here...  Only produced 7.35 kWh.  That would be an average day back in early January....  Hopefully today will be back up into the 20+ kWh range.

I have to head over to the store for a couple things I forgot yesterday and get some Advil as well....

Catch you all later!

Afternoon Gang!

After a slow start in the morning, I finally pulled myself together and got going. I build and installed the stairs on the passenger dock and also build some bollards to moor the ferry boat, which will eventually come at a later stage (and built on a separate board to be attached to the layout).

Here is how things look as of today:

I am slowly running out of material for further construction, just enough is left for a few smaller things. Next will be the backdrop, as I am tired of staring at the blank and not so nice anymore looking wall.

Ray - ouch! Take care!

Over 4 hours of no show?

I´ll be calling it a day in a few moments - the sleepless nights are taking their toll on me!
